The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Cesca smiled devilishly. "Moreso I've found my voice again," she said almost softly. "I've grown roots here now, found a home so...my art can flourish again." At the mention of a mansion with naked walls, the devilish grin grew even wider. "Ballsy...I like it. Count me in~"
She sat against the wall and pondered, as she took the soda bottles and set them in front of her, laying out her other supplies. "Well...my ability is kind of limited, but let's see if we can make it work." She chewed her lip. "Okay, so...maybe if I had a balloon...blow it up, put a small pinhole in it to leak the gas out, then had something I could throw the balloon in, that would release the balloon upon impact? Like some janky tear gas cannister?" she leaned back, one hand idly toying with her hair as she thought. "I never really thought about my powers in this way, honestly. Usually I just get close enough to blow it in their face...." Part of her had to smile; he may have been a tad...energetic, and she normally dealt with him drunk, but Zek really brought out a childish side to her. And to be honest, she kind of liked it.

Her cheek stung, though Cesca could honestly say she really didn't expect any less, if their first(and last) meeting had been anything to go by. They "painted the town red," but...it was quite literal, and it was with paint, not even any blood. Ah well; that's just how things go sometimes, she figured.
"Yeah, you could say I'm doing alright," she replied, adding a little signature to her art: a stylized 'M' for Miasma. Before she could converse anymore, Zek did...something that she didn't see because she was busy touching up her snake. But the next thing she knew, ice shards were raining down, forcing her to perform a (rather impressive) forward roll behind the same dumpster.
She sighed, leaning against the dumpster, closing her eyes. "Gotta admit, bud. This is not how I planned spending tonight, but..." Opening her eyes, she suddenly found herself wearing a rather sinister grin, and a gleam flickered in her yellow eyes. First, she pulled a few pieces of gum out of her purse, then peeked into the dumpster, grabbing an old beer bottle as she chewed, looking very much like a punk chipmunk. Holding the bottle in one hand, and the monstrous wad of now chewed gum in the other, she put the bottle to her nose(no way she was putting this thing in her mouth), and pinched the other nostril closed with her thumb. Then, she expelled a cloud of yellow-green gas from her nose into the bottle, and quickly sealed it with the wad of gum.
"I've never done this before but...let's see how it works," she mused, tossing the bottle across the alley to where she hoped their icy nemesis was taking cover. The bottle shattered against the wall, freeing the puff of gas, which....immediately dissipated upon release.
Cesca stepped out of the market, a bag in her left hand as she took a breath of the crisp air. It was nice to finally stop and breathe for a moment. Life had gotten busy, but in a good way. She’d worked her way up to head chef at a high end restaurant, gotten her own apartment, complete with two pets, and life was good.
But it was easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of things. She’d forgotten to just enjoy life, and take things in. Such was why she opted to walk to and from the store, dressed in her black leather jacket, a nice silk shirt, slacks, and black tennis shoes. Turning into an alley, she saw a perfectly blank wall. It’d been awhile, but she did conveniently keep a can of spray paint in her purse. Maybe it was still good. Smirking, she shifted her plastic bag of fruit onto her shoulder and shook the paint can.
Then, it was just her and the wall, pierced ears picking up nothing but the hiss of the can, yellow eyes focused on green paint as it jetted onto the wall, slowly forming a snake. And then, right as she added the finishing touches….a stray pellet of ice caught her right in the cheek.
“Ah! What the f–” It was at that moment a familiar figure shouted something, then ducked and rolled behind a dumpster. “Zek?” She said with a raised eyebrow in his direction, the sting in her cheek still slightly lingering. “Long time no see, eh?” I am not drunk enough for this shit…

