The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Talking to Becca about hexes and charms was still extremely surreal. It should not have been, but it was. Gawain did his level best to take it in stride, and rely on his dorky side when it came to discussing magic. He gave his wife a small smile.
"Alright then. We should probably test your defenses first. So the, um... protection charms? Are they against physical contact? Projectiles?... I'm sorry" he shook his head, a little sheepish. "I should have been paying more attention." He had not really been a part of the process of Becca learning these things, and that was mostly on him.
"Whoa." Maya couldn't help but stare at the sight of the library. Sure, the glittering decorations were impressive... but the books even more so. Her inner dork took over the anxieties about the mission. "How does one get a library card?..." she muttered, following her wife and the queen down the stairs. Into an even more ancient part of the library. This whole visit was turning from dorky to... Idaho Jones-y. Maya stared at the things all around them, her gaze finally settling on the dark, smooth surface in front of them. Was that...?
Gawain was wearing his usual X-men training uniform. Becca on the other hand, had a new outfit designed, complete with a cloak, and a new set of sword and shield, with runes. She looked good in it, he had to admit that.
"Yeah, I have a couple of generic scenarios lined up... depends on what you want to work on." He nodded. "Why don't we... start by telling me what all that is supposed to do" he gestured at her weapons "or what... um, spells you want to practice?" Yup, it still sounded weird.
Another time, Mirror would have been more than excited to get to visit the Royal Library of Freakin' Atlantis. But today, she just felt tired. Sure, as the parent of a superpowered toddler and a magical teenager, the tiredness appeared to be a permanent feature... but it was also a different kind of exhaustion.
Maya was still struggling with the mystic issue. After Aoife, she had met other mystics... or mystic-like beings, such as Hercules, and not all of them were evil maniacs. Becca was getting more comfortable with her own new power set too, and so was Kalos. But there was still a lot more to figure out... and now, the lead brought them back to Atlantis. She still remembered the first time here, rescuing Kalos and all. At least this new queen was somewhat sympathetic to them. Her comments to Becca made Maya wince and glance at her wife. Prejudice, in the end was prejudice just the same.
Maya rolled her shoulders, trying to alleviate some of the tension as they all walked into the library. Hopefully, they would learn something useful here.
Gawain jumped as the cup shattered in Hercules' hand, instantly tensing up. Even Angua growled, perking her ears up. The display of glowing sigils looked... impressive. And definitely threatening. But the threat did not seem to be directed at him.
>>”It seems they have no limits to their depravity. Abusing the power given to them and forcing it upon others. Know this Gawain Morris. As I still draw breath those mystics, the ones who should force something as ancient as magic upon others... I will not rest until they are stopped.”
Somehow, Gawain believed him. He did not put it past the mystics to try to infiltrate the Mansion, but Mirror was good at reading people, and he could tell Hercules' rage was genuine. It would have been hard to fake rage like that. The glowing stopped eventually, as he got his powers under control. Angua made a whining sound; Mirror called her over to scratch her ear.
>>”It is meant to be a gift. Not something like this... I am sorry that happened to your wife and daughter Gawain Morris. However, William is not like that. He too is being hunted by them. At least I believe the two groups to be the same. They already failed at a few attempts on his life.”
"They hunt another mystic?" Gawain blinked, surprised. That was... a new development. Granted, mutants fought each other all the time... but this was proof that mystics were not one big bag organized cult either. And a kid, hunted by fanatics... that was definitely the profile for Mansion enrollment. Gawain sighed. "Sounds like William would fit right in here. But. I'm going to need something from you in return." He sat back. "We are equipped to withstand all kinds of human and mutant attacks. You already know the Mansion is a popular target. And when it comes to magic... we are only beginning to understand it. We don't know how to defend against it. Can you help us with that?"
Usually when Gawain planned on spending some grown-up time with his wife, this was not exactly what he pictured. Grown-up time of any kind was hard to come by with a toddler and a mystic teen at hand (not to mention the rest of the Mansion kids). But for once, Mrs. Taylor-Cervantes was watching Iris, and the DR was free, and the stars aligned.
