The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>”Good thing I know a little signing then. Well at least I only roared the once.”
The princess rolled her eyes. If the roaring was going to be a regular thing, that was going to be a problem. Her ears did not take kindly to the sound. She did not fault Carrick for it, inexperienced as he was, but she did not really want to repeat the experience. Unlike the... rest of the experience.
>>”Fer you and me to be doing... that? Dunno? We both agreed on it right? Can’t see what the problem would be unless they had some diplomatic rule to keep ya away from bad boys like me.”
The princess was quiet for a moment. She did not really have a diplomatic anything as far as dating went, since dating was not on the Atlantean radar. But if she had any kind of a public relationship with a gorgon... her cousin was going to have a field day with that. "Well, we are both over eighteen now" she mused "So that is good, in American standards, right? I'm... not sure there are diplomatic rules. None that I was told anyway."
Amethyst had had a concubine before, but with him, she usually knew where they were standing the next morning. Right now, she had no idea. She wasn't even sure she wanted to know.
>>"Nah, good morning. Yeah, more sorry about the roar and the mess. I feel like we both share the blame on that one."
"I might be a little deaf still" she noted, poking at her ear and wrinkling her nose. Definitely stunning in the moment, the roar had never been designed for close range.
>>”Seemed to do alright fer meself... So am I on the honor role now or do I still keep me C average?”
"You really want me to grade you on this?" she arched an eyebrow "I remember me being the one who told you you'd learn..."
And he did, no complaints on that part. She was not sure about the whole grading thing, but she was satisfied. And he had been all cute about it, before he had time to find his usual bravado.
>>"Surprised no one barged in last night...”
"Yeah, me too." the princess admitted "Do you think it would have been a problem?"
Carrick was up and purring again. Amethyst shifted to look at him, mismatched eyes and all. "Hey." Somewhere under the blankets his tail was doing its own thing, but he did not seem ready to move just yet. The princess winced, wiggling until she fished some gems out from under her hip, and then waved a feather away from his wing. "What a mess..." she muttered, not serious annoyed. She was warm and mostly comfortable. One wing was still draped over her like a feathered blanket.
The roar probably woke up half the Mansion. The princess wondered if anyone was going to come knocking, but no one bothered. Her ears kept ringing for a long time in the quiet after, along with Carrick's soft purring that eventually must have lulled her to sleep, because the next thing she knew it was early morning.
The teaching... had gone well. The bed was a mess, complete with assorted gemstones, loose feathers (both the wing kind and the pillow kind) and a very content-looking Carrick. The princess' half-asleep mind still marveled at the fact that she was sharing her bed with someone who had wings and a tail and a persistent voice in his head. But she was not complaining about any of it. Carrick was a quick learner, and once he got over his initial anxieties, he really had nothing to be ashamed of.
Amethyst sighed, and snuggled closer, sneezing as a feather somehow got under her nose.
She could hear the hesitation in his voice, but he was also purring, which was nice. The princess would have been content for the night just with the cuddling and purring. Not that she would not enjoy other things too. But it felt right.
>>”Uh... remember that thing you wanted to do? ...I... think I’m ready. I’m just worried he’s gonna try and step in...”
He turned to look at her, and Amethyst shifted so they could be face to face. She could tell he was telling the truth; it was always easy to tell if someone was attracted to her. And she could also tell he was worried. Even with what happened earlier, he was still afraid of his own other form. The princess considered this for a while. The beast making an appearance... that would have been bad. But that was not a good reason to stay away from Carrick. A small part of her mind still wondering what she was doing in bed with a gorgon at all, she reached up to place a hand on his cheek.
"Let me talk to him." she leaned in closer, looking into Carrick's eyes, at the risk of sounding completely ridiculous. "Mate. Carrick and I. Not you. Got it?"
"Yes?" she looked at him, confused. Was this another thing she misunderstood? Did he not want to stay for the night? It was really hard to guess what was going on in his head. When he stood, she was sure he was going to bolt again.
