The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It felt like an eternity, but eventually Mr. Johnson arrived. Something about him seemed...familiar? In the way someone who's obviously very important or powerful feels familiar. Huh, maybe he had seen him walking around the halls. Rowan remained completely silent as Mr. Johnson introduced himself. Rowan assumed the adult already knew who he was, so saying his name seemed pointless.
But Rowan could feel is annoyance growing. He already was unhappy to be doing this, and yet the adult who's supposed to be evaluating him arrived late? With coffee? The guy clearly didn't want to be here, which was fine because Rowan didn't want to either. Of course none of these were fair judgements to make. Mr. Johnson wasn't late, Rowan had arrived slightly early. And arriving with a coffee wasn't a bad trait, nor was making little comments to break the ice. Rowan, however, didn't care about any of these rationalizations, as he was a grumpy teenager in an uncomfortable situation.
With a huff and a grumble Rowan followed Mr. Johnson inside, arms crossed over his chest. He deflated a little, just barely, as he walked into the room. Something about it made Rowan feel...uncomfortable? Trapped? Like there was probably a hidden machine gun in the walls to dispose of bad students? He couldn't quite place it, but it made him feel like he was in a doctors office.
Rowan didn't answer Mr. Johnson's question, instead asking his own. Speaking up for the first time since the two met.
"This isn't gonna...hurt is it?"
And while Rowan's tone of voice indicated that he was angry, there was a clear waver of anxiety in his voice.

Now that things had finally calmed down Rowan felt like he could relax, just a bit. He sat down on the floor, sighing as he did so. He felt...tired. The tired really didn't come from carrying Aoi, more so from the stress of them almost getting caught. Rowan dipped out of the conversation for a moment, but was again hooked at the introduction of snacks. His stomach rumbled, but not wanting to look desperate for a handout Rowan let the other two pick their snacks first.
Rowan had been hoping the mutation conversation wouldn't come up.
Kalos answered first, and her answer was...honestly really neat. Rowan for the first time in his life was getting to meet fellow mutants, he hadn't expected them all to be so...unique. But unfortunately Rowan had to answer next. He huffed slightly, trying to look annoyed.
"I uh...shift into a...wolf."
A half truth, but saying he shifted into a wolf-like monstrosity didn't seem like the best answer. He quickly added to avoid further questions.
"I get really tried, and uh...hungry when I shift, so I only do it when I have to.
And Rowan realized that the burden of picking a new conversation topic fell on him. He wasn't much for idle chit chat, especially with people he barely knew. If anything all he wanted to do now was go back to his room and finish his homework. Rowan mentally face-palmed. His homework. He had gone to the library to get a math book, his initial mission forgotten during their escape. Well he couldn't go back today, the guilty always return to the scene of the crime and whatnot, so homework would have to wait.
"Uh...you two...have you too been here long?"
Rowan realized this wasn't much of a conversation, so he quickly added;

Rowan hoisted Aoi onto his back with a slight huff. He might be of an above average strength but he was still a fourteen year old. Luckily Aoi was a little smaller than him, and wasn't putting up a fuss. Rowan quickly, well as quickly as he could with a girl on his back, followed after Kalos. He trusted her directions, and was actually a little excited to learn some ways to navigate the mansion.
Things were going just fine, Rowan had a pretty good sense of balance, but the camera was going to pose a problem. Rowan first watched Kalos sneak by, and then turned his head to whisper back to Aoi.
"Keep close to me, like a backpack, it's gonna be close."
With that Rowan pressed himself as close to the wall as possible, scootching himself along the wall until he was well away from the camera's field of view. It was about this time, despite his previous anxiety, when Rowan realized he was having...fun? Their little heist and daring get away...it was like being in a movie.
Rowan quickly pushed these thoughts aside, they weren't in the clear yet.
Soon the trio was in the kitchen. Rowan watched with great interest as Kalos retrieved the first aid kit. Following her was a good idea, she seemed to know the mansion pretty well. Rowan gently lowered Aoi into the chair. So it was his job to patch her up? Seemed fair. He had bandaged up plenty of minor wounds, he wasn't too concerned.
Rowan carefully removed the tissues from Aoi's foot. The cut was small, and seemed clean. Maybe Aoi's panic and rapid transformation made her bleed faster. Rowan rooted through the first aid kit, eventually settling on a small spool of gauze and a tube of antibacterial gel. Soon Aoi's foot was wrapped. It wasn't pretty by any means, but it wasn't half bad for a teenager with no professional training.

