The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was another slow night but Juka really didn't mind. His life had been a roller coaster of discovery lately, mainly centering around his recent discovered immortality. He had only just begun to come to terms with the fact, assisted along by a healthy dose of books. Yes indeed, he had discovered the library shortly after the fact he had discovered he probably no longer aged and, oh what a glorious thing that it was. In fact, he was now intending to learn Spanish so that he could, one day soon, visit Spain. It was a truly glorious plan that he had full intentions of going through with.
For the time being, however, he needed to complete his nightly patrol. For months Juka had been going out for a few hours every night in order to help make the city a little safer of a place. Normally there wasn't much to do aside from deal with the odd mugging or gang beat down, but every so often it was more serious. He even had to deal with mutants causing trouble on occasion. But tonight had been uneventful and it was getting close to time for him to return to his apartment.
"Wallet! Now!"
Hearing the demand, Juka turned his bubble in the direction of the words, anvils floating around him. This was exactly what he came to the city to combat, evil people like that who demanded wallets and other possessions. How could they be so inconsiderate?
"Drop the gun and you won't get hurt," Juka yelled, as soon as the thug and his potential victim came into view. He really did hate when they were armed with guns. Neither ninja masks and Green Mage cloaks, nor anvils were much of a defense against them. Hopefully he'd be a smart one and give up without a fight but so few of them were.
Juka blinked and stared at Andrea, dumbfounded. He knew it was rude but he just couldn't help it. How could one go on a date by mistake? How was that even possible? "How do you go on accidental dates?" he asked, simply unable to completely wrap his head around the concept. He always made it clear to the people he was asking out that he was asking them on a date. Actually, now that he really thought about it, he didn't really tend to go on dates. It was more along the lines of casual hook ups that usually led to other things. No real dating involved, exactly. But the fact remained that he'd never gone on any accidental dates before. That he knew of.
As the ticket sales woman complimented Andrea on her scarf, Juka beamed both at Andrea and the ticket lady. He knew he was right about the scarf being perfect for her and here was all the confirmation of such a fact as he needed. He didn't realize that her attempts at speech happened to be attempts at dissuading him from finding her a guy of her very own. "It was gotten at Kali's Boutique in Times Square," Juka answered happily. "Its a darling place, I'm sure you'd find something you'd love there. If you go, just let Kali know that Juka Miami sent you and I'm sure she'd treat you extra special." Because he was one of her best and most regular customers. And he was famous. Sort of.
Waving at the ticket lady, Juka followed Andrea into the museum proper. "You are so very welcome, my lovely lady. You deserve the best. And she most certainly was nice." The question now was, where to go? The museum was, apparently, rather large. He decided to let Andrea lead him in whatever direction she fancied. He hadn't been to a museum since he was a child so this ought to be a rather interesting experience.
It felt very much like playing some sort of funny game of dodge ball except that instead of dodging balls he was smashing tiny robots. Once again Saph proved to be an excellent partner and Juka couldn't help but grin at the whole experience. Who knew smashing deadly robots to hundreds of tiny little metal bits could be so very much fun?
Between Juka's anvils and Saph's crowbar, it seemed like none of the little robots were likely to get through their defenses. Something at the back of his mind, however, told him that this was far too easy. After the giant robots from before that had given them each so much difficulty, it didn't seem right that the swarm of little ones should be so easily dispatched.
Just as Juka was thinking that, Saph warned him of an incoming pink car whose engine could now be heard. "I don't know if it'll work but I can try," Juka answered. Doing as suggested, with the hope that Saph would be able to deal with the far reduced mini robots in the process, he pressed his four anvils together. The result was a sort of platform, with four bubbles around the four anvils and a slight gap in the middle. He lowered it so it hovered just above the ground, wondering exactly what his stalwart ally had in mind. Most likely someone would be able to stand on the center of the platform, but it would likely require some balance skills.
"I hope you know what you're doing," Juka warmed, slightly apprehensive. He knew he could take care of his part of the plan, it was just a matter of whether or not Saph was overestimating his own abilities.
Juka had been planning this day for weeks. First had promised Andrea that he would find her a boyfriend. Then he had promised Kai that he would find her a suitably perfect girl. Well, one thing led to another and his own mind clicked together with the fact that the two of them were simply meant to be together, it was just a matter of showing them as much. Once that little conclusion had been come to, the only thing that held him back from planning their little hookup earlier was his own lack of a date, a problem rectified very recently when he met that lovely Molly who had complimented him on his ribbons. Clearly, this double date was a matter of fate.
