The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sabine read the situation and Iota-Nine and took her shot. It was a personal accusation, and one she was sure the mutant was not expecting. The blonde was difficult and withholding, but she was also human, or close enough. Sabine was seeking to incite an emotional, likely painful memory, and a wince proved she hit her mark.
Of course, a mutant like her had some history of death or mayhem in her wake. Some mutations were harmless, and some were easily controlled, but many were too powerful, too unpredictable, or in the hands of the wrong people. If Iota-Nine was not careful, she could super-charge any one of those categories of mutant. Sadly, as Sabine’s mother taught her, no one could be careful all the time.
The mutant was going to be less likely to play their fight slowly. Sabine hit her with a low blow and she would want to do something to retaliate. Still, even if it was something small, Sabine shook her. No one started questioning their beliefs and world views in one day, but if Sabine could plant that seed, it could sprout over time. She would get it one day, and when that happened, she could make a damn fine SUPER agent.
The fighting resumed and the speed and ferocity of Iota-Nine’s attacks changed noticeably. Sabine would have to put more effort into defending and counter-attacking. She had to be careful, but she was not yet worried; Iota-Nine had not been the only one holding back. Sabine had years and years of training under her belt and she was starting to become confident the blonde was not some fragile flower. Sabine was not looking to kill the mutant, but she had no intentions of being upstaged in her own training session.
Traded blows grew more intense, but Sabine did have to remember she was there to fact-find as much as train, and Iota-Nine gave up something interesting. She had a job “just like” what Sabine said, but Sabine read the files. The other side did not have an equivalent to SUPER (yet,) but there were organizations that used powers “for the benefit of others.” One stood notably on the list. ”So, you were an X on your side, then?” Adding a former X-Man to the organization would be a boon SUPER could not ignore.

Sabine’s elbow came down, but Iota-Nine got herself out of the way of the strike. Training was a delicate balance for the sake of safety. Sabine wanted to provide her trainee with a challenge, but she could not give the fight her all, risking a potentially serious injury to an asset.
Iota-Nine, meanwhile, likely had no concerns about causing Sabine harm. Sabine was moving away, but she had gotten too close. Before she could earn the space to dodge I-9’s attack, a knee made firm contact with her stomach.
Sabine stepped back, coughing up all the air in her. She found some distance and the coughing slowly shifted to chuckling (and more coughing.) ”Impressive start,” she admitted, making a mental note of Iota-Nine’s ability to capitalize on a close-range fighting style like Muay Thai.
Finding her breath again, Sabine was ready to jump back into the fight, but Iota-Nine brought up her own profile and powers. Heaving a heavy sigh, she shrugged her shoulders. ”You’re a powerful mutant. Yes, we could use someone like you. But this is also about keeping you and the people around you safe. Can you honestly claim your ‘gifts’ have not inadvertently gotten people hurt? Gotten people killed?” With the ability to enhance powers and no off switch, Sabine doubted Iota-Nine never made a misstep that cost people dearly. ”We want to put you in positions to use those powers of yours for everyone’s benefit.”
Sabine settled back into her fighting stance, rolling her shoulders and neck to loosen back up. ”Besides, anyone who catches me with a knee is an asset I can work with.”

Iota-Nine was still prickly, denying how Sabine could be benefiting mutants in her work with SUPER. It was expected because most mutants saw themselves as mutants first in the same way humans saw themselves as humans first. They all lived on one planet, sharing the space whether they liked it or not. Sabine’s mother would have expressed the same beliefs Iota-Nine held, but in the end, her beliefs did not stop her from accidentally killing her own husband.
The fighting was finally heating up, and Iota-Nine was doing well to keep herself away from heavy blows. She was throwing punches, but nothing that threatened Sabine. She was wondering if the mutant’s physical strength was just too low to throw a strong punch, but the thought was interrupted by a kick arcing toward her mid-section. If Sabine’s reaction time was average or even good, she would have missed her chance to block the kick with the back of her forearm. The impact was strong; had it connected, she would have had the wind knocked out of her. She made a mental note to add Iota-Nine’s kicking affinity to her tablet when she had the chance.
