The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Rowan had looked pretty nervous as he stepped into the office, luckily Ms. Sundance's sunny greetings calmed him down a bit. Not only that but he got to pet Zorro! Yes! He was also thankful when Ms. Sundance gave him a place to sit, although he would have rather been near the door for a fast get away.
He made his way over to Liz's chair quickly, not looking at the cops in the room. And yeah, sitting in the teachers big comfy chair was cool, but what was way cooler was getting to pet a dog. And Zorro was wagging his tail, much to Rowan's relief. For a moment he had been worried that maybe the dog could sense that Rowan was something...animalistic too. And maybe Liz's mutation was making Zorro friendly, but Rowan was gonna hope it was just that the dog saw him as a normal kid.
Rowan gave Zorro a loving scratch behind the ears, the slightest twitch of a smile on his face.
As Rowan sat down he eyed the standing man in the suit. An agent? Like a spy? Or someone who worked for the government? That was...odd. Rowan nervously picked at his hands.
"Uh...Jack...I sit next to him in English..."
Luckily Ms. Sundance explained that situation a lot better, and with less of a nervous edge, but the look she gave him afterwords deflated him a bit. Okay...maybe confessing to a crime in front of two cops was a bad idea, Rowan couldn't help being a nervous babbler.
Rowan was quickly growing suspicious. If this had actually been about him threatening a student why was an agent here? Why wasn't Ms. Taylor talking to him about his actions? Or one of the security guards from the school? Sending police officers for a minor threat seemed...extreme.
He was starting to get anxious again, as it became clear he was being questioned on more than just his threats. But instead of growing more timid Rowan began to puff up, he stopped hunching in on himself, sitting up straighter. His brow furrowed. He wasn't about to let some cops intimidate him! He crossed his arms over his chest.
Rowan looked at the younger cop, who hadn't yet stood up. He noted the cops smile. The young shifter then looked back at Kemp. Well clearly one of these guys was in charge. Rowan huffed, brushing some hair out of his eyes.
"Why am I really here?"
As Rowan spoke those observing him would notice something strange. Most of his teeth were sharp and shaped like dogs teeth. A clear sign of his mutation.
>> “These men are here for some routine questioning in regards to a recent series of events, some of which have occurred near the Mansion. This isn’t an interrogation,”
As Liz explained the situation Rowan relaxed a bit, but was still trying to act tough. Ms Sundance's use of 'we' helping to, at least momentarily, keep Rowan calm. The young shifter looked up at Kemp, only for a moment, still curious as to how these 'events' were related to him.

Class paused as the intercom clicked to life, requesting Rowan go to Ms. Sundances' office. He jumped slightly, head swiveled towards the speaker on the wall. All eyes in the room were suddenly on the young shifter sitting towards the back of the classroom. He was...being called to her office? He inhaled nervously, wondering what he had done. His teacher dismissed him, and the young shifter began to quickly gather his things. Rowan stood up, chair squeaking across the floor.
The young shifter walked quickly, despite trying to look calm. People could try to whisper, try to hide their intentions, but in a school full of mutants, many of whom had sensitive ears or mind reading capabilities, rumors spread quickly. Already the school was abuzz with police officer spottings. It didn't take Rowan long to find Ms. Sundance's office. He timidly knocked, and pushed the door open.
The young boy standing in the doorway looked like...well a young boy. He looked a little rough around the edges; his hair was messy and he was sporting a few bruises and cuts, but asides from that he looked like a young teenager. The oddest thing about him was his clothes, which appeared three sizes too big.
The first person Rowan saw was Liz. That wasn't much of a surprise, as this was her office.
"Hi Ms. Sundance..." Rowan stopped speaking, as the second person Rowan saw was Zorro. He had heard that Ms. Sundance had a dog, but getting to actually see him was like meeting a celebrity. And as hard as Rowan tried to be grumpy and standoffish, he couldn't help but look wide-eyed at the dog. Seemingly without thinking he asked; "Can I pet your dog Ms. Sundance?"
After a moment of starring excitedly at the dog Rowan realized there were other people with Liz. Two men. One well dressed, and the other wearing a police uniform. Rowan's blood ran cold. Instinctively he took a step back, slightly closing the door so he was only peeking out. He nervously stuttered, looking up at Liz.
"Is...is this about that Jack kid? I p-promise I only threatened him, I wasn't a-actually gonna knock his teeth out! And he said s-something gross about a girl in class..."
There was a twitch in Rowan's legs, as if he might bolt at any time. Ms. Sundance's office isn't too far from an exit, he might be able to make it outside before she could call someone. But without his coat braving the cold felt foolish.
Ms. Sundance welcomed Rowan into the office. Taking a quick, deep, breath, Rowan accepted he had been caught. He took a few steps into the office, closing the door behind him. He stood awkwardly by the door, not exactly sure where he should stand. He kept his eyes on the floor, but occasionally stole glances at Ms Sundance.