Mostly, Gawain decided he finally had to suck it up, and be a grown-up about being married to a witch.
Once he'd gotten over (most) of the guilt, and the grief over the change in their life, it was time to face the music, and help Becca figure out how her powers worked. That was, at least, familiar territory. That was what the DR was invented for. Sure, not exactly equipped for magic, but they'd had to remedy that based on getting some readings. Gawain hoped that once they got started, his fantasy dork side would eventually emerge, and curiosity will help combat... all the other feelings.
Iris' powers of the day had worn off by the time Becca joined him in the Danger Room. It was just the two of them now.
>>“You’re good with a bow and I don’t mock you for it, so I’d appreciate similar respect for my wea-pun of choice,”
Maya groaned. Liz and puns. That was definitely a weapon.
The news about Becca's sister were... news, apparently. She had tried to keep it under wraps, but the Mansion was a horrible place for gossip.
>>“Who, what? Becca has a sister?! I definitely didn’t hear that part!...That…that’s just…woah. That’s gonna be one heck of an awkward Thanksgiving, huh?”
"Yeah I think we might skip that this year" Maya sighed. "Yes, Becca has a sister. Half. Sister. Who conveniently showed up at the same time as mystics, and turns out to be some head b*** in their cult. She lured Becca and Kalos in... and took their powers. Took the entire f*** X-gene, apparently." Maya cleared her throat. "Sam and I ran into her trying to stir up more sh*t. I put an arrow through her." She glanced up "She's alive. Sam's keeping her secured."
"Puns? Really?" Maya arched an amused eyebrow at Liz. She seemed... at ease, or at least handlig the whole magic-god-cult situation better than she was. Maya sighed, tossing some more decorations into the cart.
"You know, Becca's sister is in the cult." she frowned. "She showed up all nice and friendly, looking for lost family and whatnot. Then she turned around and... attacked her and Kalos." Maya was still beyond furious about that. "I shot her."
"Oh yeah I've met him. He came in to... talk about bringing a kid named William to the school. He's apparently the kid's guardian? Have you met him?" Maya poked at some fake spiderwebs, but decided Liz could probably do better with real spiders.
"Well, that cult kidnapped my wife and child and now Becca and Kalos are not mutants anymore" Maya frowned. It was still a sore point she needed to work through. "I am not done with them yet. You thin Hercules could help out if it comes to that...?" She shook her head. "Nope, still weird. You are dating the actual Hercules. Way to go, Liz."
>>“So about that. I’m not super convinced that he actually is a god, but it’s tricky to really dive into that kind of conversation with him.”
"Don't I know it." Maya smirked. The admissions interview had been a trip and a half. But apparently, Liz did not get much more out of him either.
>>“The only thing I know for sure is that he uses magic, but not like other magicians. Good grief, even that sounds crazy. Magic is real now!”
"Yeah. It's f*** real" Maya sighed. "The kid in me wants to be super excited about it. But... turns out, most magicians are just bigot a**holes in a different costume." She glanced over at Liz, with an apologetic look. "Some excluded. I hope."
"Yeah. Tell me about it" Maya smiled, walking along. Iris' powers had worn off since the morning, so she was not sporting horns and a tail anymore. Too bad, for once, a Halloween store would have been an excellent place to go out like that. But also, as most young parents, she cherished the time she got to spend in actual adult company. Especially Liz's, whom she had missed talking to at length, apart from the drive-by few words they exchanged during their busy daily work.
"It feels like we have a whole lot to talk about" she noted, casually inspecting a string of plastic bats. "Like... the fact that you are dating a literal Greek god?"
Alright, so maybe Maya had been waiting to say that for like, a week.
>>"Fear not Gawain Morris! I’m not offended! I have been called those both in my life time. Elizabeth has the most wonderful thoughts on the subject of what I am. Ha ha! I am a thing. I was mortal once but now. I’m this.”