"I love a good bumpy ride, on occasion," she said with a slight smirk as she put on the helmet and sat behind her newfound friend and wrapped her arms around him, hanging on. It'd been awhile since she'd ridden a motorcycle. Maybe when her money issues sorted out she should get one.
It really was a nice ride, her heart racing with excitement for probably the first time since she'd made it to New York. Buildings zipped by, lights blurred, the wind ruffled her leather jacket, and under the helmet, she was grinning, anticipating the evening to come.
Once they got to their destination, she climbed off and removed the helmet, shaking her hair free from its prison and cracking her neck. "Lead the way, Mr. Perky," she said with a smirk. "I warn you, I'm an artist but spray paint is not my usual medium," she said quietly
Cesca smiled genuinely, much softer than usual. Inside, however, her heart was aching and fluttering and there was an overwhelming torrent of feelings that she had been trying to avoid rushing at her all at once. Maybe it was the whiskey, maybe it was the fact that she needed to talk to someone, or maybe she was just stupid and emotional and unable to fully be the sturdy unphasable rock that she needed to be.
"Basically, I'm from a crime family in Chicago; the Galloways aren't quite as well known as some of the others, but they've been in the news more here lately. I learned everything I know about life and the business from my father, even using my mutation to aid when need be. Well, I'd had a girlfriend that I brought around, but come to find out she was just using me to get to my family. Everyone except me was arrested, as far as I know. I ended up getting away but...I blamed myself, and I haven't seen or heard from anyone since. So I guess I'm just trying to strike out on my own."
She paused, wiping her eye before raising her glass. "To new beginnings." Then, she downed the rest of it.
Her smile faded; in fact if it wasn't for the alcohol, she might have snapped. But something about it just...dulled the situation. Even if it was her fault for not knowing how to properly mutter under her breath while drunk. Inebriated as she was, however, she still wasn't going to divulge too much to quickly. Or at all, really. While she wished they could have just kept talking about wings(and some chicken wings sounded damn good right now), this was the hand she'd dealt herself.
Taking a moment of silence, she shook her head. "That won't be necessary, nor possible, sadly," she said slowly, thoughtfully. "Let's just say, some things went sour back home. Restaurant went out of business, family separated, that sort of thing. I moved here to start over. Make my own way, my own name." She sighed, drawing her legs into herself a little. She was almost...vulnerable. "It's...fairly recent. It just kinda...well, I guess you could say it just sucks. I'm here just starting over, and maybe...well, maybe I'm not as in control as I try to be," she shook the thoughts out of her head before stretching and standing to her feet. She straightened her hair, fixed her tie, and then plopped right back onto the couch.
Taking a breath, she regained her confidence. "Sorry about that. Just one of those things I guess."
"It's good to unwind and just relax, have fun every now and then," Cesca agreed as she nodded at Carrick. Tonight was supposed to be more business, but she definitely was not complaining about it having become more for pleasure. She could always stake out the place another night; right now, it really was nice to just relax with a couple of new friends and she was honestly having fun.
She loosened her tie as they walked, just enough for it to hang off her neck a little; it wasn't that she couldn't breathe, it was honestly just starting to bug her. She sat towards the middle of the couch, with enough room for someone to sit on either side of her, crossing one leg over the other, and turning herself at an angle towards Jonas once he sat down, and she leaned back, hands resting on her thighs.
"They really do make for a good show; I quite enjoyed how you incorporate your entire self into your performance," she said earnestly. "Makes me wish we had entertainment like that at the restaurant back home," she murmured, almost sadly before shaking those feelings to the side and focusing back on her new friends.
Cesca listened intently, mentally taking notes as she prepared for the upcoming mission. "I don't know what kind of effect my power will have on them, but when push comes to shove I guess we'll find out." Her left hand idly toyed with the switchblade as she thought about her next words, and decided that for the sake of the job, it was best she left all her cards on the table for her two teammates to see.
"I have a background in things like this; I'm from a now defunct crime family in Chicago. My specialty is interrogation, due to my mutation, but I've also been known to pull off a successful infiltration, and when need be I can handle myself in a fight. As for my power, I can produce a toxic gas that can have a number of nasty effects on a person," she explained. She had to admit, saving children was far more noble than the type of job she was used to, but she was definitely in it for the long haul. Besides, there were some lines even Cesca Galloway wouldn't cross, and harming children was one of them.
"Sounds like a plan then." she said with a smile, her yellow eyes glancing from Aura to Pause as she walked, slightly behind Aura, and just a little to the right.

