The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Amethyst was aware that Carrick had left, but she was too comfortable nestled in the royal sized bed to press the issue. He would be back. They lived together now, for better or worse - worse, in this case, represented by a faculty member that also happened to be a household appliance. Getting up very early. If the past two days since this strange living arrangement had begun were any indication, DJ Roomba was going to get stuck a lot, trying to ingest stray gemstones around the apartment.
The princess wrapped herself in a pale silk robe, and emerged from the bedroom - only to find her consort lying in the middle of the living room floor, half naked. It was not exactly an unusual sight - the room had large windows facing east, and Carrick liked to sunbathe - but the raw meat and the dirt were a little concerning.
Crouching next to Carrick, Amethyst made sure he was purring, then headed to the kitchen area to get some breakfast.
>>"Pfffttt admirable. Can’t describe a warrior that way! Fierce! She was fierce! She took on that giant beasty all by herself, part of her training though init? She’s an X-person after all!”
Amethyst chuckled at Carrick's excitement. He was right, warriors deserved to be celebrated. She was familiar with that. Praxi, on her part, looked as close to blushing as someone with her... body ever would get.
>>”I mean, I don’t know about warrior… I’m just an X-Man. It felt like I should do what I can, even as a trainee. Do you think fighting a world-ending titan warrants graduation?”
"I don't think graduation has anything do with it?" she ventured. "You fought a battle. You're a warrior." That was all there was to it.
>>”Shame ‘bout the mansion though. Might be sleeping on a lot of couches.”
>>”Yeah, I hadn’t really let myself think about that yet. Besides, you know, Atlantean streets, I’ve never really lived somewhere besides the Mansion. Hopefully they set us up with something safe.”
Praxi raised a toast to the school, and people echoed the words; Amethyst raised a glass too. She didn't live there anymore, but it had been her home for a long time. And she knew good people lost their home with it. She arched an eyebrow at Carrick, though.
"What do you mean, couches? You're not coming home?..." That was strange, Carrick and her had been living together in her apartment a few streets away from the school. She turned, giving Praxi a hesitant look. The comment about the streets of Atlantis struck a chord. "You can stay at our place if you want. There is space..."
Amethyst was relieved to have Carrick in one piece. Well... first several pieces, but that went away by the time they met at the strip club. The princess had never been in here, but the concept didn't bother her. The mood was generally jubilant, although everyone did look a bit worn and exhausted, and for good reason. They had fought a mighty battle. That she could understand. For once, she was surprisingly gentle with her boyfriend, putting the sass aside.
"I saw it on the screens." She nodded, wrapping an arm around her waist as she also got a drink. "You fought very bravely."
Praxi chimed in from her other side. She had caught glimpses of her too on the screens; she had been fighting.
>>"Yeah, Princess. So majestic. Because the world definitely needed a fleet of Carricks,"
"Well... I could do with more of them. Sometimes." The princess grinned, raising her glass. "I didn't know you were also a warrior, Eupraxia. That was... admirable."
>>”Ya sure ya want to go back to the mansion? Place doesn’t seem so bad.”
There used to be a time when Amethyst would have killed to stay in Atlantis. But now... things were different. She was returning alongside Carrick, who was her lover, and being seen by a whole bunch of people who, not so long ago, would have cried scandal at the sight. Amethyst still felt tense, holding her chin up in a regal way, daring anyone to make a comment.
>>”Should I say something to her? Maybe a ‘thank you’?... Oh Praxi’s doing so great! So nice of them ta invite us along.”
"This is not a holiday visit" she reminded Carrick as they tagged along, to the library that he had never really cared much for in her childhood. Some of those gems sparkling in the decorations had come from her. "Try not to steal any of those" she muttered to her boyfriend, seeing him make cat-like eyes at everything.
>>"Your time abroad appears to have done you some good, cousin,"
Of course the queen had to be smug about it. Amethyst gave her a nod. As they descended into the underground rooms, she couldn't help but look around curiously. She had never been down there before. Suddenly, she felt much like a useless part of the royal family. She drew closer to Carrick.
They all crammed into the back of a cab. Amethyst tried to pull the wings asclose as possible, but they were still at an awkward angle, and she kept having the urge to adjust them, with a lot of rustling. Not to mention the tail. She was beginning to understand why Carrick hated enclosed spaces. The driver seemed a little freaked out, too.
>>”Well… I’m sorry you have the chance to feel like a princess. Maybe after a day you’ll learn to appreciate it? Being someone else and experiencing life how they do, especially someone you’re close to is an eye opening experience. I would know. Maybe. If not, try to take it as a learning experience.”
