The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He'd sat back down at his desk, watching her leave; that...had definitely not ended as expected, but for once it hadn't bitten him in the ass, so he guessed that was a good thing. Then again...the way he saw it, all situations had the potential to backfire. Maybe he wasn't ready for a date, but at the same time...he always had been the risk taker in the family; the first one to rush something head on. So why change now?
The rest of his shift passed uneventfully; he'd made no more appointments that day, so he'd decided to just organize his area, sweep everything, and then doodle. It was then that he'd found her little tip. Damn, that was something he'd never remotely expected. Pocketing it, he felt something weird tugging at the corners of his mouth. Was that a...smile? Not a cynical smirk or a crooked grin. A smile. It was gone as quickly as it'd appeared, but it was there.
The shop had closed, and Dante made sure to grab his things on the way out. He made his way home, pulling his phone and her card out of his jacket pocket, and dialing the number.
"Hey. I just got off. Need to feed and walk my dog right quick, but I'd be good for anything after that," he said, realizing that probably meant he'd have to dig some more clothes out of a box somewhere. His apartment still looked like a freaking warehouse.
He nodded, looking more or less at the wall. "Thanks; I never was into drawing realism. It's...kind of boring to me," he said, maybe more bluntly than intended. But for Dante, drawing had been a means of escaping reality, of losing himself and hiding from a world that really couldn't give a shit. Not that he was about to share that.
"Thanks," he said simply, sort of thinking things over. This wasn't something he did often, but he had to admit it was quite nice. Almost enjoyable, even.
Though it wasn't long before a sort of silence set in, and he never was quite sure what that meant. After a few moments, he stood to his feet. "I guess I still owe you a walk," he said as he looked down at her. Though part of him was sort of mildly annoyed that there seemed to be a running trend with girls being a couple inches taller than him. Maybe his height was a trade off for the cool smoke thing. Who knew.

"I hate unpacking, so I tend to only unpack what I need, and for the rest I just sort of live out of the boxes until I no longer have anything in boxes," he said matter-of-factly. It really wasn't that big a deal to him; he didn't often have company over, and when he did, well...it was his apartment. His.
The apartment itself was rather small, meant to be lived in by just one person. It wasn't falling apart or anything, but it wasn't necessarily what one would define as nice either. He watched as she flipped through his book. Most of it was fantasy, surreal-inspired. Dragons, a flaming stallion, the alphabet stylized with bones...that sort of thing.
They were? "I....thanks," he murmured, smiling a bit. He wasn't quite used to being complimented on his work yet, but he had to admit it wasn't bad. It did tend to make him feel warm in fuzzy inside, which was weird.

"Eleven a.m. Tuesday...." he murmured back, writing it down in his appointment book. But at her next words, his head shot up, quirking a brow as he looked at her. Was she...well, that was surprising.
"After work, I really didn't have plans," he said with a shrug as the card....floated out of her pocket and onto his appointment book. That was pretty damn impressive. "Though I think that may have changed," he murmured with a light smirk.
He chuckled at the exchange between the other artists, shaking his head slightly. That, he was going to have to get used to. The friendly banter, oh and the fact that he had a date. "So I'll....call you when I get off," he said, his cynical demeanor having somewhat melted.

Maybe he was humble, or maybe he was just so used to being abused back when he was apprenticing and working in California, that he really didn't think very highly of his work. Likely, it was the latter, but that was just one of the many secrets that Duke held. "Maybe we can trade work sometime," he said with a small shrug.
"Well, I've been here over a month, there are just a few odds and ends I have left to unpack; so it's maybe....three boxes. All of which in the middle of the living room," he replied nonchalantly. "Yeah, I haven't wandered too far yet, but I've found a decent cafe and a sub joint, Chinese...but aside from that I haven't really ventured," he said with a shrug as they made their way to his apartment, which really wasn't that far.
Going inside, he went up a flight of stairs and unlocked the door, unhooking Duke's leash, after which the large dog lumbered inside and lay in the corner. Then, Dante rummaged through a few things, finally coming out with a sketchbook; it wasn't for tattoos or anything, just random doodles, but it was better than nothing. Sitting on the obviously used couch, he held it out to her.