Rowan exhaled slowly, taking a moment to look around the area they had landed in. There was something about being outside, and not cooped up in his dorm, that filled Rowan with energy. He felt as if he could sprint into the woods and not come out for days. Of course, this idea was quickly put aside as Liz began reminding students to keep on the trail. Her vision, no doubt, aided by her bird friends.
But he really wanted to climb a tree.
Rowan huffed and rolled his eyes at Sam. He stuffed his freezing hands into his pockets. Rowan was hoping Sam would have cooled it (ugh cold pun) with the 'Fluffy' thing. Fluffy handled the trip just fine thank you! He probably had motion sickness too.
The rest of the students on this trip seemed...nice. He probably had a class with one of two of them, or walked by them in the hall. Socializing wasn't Rowan's strong suit, he didn't even speak to fellow students during class. And then the cat, who Rowan had assumed was one of Liz's animal friends, turned into a girl. Rowan blinked. Was the...cat a mutant who turned into a girl? Or was the girl a mutant who turned into a cat?
Rowan's musings were cut short as Xavier suddenly buddied up aside him. Rowan reflectively flinched as Xavier held out a hand. It quickly became clear that the other student, who basically towered over Rowan, wasn't trying to push him into a snowbank. Rowan returned the handshake with hesitation.
"I'm...uh, Rowan. Nice to...meet you?" He puffed up a bit at the nervous comment, furrowing his eyebrows. "And I wasn't nervous! I was...uh..." He couldn't think of an excuse fast enough. Luckily he didn't have to, as Xavier quickly had his attention grabbed by the cabin.
As the group approached Rowan perked up again, despite how cold he was. The worn out, hand-me-down, jacket his previous school gave him wasn't doing much to shield him from the wind. At least they were nearly inside.
Rowan breathed a sigh of relief. Aoi seemed to be calming down, her breathing had evened out. He dodged her questions about his mutation, clearly not wanting to talk about it, giving her a half hearted shrug when she asked if he shifted on anger.
He did, however, soften a bit when Aoi admitted she enjoyed being with them. He blushed a little, scratching at his head, when she called them nice. He wasn't nice. He was grouchy and liked getting in fights, that wasn't nice.
Aoi's last question started to disrupt his 'big brother' mood. He huffed, crossing his arms in front of his chest, looking away. He didn't owe Aoi any sort of explanation, he barely knew her! He'd just lie. Say the first time he got in a fight he shifted! Or he got hit by a car and shifting saved him! Or something else equally manly!
Rowan frowned. He really didn't want to say something that would scare Kalos, or give Aoi anxiety. But the longer he waited the harder it was to find a good lie.
"I...uhm..." Rowan mumbled.
Luckily, he didn't struggle for long. As Kalos suggested the group try baking. Rowan sat up quickly, as if someone had jabbed him in the side.
"Yes! Baking!" He practically yelped, thankful he got to skip over talking about his mutation.
When Kalos offered him a hand he blushed deeper, quickly looking away and trying to look cross.
"I can...stand on my own!"
He awkwardly got to his feet, avoiding eye contact with Kalos.
"I've...actually never baked before." He admitted. "Most of my cooking experience is in a microwave, or having food ladled onto a tray for me."

