The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Lock up the Clinic? Just like that? Susan arched an eyebrow. It was not an ordinary place, that much she suspected, but still. She shrugged instead of answering, he could do whatever he found appropriate. "Yes, something to drink would be good." she added as an afterthought. Manipulating others' nervous system? Susan'd mind jumped back to science classes and the corner in her mind where she kept her knowledge of anatomy, biology and similar things that became much more interesting since she found out about her mutation. Nervous system. That included... "My ability is synestesia" she answered "I can combine my senses with one another, transform one kind of sensory input into another type of information." pause "... I can smell colors, see sounds, and so on." Just because someone work at a clinic it doesn't mean they can follow complicated explanations. Duh. "Also, I have the ability to sense the X-gene with all the combinations."

I don't like cats, Susan noted in a determined mental tone, and the blush is a natural biological response to... Mental um. ... I don't like biology either. Retreating to the audible conversation for safety, the witch smiled at Slate. It was much easier to smile at him when he was not inside her head. "I am the wicked stepsister" she answered, with a hint of pride in her voice, then considered her own answer for a while. Looking at it from the other point of view, it was not an easy question at all. "I am probably an orphan too, although it hasn't been confirmed yet. I was hoping I was a witch, but I turned out to be a mutant instead. I don't mind. Annnd I am the girl who is having dinner with a person who claims to be a villainous drug lord, and thinks it is most intirguing." she concluded with the truth. There. "I was not asking for anything specific, actually" she added after some musing "Since I don't know much about you, you can choose to share anything you want, I guess." I have no idea how these situations are supposed to work. Should have asked Noel...

"Nice to meet you , Susan. I don't get many people seeking me out. Not unless they want to kill me." The witch tilted her head; she felt a warm, humming sensation in her hand and arm, which only proved his powers were touch-based. "You work in a hospital." she pointed out. If people wanted him dead... well, it was a weird place to be. As the door was opened for her, Susan walked in, nodding a thank you to Garrett, and looking around curiously. Her senses swam with the smells and colors. In places like this, all of those felt stronger. Susan's eyes turned black for a brief moment before she realized it was not a good thing to do in public. "I am not entirely sure how similar we are" she told him "But out of the people the Doctor could think of, you possess the abilities closest to mine, at least in theory. And since I just discovered my mutation four months ago, your control is probably much better than mine too."

Susan tilted her head, looking at the young man called Garrett Wills. She didn't need to shift her vision to sense the mutant gene from this close; he had the same distinct tinge to his voice she had learned to recognize. He was a mutant. More importantly, he was the mutant she had been looking for. The information was accurate. What a surprise. Susan extended a hand. "Susan Hyde. Nice to meet you. I am a student at Xavier's Sister School and I have been sent here because, according to them, our abilities are similar and you might be able to help me with learning to control mine." That, right there, was a nicely constructed and eloquently delivered introduction. Nice, clear and simple. Susan had a great dealof work invested in it. When it comes to social skills, one can never practice enough.

Susan got off the bus and walked towards the building of the Iris Clinic. She had never been there before, but she got neat, clear and specific directions back in the Mansion. Following the instructions was really not a big deal, not even in New York City. Besides, clinics tended to have a dictinct quality about them. Smell, color, sound - she could spot one from far away just as well as restaurants. It was the Doctor who referred her to the clinic. Not like there was anything wrong with her health; she was just looking for some advice on gaining better control over her powers, and since the institution once again failed to provide her with usable information, Doc sent her to a certain mutant who possessed abilities similar to hers. After hearing more about what this person was capable of, the young witch decided to give it a try. So, here she was. There was a young man sitting on the front steps of the Clinic. Susan walked up to him, because just walking past him didn't seem socially acceptable. She was wearing her usual school uniform (she always did when she was on official business, even though she had left that school a while ago), and her hair was pulled into pigtails since it was still too short for anything more fancy. "Good morning" she said to the young man "I am looking for a person called Garrett Wills."

“I am a villainous drug lord. Simply one faucet of my schemes for global dominion, of course. Tell me, Ms. Witch—what country would you like?”
"Great Britain, of course" the witch answered without missing a beat, still looking at him curiously. Drug lord, huh. He was either being playful, or he was being serious, and she didn't know enough of human games to call the bluff, if it was a bluff at all. It didn't taste like bluffing. Susan was inclined to believe him. Even though the image of the teenage guy in front of her as a drug lord was something she would need some time to get used to. Susan grew up in a strict Catholic environment. She didn't mind drug lords at all.
"Point of clarification: I didn't ask what you are. I asked who you are." she smirked at him "Since we agreed to practice social skills together, I thought it would be appropriate to ask." she added, her cheeks coloring pink with suspicion that she might have said something wrong. "... or you could tell me about that weird twin of yours."

"I believe our mutations are the mostt beautiful things about us, I enjoy meeting new mutants and finding out what they can do. Every mutant i have seen can do somthing different" That sounded true. Susan had to agree. She was not sure about the 'most beautiful' part, she was usually sceptical about the concept of beauty in general, but unique, that was for sure. She found the variety of mutations fascinating, and apparently the girl did too. "COmbine your senses? i am afraid i do not grasp what it is you do, can you make them stronger?" Did she? "Yes." Susan answered after giving it some thought "Basically, I can see sounds, smell colors, and so on, in all possible combinations." she explained. She watched the aura disappear "I can also sense other mutants. They have a distinct... quality about them."

