The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Trust me, I'm pretty sure my cooking is part of the reason I'm still a bachelor," he cracked, taking a sip of his coffee and noting how she took it. He found himself hoping this wasn't the last they'd see of each other. "But I do make good coffee, at least." He gave a light chuckle, crossing one leg over the other as he stayed leaned against the counter.
And then came the question he was halfway dreading. "Well, honestly, I don't know. I'm basically, just a fill in guy. Someone's bassist flakes or gets sick at the last minute, I'm the guy most people call. Can't seem to land anything permanent, sadly. Maybe these guys will give me a call back. Here's hoping anyway," he murmured, sort of disheartened as he raised his coffee mug in a sort of mock 'cheers' pose before taking a sip. Though, he did note that she wanted to see him play again, which made him smile.
"Think maybe I could get a greyhound shift and just race for a living?" he half-joked.

He laughed. "Pretty sure I had my crisis a long time ago, so you should be good there," he teased, stretching as his joints popping a little. He had to admit, he was liking her as a person so far. She was sweet, funny, and definitely easy on the eyes. Her being a doctor pretty well guaranteed that she was smarter than him but that didn't really matter.
He walked to the kitchen, also not bothering with clothes. He looked back to see her following him, then got his coffee pot set up. "Well, it'll be ready in a few," he said, leaning against the countertop. "There might be food or something in the fridge. Nothing as good as what we had at the restaurant, but I try." He gave a soft shrug.
After a moment, the coffee was ready and he poured a cup for himself, then for her. "How do you like it?"

He jokingly scrunched his nose when she'd messed with his hair a little--as if it wasn't messed up already. He pondered her statement as he let his eyes trail her body.
"Oh well. At least I'm house-trained, I won't chew on the furniture, or anything like that, right?" He gave another chuckle, just sitting on the floor for the time being.
He leaned back against the coffee table, still letting his eyes sort of wander as he spoke. "It is kind of interesting to think about though, isn't it? I guess I'm just a walking paradox." After a moment, he stood to his feet. "Think I'm gonna make a pot of coffee; you want anything?"

Okay, so the cute wasn't working, the aggressive attention seeking didn't work too well either. This lady was going to be a hard sell, but he just took it as a challenge. He rolled to his feet, giving a few playful barks.
And then she picked him up. Good. It was a start. Hopefully she wasn't going to take him to the pound or anything. It would be way too awkward if the pound up and found a naked guy in one of the cages. Again.
He let his tail wag, snuggling against the woman as she talked.

"Yeah. The shifting looks seamless, but it can take a lot out of me. Especially coupled with other...strenuous activity," He gave her another wink as he leaned his head back against the couch, closing his eyes and breathing deeply; it was obvious he'd been through this routine quite a bit.
Though usually it was after running from the cops, or someone's angry boyfriend, or someone else he'd pissed off. So this was a rather nice change of pace, anyway.
He opened his eyes just in time for her to kiss him, and he returned the favor sweetly. "Yeah, being human does have its...perks," he murmured softly, placing a hand on her leg before standing up and walking to her end of the couch. Kneeling, he kissed her again.
"It's funny though. I've had the apartment authority over so many times thinking I had a dog...What do you think they'd do if they found I was the dog? I mean...I don't think I'm technically pet..."

His tail instinctively wagged when she rubbed his head and scratched behind his ears. Yeah, maybe that was weird, but he spent so much time trying to act like a dog that it was well-ingrained into his being by now. Some dog-like things just tended to happen when he was in shift now, as a result of pulling the same charade for years. Sadly, he was unable to speak in dog shift, for obvious reasons, so he shifted back.
As he did so, he fought back a wave of dizziness, staggering just a bit. Shifting took energy, and combining the two shifts in a couple of minutes with the...activities...of just moments ago, it took a lot out of him. But it wasn't long before he was seeing straight again. He sat on the far end of the couch where there'd be more room. "Yeah, I guess it would be weird, wouldn't it? I never really thought about that before, actually."
He looked at her with a sly grin. "You're too sweet," he quipped playfully, sticking his tongue out at her. "All things considered, I'd hope you'd find this form more attractive."

He rose on his hind legs again, pawing at her with both paws as he wagged his tail as fast as physically possible. He was pulling out all the stops here, but he wasn't sure it was working. Even still, he was going to damn well try, right? He whined again, as if he was begging to be picked up.
Returning to all fours, he rolled over on his belly again, looking up at her with sad, attention-seeking eyes.

Jay let the woman pet him, reveling in it much as a puppy would. He looked up at her before standing on his hind legs and staring into her eyes with his light blue ones, letting his mouth open and his tongue hang out. It didn't look as if this would work, but he was still going to try. Besides, at this point, he really didn't have anything to lose. Suddenly...
Plop! His plump little body lost its balance and he let out a yelp as he plopped over and landed on his side. Standing up, he shook himself off, whining softly before pawing at her leg again.