Rowan wasn't exactly thrilled to hear the way Aoi spoke about her Mutation. Ripping people's heads off? These were teachers they were talking about, not burglars. But Rowan didn't have time to comment, or even shoot Aoi a dirty look. The heavy stomping of boots on the library floor reminded Rowan that the three of them weren't squished under a desk for fun. Rowan held his breath, closing his eyes. The young mutant almost looked serene, but was panicking on the inside.
He focused on listening to the voices, and the footsteps, trying to get a feel for how many people came in and where they were standing.
Luckily, the three young mutants weren't discovered, and the adults seemed to be leaving. Rowan listened to the footsteps getting more and more distant, and the sound of the library doors opening and closing. He gave it a few seconds longer, and then slowly poked his head out from their hiding place.
The coast seemed clear.
Rowan watched Kalos' hand motions with...confusion, head tilting like a curious dog. She clearly had some sort of a plan, and she probably knew the layout of the library and school better than he did. Regardless they had to get moving, being stuck under a desk while someone slowly repaired a window would be painful. Rowan crawled out first, and then offered a hand to Kalos and Aoi. Once the three were out he spoke, in a whisper.
"Okay...let's hurry.
He turned to Aoi.
"Let me carry you. If you foot is still bleeding you'll leave a trail, and we gotta be sneaky."
He crouched down slightly, getting in a piggy-back riding position. He looked over at Kalos.

Rowan really didn't want to be here.
Not 'here' as in the school. Rowan had found his first few days at the school to be...fine. Maybe even pleasant. No one had bothered him, some people even smiled at him. The food was good, and his bed was comfortable. This was also the longest he had been at a school without starting, or being sucked into, a fight. Which earned bonus points. He had even caught up on some schoolwork from his previous school, meaning he was all set to start classes when the semester began. He was finally feeling like he was catching up, and gaining some ground.
And then Ms. Sundance, the only adult at the school Rowan was starting to trust put up with, mentioned something about a mutation evaluation.
In a way, it made sense, Rowan was a new student. It was fair that the school wanted to see what he was capable of. Especially for the safety of the staff and other students. Without some sort of evaluation the teachers would have no idea what they were dealing with in case something bad happened. But the much louder part of Rowan's brain was furious. He didn't (unwillingly) come to this school to lean about his mutation. He hated his mutation, why should he have to show it off for some guy? What did Ms. Sundance say his name was? Sam? Same something-or-other. Rowan tried to resist, but was told he really couldn't start classes until he got this finished. Ms. Sundance promised it would be painless, but Rowan was having his doubts already.
It didn't matter. Rowan was still angry. And he wouldn't admit it, but he was scared too. This could go horribly wrong in many ways.
It wasn't too difficult to find the Danger Room, which was simultaneously the coolest and scariest name for a classroom ever. When he arrived outside the room, after a brief pause to try and calm his nerves, he tugged on the door. Only to discover the door was locked. After several more, in increasing strength, tugs, a fellow student happened to walk by. She mentioned the room was restricted, and there was an age factor as well. Well...that sucked. And was embarrassing. Waiting in the hall for some teacher only added to Rowan's frustration.
And so now Rowan was leaning against the wall next to the door. Arms crossed across his chest, brow furrowed, scowling at the floor.

