The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She nodded slowly, in all frankness she agreed with Lee. NY seemed to be a magnet for trouble – not only for people in this time, but even in her time apparently. It wasn’t a coincidence she managed to get teleported from Boston to New York City, after all. Despite it’s culture of acceptance & pro-mutant, the city had a fair share of bigots. Plus, after hearing about the rip, it seemed that some mutants were causing damage in ways that they might not be able to predict.
She gave a weak smile, “I understand. You left for the safety of your son but he wouldn’t come. This city… It can be home to dangerous elements. There is good elements, too, of course. As a parent, I imagine it must be tough to try to keep your child as safe as possible despite the horrors of the world, of humanity.”
Gwen didn’t keep her hand patting Lee’s long – she wouldn’t have either way, but the reaction from Lee showed the woman wasn’t prepared for it. The smile was sincere but… Easily forced.
She nodded as she listened, “Take out or home cooked meals – both fill the stomach.” She gave her a soft smile as she said he cared. It was always sad to see people like this.
She nodded again, “He lives in the city, I’m presuming then?” She had no idea except that Lee was from Canada. Granted, she knew she had a kid and was a divorced – presumably single mom. It had to be hard, especially coming to a brand new country after a four year? Departure. In an attempt to change the subject from her husband, Gwen thought the next logical jump could be the time frame. “So, you were last here four years ago?”
Gwen’s eye naturally widened at the possibility of seeing the Tower of Pisa. How did she miss that one in her list of places she always wanted to visit but never dreamed of seeing? It wasn’t like they had airplanes in her time, heck, even cars. Steam boats were barely just getting off either.
She stayed leaned in, looking at him seriously, “How do we do it? Just… Open the portal and jump in… Or…?” She asked, slightly cautious. Charlie was going to kill her, hopping around the globe. But how could she ever miss an opportunity like this? She bit her lip, "When? Can we go... Now?" She asked cautiously. She didn't want to run away the stranger with her glee but she could barely contain her excitement. After all, it wasn't every day that she planned to go all over the world and back.
Gwen smiled and chuckled quietly as Lee explained how bad she was at cooking. She had said we before, but Gwen had presumed she meant her son – why, Gwen wasn’t entirely sure. But that is just what her mind went through. It quickly became clear that she was not meaning her son – she was meaning her ex-husband, apparently.
The frown nearly broke Gwen’s heart. She gave her a sympathetic smile and reached over to pet her hand comfortingly. “Well, at least he cared about you eating some good, hearty meals and not burnt water.” She gave her another encouraging smile. Divorces were hard. Granted, the only ones she ever witnessed in her time was when cheating occurred. “We can discuss something else, if you would like.” She offered it quickly, hoping to either change the conversation or at least let Lee know she was there for her.
Gwen gave Charlie a shy look before looking back to the steering wheel. It was weird the way Charlie made her feel, a way she had never felt before. She felt like she was discovering not only the 21st century, but she was discovering Charlie, too. The looks Charlie would give her every now and then, the touch of Charlie’s hand on her, it made her entire body shiver a little.
Would Charlie really like a girl like her, though? She didn’t understand basically anything that was going on in this world, was oblivious to a lot of things, and really naïve about subjects. Like that time she saw an African American and said… Well, that was then. She knew the terminology of the time a lot better. Did Gwen really like a girl though? Did she really like Charlie? All the signs in her mind, and heart, said yes.
In either case, she beamed at Charlie’s praise. That always made her extremely happy, to see Charlie impressed or happy with her. Although, the death on the streets of NY joke made Gwen laugh. “Remember, only one of us will go.” She unbuckled and hopped out of the driver’s seat of the car and passed by Charlie. Her hand brushed against Charlie’s as they switched seats – a moment which nearly caught Gwen’s breath.
Once back inside the car, she buckled up and was ready to go for this so called Chinese food.
Gwendolyn nearly had a light bulb moment but she blushed a little and nodded, “Good point, good point.” She couldn’t help but concur with that.