Juka had an added mission when it came to Kai. The poor boy had practically begged him (well, maybe a little bit of an exaggeration, but only slightly) to help him find and outfit, a task that Juka took very seriously. He found inspiration in an outfit that one of his former band-mates had worn. A few modifications, mainly getting rid of the skirt and cape and reducing the shininess factor a little, and it was perfect. Upon seeing it Kai was a little apprehensive about wearing it, but Juka was very persistent, letting him know just how much time and effort he had put into it and just how crushed he would be if it wasn't worn, at least once. His expertise had been asked for, after all.
For himself, Juka went with an outfit a little out of the norm for him, opting for something with a bit of a darker edge to it. He had found the lovely red dress only a few days ago and, after working on it for the past two nights, knew that nothing was going to stop him from wearing it tonight.
The date was set to start at a local restaurant known as The Pasta House, an Italian place Juka had been too before and where it went from there he wasn't certain. In usual fashion, Juka didn't bother to hail a taxi or catch a bus, instead opting to float his way there, landing behind the building and away from overly curious eyes. He wasn't entirely successful, however, as a little girl spotted him and began pointing excitedly. He waved happily at her and made his way inside.
Juka listened to Saph's out loud pondering of his problem, nodded where appropriate to confirm the accuracy of the statements. How often did he drink? He took a moment to think about it. "Well, I used to drink all the time. I guess I haven't really drank much since the whole Cthulu incident though." What did that have to do with things anyway? He'd never had any problems with alcohol before, after all, unless you counted problems with keeping his bubble going in a straight line after a long night of partying, but that was nothing like this.
"I'm pretty sure I'm not cut," Juka answered. He would remember getting cut. He glared at Sam and his suggestion that he might be a light weight. "I most certainly am not! You can't be a rock star and a light weight at the same time, it just doesn't work like that!" Didn't everyone realize that? Apparently not.
The comments of the other two did, however, alert Juka to a rather unusual fact. When he had come in here he was starting to feel rather drunk. But now? He wasn't feeling exactly sober but he was feeling a lot more right in the head than when he had first arrived. Could his bubble have something to do with that? If that was the case, maybe he just had to wait for the remainder of the alcohol to leave his system. Hopefully. Oh gods he hoped that was the case, he didn't need to drink, really, just so long as he wasn't going to be stuck inside a bubble for the rest of his life. As much as he loved his bubble, he loved it even more when he could turn it on and off.
Coffee really was a wondrous thing and Juka took a heaven-filled sip of his delicious brew. How did those poor mutants who were to be forever denied the glorious heavenly coffee drinks even survive? Oh, how dull and grey their poor worlds must be.
"Nice ribbons."
Juka grinned at the woman complimenting him who, whole not nearly as colourful as he was (but then again few were) was nevertheless sharply dressed. And he could appreciate sharply dressed. "Why thank you, my dear. I'm so glad to see someone around with a discerning eye." He smiled his best grin at the stranger.
Then, rather unexpectedly in a place like this, the other woman near him complimented him too, this time on his dress. Well, two darling women with eyes for fashion, would wonders never cease! "You are simply too kind," Juka assured her.
"You leave everything to me," Juka stated with a grin. Oh, he was looking forward to this. Not only was he going to be helping his friend out to find a romantic partner, but he had also just been given permission to help him find something to wear as well and while he wasn't as experienced as he led on in tutoring people in romance, he was definitely experienced with fashion.
"For now, I should be going. I promise you, all you need is a little patience and everything will be wonderful." With a smile and a wave Juka rebubbled himself (though it took a little more effort than usual) and lifted into the air. He was glad that, for once, he didn't have his anvils to carry around with him because he simply wasn't sure he was up to it. The remainder of the day and likely most of the night, he decided, would be spent at home reading a book.
Juka grinned as one of his anvils struck one of the tiny flying bots, sending shards of metal raining to the ground. It was, all things considered, a rather satisfying sensation. Normally he didn't much like fighting, although he'd been slowly learning how to do it (mostly through trial and error) in order to help people, but since there was no one to get hurt in the destroying of robots, he was discovering that it was actually rather fun to hit things so hard that they exploded.
The only problem was that there was an awful lot of robots and it was proving to be rather difficult for Juka to keep track of them all. For every one that he spotted and struck intentionally, another would be gotten by shear luck, simply because his anvils were moving around so quickly that it was difficult for the little robots to get inside their guard. He began to lose track of just how many of the robots he had managed to destroy.
"Jukes! Can you come lower? Just above me... I'll get any that get past your anvils!"
"On my way," Juka yelled down, lowering his bubble. A change of strategy seemed to be exactly what they needed. Looking below him, he could see that Saph was just as overwhelmed by the swarm of machines as he was. He halted his descent just above the other man, as directed, and continued his assault. If only he had eyes at the back of his head this would have been so much easier to deal with.
