The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Tarin actually rolled his eyes when she joked that he'd thought she was that bad of company that weekend. Though, Lee was sure she certainly would have been considered bad company by normal standards. Such as packing a bag of stuff for him from his closet while he sat on the floor.
"I was too good of company?" Lee asked as she grinned across the table at Tarin. "I don't think anyone has said that about me before."
Though that might not be completely true, but given the kind of situation, Lee didn't think that she would have ever been described as anything other than stubborn and relentless.
"A canned spaghetti sandwich?" Lee questioned, her nose wrinkled at the thought. "I can happily say that I haven't had one of those before. And while the grill should still be buried…somewhere in the kitchen, I'm not going to dig it out if that's what you're going to make."

Lee laughed softly when Tarin pointed out that he couldn't have her making sense and being logical with her reasons for wanting to stick around him those first days.
"That's what the problem was?" Lee asked jokingly, shaking her head. "And here I had been thinking I was just that bad of company that you couldn't wait to be rid of me."
As Tarin listed off the things he had actually learned how to make, apparently by messing up while cooking many times, Lee nodded. Those all seemed like things that might not be bad to try making, especially if Tarin already knew how.
That had to make the whole process easier, and less nerve wracking, right?
But that would be for after they'd gotten Kevin to the mansion. If they were going to try one more actual home cooked meal, they were going to do it how they had planned the previous night.
"When Kevin was about 8, all he wanted to eat was grilled cheese for about 6 months straight. That's about the only thing I've actually managed to get right, and I had to buy one of those grill things with a timer."

Tarin thought that that decision to move into her her spare room was the second best decision he had made in his life. Lee could only guess that coming to this side of the rift when he had was the best. Which, to be fair, was a damn good decision as well.
Tarin thought that her deciding to go along with the moving in thing was a good idea too. Lee shrugged. "It was definitely a lot easier than the previous fighting to get you to let me stick around," Lee told him lightly. "Plus, if things had not gone well, I figured that I could always kick you out."
Not that Lee had really expected that things would go badly. If she had expected a bad outcome from Tarin staying in the extra room, Lee wouldn't have suggested it in the first place, long term or short.
And Tarin thought that since he only knew how to cook a few things, that was why he had gotten good at making them. "Well, at least one of us has some actual skill at cooking," Lee said before going back to her eggs.

"Well, good," Lee murmured as she turned toward her food. Though it was true, wasn't it? When had Tarin really offered to do anything that he actually minding doing? Sure, there had been times when he'd been wildly uncomfortable while doing things, such as holding Michael while she'd been babysitting.
Tarin was quiet for longer than Lee expected after her comment about breakfast. When he did finally answer, Lee grinned across the table at him. "One of, if not the best decision you've ever made in my opinion," Lee told him with certainty, still holding Tarin completely responsible for the decision that he was moving in.
Lee took another bite of the eggs, then pointed at them with her fork. "These are good," she said once she had finished the mouthful.

Lee smiled as Tarin responded to her thanks. And smiled wider when he gave her another kiss. There had not been enough of that this morning in Lee's opinion. But she didn't push it. They didn't need a repeat of the previous night.
Grabbing the cutlery she'd pulled out off the counter, Lee turned to follow Tarin out of the kitchen. To the table that was currently the home of their still unfinished puzzle.
"You know, I'll hold you to that," Lee said as she sat down.
After a couple of bites of eggs, Lee looked up at Tarin thoughtfully. "You know, it occurred to me that I've probably had an actual breakfast more since you've moved in than I did in the entire previous decade."
What Tarin was doing wouldn't be considered special or fascinating by most. Probably almost no one, in fact. But as he moved around the kitchen to cook the eggs - a lot more confidently than she could have managed - Lee found she couldn't pull her eyes away. Not that she wanted to.
Though the morning had started it as anything but normal, Lee's smile grew slightly as she stood there. Having coffee and breakfast with your boyfriend before you started your workday was what most people would do in the mornings, wasn't it? A very mundane, normal thing to do.
A thing that they could do every morning, or just periodically if they preferred, for the foreseeable future.
After a few moments, Tarin's voice pulled Lee from her thoughts. "Of course," Lee replied, finally stepping fully into the kitchen.
Just like cooking the eggs, grabbing played and cutlery did not take much time at all, and almost before she knew it, there were eggs and toast loaded onto each plate.
"Maybe not fancy, but perfect for breakfast," Lee said as she looked up at Tarin. "Thanks sweetie," she continued as she stretched up to give Tarin a soft kiss.

Lee was still more than a little uncomfortable cooking. But she was getting better. She had willingly offered to help Tarin cook the eggs.
Thankfully, Tarin said that he had the cooking taken care of. That she could 'spectate'.
Lee grinned as Tarin turned and started making his way to the kitchen. Oh, she had every intention of 'spectating' his cooking. Silently, the grin still on her face, Lee followed Tarin to the kitchen.
She didn't go into the kitchen, though. Lee stopped in the doorway, leaning her shoulder against the wall, as she watched Tarin moving around gathering what he needed to cook some eggs for the two of them.
It really was a nice change, in some ways. There were so many times that Lee caught Tarin just looking, staring at her: playing guitar, when she was sparring…and those were just the ones she'd caught.
Sometimes, it was nice to just be able to do the same. To do nothing except look at Tarin, him being her entire focus. Without things turning into how they had been the night before.
And while his looks initially had nothing to do with her attraction to him and what happened that first night after the bar…it was a benefit that Lee was definitely appreciating that morning as she stood looking at Tarin cooking with a smile on her face.