She grinned and nodded along with her, a small laughter coming out of her as well. “Do not worry. I think that is a curse we all have – I could never beat my mother’s ability to cook. Or my grandmother’s. Really, anyone in my family was tremendously better than I was.” She shook her head a little bit, thinking about her family. They were some interesting folks, that was for sure.
“I’m sure you’re not bad at cooking, though. It always seem worse to our own tastes than to others.”
She smiled and blushed a little at his compliment, “Thank you, good sir. Javier is a wonderful name as well.” She still spoke her entire name out – something that wasn’t really common in this day and age. It was one thing she just hadn’t been able to drop.
>> "No, my schedule is free"
She clapped her hands together, “Perfect! I will be sure to compensate you as much as I can.”
>> "May I?..."
She nodded. He would have to get a good look at them to see if he could even help her in her situation with them. She hated sewing herself, so she would be more than happy to push that responsibility onto someone else. That is how the world worked now, right? You pay someone to do things that you do not wish to do. Or something like that. She smiled as she watched him look through her dresses from the past.
>> "This is... incredible. Family heirloom?"
She shook her head, “Oh, no. They are mine. I even stitched together that one.” She walked over and pointed at one of the smaller dresses – it was clearly from when she was a child. She was learning how to sew at that time. It was her first dress she made herself – hence, she had decided to keep it with her. A reminder of her past.
She bit her lip, “The biggest thing I need is fashion advice for this time period. I am not quite sure where to begin… There’s jeans… Skirts… I am not quite sure what is the most fashionable now a days?”
She nodded. After all, she was right – she just needed to do better. She knew all about that - she had to do things in her time for her family that she didn’t really want to do and she had made plenty of mistakes along the way. After all, she hadn't gotten married yet and she had agreed to be shipped to PA/DC to a trophy wife, so.
In either case, the second time was a near success. Gwen had managed to drive the car. She had drove the car. She was nearly a 21st century citizen now! It had to be getting official at this point, right? Charlie seemed to think so. Granted, she was an amazing teacher. Gwen wondered what other kind of things she’d be wonderful at. But, Gwen stopped herself, her eyes wide mostly to herself.
She felt Charlie’s hand on her neck and she began to blush some more. D*mn her body, it always betrayed her so much. Although, the compliments made it definitely okay. “I will do it once more. Then a break, yes?” With that decision, she decided to begin driving the car around another lap of parking lot.
She finished but she accidentally braked a little too hard – not enough that some people wouldn’t usually do, but it was still a little fast. “Okay… Now I’m ready for a break.” She smiled and looked over to Charlie.
Gwen smiled as she listened to Lee talk. She seemed so knowledgeable about the modern world! Granted, nearly everyone seemed so knowledgeable about the modern world… Also, everyone else lived in the modern world…. She sighed a little as she leaned back in her chair. “That is reasonable,” she concurred.
She grinned, “Well… That is good. I understand – a child most likely wouldn’t enjoy something spicy. I’m not even sure if I will, to be frank with you.” She thought of herself as an adventurous person, but this new time had been trying. She grinned and nodded. Italian was something she had definitely had in the past – not pizza, though. “That sounds like a wonderful plan!”
She nodded her agreement, “Of course. I have not found a place that really matches what it was like in my time. I doubt I will, but I have not even come close to something that is really good.”
Gwen’s body was locked almost in the same exact position – the only things that moved was the natural rhythm of her breathing. Luckily for them, there was no outward signs that she was no longer “connected” to her own body. After all, she was looking at a picture of a little girl in the physical form. Plenty of reasons for that. Although, Gwen made a mental note to ensure nothing happened to the photo – she would need to return it to Stephanie once the mission was over.
She giggled, “It is a bit freaky, quite.” She agreed – her mutation was weird. It was a blessing (and a curse) that she couldn’t hear what people actually were thinking.
In either case, Stephanie began to transform into a shadow…? It was really quite a site to watch from Stephanie’s own eyes. “Wow… That is so amazing. Does it hurt at all?” To herself, though, she also wanted to call her mutation a bit freaky - not in a bad way, of course. Probably not, but Gwen was curious and a little naïve to mutations. After all, really, the only people she really knew with mutations was herself, Charlie. She figured probably more had mutations, but she just didn’t know for whatever reason.