There was nothing quite like a delicious cup of coffee to make an all ready great day even better. Of course, Juka no longer needed to drink nor did he need caffeine to keep him awake, as his bubble tended to take care of both of those little inconveniences, but that hadn't done anything to reduce his love of coffee. It was right up there with chocolate and cheese cake as far as he was concerned.
The day was beautiful and sunny and Juka had spent much of the morning window shopping, going from second hand store to second hand store looking for those rare gems that he might be able to make even better for his own uses. He hadn't actually found much worth buying, but simply looking was most of the fun anyway. Now that it was starting to get a little later in the afternoon, he decided that a coffee would be the perfect way to end a close to perfect day.
Juka was wearing a long blue and green dress with black ribbons in his hair and received a few curious glances as he walked into the front door of the coffee shop. Completely used to them (in fact he'd be more surprised if not a single person glanced at him), he paid no attention and walked up to the counter. A couple of minutes later, coffee in hand, he walked over to a spare table with a good view of the window. Sitting down, he smiled at the brown haired woman sitting in the table next to him.
"Well, I guess there is something to be said about being safe and planned," Juka admitted, with just a little reluctance. He knew there were plenty of people that just couldn't deal with the kind of random and chaotic life that he lived, he just didn't understand them too well. Not that every aspect of his life was so random as all that, his band for one thing he took very seriously and practiced with almost every day, at least for a couple hours. But beyond that it just seemed so, well, boring to live a life like that. Juka needed excitement and spontaneity.
"Maybe there's a middle ground," Juka suggested, helpfully. "You don't have to be like me to be like yourself. Its all a matter of being comfortable. I'm a rainbow princess, I admit it. Doesn't mean that you have to be." In fact, he really couldn't imagine Alex as anything rainbow, let alone a princess but it was never a matter of being as out there and flamboyant as possible, it was a matter of being and individual and everyone's individual was different. Juka's just happened to include lots of colour, noise and excitement. "And thank you, my darling, for the offer."
Juka couldn't help but giggle when Alex asked if he was a transvestite. It was, of course, not an uncommon question, if anything he was surprised that he had managed to wait that long before asking. "No, I assure you I am not a transvestite. I just like to wear pretty clothes and what's prettier than dresses and skirts?" And ribbons, bows, frills and lace too, of course. "Why should I let conventional dress hamper me?" He never had thought much about convention anyway, much to the dismay of his very conservative and proper parents.
Juka gratefully accepted to offered pop and took a drink. He was all ready starting to feel a little better, though maybe it was all in his head. It wasn't like he was going to go run a marathon or anything, but sugary goodness was most certainly to his liking.
"Coke is perfect," Juka assured Kai brightly. "And yes, you would be in the bubble." He wasn't quite certain how one could have a bubble ride without being in the bubble. Did he think maybe he'd end up on top of the bubble or something? "I assure you, there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of."
Now the girl was, perhaps, another situation entirely. "Kai, my dear, if you need help with girls you have come to the right man, I assure you. I promise not only to find you someone sweet and lovely just like yourself, but I'll even help give you pointers on how to woo her into your arms. You may be a little unpolished but I'm certain we can fix that." Actually it was the first time he had ever gotten the opportunity to tutor in such a manner, but surely his own experiences would serve him well?
It was kind of funny to watch the balloon man deflate and were it any other situation, Juka would have laughed out loud at it. Now, however, was the time for business not amusement and the business of the day included two things. First, he and Saph needed to get out of this twisted video game game maze and second, once they did get out of the maze, they had to kill Shin for creating it. Because Juka knew the triangle man was certain to be getting a sadistic pleasure out of their suffering.
The moment Saph picked up the drill thing, Juka felt a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. This was not going to end well, strange buttons should not simply be pushed. Of course, if he were in the same situation he would have done the exact same thing because strange buttons, of course, presented an unignorable allure, but that clearly was not the point. The moment Saph did press the button, we went careening up through the dirt, until the sun could be seen through the long upward tunnel and Juka floated after him, stopping as soon as he was back above solid ground. "Well, I guess that answers the question about what the button does."
A glance at the sky clock showed Juka that their time was beginning to run out and they only had 5 minutes left. With a shrug, he followed Saph into yet another green tunnel, hoping that this time they wouldn't be confronted with fire breathing and drill wielding balloon people. On the positive side, they most certainly were not confronted with any more balloon people. On the negative side, they were confronted with a giant monkey dropping barrels down a slanted hallway, right at them.
