The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Saph smirked as Moose threw a fit, flipped a desk.
"Y'see, It really was a good idea coming here; You prolly woulda ended up flippin that in the real classroom, too, and then I'd make you clean it up! Computer, reset simulation." He desk shifted back to it's original upright position, all of the papers in it neatly placed inside.
"Thanks, guys. I really appreciate the input. Now, study and stuff. I'm just getting to the funnies."
It looked like Jude was actually studying... Holy cow! Here he thought this day wasn't going to be productive at all, bu there he was, scribbling away! The masochist nodded to himself, and got to reading his paper.
Did he see the paper airplane antics? Nope. Did he feel them? Yup.
They were up to something... What was it, he wondered. As soon as the paper ball was thrown back, Saph chimed in.
"Whacha got there, Sanches? Something you wanna share with class? Bring it on up. No funny business."
He was still looking at his paper. Did he have an extra set of eyes? DUN DUN DUN!

The second kid he called raised his hand, Saph blinked. There were three of them. He ignored it.
"It's Chen-desh, sir. Uhm. It's Hungarian?
"Right. Checkov, cool."
"And instead of a study hall, could you maybe take us to the Danger Room? So we could learn useful cra- uhh stuff and work out our teen angst or whatever?"
Saph stared at him for a second. and then Elke chimed in.
"I agree, Sir! Training in the Danger room would totally help me not get beat up after class by bullies. I mean, it will help kids like him not get beat up by me after class."
He couldn't keep a straight face. By god, he tried, and he managed to for a second. "Hnch.... Tche... KH... GAWHAWHAWHAWHAW! You really think I'm gonna let a bunch of kids who managed to land themselves in detention dick around in the danger room?"
"You are one of the best fighters on campus, right?" He stared for another second.
"Got a little brown on your nose, kid. You know what... Why not? I didn't have anything interesting planned anyways, I was just gonna have you clean the bathroom with a toothbrush or somethin."
He got up from his chair, grabbed his mug, tucked his paper under his arm, and stood, commanding them to get into single file, and walk in front of him, so he could see. The third kid raised his hand. Saph rolled his eyes, and nodded to him.
"I actually volunteered for study hall, can I go home?" Saph eyed him for a moment, and shrugged. "Yeah. sure."
He skipped off merrily.
Saph prodded them forward, watching closely as they progressed, eventually arriving at their destination.
The doors opened on a blank slate room, and Saph pushed them in.
And with that, the danger room morphed into an exact copy of the room they'd been in moments ago. Saph waggled his eyebrows once, and walked over to the desk, sitting, sipping his coffee, opening up his paper, and plopping his feet onto the desk with a smug grin on his face. "Have a seat!"
Saph nodded, and let the current conversation rest... He would have to ask her more about her grandfather when she was more comfortable around him...
"So... I brought some food... It's greek... Pretty darn good. An excellent cook made it for you. You think you could go for a bite to eat right about now?"
He decided not to mention any specifics about his fiance making the food; Moose didn't seem to respond well to sweet people, and Andrea was very, very sweet. Heck, he feared introducing them down the road; Moose would chew the poor Greek up and spit her out.
He reached out of the fort, and grabbed a small package, pulling it in, and opening the aromatic to-go box in it.
"Aww, man... that's almost making me hungry, too... But yeah... If you want it, it's here... Better than the tasteless stuff they've been trying to feed you all week, I can tell you that."
Oh, man, already he was about to make a promise to a kid... how soul crushing would it be if he didn't follow through? One helluva responsibility... Still, it wasn't like this guy was actually gonna come after her, right?
"Yeah, I promise."
"...You do talk a lot for a grownup. Usually Susan just tells me to sit quietly and wait while she gets all of her stupid paperwork done. My mom says she's a @#$%&, and it's all because she's a barren old twat who will never land a man."
If he had a drink he would have spit it out right about then. Instead, he chuckled almost instinctively before stifling the laugh. He'd met Susan. Her mom wasn't far off... Still.
"Ahem... Eh... Colorful vocabulary, your mom."
"No... I don't believe in being lost. My granddad always told me that you're never really lost, you're just discovering somewhere new."
"Huh... Sounds like a smart guy, your grandpa. I never met mine... He around?"
It definitely wasn't punishment for cracking up when he saw the drawing of the teacher Moose had done. Not at all. It was more a mix of that and something about the person who was supposed to do it "leaving the oven on." Sure.
Either way, no one else was available, and he was an X-man, so he was clearly qualified , right?
Why did people assume being an X-Man qualified you for anything other than punching faces and walking people across the street?
Still, he suppose Moose was his responsibility, and the other people in detention couldn't possibly be as bad as her, right?
"Ahem... So... You know who I am, and you know what's up. You guys are here to study and stuff, so don't give me any trouble and I won't give you any."