He quirked a brow at her words, though sure it wasn't exactly his place to pry. "Well, that's pretty odd. From the looks of it, a damn shame, too," he murmured, really unsure of what else to say. He didn't really know how to react; how he should handle it, so he just nodded, sympathetically.
She handed him two hundred, and he made his way back to the drawer to make change, and with his back turned, he didn't see what the woman was up to. He'd counted out her change, and by the time he'd turned back to her, she'd already straightened up and Dante was none the wiser. Once back to his desk, he pulled out his appointment book.
"Let's see....how's Tuesday? I'll let you pick the time," he said looking over at her again. If things kept up like this, he'd be settled into the city in no time.

His words were somewhat rooted in pain; things he'd been through, not even from being a mutant. His mutation had only surfaced over the past year and a half or so, so he didn't have much experience there. He'd just learned that the majority of people sucked in general.
"Well, I've been told I'm pretty good," he said with a slight shrug, though he himself sometimes questioned his ability. "Well, I may have a loose sketchbook at home; I keep most of my works at the shop to use as samples. Maybe when I drop off Duke we can see if I can dig something up. Most of my **** is still in boxes though," he said with a soft shrug.
"Eh, I'm not really picky. Maybe just take a walk, and see where it takes us." He really wasn't good at this sort of thing; he never had been.

He chuckled lightly, smiling, though a slight tint of pink rose to his cheeks. "Heh, well you caught me, one sixty's perfect," he answered with another slight chuckle. She'd already agreed to come back, and last time he checked, cutting a discount with someone wouldn't make them not want to return, so he felt he was in the clear.
"Thanks," he said, his growing more uncharacteristically sheepish. Not many people that weren't family had ever actually praised his work. And Kitra seemed to know her stuff, so it actually carried a little weight with him. Especially considering the one who'd done her previous work was leaps and bounds ahead of the young mutant. His eyes met hers as she spoke, and he noted a change of tone, though he couldn't quite pinpoint what it was, though it was almost like she was telling him a secret.
Wait. What. The. Hell? She really...all of....how?
He pondered in silence as she put her coat back on, and he bit his lip, wondering how the hell to address that. "Really....? You're telling me you did that realistic piece....on your back....yourself?" It was definitely possible, considering he was a guy who daily kept a steady supply of smoke in his lungs. But at the same time he was having trouble wrapping his head around that. It didn't take him long to figure out she was a fellow mutant, obviously.
But at the same time....it still brought upon some questions. "That really is a hell of a gift you have, then," he said, his voice sincere. "Whatever that gift may be."

"Well, you've done more research on it than I have," he said with a dry sort of humor to his voice.
"Biologist, huh? I'm just an aspiring tattoo artist," he replied, shrugging lightly. "Maybe not, but if you're interested, you're interested. Follow your passion and **** everybody else," he said, doing his best to encourage her, but he wasn't exactly good at that;; he hadn't needed to be in quite some time, so he'd lost what little skill in it that he'd had.
The smile told him that his not-so-good compliment worked at least a little. "No, you're not," he answered with something akin to a smile. "Well, I could always drop Duke off at home and we can talk some more, or something," he said with a shrug. He normally wasn't a 'go out' kind of person, but she seemed decent. So....why not?

The date crack got him a rather healthy giggle. And then a cough after she responded. They were still talking about tattoo appointments, right? Eh, better to play it safe and just assume yes. Especially if she was to become a regular. When she spoke again, she had a more professional air about her. Reorganizing his things, he made his way back to the desk, doing a little bit of math. He hated this part, but it was how he got paid, so it was important. Every teacher he'd ever had was right: there was no escaping math.
He blinked as she put her boot back on and winced, then saw why. "From what I understand, one really can't. Especially not these days," he said, standing back to his feet. "You've pretty much got free reign over when you wanna come in; I'm new in town so you're one of my first couple clients since my plane touched down. And as far as payment, I'm thinking one twenty-five," he said thoughtfully, noting that she was a good few inches taller than him even without the boots. Normally, he charged closer to one fifty to one seventy-five for something like that, but she seemed nice enough, and was real easy to work on.
Besides, she was coming back, and like any business, return customers were important.