The shifter sighed. Yeah, Mr. Johnson had told him something similar, that if he at least tried then it wouldn't be a waste of time.
Rowan scratched nervously at his hands. It was so rare that he got to talk about his mutation, without fear of shifting. Instinctively he leaned a little closer to Gemma, as if fearful he would accidentally leave her aura.
"I had...I had been doing so well. I kept my powers suppressed for years. But then this most recent time happened, right before I got sent here, and...and I just couldn't hold it in anymore..."
He stopped, taking a shuttery breath. He looked down at his schedule, resting on his lap, and let out a nervous laugh.
"Oh yeah...I was just here for a schedule...you've probably got other meetings."

Rowan was sitting low in his seat, basically sinking into the chair. He looked a little tense, and rather pale.
This was only Rowan's second time in an aircraft but he could say, with one hundred percent certainty, that flying was not his preferred method of travel. Sam was correct to assume some of them hadn't been paying attention. Rowan hadn't been. His entire trip had been spent trying not to lose his breakfast.
He took a glance around the jet. He had, secretly, been hoping Aoi or Kalos was coming along on this little field trip, but neither of them seemed to be the type to skip class. And sure, Rowan knew the two adults, but knowing the chaperones wasn't exactly exciting.
The moment the jet landed Rowan was fumbling with his seatbelt, just thankful to be on solid ground again. He gave his head a shake, trying to adjust to the lower altitude. After a moment he followed Liz's lead. Rowan was about to fetch his backpack, but it was fetched for him by a fellow student.
Oh boy this guy was...friendly...
Rowan exited the aircraft, sneakers sinking into the snow. It was...colder than he expected. The young shifter stood awkwardly off to the side, holding his bag to his chest. Maybe he should have just opted for an extra written assignment.

Rowan stood quietly as Sam spoke. And while the young shifter still looked puffed up and grumpy, he no longer looked like he was on the verge of breaking something. Sam had been able to reason him out of his rage, although he wouldn't want to admit it.
Who was he? He was Rowan. A rotten kid and a horrible monster. He grumbled under his breath.
Normal...that was all Rowan wanted to be now. And he had been so close to being normal, getting to be a regular kid, but using his power was what ruined those chances. Maybe he just had to accept that living a normal life was beyond his reach now.
With a huff Rowan stomped away, heading towards the kitchen's exit. He stopped in the doorway and, finally, took a deep breath. He turned slightly back towards Sam.
"Fine."His voice again was soft, dejected. "When's my next session."
He was too exhausted to fight back anymore. He'd have another Danger Room session, and he'd prove to Sam that he wasn't worth teaching.

Sam's calm and cool responses only seemed to rile Rowan up more. And why did this guy keep drinking his coffee when they were having such an important conversation?
Rowan tensed up again.
"I was doing just fine before I showed up here! And I’ve never killed someone! There was just a moment of hesitation in his voice.
“And I'm sure if I shifted some X-Men or whatever would come and kill me! And no one would even care!"
His voice cracked slightly, the young mutant tensing up to ignore the stinging in his eyes. He tried to take a deep breath, to calm himself down, but he was overwhelmed...by everything. From being alone at a weird new school to coming to terms with the fact that he'd have to get used to shifting. He didn't want to control his mutation, he wanted it gone.
Something about the last thing Sam said resonated with Rowan, and his expression softened just a bit. He was a monster, that much was clear to the young mutant, but he didn't want to be a weapon. He didn't want to hurt people. And the way Sam phrased it...maybe he could relate to the younger mutant.
He tried to puff up again, tried to sound angry, but his defenses were slipping.