Did it help that there were horrendous rumors floating about the mansion on the subject of 'The masochist'? Someone had worked it out that he made people disappear, he was a raging alcoholic, and he'd sent an X-trainee or two to the infirmary... That last one was true.
"Now... Role call... Nathan... Nathan Anderson..." He went down the list, it was a short one. "Jude... Jude... eh... K.... Kusendowsky, what ever. Elke Crawford."
He made it to the end of the list, having only butchered half the names on it, and then gave them all the 'i'm watching you' signal before sitting at the teacher's desk and opening up the paper. He'd brought coffee, so at least he was good there.
It was odd... The compliment deflated her, almost... As tough as she way trying to be, he couldn't imagine it was an easy gig. As quick as she was to go off, she was easily just waiting for the right motivation to open up.
And open up she did. Just a little. "..When he finds me I'm gonna be in trouble. I failed my mission."
"... The man who held you captive... It's likely he died trying to escape... If he does come here, though... I'll be right there... I wouldn't let him hurt you. And trust me, I may not look it to you, but I'm pretty tough."
He grinned to her a little, and then went back to staring at the mattress in front of him. "What they did to you there... It was wrong... Ain't a damn thing supposed to make someone do something but themselves... Choice is what makes us... you know... us... That's why I ain't gonna make you do anything against your will... I gotta tell you, though... This path you're on... It's a scary path that don't lead nowhere good. I seen it a thousand times... Hell, I been on it... Man, I'm talkin a lot." He sighed.

"Why? Would that put a black mark on your perfect X-man record or sumthin'?"
"Heh... If you wanna put it that way... As an X-man my job is to do the right thing. I know it sounds cheesy, but it is what it is... And you... You've been through a lot. I been through a lot too... That's why I volunteered to be the one to help you..."
He tried to explain it in a way that wouldn't make her freak out again; she was so goddam unstable it wasn't funny. It was like walking in a minefield that was more mine that field.
"That's what everyone says. 'I just want to help'. I don't want any help. You can't fix what ain't broken, and i'm not broken."
"Yeah? Everyone seems to think you are... They all wrong? You ain't done nuthin to prove em wrong yet, from what I see..."
He rested his hands on his knees again, staring forward...
She was having bad dreams; He knew because he'd had his fair share.
When she woke, it was with a start; he saw her attack coming from a mile away, and let it hit him; Wasn't like she was going to hurt him or anything. He placed his hands up as if she had a gun. "Hey, hey, hey... I come in peace."
"What the hell do you want?"
He blinked a few times, and then scratched the back of his head. "Straight to the point, huh? You aren't eating, Moose... You gotta. I can't have you starving, you know?"
To be honest, he wasn't an expert when it came to talking to children; he didn't even know where to start when it came to getting the wayward child to eat. Maybe he could force food down her throat?
Awkward silence was awkward; rested his head back against the wall. "You're tough, kid... You proved that... But how far do you really want to take this? I really do just want to help."
He felt the darts coming before he heard Shin's voice chime in.
"Saph! Move. Away! From the trap!"
He was on top of it; His shield moved to cover his left side, while darts smacked into his right, not even cutting deep enough to draw blood. TINK TINK TINK! He jumped back quickly, but swore he felt something moving past him as he cleared the trap's range. His imagination again? No, something was there! "Shin!"
Before the thought was even complete, he was diving, and swinging his crowbar at what felt like a foot; the crook of the bar would catch in order to trip what ever it was up.
The invisible man was frustrated; during the dart barage he'd seen an opportunity to toss a knife at the one without the shield, but a blind block knocked it aside, unnoticed. Still, it was looking like his bad luck with these two was all but over.
Unseen had noticed the perfect opportunity to strike; the one with the box cutter's back was open; He would go fore a safe bet; a stab to the neck. The dumb one was in between them, though; no matter, a quick dance around the clumsy man, and he would be home free.
In the process of that, though, something went wrong; something caught his foot, and he pitched forward. He was a professional, though, he recovered mid step, but was forced to strike at the shard thrower's back instead. His objective would then be to quickly retreat.
It was odd... Sleeping like this, she almost seemed like a normal kid.
He'd noticed the redecoration immediately, and the pictures, though he didn't think his nose was that big, or that there ever was so much snot coming out of it. He'd found her in her makeshift fort, and opted to crawl in silently, watching her for a moment. She had to be cold... He gently draped her in a blanket...
She really hadn't eaten all week. Wow... Well, maybe the lunch he'd brought today would sway her... Either way, he really couldn't keep her like this; her determination was unlike any person he'd ever met at her age; she might just starve to death by a mountain of food.
The lights went out. They'd cut the power... Deeper in the building, a backup generator could be heard auto-starting. Dim lights slowly flickered on, and wavered constantly, as if the old generator would give up any second. They needed to hurry deeper into the building.