Rowan huffed and crossed his arms over his chest. A gesture he did to attempt to seem grumpy, but it was obvious he was still rather embarrassed.
"I know you're not naked, I'm just trying to be polite.
His sensitive ears barely made out the voice on the other end of the phone. A security office? Well it could be worse...oh she hung up.
An anxious chill crashed over him. They were going to be caught, and now they had to add 'prank calling a security office' to their list of crimes. Rowan tried to keep his terror contained, but he could feel his teeth sharpening again. His vision tunneling. He had to stay calm, he couldn't shift. Turning into a terrible monster, destroying a library, and mauling two girls seemed a far worse crime then breaking a window.
Suddenly Kalos was diving under the librarians desk. She must have heard something. For a moment Rowan is snapped out of his panic attack as his eyes dart around the room, looking for a hiding place. There weren't many great options, at least not nearby. He saw a closet on the far end of the room, but there was no telling if it was locked. Instead his eyes fell on the desk Kalos just went under, there was still some more room.
Rowan was about to hide when he remembered Aoi. This was technically her fault, he should leave her. But she was hurt, an injured foot wouldn't get her far, and he could sympathize. His mutation was hard to control too. And besides, it wasn't like he...cared. He just didn't want her to immediately get caught and spill the beans, or worse turn into a polar bear again. Rowan offered Aoi a hand.
"Come on, lean on me, we are hiding under the desk."
Moving as quickly as they could Rowan lead Aoi to the desk, helping her scoot under first before crawling in himself. It was...a bit of a squeeze with the three of them, but options were limited. The last thing Rowan did was grab the librarians chair, pulling it as close to them as possible, hopefully obscuring them.

>>> "The adults aren't like that here. Wherever you came from, this is probably different."
Rowan grumbled and rolled his eyes, picking up a few more pieces of glass. He seriously doubted that this was place was 'different'. Just because it had a nice library, and dorms, and was full of mutants, didn't mean it was any different from any other troubled youth academy he had been too.
He'd probably last a month here, like all the others, before being shipped off somewhere.
And as Kalos picked up the phone Rowan's gloomy thoughts got...gloomier. If an adult showed up, and was mad, he could always pretend not to know the two girls. Or just tell them that Aoi was the one who broke the window.
All thoughts of throwing Aoi under the bus were banished when Rowan looked over at her, and her slightly cut foot.
"O-oh...hey wait...you don't want to mess with your foot too much."
Satisfied with the amount of glass he cleaned up Rowan hurried over to Aoi, grabbing a nearby and oh-so-convenient box of tissues. He was still making a big show about not looking at her, but handed her the tissues.

Rowan grumbled again, still rubbing his head. He wasn't bleeding or anything, it would take a lot more than a bookshelf smack to take him out. He'd been in far worse fights.
"'M fine..."
He still had his eyes covered, for several moments after Aoi hurried away. He slowly peeked out from his fingers. She was...dressed...kinda. Rowan removed his hands from his eyes, but made it clear he wasn't looking at Aoi.
He slowly began picking up the larger pieces of glass, not wanting an unsuspecting student to step on them. He carefully walked over to the chair near the window, the one Kalos had been sitting in, and began piling the glass up there. Hopefully obvious to passers by.
"We probably shouldn't tell anyone."
Rowan said quickly, looking at Kalos. It took him a moment to look away, still baffled by her appearance. He huffed.
"We might get in trouble for the window. Like have-ta pay for or it or detention or something."

