The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Javi had pins in his mouth, as he usually did when he was trying to size a new suit right. This one had considerable dimensions, which is why he recruited the help of Booker, who seemed more than happy to do it. It was always amusing. Between the two of them, Javi was the (reluctant) superhero-in-training, and yet his librarian boyfriend was the one who looked the part. More than.
>>”You sure they said they wanted the frill this high and not ‘please-never-use-mouth-invading-frill-fabric-ever’?”
Javi smirked, taking the pins out of his mouth to make some adjustments.
"I wish. This is for someone who... wishes to have a Shakespearean persona while doing superhero work. Their words, not mine." he chuckled, tugging on the frills somewhat. "Is that better?"
Javier was about to head out the window and back into the fray... when a whole lot of things happened at once. Outside, the main mystic started throwing lightning everywhere, and Jorge took over the fight against him... while through the comms came Booker's voice, yelling for help. "There's a what?..." Javi called, but he was already moving through the room and out into the hallway. His boyfriend was calling for help, after all. He could not punch a flying, lightning-throwing mystic anyway - not if even Hercules failed - but he was definitely the closest person in the building to help.
"I'm on my way Books!" he called back, listening simultaneously for Booker's yelling, and the sounds of crashing down the hallway. And then, he turned a corner, and almost barreled into Booker. He could feel the effect of his aura before they collided, and he grabbed Booker at the shoulders, pulling him around the corner, continuing his momentum. "Keep going!" There was not much of a chance Javi could put up a fight while Booker was within range.
"Agreed." Javier smiled at his boyfriend. "Joining the vigilantes has never been the plan... this was a one-time thing." Not the first one-time thing in his life, to be fair, and it wouldn't be the last. But that didn't mean Javier had to run head first into trouble. And Booker definitely didn't.
A loud sizzling sound broke the moment. Javier jumped, turning back to the stove. "Sh*t!"
Javier looked at Luna with sympathy. He knew the feeling. "Hey. Hey." he said as she punched the wall. "It's not your fault. You did great. That... out there is... something else." Way, way out of her league. Out of his league too, honestly but at least he had super strength on his side. Javier sighed, looking out the broken window. So many mystics. And high stakes: if the school fell, there would be a portal into another realm... He looked back at Luna.
"You can still help. You know this school well, right? You can go around and make sure no one snuck in. You are quick. You have you comms. We can't be everywhere all the time... Patrol the building." Javier moved back towards the window. Time to put up a fight. "And if you meet Booker... the guy who was with me... Tell him to stay safe?"
Javi reached up to wipe at Booker's tears. He was a sweetheart. He wanted to help, always, in any way he could. Even if it involved blowing up a giant robot and putting himself in danger.
>>"You were…pretty great out there too. Fighting bad guys, mystics, even riding waves of water and pummeling demon dogs…"
When he said it like that, it sounded... ridiculous. Javi smirked. It was still a bit fuzzy, and it was strange to think it had been him, doing all those things.
>>"...I-I'm glad…we both got to walk away from it."
"Me too." He smiled, shaking his head. "It was... a whole lot. I am not sure I want to use magic like that again."
The man flying over and hurling fire was... terrifying. Javier felt out of his league. He watched the man take a direct hit from Hercules - and Javi had fought alongside Hercules before, he knew what he was capable of. And yet, the mystic took a direct hit and didn't seem any worse for the wear. Javier felt his heart sink. But then Luna, brave little Luna, fired a shot at the guy, and in return, they had a wall of flame tearing towards them. "Watch out!" Javier grabbed the girl, and for lack of a better idea, he jumped. He needed to get her clear of the fire, no doubt, he had to. So he did. Jumping, and falling through a second-story window of the Mansion behind them, just in time.
Javier followed the skunk girl around the corner of the building just in time to watch the fire-and-wind guy descend. It was… a lot. A whole lot. He saw Luna fire off… um, a stink cloud? At the man, and not get much for her effort; the same went for the woman who shot at him, and some others. This mystic was a whole other level. And he was not alone. Some sort of a blast skimmed past the two of them, creating a burst of vines by the building. Javier grabbed Luna, pulling her out of the way. “You should go inside.”
Booker was... seriously shaken. He smiled at the mention of the robot, but even that could not wipe away all the other emotions playing on his face.
>>”Yeah...and almost got myself killed. I…I didn’t know what was going to happen but I still used those magic items. And..I was so…so close to not being here to have breakfast with you this morning…”
Javi wrapped his arms around Booker, holding him tight. He felt tears on his shoulder through the shirt.