The young mutant hopped off the counter with his glass, walking towards the sink. He shrugged.
"I mean...calling it 'Fluffy' or 'Spot' really won't change what it is."
Rowan noticed Sam acting a little...weird? He seemed really serious all of a sudden, no more smirks and bad jokes. And then Sam broke the news to Rowan. He slowly turned to face Sam, his blood running cold. He had to...do more sessions in the Danger Room...He paused a moment, unsure if he heard him correctly.
"N-no...that's not...fair...I was told there was an evaluation...I didn't...know..." His voice grew soft, his hands shaking.
And just like that the feeling of calm was gone from Rowan. The Monster was back and gnawing on his heart, filling him with fear.
"Gonna be the safest option for everyone."
Rowan inhaled sharply, puffed up, hands in tight fists by his side, his disbelief and pleading turning very quickly to anger.
"That's...that's bull****! Is teaching a dog with a biting problem how to bite more the 'safest option for everyone'?!" Rowan snarled, sharp teeth showing. "You can't...you can't make me! I refuse!"
The young mutant winced, his head swimming with the sudden rush of emotions. For a moment he swayed slightly, his body still exhausted from his shift. But Rowan fought through it, he wasn't about to faint now.

Rowan frowned slightly. He didn't like thinking about how the monster was part of him, or how it might want to stretch it's legs more often. But that didn't matter. He was done shifting. He was going to be a normal kid from now on. The pat on the back and the slight increase in walking speed made Rowan groan, but he wasn't about to admit defeat in front of his teacher.
He listened to Sam, occasionally looking up at his teacher. It was...odd, hearing an adult talk about a time where he didn't have control. Rowan hadn't expected him to be so...open about it. His thoughts were paused by the two almost getting run over by some speeding students, and Sam reprimanding them. Rowan looked at the fellow students curiously, still getting used to the whole 'living with a lot of mutants' thing.
Rowan gave the two students a timid wave before following Sam into the kitchen. Once inside Rowan immediately hopped onto one of the counters, thankful to finally have a place to sit down. He had made it to the kitchen without passing out, gold star for the day. He accepted the glass of water with shaky hands. He was going to say thank you, but his instincts took over. Rowan chugged the glass of water with ferocity, some of it running down his chin. Halfway through he began to cough and sputter, his body unable to keep up.
The young mutant wiped his chin on his sleeve, forcing himself to drink the rest of the water slowly. The cold being very refreshing.
>>"Why I know you can’t be a weapon. You don’t want to hurt anyone.”
Rowan looked down at his cup, hands still shaking from exhaustion.
"I don't...think I want to hurt anyone...even the other two time's I shifted...I just wanted to scare them...'cause I was scared..." He looks up at Sam. "And I'm not counting this last time, you baited me into shifting!"
He closes his eyes, a slight smile on his face.
"But that's okay! I'm all done with the Danger Room and shifting and stuff! I finished my evaluation and now all I have to worry about is math!"

As the tour moved into the science classroom Rowan's curiosity swelled again. His eyes darted around the room, through all the shelves and tables. There was just so much...stuff! And things! It was almost overwhelming. None of the science classes he attended had this much stuff in them! It was hard to trust troubled youth with chemicals, scalpels, and gas burners.
There were even beakers, just like in scienc-y movies!
His gaze eventually ended on the dog bed, and he remained looking at the bed for a long time. He had already established that Ms. Sundance wasn't a shifter...did that mean the school had a dog? Like a real dog?! Rowan couldn't even remember the last time he got to pet a dog.
Oh shoot Liz was asking a question. Rowan looked away from the dog bed and turned his attention back towards Liz. He didn't make eye contact or anything, but he did turn to face her.
"The school's...nice. It, uhm, feels familiar but also really...different."
Rowan huffed quietly, that hadn't made as much sense as it did in his head.