Rowan's sensitive ears twitched. Was that...breaking glass? And then cracking glass became the crash of a polar bear slamming through the window. Rowan hadn't realized America, no less a city, had native polar bears. But now all he could think of was oh god I'm going to be mauled to death. Rowan's anxiety spiked as he leapt backwards, away from the huge creature. He could feel his teeth growing, his nails sharpening.
And things only got worse as the pink girl nearly climbed onto him to escape the bear. If he transformed he would surely end up harming her too.
Luckily it did not come to that, as the polar bear suddenly turned into a....a...
And any thoughts of fear, of transforming, quickly became a burning embarrassment. As quickly as they began to turn his hands were again normal, his teeth blunt. YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO TURN AROUND FOOL!
The young mutant turned beet red, quickly clapping his hands over his eyes. And, to further prove he wasn't peeping, turned and took a big step away. In his confusion, and disorientation, Rowan only managed to ram himself face first into a bookshelf. Rowan grunted in pain. And with his eyes still shut his forehead. This...wasn't going exactly to plan.

It had been a few days since Rowan arrived at the Mansion. He was adjusting...okay. Mostly keeping to himself in his room, only being spotted getting food or traveling to and from the lavatory. But today he was trying, and struggling, to journey farther and farther from his room. And today he was exploring the library. In a way, he had to go to the library. He had some transfer work to finish before starting his semester at the Mansion.
Rowan was amazed by how large the library was. At his previous school the library was basically a closet with a pile of musty books. This place, however, looked like it leaped from a T.V. scene. And it didn't smell musty.
The young mutant had been searching the shelves for a math book he could borrow, and was struggling. The organization of libraries had always confused him, and he refused to ask the librarian for help. He'd rather struggle for hours than stoop so low as to ask a librarian for help.
He rounded a corner his eyes falling upon a bright pink figure as opposed to the shelves. Rowan's eyes widened. He, despite, being a mutant, was still very new to mutant society. He had never seen someone so...pink. Rowan didn't mean to stare, but found himself completely entranced.

Rowan followed behind Liz, silent. And while he wished he was doing a better job of hiding it, Rowan was quite interested in the unofficial tour he was given. His eyes followed where she pointed and he quietly nodded along to what she said. This place was far larger, or at least felt larger, than any of the other schools he had been to. And quiet too. Then again, it was the days following Christmas, some of the students might have gone home.
Eventually the top had stopped in front of the door to the room. His room.
He shifted his bag under his arm and reached a shaky hand out to take the key. As soon as the bit of metal was in his hand he squeezed his hand into a tight fist. His key/.
And it almost seemed too good to be true that he wasn't given a roommate, at least not right away. He had never had his own room before. Every academy he'd been sent to her shared a room with at least three or four other boys, who all had to constantly fight to establish dominance. Even before that, when he lived in a real house, he didn't have his own bedroom. He slept on the couch most nights.
Rowan walked around the room slowly and quietly, as if afraid he would break something. Or worse, that this was all a cruel prank and this was all to be taken away from him. The room was simple, but so incredibly cozy to the young mutant. And it had windows and everything. He gingerly set his bag on the bed. And while he didn't turn to look at Liz, he addressed her. He grumbled and stuttered a moment, but was eventually able to get out:

Biology and science, huh? That explains the raven. Almost...kinda.
All thoughts of school quickly vanished at the mention of hot chocolate. Rowan's eyes opened a little wider, and he could feel himself salivating. When was the last time he had hot chocolate? It had to have been years and years ago. And not just cocoa powder in hot water, actually hot chocolate?
The young mutant found that he was almost always hungry, a downside to his mutation. Not only that but he hadn't been permitted food on the plane or in the police car. So the idea of snacks, as well as hot chocolate, was extremely tempting. Tempting in a way that made Rowan nervous, that his guard might slip too far in pursuit of a meal.
Rowan tensed at the thought of leaving his bag unsecured. Yes, she could say that no one would touch it, but Rowan knew how these schools worked. The moment Ms. Sundance lured him away, with the promise of hot chocolate, someone would come and take his bag. Steal his belongings and use them as a bargaining chip for good behavior. Rowan could feel his pulse racing, the sound of his heartbeat in his ears. The gnawing at the back of his mind to run.
And realizing he had taken too long to response Rowan quickly muttered.
"I'd...rather...I dunno..."
Normally Rowan wouldn't struggle so hard to keep up his aggressive walls. But adults were harder to scare off than kids, and it had been a long day.