"I hate this." she muttered, trying not to move around too much. She glanced over at the woman sitting with them, the woman who had changed them and now could not change them back. "Why do you do this to people?"
Two days. If the woman did not manage to swap them back, Amethyst was stuck being Carrick for two whole days. Even the thought made her feel exhausted. And weirded out. At least things were hurting a bit less now; the healing factor was at work. Now she just mostly felt sore.
She did not think any of this would be good for the relationship.
Carrick returned from the bar fast.
>>”Why would I want that? Look at the size of her feet? I couldn’t fit in them normally. Much rather gaze at her beauty than be her. No offense though, I don’t typically feel like a princess.”
Amethyst was too tired to argue so she just let him put an apron on her. It looked ridiculous.
>>”It’ll keep ya decent fer the cab ride. Might also keep ya warm. Yer coming with us, can patch up... Whatever Tom did to ya. Maybe ya can swap us back after? Don’t think she can handle me body.”
"Too many limbs" Amethyst muttered, getting to her feet. And so much dirt. That was mostly her opinion for the rest of the adventure, as they made their way back to the Mansion. Hopefully, DocProf would help the woman swap them back. Otherwise, she'd just lie in bed until it all went away.
>>”Bout as weird as bleeding rubies. Alright love?”
"I... no?" Amethyst felt dazed. Wrung out. Hurt like she had not hurt before. Also, her mouth tasted funny. Ew. She sat suddenly feeling cold, and her wings drooped.
>>”Ya did great princess, who knew you could fight?"
"I... did?"
The woman was awake now, the woman who had swapped them. She looked worse for the wear too.
>>”Wasn’t too much fun was it? Gave ya a warning about him.”
"Change back? I wanna change back. Change us back." the princess was done with her boyfriend's body. Her own looked banged up too, with rubies everywhere. But she wanted desperately to be herself again. With no... extra appendages. But the woman did not do what she was told.
>>”Can’t or won’t? **** sakes... Stay here.”
>>"Don’t go anywhere and keep an eye on her will ya? And keep yer eyes focused upwards. Normally ya got to pay fer a show.”
"Show?..." Amethyst blinked, still dazed, as she watched Carrick in her body hurry away. She pulled up her knees and curled up. This had to be a nightmare. All of it. She was not sure what all she had done, but she had... she didn't want to remember. "This is not real."
The woman moved. She was not dead. The princes sniffed at her again. FIGHT? She was not sure why, but that person had done something wrong. But she was injured, and not attacking. She looked up at the important person. FIGHT?
Did not seem like they needed to fight.
The beast grumbled as she was pushed back from the two of them. She was not fighting anymore. She was... wrong. The wrong shape. And tired. She wanted to get out, this was not the shape she wanted to be. Wrong shape. She started pulling at her skin again, and everything turned very painful. The world shifted, and so did the body, although not into the form she wanted to be in. When the pain cleared up, Amethyst was still looking at the world though her boyfriend's eyes.
She looked down at herself. Himself. Bloodied and very much naked.
"That's... weird." she muttered, both exhausted and worn, and still a bit curious as she discovered even more parts of anatomy she had not previously experienced.
>> ”Whose a good girlfriend? You are! Yes ya are!”
The beast purred at the touch.
MATE
>>”Oh **** that’s right, bondie. You stay close to me, eh? Come ‘on. It be great if ya could shift back fer me. This form is great but I's so loud, yer other form might deal with the sounds better.”
The beast walked along.
PROTECT
She had successfully fought the enemy and chased it away. Protected the important person. The important person was mate, but also, in an important body, in a way the beast could not quite place. The scent of blood was distracting, though. They found the other person - FRIEND? - on the ground. The beast sniffed at her.
>>”Oi, wake up.”
The beast sniffed, and poked at the body. Was it dead?
The beast sniffed at the smaller form on the other body and the important person. There was a faint scent of blood, although not as much, and a lot of red shiny things scattered on the ground. Injured?
PROTECT
>> ”Yer the best. Yer the alpha.”
The beast sniffed at her, nudging her hand.
MATE?
She lifted her head, looking back over her shoulder. The prey had fled. Good. It was defeated. But there was someone else, wasn't there? Another scent of blood. The beast sniffed again, looking around. Where was the other person?
The prey fought back. There was pain whenever the attack landed, but the beast healed and healed again, until she was right on top of him. Amethyst roared again, the sound reverberating through the body that was not her body, and all the way own the alley. The man was backed into a wall now. Nowhere to run.
