The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

((OOC: Kealey-talk approved by Kealey, and godmoding permission granted to get us out of the bar.))
"..."
With all the hip-hand-resting posturing and the raspberry-blowing hilarity, a strange thought couldn’t help itself but work its way through Aurum’s mind. They were acting like children… and he was acting like mom. It wasn’t a fun thought, just a repeated one. He put a hand to his forehead, and bowed his head for a second.
Ugh, tonight. Next time Shin needed cheering up, they’d take him out to dinner at a nice restaurant or something. No drinking. At least, not how they’d been drinking. Even he had to admit he’d had a healthy helping of his drink.
He swung his attention back to Kealey as she pulled out her ID. Aurum stared at it. “Er…” He’d wanted directions, not an address… but it was better than nothing. She was lucky she was a cute drunk.
The address she had on the card was for the Iris Clinic. Iris Clinic… He paused to recall where he’d heard that name before. It took a second, thanks to the good ol inebriation experience. He’d walked with Ghost there, before. It was where her husband worked.
>> ”If you’re going to cook….we should definitely go.”
The trap had been sprung. Both Shin and the blond Irish-woman had been caught.
“Okay. Grab your things. Hey, Mister.” Aurum waved the waiter over, and reached into his wallet. He dropped down some money. “I’d like to pay for the drinks, and—“ How much was all that, again? Probably a lot—
Kealey interrupted his thought with a comment.
>>"Now hold on a minute...you're not paying for all that...you hardly drank anything!"
She insisted on paying for her part of the tab. Aurum smiled weakly, and looked to the waiter. “Er… guess the lady insists.” He had no problems with letting her help with the payment. There were a few minutes of shuffling, while Kealey insisted on paying for part of the tab and struggled to get the proper bank card free of its wallet prison, then Aurum paid his own part, and Shin warily added a couple notes to the pile. Aurum handled the tip. He smiled at the waiter. The man had been more than understanding. He was compensated handsomely. Aurum made a note to hop by this place again, when there wasn’t as heavy a mood.
He rose from the table, and lured Shin and Kealey out the door.
Twenty minutes of drunken stumbling (and two Irish drinking songs) later, the ragtag group of drunkards had reached the clinic. Aurum eyed the front door, and looked to Kealey.
“You handle it from here,” he stated. The alcohol was finally starting to catch up with him (not that it hadn’t been on his heels before). Aurum suddenly wanted a nap. And maybe a sandwich. In that order.
He shifted the sluggish Shin off his shoulder, and stretched his arms behind his head with a long yawn.
"..." This was Aurum's murderous face. There were many other expressions like it, but this was his own. As Shin went on and on about how 'perfeccly fine' he was, and how thirsty he could be, Aurum smiled a sugar-sweet smile. "Hey, Shin?"
His eyes shifted to Kealey. She said she was fine, too. "And Kealey..." He added, with the air of a peacemaker. "What say we get out of here. I think we've drank enough, and I'm getting tired. If we go now," he pushed the last of his drink out of Shin's reach, over towards Kealey. "Maybe, I can make something good for everyone to eat."
"You said you live near here?" Aurum asked Kealey. "Could you... show us where?" He didn't want to find a bus this time of night, or try driving any vehicles they had parked near Full Circle home. He was still a little fuzzy, even if he was playing the role of the designated killer of buzz.

Well look at Shin's rapport, Aurum noted as Maxine and the kid conversed. First, it was 'magical', then it was 'very artistic'. He was certainly aiming to flatter. Good for him.
It had been, what, 2 months? 3? Since he'd broken up with his girl. Showing interest in another one was a sure sign of moving on. Especially when it was someone like Maxine Ralls.
He'd have to support this decision, and help it on.
>>"Why yes, yes I am. And you are?"
"My name's Aurum," he answered her question. Shin followed up with his own introduction. Aurum continued. "Do you think you could show us around? If you aren't too busy with..." His eyes dropped to the creature hanging from the horseshoe magnet. Aurum smiled innocently. "Things."

>>"Sounds great. I have had dark coffee before, if my memory is correct."
"I think I served you it," Aurum replied with a knowing smile. As for the dishes... he rinsed the dish she handed him, and dried it off with a towel. One good drying later, it made its way to the rack.
>>"May I ask you something Aurum?"
He swung his head to face her. "Go ahead."
What was she wondering...?
>>"Do you do this very often?...Bring home random people to entertain as guests?"
...
"It depends on the person," Aurum replied. "Some people, I don't trust with my kitchen. You seemed nice."