Lee just rolled her eyes at Tarin when he brought up having the hats ready for the game that night. Lee wasn't sure when the last time Tarin hadn't been wearing the hat she'd bought for him while watching the game, and she had even been wearing his old hat for most of the game recently.
"Breakfast sounds wonderful, actually," Lee said with a smile. That was another thing that had changed in the last few months for Lee: regularly eating breakfast again. Before Tarin, her 'breakfast' had consisted solely of coffee. She had always ensured that Kevin ate before school, but anything more than coffee for herself was asking too much.
It was amazing what actually having energy in the morning was able to do.
Standing up, Lee took her guitar back to its stand in the corner before turning to grab her own coffee off the table. "Do you think you'll need some help?" Lee asked, only a little hesitant and nervous. "Or do I get to just watch you cook?"

Tarin continued to grin at her, and when he did that, it seemed like it would be impossible for her to not at least smile, if not outright grin, back at him.
"I'm glad too," she told him. Though a lot of the things that they talked about like that were dark or troubling, Lee was glad that they were able to open up to each other like that.
And maybe one day, she would be able to name what it was about Tarin that made him so special in this way.
"Well, I'll admit it's real for as long as it appears to be," Lee replied. "And since there is a game tonight, it'll have a chance to prove it's true."
Or it was a reason to make Tarin disproportionately happy from the small effort of wearing his hat.

Tarin was convinced that he was simply very lucky, not that he was special. "Maybe there's some luck involved." Lee admitted. "But it's not just luck that has made me open up and share so much with you."
Then Tarin was trying to be all serious about the magic, and Lee nodded with him. "What was I supposed to think initially?" Lee asked, because the whole thing was a little ridiculous. But I've seen the error of my ways." [/font]
The thing was, there had to be something special about Tarin. The two of them being together very well had a lot to do with luck, but luck couldn't explain why she would do things or share things with Tarin she had never done so before.

When she asked for Tarin to explain what it was he liked her doing, at first he just shrugged. At least he did explain right after.
Which left Lee to simply shrug at first in return.
"I guess I do keep doing that, don't I?" Lee asked, a smile growing on her face as she spoke. As she continued speaking, Lee's voice grew more joking and playful. "You must be pretty darn special for me to keep doing that, aren't you?"
If Lee thought about it, it really was true that she had done a number of things with or for Tarin that she had never done for anyone else. Not even Kevin's father. Which seemed rather strange. Lee had had so many 'firsts' with Kevin's father, so many things experienced with him that Lee had never thought possible for her. They had been through hell and back multiple times over the years in many different ways.
And yet, there were things she had talked with Tarin about, things she had done with him or for him, that six months earlier she wouldn't have been able to even imagine doing for anyone.
"Must be that interdimensional magic you brought with you."

Though Lee liked the song, obviously since she was playing it at Tarin's request that she play her favourite son to play, she was a little nervous about what Tarin would think. It was so different from anything else that she had played. Different from the songs in all the playlists that she had sent him.
But Lee didn't look at him once while she was playing. And even when she had finished, Lee paused a couple moments before looking over at Tarin.
Only to see that he was grinning. A quite happy grin, it appeared.
"You think so?" Lee asked. Then tilted her head slightly. "When I do what? Because I thought we well established you like watching me play."

Lee couldn't help but laugh at how Tarin described the Mets on the other side of the now closed rift. "That would be something," Lee said. "Though, I guess that would be another point for the fact that the hat magic works, wouldn't it?"
Her favourite song to play? That was a tough one, as there were a lot of songs that she liked playing. There were songs that she defaulted to playing quite often, like what she tended to play when she got roped into doing an open mic. There were songs that she really liked singing along to, but some of those favourites were definitely not favourites to play on guitar. Some she didn't even know how to.
"To play on guitar?" Lee asked, clarifying Tarin's question. But of course that's what he meant. Looking down at the guitar in her hands, Lee just sat there for a few moments.
"The song I tend to play most often has changed over the years," Lee admitted. "But the one I've always loved, that I always go back to…I've never actually played for anyone before."
Namely because this was her guilty pleasure. Not at all what she would normally listen to, not what people would think she'd enjoy.
Glancing at Tarin out of the corner of her eye, Lee took a slow breath and started playing, the music far more upbeat than the previous songs.
"I've got a smile on my face and I've got four walls around me I've got the sun in the sky, all the water surround me, oh, you know Yeah, I win now and sometimes I lose I've been battered, but I never bruise It's not so bad"

Lee raised an eyebrow when Tarin said that he'd happily play in the snow if he were getting the bonuses that the baseball players would get for making the post season.
But that November games were just if they made it into the World Series. Which, Lee supposed made sense. Maybe? It at least made as much sense as the Stanley Cup being played in June, anyway.
As Tarin continued speaking, Lee was honestly surprised. It had been that long since the Mets had even made it into the post season?
"Wow, I didn't realize that the Mets sucked that badly," Lee teased. "Maybe the hat magic is actually real."
Her teasing smile disappeared as Lee played the guitar, though a much more natural and happy one took its place as she finished the song and looked over at Tarin again. "I do too," Lee replied. "It's quite a bit older, but a really good song."

Tarin didn't say anything about baseball games going into November, nothing about how that would be ridiculous. Did that mean that they actually played into November? Lee had thought that she had been obviously exaggerating things.
Not only that, but Tarin said that he thought there had even been games played in snow. Lee shook her head. Now that was a bit ridiculous. "Well, hopefully they'll be playing people who like the cold as much as you do?" Lee asked teasingly.
As Tarin went on to explain why he thought he might like the slower, more ballad-like songs, part of Lee's mind was thinking about what would work for that play list. That Tarin would listen to while not running.
"That could definitely help," Lee said as she glanced down at her guitar. After a moment, she started playing again.
"Old man, look at my life I'm a lot like you were Old man, look at my life I'm a lot like you were Old man, look at my life Twenty four and there's so much more Live alone in a paradise That makes me think of two"