They returned to their fighting, but Iota-Nine commented on how SUPER planned to use her. Sabine rolled her eyes, tired with the blonde’s routine. ”If your mutation is the only useful thing about you, that’d make you a s***ty asset, you know. If you’re not going to be a burden in the field, they will assign you missions accordingly, once you get it.” She punctuated her comment by grabbing a balled fist with her other hand and pushing herself and her elbow forward toward Iota-Nine’s shoulder.

The sweep was a high-percentage play. Sabine was taking advantage of her situation to go for an easy-to-land strike, and it resulted in both woman landing on the floor. If Iota-Nine was going to be stubborn, it was important to pick up little details. Sabine picked up on the way her opponent fell, because it was not as hard a fall as it could have been. She knew how to go down, which was important since it would naturally happen in fights. Slowly but surely, she was developing a profile for the woman.
They both got to their feet, but Sabine rolled over toward her tablet to jot down quick notes about what she had seen so far while it was still fresh in her mind. If the interruption annoyed Iota-Nine, the senior agent was sure she would find a way to live.
Waiting for the next round to begin, Iota-Nine taunted Sabine with some kind of “call-out.” It took her a moment to gather the goal of the statement. If she had to guess, it was some effort to make her feel guilty or dirty for the work she did. The shot lacked impact. ”I feel like I’m doing my job. Keeping people safe from danger and mutants safe from themselves. I have my role, just like any mutant operative,” she explained, matter-of-factly.
Sabine tossed the tablet away and moved back toward Iota-Nine, but there was no need to declare that they were resuming. They never stopped, so Iota-Nine would have been within her right to attack Sabine while she was entering notes. The agent shifted into a fighting stance, but it was a clear sign she was ready to go on the offensive. Her new Iota had an issue with revealing her technique before Sabine showed more of her hand. She was still expected to get results, so she would have to understand the newcomer’s ability to react and adapt.
Sabine would lead in with a punch and transition into a knee toward the blonde’s stomach, and she would see what decisions Iota-Nine made so she could properly react.

Sabine was curious about the new recruit’s motivations. If she was trying to keep her fighting style a secret, she was just wasting valuable assessment time. If she was trying to better get Sabine to show more of her own fighting style, the mutant was missing the point. SUPER was well aware of Sabine’s abilities on every level.
Then again, she may have been dismissing an obvious observation: Iota-Nine was battle-conscious enough to understand the advantages of not being the first to tip her hand. She wanted to know what she was fighting against, and that in itself was a tactical decision.
With her blonde partner keeping her fighting style vague, Sabine had to focus on the elements of technique in what she was doing. Maybe she was not using Krav Maga or Aikido, but it was impossible to fight totally outside of one’s training to be truly generic. When Sabine was letting Iota-Nine take the offensive, her style was predominantly blocking-focused, but Iota-Nine put more effort into sidestepping and avoiding strikes entirely. She was dodgy, both as a conversationalist and a fighter.
With fists being traded, dodging could be effective, but only for so long. Sabine felt the glancing contact between her knuckles and Iota-Nine’s jaw, and the recruit realized how close she was allowing herself to get to a serious blow to her frowning face.
Considering how milquetoast the fighting had been up to that point, it was a refreshing surprise when Iota-Nine took an opportunity to dodge and spun away enough to get to a new angle on her trainer. Sabine felt a foot connecting with the back of her knee and her instincts compelled her to loosen and give way, pulling her leg forward. She would end up on the ground, but it would pull away from the point of impact.
Most importantly, a kick like that would give a window, however brief, where Iota-Nine would not be grounded. One foot had to be in the air, which was not a position conducive to dodging. Using her new position low to the ground, Sabine spun around with a sweep, targeting Iota-Nine’s shin.

Iota-Nine moved in, throwing punches at Sabine. Nothing flashy or calculated; just a standard slew of jabs and crosses for the most part. Sabine was taking the opportunity to keep her distance enough to deflect or block the blonde’s strikes. The whole style was non-descript. It was the best word for what she was seeing from her opponent.
The new recruit was no idiot; she understood that Sabine was there to assess her fighting ability and potential to improve. The way she was fighting, she was holding back—way back. This was her brand of resistance: putting forth minimal effort to make her job harder. It was annoying, but she was still not the first, nor would she be the last.