Once they reached the apartment for the CEO, Gwen quietly murmured in Stephanie’s ear, “Here it is. This is her apartment.”
Gwendolyn was red. So red. She felt terrible. She took a deep breath and sheepishly looked over to Charlie, “I’m so, sorry.” She held onto the steering wheel, her eyes wide still. She felt so bad. She saw Charlie rub her shins and her stomach nearly dropped. She nearly broke her legs because of Gwen. With that in mind, Gwen nearly decided she would only use the metro or bus from now on. Did she really need to drive, after all? She hadn't driven in her time, why should she now?
Although, Charlie seemed to handle it well. She just said it was okay, try again, and that she would be there. She nodded meekly, “sorry,” she muttered again.
She took a deep breath, “Okay… Try again.” This time she slowly pressed down on the peddle. The car began to slowly move forward. Gwen nearly squealed – it was a nearly perfect take off. She then turned to the right and drove up the parking lot to the top. She slowly parked.
With a bewildered expression still, she glanced over to Charlie to see if she did well or not this time around.
She nodded, “Right? Maybe one day I will acquire one of those fancy jobs.” She sighed wishfully, thinking about the potential jobs that offer travel. She was content with her position in the Syndicate, but it would be nice to do more traveling – that she didn’t have to pay for.
She leaned forward, taking Lee’s advice very seriously, “That bad, huh?” That was a bit of a bummer, “Well, now one of my top goals has to be to find a good sushi place. At least we might be able to scratch some of the worse ones off from your experience?”
Her eyes widened for a moment, “I also hear Indian is quite popular now. Is this true?”
She nodded, “Right?” She smiled and finished her coffee, “I just wish it was not so darn expensive.” It wouldn’t cost nearly as much as in her time – or the time – but still was pretty expensive.
She smiled. Did she just make a new friend? Yay!!! It would be so much better to go to places to eat with someone than by herself. It also helped that she was making friends in this whole new world – it made her even more excited to be in this. She clapped her hands together, “Oh my! I have been wanting to try both of those! I have only heard good things about both. Plus, this thing called… Sushi. Fish that aren’t cooked?”
She nodded as he listed different things that individuals enjoyed in the 21st century. She agreed, for the most part. There were things she was still heavily against, of course, but it had improved.
She shrugged as she took a bite of the donut, “I miss home cooked food, for whatever that is worth.” She missed the food she had back in her time – always cooked by her mother or grandmother, always nearly perfect. Granted, there was plenty of amazing places but there was nothing like her mom’s cooking.
She nodded, “Yes, I am quite interested in traveling around the world. All of those places, Florence, Rome, Marseille, Barcelona, Kiev, Vienna… Most people never leave their hometowns in my time.” She sighed as she thought of all the potential beautiful places she could now visit. Although save on fair? How could he do that? For a second, a perplexed face showed across but then she realized – they could jump through his portal things.
Although realizing they could actually, seriously visit new places so quickly, she leaned forward again, “What kind of places do you want to go…?”
Gwendolyn jumped at the sound of a voice. She was so busy trying to get the case through the door, she hadn’t even noticed a man appear. She nodded as he came over and helped lift the case out of the way and put it to the side. She sighed in relief. She hated the huge, bulky thing. It was the only thing that would fit her dresses, though.
>> "Hello. My name is Javier"
She smiled and daintily shook his hand. They didn’t kiss hands anymore and Gwen really needed to get used to that, “Gwendolyn Theodosia White.” The thick upper-class Bostonian and English accent rang into the room.
>>"I... own the shop. What can I do for you today?"
She smiled, “Oh, you are the proprietor? I do hope you have some time to speak with me. If not, I can return another day.” She sighed, hoping that wouldn’t be the case. “I am in need of assistance with modern fashion. I also have some 19th-century gowns that need to be stitched and repaired, maybe even a little color added.” The time travel sucked the color out of the train car and practically out of everything else too. The suitcase and its clothing had been mostly safe but they weren’t unafflicted.