Cesca chuckled, slightly shaking her head. She was amused, but maybe it was the alcohol; usually, when one was about to go do something illegal like vandalize property, they didn't go announcing it for the entire bar to hear. But hell, who was she to judge? After all, if something went down, all they had on her was the name Maria, right? Yeah, sure. Then again, she didn't have anything on either of them, either, though Mister Perky sure did seem to be charming, having someone else take care of her tab? That was...admirable, even moreso than taking care of it yourself, especially since Bruiser could have probably broken the kid in half without breaking a sweat.
On her way out she gave an apologetic wave to the bartender, and a clear "I'm sorry" read in her yellow eyes.
Okay, this gift...likely mutation of her new...acquaintance's was neat, she had to admit. To herself.
"Honestly, Mr. Perky? You got me into this mess, so I think it's only fair that you be my knight in shining armor and let me share your steed," she said coyly, brushing a bit of hair out of her face and winking just a little.

Cesca gave a hearty laugh. "What can I say?" she said with a wink. "I know my role and I play it well~" She was all smiles by now, relaxed considerably, and a lot more…bubbly than she had been when she first entered.
Cesca also found herself singing along, actually harmonizing quite well between Jonas and Carrick, and when it was over, she too gave a generous applause.
"Certainly is. Anytime, though I admit I didn't do much except provide backup." She leaned back a bit, brushing her hair aside in thought. "You know, a seat by the fire pit sounds nice. I'm in.[/color]" She nodded after a moment, silently reminding herself that she should probably be done drinking for the night.

“Beautiful?” Cesca repeated with a smile as she leaned against the wall. “Oh, you sweetheart,” she practically purred; she would have continued flirting, but it seemed their third crew member had showed up right behind her, and it was time to get down to business. “You can call me Miasma,” she said, toying with the appropriate codename. She normally didn’t use one, but all things considered, maybe it was time to change things up a bit.
She listened, then shook her head honestly. “Haven’t dealt with any personally; new in town. But I’ve heard and done my research. I’m skilled enough in this type of job, the addition of magic just gives a new flavor to it, is all,” Cesca commented thoughtfully as she pulled a crimson handled switchblade out of her pocket and sort of idly toyed with it.
“Okay, sounds straightforward enough so far,” she replied. “So what’s our best bet in? Go in at the same time, guns blazing, or each go in from a different angle and meet in the middle?” The young woman thought for a moment. “From what I’ve gathered on mystics, splitting up may be a bad idea.” She flicked open the blade, twirling it between her fingers as she thought.
Cesca picked up her drink and took a gulp before standing to her feet and walking with Warlock. She briefly had a decision to make; appearance was everything, so how should she position herself? To the side but slightly in front, like a bodyguard? Slightly behind, like a subordinate? No, no. She walked right beside him, matching him stride for stride, like a partner. An equal.
When the conversation started, she stood back, off to the side, listening, yet ready to chime in when and where needed. She nodded when acknowledged. “Cesca,” she introduced herself, with very little emotion or inflection to her voice; she may as well have told the man it was raining outside.
The conversation was…interesting. Was Jonas that infectious? He could be, of course, but something in the young woman’s mind wondered if there was something more to him. Whatever the case, she had to admit she was impressed. She noticed she was tense, after the interaction. She too, felt the strong urge to punch the guy in the throat, or at least give him a whiff of her gift, but she managed to restrain herself. Pivoting on her heel, she turned and walked back to the bar.
Once she was out of earshot of the manager. “Good Gods that guy is a prick…” she muttered, downing the rest of her drink.