FIGHT
Something clattered to the ground. The man was distracted, sending an invisible attack in the direction of the important person. For a moment, his head turned, his attention strayed.
The beast's jaws clamped down on his shoulder.
HURT
The beast shook her head, shaking the man like he was a rag doll, then tossed him across the alley, against the opposite wall. Turning back, she sniffed the air, looking for the smaller figure that had tumbled in the alley. She hurried to her, now that the threat was dealt with.
She could smell fear. She could smell the physical part of it, the wetness and the stink, but even beyond that, there was a scent. Fear. Her opponent was afraid. Amethyst was only vaguely aware of what was happening; after the blinding pain rage had taken over.
FIGHT
The opponent didn't flee. It wasn't prey. It was an enemy. It threw invisible things at her that hurt, but wounds almost immediately closed again. The flashes of pain were enough to anger her even more. This person was hurting her, and more importantly, it was trying to hurt... the important one.
FIGHT
The beast lunged forward, led by instinct, leaning into the painful attacks. Claws slashed at the opponent, and her jaws were looking for a soft place to bite.
Instinct was taking over. The brother was still fighting, doing whatever he did with his hands to hurt people. He had already hurt Carrick, throwing him in her body, and the princess did not take kindly to damage to her body. Or her boyfriend. But anger turned into rage when another attack was imminent.
PROTECT
>>"Dodge!"
She did. Or rather, the beast inside her did, throwing the bigger, awkward body to the side. Invisible blades sliced through the air, and one clipped a wing that was already hurting. Amethyst roared again.
FIGHT
Pain. Gods, it hurt. Everything hurt. There was blinding, red rage and searing pain, and Amethyst felt confined in the body she was in, trapped in something to small, trying to claw her way out. She wanted it to be over. She wanted all of it to be over. So, she turned her rage at the person who made it all happen in the first place.
If Carrick had not seen the transformation from the outside before, he sure as hell was seeing it now.
The roar was satisfying, in a way. Also, apparently, very effective in stopping the assailant in his tracks. She saw her own body cover her ears too, wincing in pain.
>>”**** that’s loud! Is that what I sound like?”
Amethyst, despite her confusion, gave him a level glare. At least now he knew why her ears were ringing for hours after their first time together. Not that they had time to discuss that: she watched her own body run at the brother, and kick him firmly in the testicles. Ow. Effective attack.
>>”Perfect timing love! Ya feeling angry? I could kiss ya if it wasn’t fer Tom still being here.”
Amethyst wondered what it would be like to kiss herself, but the thought was interrupted by another push, throwing Carrick away from her. She watched her body land in an awkward way, rubies clattering onto the pavement. Crap.
PROTECT
>>”Owwwww! Beat his @$$! I like this dress.”
She liked that dress too. Amethyst turned back to the brother and roared again, for good measure. This time, with more confidence. She could feel her nails sharpening, and a shiver run down her body, as she ran a few steps towards him.
Amethyst watched her body fumble with the phone. Who were they going to call, anyway? The X-men? The school? The police? The brother swung the woman out of the way like she was nothing, and he was throwing and slicing things with his mind.
FLIGHT
>>”Why would ya want to beast out now? I want ya to run! Ya ain’t ready fer beast form! We got one monster ta deal with!... Duck!”
He pushed her out of the way of a large garbage bin, and they both fell. Amethyst landed on her back, and pains hot up one of the wings. She did not have the reflexes to fold them or protect them in a fall. It hurt. Her own body was on top of her, looking distressed.
>>”**** it! Get mad! Ya like me right? Tommy is gonna try ta kill me. Take me from you! I’m yers right? Fight! Fight while I call me moms!”
MATE?
>>”Hey mom, it’s me. Well kinda me! Carrick! Long story, was at a bar performing and--- **** Duck!”
Amethyst managed to get back on her feet, wing still hurting, but another can was already flying at her. She stumbled out of the way and landed on hands and knees again.
FLIGHT
>>”**** it story doesn’t matter now! Remember how I said me family is a bunch of nut jobs? Well me brother found me. He’s on the Interpol list thing. Could pick him up if ya answer yer phone! Fer **** sakes!”
Something - the phone? - flew at the attacker, hitting him in the head. He turned, glaring at the princess. He was here to kill his brother. But was he trying to kill the body, or...?
PROTECT
Amethyst wanted to run. She wanted to be as far from here as possible. But she did not want to leave Carrick behind. Or her body. Carrick was important. She did not want someone to hurt him. And no one was picking up the phone. The brother's attention was on Carrick now.
PROTECT
Amethyst roared. It felt weird. It felt powerful. She was angry. She was also very, very loud.