Alright, then. Gods were a thing. Mirror took statements like that with a grain of salt - how did one differentiate between god, mystic, and powerful mutant?... The Mansion basically had a Poseidon, after all... But Liz seemed to have thoughts about that too. The mythology nerd in Mirror was excited for the prospect.
>>”Hopefully this doesn’t hurt William’s chances getting into school here?
Well...
>>”Elizabeth said it wouldn’t be a problem. I know you don’t really have a curriculum to help mystics the way you do with your other students but magic is better self taught. It’s important to learn from ones mistakes. and anything he can’t figure out on his own I help fill in the blanks.”
Gawain sighed.
"Liz is right. Partially. But... alright, here is the thing. Mystics are a very recent occurrence, and there is a lot we don't know. But, to be fair, our experiences so far have not been very good. The cult that seems to recruit mystics, they took my wife and daughter, and stripped them of their mutant powers. Permanently. They are both mystics now. People taken the same way... they are not given a choice. Mutants always end up being the ones that need to be purified, or fixed, or improved... or destroyed." He frowned.
>>”I am. I am Hercules. Son of Zues. Protector of mortals. Champion of justice. Slayer of tians and strongest amongst the gods.”
Ookay then. Gawain stared some more. To be honest, the guy had said that before (some of that anyway), but he had been... kind of focusing on the 'dating Liz' part.
>>”Shall I show my exploits? Recite my trials? Lift a bus? I’ve grown accustomed to this reaction. Ah, this is the time I battled a Kraken.”
The guy was glowing. And had tattoos of his exploits. Gawain, ever being the mythology nerd, looked at them curiously.
>>”Shall I summon my club as further proof?”
Gawain almost said yes.
"Um, so... I'm sorry, I just assumed you were a mutant or a mystic, and Hercules was... some kind of a stage name. But you are telling me... you're an actual god? That's a thing?" It was, at this point, not exactly outside the realm of possibility. By a long shot.
>>"Two children? An even number! Excellent! I’m told there is a terrible two’s and a terrible teens. Both of which are rewarding.”
"That they are" Gawain smirked, shaking his head. This fellow seemed easily excitable. There was something off about him, but then again who was normal in a place like this?
>>”William, would not like to go to this school however he is no longer challenged by the private one he is in now. All he does is study, I wish for him to be in a safer place surrounded by those who would spark his curiosity. In fact he doesn’t know I am here starting the process. I wanted to start the process before I tell him. Elizabeth said he’d be a good fit in this school.”
Gawain tilted his head. A teen mystic who didn't even want to go here, coming anyway just out of curiosity... that sounded weird. And potentially disastrous. But if Elizabeth thought he might be a good fit... Well. Gawain had his doubts anyway. And he wondered who exactly this man was, to bring a kind here without him knowing.
>>”Aye, he is a mystic. Of sorts. I’m a god. Son of Zues king of Olympus.”
...
What.
Gawain did a double take, looking at the man. "... for real?"
Okay so he was either crazy, or... an actual god. Given that suddenly magic was real, both were equally possible.
Sense of community. They had that. Gawain smiled, knowing that Sam would indeed lay down his life for the students if he had to. It was a good sign that Hercules appreciated that.
>>”Sixteen? A rebellious age I’m sure. That was when I decided to search for my father! And you have a children here? Tell me please! How old? Names?”
"I have two kids. A teenager and a two-year-old. I am not sure which one is more difficult" Gawain grinned. Then, before he could add more, Angua made an appearance and distracted the guest. The large man seemed delighted to meet her.
>>”And this is!?!? I adore dogs!”
"This is Angua. She's mine... but she pretty much belongs to all of the school now" Gawain smiled, getting started on heating water for the tea and laying out cups and assorted tea things. Once Hercules was done scratching the dog, he could take a seat and get his drink.
"So... you are saying, you are the guardian of a boy who would like to go to this school, and he's a mystic" he summarized, taking a seat himself. "Are you... also a mystic?"