"Well, mutants are kind of in our own little category. In a way, we've transcended current science. The smoke I exhale does what I want merely because I want it to," he said plainly. "Scientists have spent ages trying to discover how animals communicate, and how we can interact with them, and then when your powers activated, you gave basically told all that to go to hell." He gave a dry chuckle before another plain statement. "Science...doesn't like us." But then again, he didn't really like it either, so they were even on that count, he guessed.
He nodded as she spoke. "Yeah. We've brought each other through some pretty tough stuff. Guess that's why most tend to keep their distance." His voice was somewhat dark, though it was hard to tell if that was regret or pride in his voice, given the tone.
"That's why I like this park; I live maybe three blocks from here, so it's not far to walk. Especially not with a dog and a guitar," he said with a shrug. "Unless there's somewhere you wanted to go; I don't say this often, but you aren't terrible company," he said, lightly joking but his dry humor was starting to show.

He gave a light snort at not getting what she called a 'free show.' That was just how it worked sometimes. "Oh well, I'll manage to get over it," he teased lightly as she took off her shirt, revealing the tank top that showed off her back. Not to mention--Damn!
He let out a low whistle as he admired the work on her back. The wings looked realistic; he would have said almost, but they did live in a time where quite a few people actually had wings. "This is really great work," he said, taking it all in to the last detail.
He noticed the hesitation in her voice as she mentioned the other tattoos, and showed him the dagger on her wrist. "I think I'll be able to touch you up," he said after a few moments. "You have some really nice work here. Very cool," he said with a smile.
"Just let me know when you'd like to set a date, and I'd be happy to have you back."

He snorted a little, smirking just a bit. "Yeah, I admit it's kinda neat being able to give physics the finger, but my control gets looser as the smoke gets farther away. Then past a certain point, it does exactly what you'd expect it to."
"Duke thinks you like me."
Oh. That was it? Heh; he guessed the dog really was man's best friend. So he guessed his little temper problem or his pink boxer briefs were still safe secrets, though the former would likely be out sooner or later.
"Well, he's not wrong," he said with a straight face as he looked at her. And it was the truth, she seemed okay so far. He looked around, still somewhat getting the hang of the city, but the area was looking familiar. "My apartment's not too far from here. I'm glad you and Duke took to each other so well. If he trusts you, then you must be alright."

She was one of the best he'd had as far as people went; she was perfectly still the entire time, almost as if she didn't even feel it. But she'd had a few more tattoos, so maybe she was used to it. Regardless, it was nice; she never once even flinched, almost as if he was drawing on her with a marker instead of giving her a tattoo.
The time went by quietly, not that he minded. Some people seemed like they'd explode if they were quiet for more than two minutes, but this was rather refreshing, and it made him more able to work, and made the work go even quicker. The tattoo turned out rather well, if he did say so himself, and just as he'd thought, it complimented the part of the tattoo it shared real estate with just as well as he'd hoped.
Then, he took to cleaning it up, and the silence was broken by her compliment, which made him smile. "Thanks," he said simply with a smile. "Yeah, I'd be happy to take a look." Not only because it would be extra work to do down the line, but he also liked admiring other artists' work.

Simple, yet rounded. "Good choice; I think it'll suit you nicely," he complimented, watching as she prepared.
The grimace didn't go unnoticed, and he understood her concern. Leaning down, he took a look. "Oh I think that's an easy work around. Especially if I put it here," he motioned to the area, "And then I can have the aura so they sort of compliment each other. It'll work out fine." He gave a sure nod.
"Oh, I'm not above touch-ups. In fact I'd be glad to help out," he said with a smile. Though when she mentioned she didn't think she could do it herself anymore, his smile sort of faded. "Well, the only way to really know is to try, but I see where you're coming from," he said gently, encouraging her.
In the shop, it was almost like he was a different person, but then again as mentioned, customers were a different breed. At least while he was on the clock.
"Ready?" he asked, getting his ink and everything ready as he prepared to get started, getting everything prepped and ready to go.
The young mutant's hand was quite steady, and not needlessly hurting as he hurt. He could say what he wanted about his former in-laws, but they'd taught him well.