"Girls."
Despite the almost atmospheric momentum he'd been gathering, the single word gave him pause. The armored man turned to face her, his metallic faceplate glinting in the low light.
"I'm here for de girls. Dey smuggle in and sell them to the highest bidder. I'm not here for the drugs. I'm here for them."
He stared at her with his color contact covered eyes for a while longer, and then his eyes found a spot on the ground. Everything worked its way out in his head... Of course. It had never been a drug shipment... That's why he hadn't seen any cargo being moved, it was walking in and out every day. How couldn't he have seen this? He'd thought this woman an amateur, but he'd been so wrong...
"I boost powers. I can make you stronger."
That seemed to snap him out of it. "Oh course. My senses were enhanced when I touched you... I don't think that would be enough, though... It only seemed to work while we were touching."
He looked down to his gloved hand, and then looked up as he heard a loud bang on the door they'd entered. They were breaking in. He started down the hallway toward the room he'd felt before... If there were girls here, he would find them and free them; maybe they could escape in the chaos. "How did you find out about the women?" He asked in a hurried tone as he turned around a corner, and continued down the hall... Almost there.
Moments later, he stopped at a room on the corner of a t-crossing. It had two doors... "That's the room... They will have guards keeping an eye on their investments... You good with that gun? I can draw there attention to one door, and you can take them out."
Without confirming the plan, he walked on over, and kicked one of the doors open.
She was hooked, and she fell, but she managed to turn it into a roll... Damn, that was actually pretty impressive. She counter attacked quickly, reaching out to shove him to keep him moving; his momentum limited his ability to react to the forced spin.
He felt the blow coming for his leg, and reacted by blocking the attack with his right hand. That left him open for the secondary jab the his stomach; clever... She was clever. Still, this only gave him a chance to illustrate something very important to her.
He triggered his absorption field as the back of her weapon started to close in on him. It would feel like having the wind taken right of out your sails. Like one second you were moving with all of your might, and the next, it all just... went nowhere. Normally, he would take this time to strike, killing his opponent in one blow, or knocking them silly, at least. He would almost move to do so, but instead, jump back a distance that clearly shouldn't have been possible, considering the low physical effort he put into it.
Saph stared at her as she chuckled, and got up, ranting at him as her clones slinked away.
He remained silent. Still, by the time she finished, he was smiling just a little.
He stood. "Alright, then! you two, come with me. We're gonna go get ice cream, and think about how hardcore she is while we have fun! Moose... I'm gonna give you a week or so to think about this... Food'll still come... Maybe I'll even get someone to fix your bed frame... Not too bright, taking that apart. Well, let's go, guys!"
He walked over to the door, using his sense to be sure she didn't switch herself with one of the clones, and then unlocked it, inviting them out.
They were gonna go get ice cream, and ride on carnival rides for the rest of their lives.
He would see her in a week.
* * *
A week had passed. Saph had learned quite a bit more in that time. For one, the clones were very talkative; he'd been able to find out how many she could make, and how long they lasted, just from asking how long they'd been around, and seeing how long they'd lasted after that.
She'd had food dropped off regularly, and from what Saph'd heard, she hadn't eaten a bite. Wow... that was some serious dedication for a kid... What had those freaky black ops guys done to her? Still, he couldn't wait forever, or she'd starve...
Saph walked into the room, locked the door behind him, and then walked toward the center of the room, looking around as he did.
"That's a lie if i've ever heard one. This place isn't for people like me. Yea. People that live here got money. They got smarts and stuff."
Saph chuckled at her remark, and scratched his stubbled cheek. "Heh heh... Yeah, some of em. Pretty sure Sam could buy every car in the garage... But not everyone. Heck, I was homeless for eight years before I came here... Stole to make a living. Dunno if it gets less smart and stuff than that. That's kinda the idea, though. People like me can some here to make something of themselves. I come a long way since then..."
"My names Moose. You ain't got nothin' here to help me in any way. I just wanna go home."
Saph stared at her for a moment, and sighed. "Kid, I dunno how to tell you this, but your parents asked that you not be returned... Hell, they were deemed unfit, so I couldn't take you there by law if I wanted. Your last foster parent has asked you not be returned as well. So... well, I just finished out the paperwork an hour ago... As of now, this is your place of living."
He wondered how she would react to that; she was a different animal than he had been back in the day, but even so, he remembered fear and apprehension when ever he was sent to a new family. What would they be like? Would they put him to work? Most did, Would they feed him well enough? Most did. Still, just under all of the apprehension, and questions, was a sliver of hope. Would she still have that, after being passed around so much?
"For now, though, I've had to keep you in here... You've been destructive. You've shown no signs that if we let you out of here, you wouldn't just run away, or hurt the students here... I need that from you, because honestly, Moose... We're your last shot before juvenile detention. Do you understand that?"