Strange? Who was this lady calling stra--oh wait he was a grown man who could turn into dogs and whenever he did so he was stark naked. So yeah...strange dog wasn't even the half of it. He rolled to his stubby little feet, looking up at the mom with his best sad puppy expression--which, let's face it, was actually really good. Especially considering every shift kept his normal icy blue eye color.
He pawed at her leg, then rubbed his head against her as if he wanted her to pet him. He whined just a bit, perhaps laying the charm on a little thick, but hey, he was doing his best here.

He shuddered, his other arm wrapping around her. Yeah, shifting was going to have to wait...
-----
He lay on his side on the couch, which...really was the few ways two people would fit, but he was content. His breathing was soft yet steady as he sort of shifted to look around the room. He didn't remember hearing any neighbors complaining, and the cops hadn't showed up, so he guessed it must not have been too loud. Not that it mattered. With all the 'indecent exposures' dotting his record, what was a 'disturbing the peace' added to the mix? Not that this neighborhood could qualify as 'peaceful' anyway.
He spent the next few moments in a contented silence before sitting up, and standing to his feet. Leaning down, he kissed Zelda's cheek to get her attention.
Once he was sure she was looking at him, he began to shift. It was instant; one moment, Jay was standing there, the next moment there was a golden retriever in his place tail wagging. One thing he'd neglected to tell her, was that no matter what form he took, it always had his icy blue eyes.

He gave a soft chuckle, closing the closet door. Oddly, his closet was pretty well organized, but that was only to make room for his 'baby.' The couch faced the door, with a TV on the wall and a coffee table in front of it. Off to the side was an armless computer chair with a small bass amp in the corner. Adjacent to the living area, with no separation whatsoever, was the kitchen, and a bathroom beyond that. On the same wall as the closet, was the door to the bedroom. One window was on the back wall, looking out onto the street.
"That's an idea I can get behind," he murmured, walking over and sitting next to her, wrapping his arm around her. "Only question is before or after you see me shift?" He winked, leaning in close and letting his lips meet hers.

He shook his head. "Gotta see it in person, sadly. I've tried the pictures, TV, you name it. I tested the limits of my powers as soon as I could gather what was going on. You know teenagers and trying to find loopholes," he gave a chuckle, really enjoying the walk. These days, he didn't often actually enjoy someone's company; usually it was just a mild tolerance.
When they got to her car, he gave her the directions and fastened his seatbelt, making himself comfortable as they rode to his apartment. When they got there, his keen hearing heard her comment about being glad to be out of apartments, and he silently agreed with her. Taking her hand again, he walked into the building and up the stairs to the third floor. Unlocking the door, it was very obvious once the door was opened that this place was most definitely inhabited by a bachelor.
It really wasn't a very big setup, and while it wasn't atrocious, it was clear that Jay lived alone. "Well...here we are. Pardon the mess. I wasn't exactly expecting company." He walked across the room and opened a closet, setting the bass case upright against the wall and closing the door. "Make yourself at home," he said politely.

"If you show me a Siberian Husky, I could shift into one. I haven't actually seen one, so I can't turn into it. I did go to the zoo when I was like, fourteen, so I do have a wolf and a fox and such. And...if you steal my clothes, I have no problem coming after you~" He chuckled, his mind sort of wandering. It had been quite some time since he acquired a new shift, but then again, there were only so many types of dogs in this city, and purebreds were especially hard to come by if you weren't looking for some yappy little rat-dog.
He let his thumb idly stroke her hand as they walked. "My apartment's like ten blocks from here, though I don't know if I wanna hike that again. Sure, I met you the first time, but what good could come out of doing it again. Unless you want to bump into more a**holes?" He smirked as he led her outside, bracing himself against the cool night air.

"I spend more time as a golden retriever, and even then I don't usually carry the bag. I'll carry it as a human, then strip, put my clothes in it, shift, then take it somewhere to hide until needed. Though it's usually night-time when I decide to do this, or not far from my apartment. On an interesting note, I found the best loophole to the whole 'No Pets' thing."
He looked around the room; the rest of the band had left already. "And after the whole mishap I mentioned earlier, I don't think I'll be going chihuahua for awhile. You know, just to be safe."
He couldn't help but smile at her remarks. "Ready when you are," he replied, grabbing his bass and standing to his feet, offering her his free hand.

"Eh, it happens, I guess. But hey, that was almost fifteen years ago, and I haven't seen the sorry bastard since," he said with a smile, putting an arm around her as she gave him a squeeze. He didn't talk about his past often--or ever, actually, but in this case, it was actually kind of nice. Granted, maybe parts of his story would be a little too dark, especially for a first date meeting.
"Being naked in public never ends well. Especially not in this city; I've had quite a few mishaps with lost clothes. Which is why when I shift, I end up taking a bag with me. Or you know, shift in a...controlled environment." He gave a light shrug, grinning at her.
"As I'm sure you will," he gave yet another wink, getting up to grab his bass. Then, he sat back down next to her, setting the instrument on the other side of him.