Sabin prioritized her blocking, but she started mixing in punches of her own. Nothing complicated, and nothing indicative of Muay Thai. She wanted to start controlling the pace of the fight without tipping her hand too readily. In between grunts, she grumbled, ”Trying to keep secrets? They all do. Until they realize—unf!—they’re not leaving. You'll learn.” Her strikes were growing more aggressive in an effort to see whether I-9 prioritized sandbagging over defending her face. It was a slow ramp-up, but if she kept playing coy, she was going to catch a punch across the jaw.
Well, Iota-Nine was a chatter. Not even a chatter—a sasser. She was frustrated and had no qualms voicing her frustration whenever possible. It was not uncommon. People had different ways of being upset. Some people scowled, some (tried) to be uncooperative, and others thought they had enough wit to land some verbal barbs as an act of passive-defiance. Sabine could not tell if the goal was to be hurtful or annoying, but they generally only succeeded at the latter.
Iota-Nine would be no different. However, if she was going to open up with snark, Sabine could play that game as well. A woman like that was not going to be won over by emotional support and hand-holding; she was too angry. Stubborn and rude could sometimes respond to stubborn and rude, (once the wreckage was cleared away, at least.)
Sabine ignored the comment about their recruitment methods. I-9 did not get it, so addressing that would be a losing fight. She did arch an eyebrow at her renaming, because she did not see where “Judy” was hiding in her features. It was a lame shot, but Sabine was ready to return fire. ”And you look like a Barbie, but I’ll stick with Iota-Nine all the same.”
When asked about her combat experience, there was one honest answer, but it was a limited one. ”Some,” she repeated, chuckling to herself. Sabine took three steps toward the new recruit and stopped, adopting a stance to prepare for a fight. They were not there to talk after all. ”Fine, come show me what ‘some’ is.” She knew nothing of I-9’s fighting style, which was why she was willing to play a defensive role. The newcomer had no clue what Sabine brought to the table either, so if she was not careful with her approach, the older woman was prepared to sink a knee into that taunt stomach.
New recruits were rarely an easy assignment with SUPER. Occasionally, they would bring on a promising agent from another department or government with a passion and an understanding for what made their organization necessary. Then there were people who joined SUPER under the ignorant and misguided hate of mutants, (which, contrary to popular belief, Sabine opposed.) Those were the loose cannons and who were too ready to invoke violence when it was unnecessary.
And then there were the new mutant recruits who came to SUPER against their will. It was unfortunate, but necessary. They were often stubborn and defiant, refusing to accept their new given roles. It was not their fault; the world had failed them. It warped their world view and blinded them to the inherent dangers they could present to the world. It took time to bring some new recruits to their senses. Others would require more drastic measures which SUPER was not averse to taking. It all depended on the mutant and their willingness to see the truth.
In the meantime, mutant recruits needed training just like everyone else. Training was strictly supervised with “unbroken” recruits; they took no unnecessary risks when it came to preventing escapes. There was a call for an experienced human agent to lead a mutation-enhancing recruit through a physical training session. Once a photo of the new recruit was shared, Sabine saw a wicked glint in the eyes of Kristoph Karlson. Naturally, she signed up for the task before he could. The last thing they needed was her partner scaring away an already defensive recruit.
Sabine pushed through the training room door to find a blonde woman wearing an unhappy expression. It was what Sabine expected, and it suited her fine. If she was going to be given a tough time, (and she knew she was,) she was willing to return what she received.
The more tenured agent did not bother to look up from the tablet in her hands. She scrolled through the introductory information provided to her. ”Designation: Iota-Nine. Mutant-Booster, recruited from… the other side of the Rip.” Okay, maybe Sabine could take a moment to glance at the woman just once, if only to experience the odd sensation of looking at someone impossible. ”Interesting,” she muttered honestly before moving on.
”I am Omega-Two,” she said, placing the tablet and her duffel bag on a nearby bench. Her words were coated with blasé disinterest, as if she had better places to be. Something told her that would be a fine enough mirror for her new training partner. She grabbed a pair of black gloves from the bag and started slipping them on. Black was the theme of the day, with her tank top, yoga pants, and hair tie all sharing the SUPER-standard coloring. ”I will be leading you in hand-to-hand combat training today. Before we begin, do you have prior combat experience?” Sabine hoped she did; it was always more of a chore to train a green recruit and it felt distinctly like she was being tasked with beating the inexperience out of them.