>>”I can turn it off.”
"Don't." she liked the purring. And after the day she had, it was very soothing to hear him purr. She liked the rumbling sound. He wanted to make sure she was safe, and she felt safe when he was around. It was strange. But eventually he did get into the bed.
>>”So... heh. Really glad yer alright...”
"I don't understand you, Carrick" she sighed, moving to snuggle against him. He was warm. And confusing. She'd take that, for now. She didn't really need a long explanation, even if he could give her one. "Is this alright?"
The kiss was well received. It certainly stopped the rambling, anyway. She would have wanted more of it, but she did not want to push things too far. He looked happy.
>> ”Best keep that method a secret love. Lots of people try to get me to stop talking.”
The princess chuckled. Surely this was not a method for everyone. When she asked him about their previous conversation, he blushed again. The tail swatted at her nevously.
>>”Hard to remember which question I wanted ta ask ya... I mean it doesn’t matter right now.”
The princess arched an eyebrow. What else did he have on his mind? Did he always have to have something on his mind...?
>>”Mind if I sleep here tonight?... I mean, ya can say no. Just want to make sure yer okay. Crazy day."
"Sure." the princess smiled and nodded, before shifting on the bed to peel back the covers. "To be honest... I don't want to be alone either." Even with the rescue, being kidnapped had been a scary experience. And being all alone in her room, far from home would have been... too much for the night.
The princess nestled under the covers, tossing the towel to the floor. "Are you going to purr?"
Carrick clearly liked her hands touching his wings and his back. She was pleased with his reaction. Maybe in time he would feel relaxed enough that he would not act awkward about it.
>>”Oh that’s good because... Thought only the big guy liked that. I’m not taking ya back there. It be very... un-hero like.”
This was not that time.
>>”Still gonna have to be smarter when we go out next though... Flying only, that way no one can stop ya on the road and tell ya to get in to their vehicle. No traffic stops in the air. Disguises too maybe. Fer you not me... kinda hard to hide what I am or who I am.”
He was rambling again. Last time he'd rambled things did not turn out great. Amethyst was still not sure what prompted him to act this way; it was not like she was trying to push him. She was not used to being the... caretaking half of a relationship. Risking another mistake by trying to get the conversation back on track, she leaned in and pressed a kiss to his lips.
"You're talking too much." she noted "There was something you wanted to talk to me about. Earlier. What was it?"
>>”Could have. Been in worse situations. Know how to handle meself.”
Amethyst knew he had been through many fights, and situations that had been much worse. The cloaked figures throwing powers around was a disturbing memory, but they got through it with minor injuries, therefore it could have been a lot worse. Still, she did not like thinking about it, or about how Carrick was hurt. She moved on to his other wing, enjoying the purring as she pointed out he had been reckless.
>>”Didn’t have time not to be. Every second I wasted with them was another second you were in danger... Sides, I got to ya first.”
Being royalty, Amethyst was used to being protected. Even though her cousin deemed she would be safe enough at Xavier's without guards, back home in Atlantis she had always been guarded. The difference was, even the most loyal guards did not protect her the way Carrick did. Their motivations were different.
"I wasn't complaining" she grinned at him as he looked back, running her hands down his back.
Carrick spread his wings with obvious pride, and the princess smiled a little. Now she was getting somewhere. Not that she had ulterior motives, not really, but at least when he was showing off he was more comfortable around her. As he sat down she shifted to sit behind him, careful not to sit on the tail.
>>”Only cause ya asked nicely. They don’t look too bad.”
"They really don't. But the fire was not nice." she noted, running her fingers along his shoulders. She ran her hands along the top of one wing, dipping her fingers under the feathers occasionally. She was not sure what to say, so she just tucked the singed feathers here and there, but this time there was a little more to it than just preening. She clearly enjoyed what she was doing. Half her Atlantean family would have died of shame to see her like this. "You could have been more seriously hurt" she noted as she reached another burned feather. "They said you were reckless."