The waiter was being extremely helpful. He was also creeping Susan out, the way he beamed at them. She felt a sudden urge to flash the evil eye at him, but she remembered just in time that this was supposed to be a practice session in social skills, and socially developed people don't scare each other to death. Or at least, she didn't think so. She wasn't sure what rules applied to dates. Thank God this was not a date. "I will have the vegetarian ten-don" she nodded, following Slate's bluffing experience. The food sounded exactly as it smelled. Not bad for a start. When the waiter finally left them alone, Susan grinned, and rested her chin in her palms. Time for small talk. "So. Who are you?"

"Tell your psychic boyfriend hello for me. Unless, of course, you think that inappropriate." The witch arched an eyebrow. "He is not my boyfriend." she clarified "I... am not even sure if he is a friend." Definitions, definitions. "And I don't think it would be inappropriate, it would just be pointless. He doesn't know you." That was said with a smile. Noel was decidedly weird. Susan knew she was weird too. Still, talking to Lady Amnesia was always... entertaining. She liked her. Susan gathered her things, and stood. "... but if you are interested, I can tell you how the meeting went afterwards. I believe you would find it an interesting social experiment." she grinned "See you around, Noel."

"Thank you for this information. I will be sure to check it out." Susan tilted her head. She didn't ask Noel to check anything out. She was still not sure what her job was as a government employee, and the young witch didn't feel comfortable sharing information with someone who was taking notes. "Anyone else try to burn you alive recently?" Blink. "No." Susan answered promptly "That would be absurd." Not like absurd things didn't happen. But being burned at the stake twice in such a short period of time, in the 21st century, was a rare phenomenon, bordering on Hollywood. "I appreciate your help." the witch said cautiously, and smiled a bit, at least the smile was real "I really do."

"Well." Susan frowned, trying to compose an answer that was logical enough, and still didn't sound as crazy as reality was "The two mutants created illusions together. The female was responsible for the sounds, and the male for the visual effects. But more than that, somehow, they could make their illusions real. If you got hurt, you got hurt for real. That, by the way, explains the deaths that occurred earlier and the police didn't give a crap about." A sip of the hot chocolate. "The teacher, she was merely trying to get us out of there alive. I am sorry to say taking hostages was not her idea either. Sorry because that was the first useful thing anyone came up with that night..." I didn't think about it either.

"Did you take care of them? You and the people with you?" Susan shrugged. "It depends on what you mean by 'take care of'. There were a group of sutents there, and one teacher... one of them knocked the female out, and held her hostage. I don't know what their relationship was to each other... but he was willing to let us go in exchange for her, um, life. The teacher froze him up too, with ice. Other than that..." the witch shrugged again "We were just happy to get out of there alive. Those illusions were real."

Susan had never been to a fancy restaurant. She didn't even understand why social interaction required fancy restaurants. Or anything fancy, for that matter. But her natural curiosity took the better of her this time, and she followed Slate without complaining, trying to keep her senses in check among all the colors, noises, and smells. The menu looked suspicious, to say the least. The witch scanned the pages, reading one name after another, glancing at Slate to see if he had more confidence. Apparently, he didn't. “Is raw tuna safe to consume?” "I doubt it." Susan murmured, the corner of her lips curling up "But we have something else we can work with." Taking a deep breath, Susan focused on her senses. She could tell colorful eyes would scare the waiter away for sure - and most of the guests too. She was not sure how mutant friendly fancy restaurants tended to be. So she switched less obvious senses instead. It only took a few seconds, and Susan started to feel tastes with every breath. From the tables nearby, and from beyond; she pretended to be reading the menu, while she sorted through all the pleasant, less pleasant, and simply weird flavors she found on the plates close by. After a few minutes of silence, Susan looked up with a grin. "Whatever they are eating, it's good." she said, with a small nod towards a nearby table.

“You should not let him do that, in the future. He is in the habit of never fully moving out. I suggest spraying his face with a water bottle, should he return.” Susan made a mental note to try that, in case fake Slate returned. She doubted he would. Now that pieces of the three-day puzzle was falling into place, the witch had a suspicion the twin didn't like her all that much. And Slate didn't even know half of it. “Yes. Shall we go? I have made a reservation at a Japanese restaurant for seven o’clock.” Susan nodded, marching out the door. Japanese. She'd never tried Japanese. But she was glad Slate took care of the whole choosing-a-place-for-social-interaction thing. She had no useful knowledge of restaurants whatsoever. "Well, this expains how you knew about the Mansion." she muttered, half to herself, as they left the building, princesses, toads, and the rest of the day's mess behind.

“Do I? I had thought he was living at the Sanctuary, recently. Unless he has moved again. Or I have gained another.” Susan's eyes narrowed further. "He was living in my room, recently." she hissed, with her expression making it obvious it was not a pleasant experience "For three days straight." She was not sure if that last part of his statement was intended as a joke or not. Susan was not good at humor things, but logic said it wasn't serious: one can't have new twins showing up eighteen years after his birth. “I was informed that women like flowers.” Susan looked at the daisies. Then back at Slate. Then at the daisies again. He was holding them like his last line of defense against an angry witch. Is he scared of me?... Susan took the flowers, and held them hesitantly, not sure what she was supposed to do next. She still had questions. But her anger was slowly fading away. "So. Anything else I should know?"