Character
Personality: Sabine likes to think of herself as a social chameleon, reflecting the social traits of the person she is interacting with. Most people enjoy talking to someone like-minded, so if they seem outgoing or timid or boisterous, Sabine will make an effort to match them.
She is unsure of what her “true” personality is after years of playing the roles of others for so long, but when she is left to her own devices, the “real” Sabine is reserved, keeping to herself. Her job requires excessive socialization at times, so in her off-time she avoids interpersonal interactions. If she is caught in one, she will put forth her best effort, but dealing with people for too long can become exhausting. If this continues to be the case, she can become frustrated, which will slip into her behavior. Hobbies/ Interests: Reading, Movie and Stage Theaters, Dancing, Alone time in green areas and on rooftops, Stargazing, Astronomy Job or part time job and description: SUPER Agent Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Experiencing a rare late-in-life mutation, Being trampled in a crowd, Being Powerless, Claustrophobia Special talents: Sabine is skilled with firearms, armed combat, and hand-to-hand combat. She was once seen as a skilled actress, which has been adapted into her skillset as an Agent. Most people will never hear it, but Sabine has a lovely singing voice
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Lawful Neutral. Sabine cares less about what is “right and wrong;” her priority is maintaining order. Her aversion to mutants is nothing prejudice in her eyes; mutants are a dangerous variable that requires moderation in the same way alcohol, weapons, and drugs do. Lines occasionally have to be crossed for the benefit of the whole, and Sabine can be the one to cross them.
Mutations
Mutation description: Sabine is a human.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Strength- Sabine is fairly strong for a woman of her size and build, and seeks to make up any strength difference in a fight with technique. Speed- Sabine was on the track team in high school. She dropped the sport, but she kept up her running and considers herself exceptionally fast. Reflexes- Training and practice have honed her reflexes for a fight, making her a competent match. Stamina- Sabine’s stamina is average. As a runner, she was always a sprinter, and in a fight, she is not looking to drag things out. Flexibility- Sabine is limber, relying on ease of movement to benefit her in a fight. Fighting Style: On most missions, ideally, Sabine is not looking to get into a fight, but she wants to be ready for one. Trained in Muay Thai, she can utilize her hands, feet, elbows, and knees for powerful strikes, looking to end the fight fast. She also enjoys weapon training, and while she has fun with some more exotic weapons, in the field, she more practically uses batons and knives. From a respectable range, she is a great shot with her S&W M&P 9. Fighting Style Pros/Cons: Muay Thai has powerful, decisive strikes that can bring a fight to a swift end if they connect in the right place. It is also a primarily close-range striking style, so she can be out-ranged or grappled if she is not careful. If she can use her baton or a knife, her range can extend slightly, but not by much.
History Of Your Character Sabine lived her early years in Gatineau, Quebec, the town she was born in. Her father was a Cambodian immigrant to the country and her mother was a native French-Canadian. As a child, Sabine looked up to her parents, who were both hardworking, moral people. They worked at the local hospital where they met and encouraged their daughter, above all else, to make the world better with whatever she decided to do.
The main difference between her father and mother had nothing to do with complexion, hair color, or accents. Sabine’s father was a human while her mother was a mutant. They always espoused that Sabine should be open to who other people were and allow them to live their lives happily. It was a lesson that sounded great to an idealistic young girl.
Unfortunately, the world views of young girls were often broken. Her parents were having an argument one day. It was nothing serious; their arguments were typical of the spats many married couples got into, and they would move past it soon enough. The only difference was her mother’s headache. It was such a small detail, but it exacerbated her frustration enough and without realizing it, she unintentionally triggered her mutation. Sabine had seen her mother disintegrate objects before, occasionally by accident. It did not prepare her for watching her father disperse into a cloud of ash.
When the police arrived, Sabine told them exactly what happened. Her mother was taken away, but she was convinced it was for the best. Her mother was allowed to “live her life,” but it cost her father’s life. How would it make the world a better place if she lied to keep her mother safe? She was twelve, but she was already revising her beliefs: making the world a better place for everyone meant not everyone could live unchecked.