>> “Shall we?”
Rowan nodded, joining Liz at her side. And the two began the official tour. Rowan kept close to Liz, but still glanced into classrooms or down halls.
The young mutant was still surprised by how...normal this place was. It felt just like any other school he had been sent to. But spotting the occasional student with a physical mutation reminded Rowan where he had ended up. Still it was certainly nice to get the tour while the halls and classrooms were empty, less people starring at him.
After a few minutes into the tour he began asking questions again. Lots of simple questions like how many students attended the school, and how many his age. He asked about certain classes, and if they had a lot of homework or reading assignments. He asked if the library had good study material for tests. Despite Rowan's...rougher past and appearance, it was clear that he was interested in learning.
But Rowan was also asking about where he could find pencils and notebooks. He really hadn't arrived at the school with much, only the one bag. So while Rowan seemed excited for his classes he also appeared woefully unprepared for them.

The shifter tipped his head like a curious dog. Desiccated? Like...dead? Like a Zombie Dinosaur? That was probably the coolest concept for a movie like...ever. Dinosaurs come back to life, but they are zombies and try to take over the world...something like that.
Rowan was pulled from his 'next hit movie' daydream by the clinking of metal trays. Oh yeah, the two were supposed to be cleaning up. The young mutant hopped down from his chair and quietly brought his plate and cutlery over to a sink. He wasn't entirely sure if he was doing the correct thing, but couldn't easily spot a dishwasher.
At least his plate was off the counter. He turned in Liz's direction. Rowan looked slightly more relaxed, his posture less stiff than it had been as he explained his mutation, but he was still too nervous to make eye contact. Regardless, the mention of zombie dinosaurs didn't seem to disturb him.
"I'd still like a tour...if that's alright..." He paused a moment, scratching at his face in thought. "Mostly the classrooms...I don't want to be lost first day of classes."

Rowan sat quietly as Liz cleaned up, not entirely sure how to help. He was still lost in thought. Would he really have to tell...everyone about his mutation? He already felt ashamed and freakish saying it once, no less if he had to do it multiple times a day.
At the mention of other shifter students Rowan sat up slightly. He still was not making eye contact, but he was less curled up than before. The idea of meeting students with a similar mutation to him was both comforting and terrifying. It would be amazing to meet people who might understand him, but Rowan still was struggling with his identity as a mutant. What if these students were better at controlling their mutations? Or found Rowan's lack of control juvenile?
But he really didn't know how to say that, so instead he said,
"Oh...that's cool..."
And yeah, Griffons were alright, but dinosaurs were really cool. Rowan sat up a little more, uncrossing his arms.

Rowan almost smiled, the corners of his mouth twitching, as Aoi began listing things she could smell, going along with Rowan's meditative game. It...It wasn't like he cared about these two girls or anything! He just...didn't want Aoi to shift. Because if she shifted, he would shift too, and that would have been a disaster. Plus he knew all too well what Aoi was feeling. The constant panic attacks, the fear that the next slip up would be deadly, it was all...painfully relatable.
And suffering alone through the panic sucked, he wouldn't wish that upon anyone. It was rare that he got to be the voice of reason, the one in control.
Kalo's response to life in Atlantis surprised Rowan. He really didn't know much about their culture, and really only heard the more idyllic, touristy, side of things. Rowan realized that he could sympathize with Kalos too, he had been abandoned and cast out too. Although Kalos' struggles were on a much, much, larger scale.
Rowan had only realized he was starring again when Kalos turned to face him, prompting the boy to look away. He nodded, her question was a good one.
"Yeah...eating can be a good distraction.". He looked around the kitchen. "When I get...nervous...I like to eat things that are really really hot or really really cold. Ya know...to shock me out of it.
He laughed slightly, more like a quick exhale through his nose.
"I would chew on ice a lot to keep my temper in check. It's hard to be mad when your mouth is all cold."
Rowan turned to Aoi, giving the tiniest of smiles to let her know things were okay.