>>”You might see her enough, but I’ll bet her friends decide they don’t see you enough. I wonder if she’s going to be the type of sibling who will be disgusted by the cow eyed looks her friends give you or if she’ll think it’s great.”
"That... would be worrisome." Aurum commented. His right eyebrow rose slightly at what Kealey was suggesting. "Worrisome on two counts. First," he tilted his head. "The obvious. Second, the less obvious." He shook his head. "Ami's the type to make life difficult for any girl who expresses any sort of interest in me. She... might lose friends... she might kill them." A joke. Haha. Aurum didn't laugh.
Kealey could probably hone in on the less-than-serious emotion running under his oh-so-serious face. Ami wouldn't kill a girl. Probably. But there was always torture.
"And no," Aurum replied. "I haven't made any good fish and chips lately. Haven't had anyone I needed to impress."

--Bump--
Nudge nudge.
Aurum nudged Shin's shoulder, eyes fixated on the redheaded reporter directly in front of them. A polite grin was firmly cemented to his face. "Hi," Aurum began. "My friend here was wondering if someone around here might be able to show him around the campus. We're kind of lost, and-- hey. Are you Maxine Ralls?"
Floating pens, paperclips going wild. Freckles and red hair. He might have been soggy, but he couldn't possibly have missed that. The star of “Equal in Stupidity” was hard to miss.

Drunk. Both of them were filthy, head-over-heels oopsy daisy Bob's your Mother, drunk. Aurum felt a very strange feeling pass through him. A feeling of compassion mixed with reprimand, and a hint of guilt-tripping. He paused. His eyes widened.
"My god." He was thoroughly considering acting like his mother. The oh-so-tempting finger wag dropped, as it could be construed as a 'high five'... then, Aurum shrugged and met Kealey's palm with a light slap, because 'what the hell'.
>>”You’re going to be a lawyer!”
She cheered. And for a moment, God help him, he was reminded of his ex-girlfriend Viletta.
"Yes. Yes, I am." He replied, a slight hint of sarcasm on his tongue. "And we're going to have to get out of here. Both of you are very drunk... can't have you stumbling into traffic... but... my place isn't close enough, and... hrm." Aurum had been on a roll. He hit a speed bump. His diatribe slowed. "Where are we gonna take you two...?" It was the question of the night.

>>"I can not say I have ever used one of those before... are they terribly expensive to purchase?"
He turned to reply, and noted she was already busy working on the dishes. That... he'd been willing to do them, himself, but if she wanted to help, then okay.
"A coffee maker isn't that bad. Usually, the recipe calls for about 3 fluid ounces of espresso. Espresso machines are more expensive. I'm going with the cheaper route, and brewing some good dark coffee." Aurum replied.
>>"It might sound odd, but i rather miss washing dishes. I haven't had to clean nearly anything at all for at least a few months now..."
"By all means," he smirked. "I can help with the drying, if you want?" Aurum walked over to her side, and grabbed a towel from a drawer. He stood near the drying rack.

>>"Frozen... latte?"
"Mhmm." Aurum replied.
>>"Sure! and I promise before hand not to touch anything this time."
She grinned. Aurum gave a light laugh. "Okay. I'll do my best to teach you, without botching it all."
He took a long sip of his water, the corners of his mouth rising in a smirk as he washed the salty taste of the bad cake away. Yes, away... gone, bad cake. Bye bye.
>>"Shall we deposit these in the sink first?"
Andrea rose with her plate.
"Sure," Aurum replied. He paused. "Maybe we should do the dishes before things get out of hand? I think I could manage a little dish-washing while the coffee was put to brew."
He stood up, and took his cake-filled plate to the garbage to lovingly scrape it away. As the yellow cake flopped into the trash bin like glowing uranium, he cast a glance towards his espresso machine and grinder in the corner. The machine was black and innox, with a metallic sheen of professionalism fit for home-use. The grinder was like a blender, with a glass container up top, and a white base with black spots (just like a cow).
Maybe, I should show her how to make it using the good ol 'strong brew instead of the espresso machine, he mused. That was the way normal people made it. People that hadn't spent far too much money on expensive espresso machines (it was worth it).
He walked his plate over to the sink, then measured grounds into the coffee machine for a strong pot, and started her up.
Aurum turned back to Andrea with a smile. "It should be brewed up in a bit."