With no family in Canada willing to take her after she spoke against her mother, Sabine moved to America to stay with an uncle who immigrated to New York. Teachers often reported back to her uncle, advising she was a withdrawn young girl who struggled to associate with her peers. Her uncle was a career salesman who had the innate ability to connect with total strangers. Over the years, he taught Sabine how to pick up traits from the person she was talking to so she could mirror those behaviors. Reports from her teachers improved, and while Sabine was never crazy about her peers, she did find it comforting that so many of them were beginning to like her.
As she worked through years of puberty, she lost sleep over developing a potential mutation. Her mother was a mutant with a dangerous power, so there was a likelihood she could follow in those footsteps. It would have put her in a stressful moral quandary: if she became a mutant with a power that put others in danger, was self-preservation more important than turning herself in for the world’s benefit? Fortunately, it was a question she never had to discover the answer to, as she emerged into her twenties as human as the day she was born. Of course, to this day, she still worries about being one of the incredibly rare examples of a late-life mutant.
Her uncle had no investment in her future, so Sabine was able to experiment with paths and interests. In college, she had the opportunity to explore, which led to a near-unheard of double major in Criminal Justice and Theater.
Out of college, she got her foot in the door of the CIA and cultivated experience there. Eventually, she was called into an office to look over her sterling records, including interview questions she once answered about mutants and their role in society. After expanding upon her opinions that mutants deserved a place in the world, but their inherent potential dangers warrant caution and regulation, she was enrolled into one of the first training classes as a SUPER Agent.
Roleplay What’s your OOC alias?: Aly Where did you learn about this site?: I don’t remember the before times well… Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who:Rebecca Grey-Morris , Stephanie Graves , Vanessa Berry , Chrysanthemum Van Hart , Marisol Cervantes, Eupraxia Sample RP: Central Park was a thing of beauty amidst the rest of New York. The city had its own inherent beauty, but it was hard not to respect a rectangle of green nature standing adamantly in the middle of cement and glass and pavement. It was an excellent place to find a bench amidst the trees and read a book.
“Um, I’m sorry, excuse me?”
At least, it was a good place to read most of the time. It was also one of the places New Yorkers and tourists alike congregated, which was the only thing making the location less than ideal. Most people were content to leave the woman on the bench alone, but some people found it necessary to be social for some reason or another. (More often than not, these friendly people were tourists, since New Yorkers had the sense to mind their own business.) ”Yes?”
“I’ve heard there’s some kind of ‘castle’ in the park. Do you happen to know where I might find it?” Texan accent, of course. Her voice was warm and welcoming. She had a wide smile and laugh lines at the corners of her mouth, accompanied by the crow’s feet from squinting in constant laughter.
”Of course!” she replied enthusiastically, replying with a matching smile and sincerity in her accented voice. ”It’s not the type of thing you can just pass up if you’re in New York, right?”
“Right!”
They both shared a hearty laugh as Sabine pointed the woman in the direction of the castle. ”If you follow the path down this way, you will see a sign for Belvedere Castle.”
“Thank you!”
”You’re welcome!”
And in a perfect world, that would wrap up their interaction. Sadly, The world was not yet perfect, and SUPER had no policy for taking Chatty Cathies off the streets. “You seemed absorbed in that book, sugar. Anything exciting? Steamy maybe?” Her grin was suggestive, but in the way a teasing aunt would be suggestive; more maternal than sleazy, but still enough to make you uncomfortable.
Sabine chuckled, shaking her head. ”Not quite, miss, but it is enthralling. I’m just trying to read as much of it as I can before I have to get back to work.” It was the politest way to imply that she wanted to return to her book.
“Oh, of course!” It was nice to see the Texan was not entirely oblivious. “I’ll leave you be and return to my journey. Enjoy your day!”
”You too!” They waved and smiled and laughed until the older woman was out of eyesight. Sabine was finally able to sigh and return to her book and the peace and quiet necessary to properly enjoy it. ”It’s too early for people on a day off.” Nevermind that it was ten in the morning, or that she just lied about work. As far as she was concerned, on a free day, no one had reason to bother her.