>>”Couldn’t tell ya. I think it’s just around you. You make me nervous."
She was still not sure she understood. If someone liked someone else, seeing them naked should have been easier, not more awkward. Like, Carrick was pretty nice to look at. Which she did, as he clambered out of the shower.
>>”I’m working on it though. Even managed to hop in the shower with ya.”
"Very well done" the princess smiled a little as he shook the water off his wings and tail. She'd already noted the purring earlier. It felt nice to be clean again. "Come on." She led the way back to her room, sitting down on the bed. They had been there before, and it had not gone great. But for now, she had other plans. Maybe not all of this had to be about one thing. As strange as it sounded. "Let me take a look at your wings."
Alright, so maybe the shower was not designed for two people, not when one had wings and a tail. Not when said person was still trying to cover himself. Eventually, after some shuffling around, Amethyst gave him a look and turned her back on him, focusing her attention on washing her own hair. They would work on the looking issue later.
>>”What’s wrong with me wings?”
"They are singed" she pointed out, glancing over her shoulder. He'd have to be preened later. For now, he needed to get clean, and stop trying to keel over from embarrassment. Ducking under his wing, she got out of the shower, finding a fluffy towel to wrap herself in. The shower idea was decidedly less smooth than she'd intended. "So, what is up with the whole modesty thing?" she ventured, holding a towel out for Carrick once he managed to extract himself from the shower "I mean, I understand that you don't like being naked around people, but why?"
Carrick managed to get rid of the rest of the clothes, although he still looked very bashful about being naked. He even moved his wings to cover himself up as much as possible, which was endearing, in a way. The princess smiled a little as she discarded her dress and moved to start the water in the shower. It was fairly spacious, but not as much as the bathtub. Still, easier when one was dealing with a lot of dirt.
>> ”...T-There enough room for both of us and the wings?”
"I think so?" she stepped in first, after making sue the water was warm enough. It was refreshing to feel water on her skin, it seemed to wash away the stress of the day they had. Carrick hesitated for a moment, then stepped in too. She turned around to look up at him (there really was not much space in the shower), wiping the wet hair out of her face.
"You can use the soaps and the shampoo." she offered. She knew some of those were probably too strongly scented for his nose, but she didn't really have an alternative. "I'll... take a look at your wings later."
The shirt came off pretty easily, given that it was in tatters. They could toss it in the trash later. Amethyst looked up at Carrick as he spread his wings again. He was in need of preening.
>>”All ya had to do is tell me to lose the clothes.”
"Lose the clothes." the princess nodded, stepping back to kick off her shoes and work on the straps of her own dress. At least he was not resisting this time.
>>”Wings will be alright. I’m sure there is a lesson in this somewhere. Not gonna learn it though if you keep taking me clothes off though. You just like seeing me naked.”
"I do" she agreed unironically. He was good looking, after all. It was not something she would have ever noted about a gorgon before... but a lot had changed in the past months. She knew he got all kinds of awkward the last time, so she was not going to push him. "I'm going to shower, anyway, I'm covered in dirt. You can join me if you want... Or you can wait your turn." He was allowed to make up his own mind.
There was a lot to talk about, and a lot of emotions to sort through. However, Amethyst felt worn, and positively grimy after the ordeal at the warehouse. She was not going to stand around having a difficult conversation like this. And Carrick did not look any better.
>>”Thought this was me new look? How else are heroes supposed to look? Eh, yer lovely.”
"I know. By my clothes don't." she pointed out, looking at her torn and dirty dress. Carrick opened his wings. It was clear the fire had done damage. He needed to clean up too, but he seemed reluctant to leave.
>>”Ya fine with me coming back after I change?”
"Come on." she reached out, taking him by the hand and pulling him towards the bathroom. It was not like he had not been there before. It seemed to be a recurring theme. Once they were in there, she started working on peeing what remained of his shirt off of him. There was not much left. "Are your wings hurting?"