Rowan nodded, but remained silent, when Liz mentioned that the two should head inside. From Rowan's facial expression it was clear the young mutant was overwhelmed, his eyes were wide and flickering, but his brow was still furrowed in an attempt to come off as intimidating. Or at least somewhat aggressive. Regardless he followed, picking up his shuffling pace slightly.
His eyes again fell on the bird, and oh gosh she was introducing him to a bird. He cleared his throat.
"Uhm...good afternoon Muninn.".
Well that felt silly. But for all he knew the bird could be a mutant in disguise. Or some sort of magic bird, like a witches cat.
The two stepped inside the mansion. And for just a moment Rowan's shoulders relaxed. It was warm inside. And with the scattered holiday decorations it felt like stepping into a postcard. He could hear voices speaking in distant rooms, but the noise didn't bother him. And somewhere he could smell food.
Quickly Rowan tensed up again, eyes turned downwards as he wiped his shoes on the welcome mat. He speaks again, trying to cover up his momentary lapse in alertness.
"You...are a teacher? What subject d-do you teach?"

The young mutant continued down the path, eyes on the ground but occasionally glancing up to take in his surroundings. It was quiet outside, but it made sense given the holidays. In the distant Rowan spotted a black bird, maybe a crow. Not exactly the most...welcoming animal to spot. He tried to reason that it was the dead of winter, and seeing any other sort of bird would be strange, but that did little to soothe the anxious knot in his stomach.
His anxious thoughts were interrupted by someone calling out. Calling out to him.
Rowan looked stunned a moment. He hadn't expected someone to be waiting for him, although in retrospect that seemed silly. He had just assumed he would have to knock or, worse, search for some sort of intercom to request entry. He stole a glance at who called out to him. A lady. An older lady. And she had a bird on her shoulder. Rowan swallowed trying to keep the waver out of his voice as he spoke.
"Uh...Hello...Ms. Sundance. Y-yeah I'm Rowan..."
Rowan wiped at his nose, the cold air already getting to him, being careful to avoid the bruise under his eye.
"My trip was...okay...it was my first time in a plane...kinda c-cool..."
Well...aside from missing Christmas that was.
He looked away again, hugging his bag to his chest. He was clear that socializing was a weak point of his. And while it was obvious that Rowan was nervous it was a...strange kind of nervousness. One who spent a lot of time with animals might interpret it as the kind of anxiety a cornered dog exhibits before biting.

It was early in the afternoon when a police car rolled to a stop at the end of the Mansions driveway. There was hardly a pause between the car slowing down and one of the back doors opening. A young person stepped out, looking slightly scruffy in their baggy clothes and frayed winter coat. Luckily it wasn't too cold out. The mutant barely had time to close the door before the car sped off. He turned to watch the car, which eventually vanished around a bend. Rowan had been dropped off at many schools for troubled youths, but this was the first time he had been dropped off alone. Normally a social worker or counselor would walk him inside and do the difficult parts, the talking parts. The awkward introductions, finding out where he would be sleeping, things like that.
But this was the first mutant school he had been dropped off at. And apparently the cop didn't want to stick around longer then he had to.
Rowan sighed, his breath condensing into mist in the cold air. He lingered a moment longer, taking in the building at the end of the driveway. It didn't look...all that different from schools he had been at. Maybe a little bigger. Rowan took another deep breath, trying to calm his anxious pulse. Rowan had experience being the new kid at school. He couldn't let anyone see he was scared, that would immediately put a target on his back. And with this place being full of mutants...he didn't know what to expect. Rowan clutched his duffel bag to his chest, and began walking down the driveway towards the mansion.
In his mind he began reciting what he would say to the first staff member he spotted, or at least the first adult. But everything felt...wrong.