"It's alright, love... It's okay. We made it. I got you." He remembered the dread he felt when the robot blew up. In that moment, he had thought he'd lost Booker too. "It wasn't your fault." He murmured. "You wanted to help. It's who you are, and I love that about you... People were losing their home, the world was in danger, and you helped. And you actually... did a lot. We were all putting ourselves in danger."
The smell of eggs and bacon and coffee was filling the kitchen, as if it was just another normal morning. Not counting the injuries... and the topic of conversation. Javi looked up when Booker touched his shoulder.
>>”Javi…I…I just wanted to say…I’m…sorry if you were worried about me out there.”
Oh. Javi sensed that this was going to be a longer conversation, so he pulled the finished food aside and turned off the stove. "What do you mean?"
>>”By all accounts I…shouldn’t have been there. I was more a liability than anything. And…I’m sorry I put you in that predicament. I just…I wanted to help…I wanted to be there to help you and…I’m afraid I was more a hampering than a boon. And, for that, I am so, so sorry.”
Javi looked at Booker with a soft smile, and reached out to hold his free hand. "A lot of things from last night are... fuzzy." He admitted. "But... do I remember correctly that you were piloting a giant robot against that monstrosity?..."
Javi was not sure if Booker realized what kind of potion he had taken for the fight. They certainly did not have the bandwidth to really discuss it the night before, between being healed and treated and being half dead from exhaustion. Not to mention trying to process having been in a pitched battle.
>>”My poor sweetheart. So sorry you’re going through that. Let me at least get the coffee brewing. Caffeine should help with the hangover.,”
"I'm not the one with the broken bones, cariño" Javi noted with a soft smile, but he let Booker do his thing. He knew his boyfriend enough to know he wanted to be useful.
>>”You think the X’s will be alright? Like, their entire home was just obliterated. I can’t imagine what they are going through.”
"Yeah." Javi frowned. Seeing the entire Mansion blown up like that... "It's a miracle no one died... It will take a lot of rebuilding. Poor kids... That... whole fight was a close call."
>>”Oh, I’m right as rain!... Okay. Maybe I could be better. It’s, ugh, probably time for my pain med.”
"Yeah. Go take your meds." Javi glanced over, watching him go. Booker had played the hero in the battle - was a hero - but there was no reason for him to play it brave now, and try to stick it out without the meds.
>>”One downside of being adapted, I don’t get to be healed by cool doctor mutants!... You? You went through a lot last night too. How are you doing?”
"Yes, but I was healed by cool doctor mutants" Javi pointed out, getting started on frying the bacon. "The... potion I drank was... strong, though. I feel like I have the worst hangover in history."
Javi gave him a soft smile, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "I'll do the eggs and bacon. Move over." He was already up anyway. And not injured, unlike Booker. Books was definitely the better cook between the two of them, but Javi could wrangle some breakfast if he needed to. And he found, now that he was up and the adrenaline was ebbing away, that he was indeed quite hungry. He had been too exhausted to eat much the night before. He glanced over his shoulder as he got to work. "Do you need more pain meds?... How are you feeling?"
Javi rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand, sleep-addled brain catching up to what was happening. Booker had dropped a bunch of bowls. That made sense. No one was expected to be dexterous with one hand broken. He padded over to help him pick up. Unlike Booker, he was also wearing a t-shirt, and he definitely looked less worn with all of his injuries healed. "Why are you even trying to cook with a broken arm?"
Unlike his boyfriend, Javi had been healed by DocProf, but the mental strain and the aftereffects of the potion he had taken still made him pass out for several hours, dead to the world. He didn't stir when Booker got up and started to make noises in the kitchen. However, when the crash came, he bolted up on instinct. Before he knew it, he was in the kitchen door, making a not-so-perfect superhero landing by catching himself against the door frame, blinking sleepily at Booker. "Everything okay?..."
Javier felt somewhat guilty for punching the guy through the hedge... then again, mystics were trying to break into a school and open a demon portal, so he kinda had it coming. Booker and the skunk girl certainly thought so. Booker yelled, and Javier turned to look, seeing a swirling vortex of... something. "Booker! Get away from there!" He could jump up to help him... but the moment he was in his aura, he'd lose his powers. Dammit. He looked back around; mystics were approaching, clearly having gone around from the main fight on the other side of the building. "Backup, anyone?" he called through the comms. We got someone summoning something in the back here..."