Aurum smirked. "I guess it's true what they say. 'Too many cooks spoil the broth.' We'll have to be more careful, next time..." Next time... "Gosh, I hope the moussaka turns out alright." Aurum laughed. Though, with that, he'd listened to her orders, and done exactly as she'd said. It couldn't possibly turn out awful like the cake... he... hoped.
And prayed.
Aurum sighed a contented sigh. "Heh. So, I guess we need to find something else to eat while we wait. Do you want me to show you how to make a frozen caramel latte?"

"Uh," Aurum pointed to the location that definitely was not where Andrea had grabbed 'powdered sugar'. He looked at her. Could she really have been the cause...? He didn't want to blame it all on her. She looked embarrassed enough. "Maybe, I... I did add some things while you weren't looking. I thought you were paying attention."

"Really?" He hoped that didn't sound as hesitant and disbelieving as he thought it did. Aurum cut himself a slice, speared a piece, and brought it to his mouth... and any moisture within instantly died of fright.
Aurum coughed.
"No. No, it really isn't." He thumped his chest. "Something here went horribly, horribly wrong... I'm ... sorry. This has never happened to me before." It was so awful. Dry, and gooey, yet at the same time, hard. And salty. Why wasn't it sweeter? He set his fork down.
How could this even have happened? Aurum's head bowed. He shook it disbelievingly. "I thought we followed the recipe..."

Ready. The timer was set, and they were ready. The moussaka was in the oven, and they were ready. They were ready. To try. The cake.
"I'll set the table," Aurum said. He slipped over to a drawer, and gathered plates and silverware. A minute later, the table was set. Call it prolonging the inevitable. Call it setting the table. Call it what you will. Aurum poured himself another glass of water, and looked to Andrea. "Do you want anything else to drink with your cake?" Had she finished the soda she'd been drinking earlier? He couldn't remember. Aurum pulled out his chair, brought the cake over to the table, and sat down. The cake was probably fine.
Probably. In a puffy sort of way.
Aurum grabbed his fork and sword, and prepared to cut in. He looked to Andrea with a smile. "You can have the first slice."
One cut revealed gooey 'goodness?' Goodness. Aurum lifted the gooey butter cake onto a plate for her, and passed it across the table. It looked... 'yum?'
He waited on her reaction before he cut himself a slice.

A smile was enough. As Aurum sought off on his epic quest for tape, he knew she had appreciated his comment. That fueled the fire for the dramatic bow later. The dramatic bow that led to giggling. He'd given her the tape. The mission was a success.
Aurum nodded as she thanked him, and swung his attention towards the cooking that had gone on while he'd been fighting closet dragons. It looked like he still had a tiny bit of chopping to do. As she delivered her next line, he moved to quickly finish his job.
>>"The next step is to Salt the Eggplant and set them aside. It allows some of the moisture to be absorbed from them before cooking."
That sounded about right. Aurum moved his eggplant to the paper towels, and added a light application of salt.
>>"While the olive oil is heating up in that pan, we will be starting the sauce in this one..."
She slipped past him. He turned to look at her, and show his understanding. "Got it."
>>"We want to heat it up to just boiling, then remove it from the heat and let it sit until we add it in later."
>>"Go ahead and start on the meat and spices, they should get come about the same time as the eggplant if we time it right."
Aurum grabbed the recipe as she pointed it out. He glanced over the details. It all seemed straightforward enough. He moved to work on the meat and spices, doing everything the recipe said. Cinnamon, nutmeg, fines herbs and parsley went in when appropriate. Tomato sauce and... wine? He looked around. Did he still have some red wine? Aurum walked over to where he kept that sort of thing, and checked. Sure enough, he had enough for the recipe. He added it.
A short while later, he turned to Andrea.
"Well, I've done everything the recipe calls for on my part." He stated. Aurum swung his focus to the oven. "Think it's about time for the butter cake to come out, so we can put this in?" Time had passed, alright, and this moussaka took an hour to bake. They'd have time to talk over the cake, it seemed.
He walked over, and used potholders to pull the cake from the oven. Aurum set it safely tucked away on the counter to cool, then adjusted the heat slightly for the moussaka. Once that was done, he examined the cake.
" . . . Looks good." He commented. Did... did the cake usually look like that?