Cesca chuckled playfully, smirking a little. “In his defense, I kinda started it,” she said with a small shrug. “Even if that’s not what I meant for this point and time, I said what I said.” She leaned back in her chair, actually liking how the name “Maria” was starting to fit her. In fact, it crossed her mind to note Maria as an alias if need be in the future.
She quirked a brow at Zek saying he had an idea, but was silenced as she saw his mutation at work. Okay, that was interesting. And while the odds were that she was never the only mutant in the room, especially in a hotspot for them like New York, it was nice to know for sure who the other mutant(s) in the room were, just in case.
“You know…I’m normally a pen and paper kinda gal, personally, but you know what? I’ll take you up on that. Could be fun, after all.” She smiled. “Just say the word so I can pay my tab and wrap things up~” Oh, this was shaping up to be an interesting night indeed. Maybe, just maybe, things would pick up and they'd find themselves some real action before the night was older. Would also give her a chance to stake out this so-called gang and their turf.
“I mean, if you can swing it, custom made is the way to go, wing size or not,” she commented smoothly, sort of motioning to her boots and the jacket that was slung over her shoulder. Speaking of, she made a note to find a good source of custom clothes and boots in the city. She didn’t intend on ruining the shoes or jacket she had, but it was always nice to have someone on hand in case of emergency–sometimes, the emergency being Cesca’s whimsy.
>>>>”She looks old enough ta be here.”
Unfortunately, Cesca had taken a very healthy swig of her drink as Carrick said this, and the resulting snort laugh caused her to sputter and spew it all over the counter in front of her. Her face was almost as red as her blouse, and as she choked and laughed, it almost did away with the powerful, confident air she had put on very well up until now. Almost. As she regained her composure, she fixed her hair, straightened her tie, and then promptly leaned forward, grabbing the bartender’s rag from behind the bar and wiped the mess up herself. “Sorry about that, hun,” she told the bartender. “I got it.”
She nodded, smiling at Carrick when he stood to go back to performing. “Sure thing,” Cesca replied with a smile, eyes flashing slightly. “If we’re gone when you get done, take care, and your two drinks will be paid for already~” the young woman flashed a wink at Jonas. When Carrick referred to them as a couple, Cesca seemed largely unphased. Honestly, in this moment she felt much more like a girl in a high school cafeteria than a former mobster in a probably-mob-run establishment. Heh…she’d actually forgotten the reason she’d come out tonight, anyway, and that was to case the joint. Oh well, there were much more important things to…case…this evening.
“If he’s not, he’s a damn good actor and for that alone he deserves to be able to drink. And I’ve seen my fair share of actors, she stated. “Well, I normally cut off after three, but I seem to have spewed most of my second onto the counter so…yeah I’ll take you up on that drink, for sure,” she murmured with a seemingly shy smile. Cesca was clever; she knew when to let someone else take the lead. As she sipped at her drink, she weighed Jonas’s next question. “You know, I think we should. I’ll let you do all the talking, Prettyboy. I’ll be there in case things turn sour or you need a little…feminine touch,” the woman reassured with a smirk as she took a gulp of her new drink. Setting the glass down, she put her jacket back on, then slowly and methodically sipped on the rest of it. When the time was right, she’d slide off of her stool, following Jonas to the manager.
This was the kind of thing she enjoyed. It reminded her of her days back in Chicago with the family. Though she could never return home, maybe she could have a better life here. One with just as much action and adventure without the messiness of getting tangled up in family shit. Only this time, she wouldn’t let her guard down, no matter how pretty or handsome they were.

I really need to get a motorcycle…
Sure, Ryde was cheap but to call it convenient…well, the music sucked, the driver had road rage, and Cesca didn't want to know what that smell was. Though she was sure it had something to do with the old fast food bags scattered around the floorboard. "Just drop me off here is fine."
"But it's still three blocks–"
"It's fine, I'll still pay full price. Need to stretch my legs anyway." With that, she abruptly exited the vehicle and began walking. She was dressed a little more comfortably for the occasion: Hair tied back in a ponytail, Black flannel left unbuttoned to show off a black tank top, over a pair of black jeans and capped off by her black combat boots. She was still sporting a black eye after an event a few nights ago in a bar.
Some jerk had tried hitting on her, and when he wouldn't stop, she used her toxic power to dispatch him, only to realize that he had friends. However, someone had proven herself a valuable ally and they came out of the brawl on top together, and it was this very person who had called Cesca here.
Aura had done Cesca a solid, and she was one to repay her debts. As she turned the corner into the alley behind the dojo, she accidentally kicked a beer bottle that smacked against the wall. Hands stuffed in her jeans pockets, her yellow eyes scanned the alley. She gave a friendly wave in greeting. "Just me," she announced, deciding to just pretend the awkward "Ryde" over never happened.