Juka knew this giant monkey very well and his name was Donkey Kong. Taking a look high above, Juka noticed a giant red button on a platform next to the giant monkey. "Hold tight," Juka told Saph, hoping the other man would be able to continue jumping until he reached the button which he could only hope would cause the monkey to plummet to his doom. The barrels, of course, were no threat to the floating bubbler who simply floated over them with no risk to himself. Part way up, however, he was confronted with another problem, this one in the form of birds, each with two balloons strapped to their back. Birds that were now proceeding to divebomb Juka.
"Shin, I am going to kill you as soon as I find you," Juka yelled out, dodging the first bird that came at him.
Juka nodded at Alex's insistence on passing up the idea of a storm bubble ride. It wasn't a surprise, really, but the man clearly didn't know what he was missing. Some people just weren't up for a little adventure in their lives, which was too bad for them. The idea that creating a storm took concentration was similarly not much of a surprise. He knew that many mutants required large amounts of concentration for their powers to work and even many of his own powers required similar levels of concentration, mainly his time control abilities.
"My dear lad, sometimes you just need to take a little risk in life, have a little fun. You would be surprised where you end up." Juka winked, remembering some of his own youthful adventures. When he had first started dressing in elaborate dresses, that had been an adventure all on its own, complete with roller coaster-like ups and downs. His parents were a definite down but his friends and acquiescence were both definite ups. "You can't expect things to happen magically without going on a limb to get them, right?"
Juka giggled at the idea of leaving Alex, or anyone else for that matter, stranded with the cows. "Don't worry, I promise not to leave you alone with any cows, man eating or otherwise." Forests, Juka knew, often had to weather storms and even though there were sometimes flying branches or the occasional falling tree, if they were in areas used to storms then the trees were adapted to dealing with them. Having lived in Seattle for a good portion of his life, he was used to natural storms. Besides, when storm riding, it wasn't like he was sitting in the middle of all those trees. He was far above them, having the time of his life. Of course, if Alex was the one creating the storm and wasn't able to ride his bubble at the same time, maybe they should find a more open place with fewer potential falling branches...
Poor Andrea just seemed to be so confused and baffled that Juka couldn't help but feel a little bad. "Dearest, this doesn't have to be a date," he assured her. "You are lovely and sweet but I fear that you might not feel me to be your type." He didn't want to hurt the poor woman, of course, but it was true enough. If nothing else she seemed the type to want an actual stable monogamous relationship, and that just wasn't him. One of the reasons he loved his Prince Venus so much was because they had an understanding that worked out beautifully. They got together every once and a while for some fun and there was no hurt feelings if either one of them had some fun with others too. In fact, that was pretty much the expectation but he wasn't sure Andrea would quite be up for such a reality.
Juka got out of the cab and followed Andrea into the museum. "If you like, my damsel, I'm certain I could find someone absolutely perfect for you. Just give me a little time and I promise to find a darling man who is just your type." A pause of consideration. "Or a woman, if you'd prefer." It was always a good thing to cover your bases, just in case.
The line to get into the museum wasn't terribly long, luckily and Juka stood there patiently waiting for his turn. When it finally was his time to pay, he paid for his own ticket and waited for Andrea to pay for hers. While he would have been more than happy to pay for them both, he got the distinct impression that trying to do so would probably confusing the poor woman even more. Typically that was 'date' behavior, even if it was anytime behavior for himself. One of the perks of having rich parents was that he was able to share the wealth with others.
Juka didn't like the fact that someone was knocking on the door. Someone knocking on the door meant someone was trying to get in and, iced shut or not, someone trying to get in meant that someone eventually would get in. And someone actually getting in meant that someone would see that he was a mutant and who knew what would result from that. He had the advantage of having a mutation that didn't really frighten people too much. After all what was scary about a giant floating soap bubble? But there was a crowd out there and large amounts of alcohol, which meant that people were unpredictable and where drunkenness was involved violence often followed. He really really didn't want to have to deal with escaping a mob of drunken humans. Outside he could escape fine but there were two main problems with the current potential situation. First, it was hard to float through a roof. Second, Saph and Sam were likely to get caught in the crossfire and he couldn't just float those two out with him.
"Oh, I wasn't bleeding," Juka clarified for Saph in a completely off handed manner, as if it was normal to not be bleeding after being stabbed and nearly dying. "Apparently my bubble stops things like that. I think its an automatic defense or something. Unfortunately it also makes it impossible for anyone to try and actually, you know, help me." That had been the most depressing and frightening couple of months of his life and words could not describe his relief when the bubble finally started acting normally again.
"I don't think its possible to pop my bubble," Juka answered Sam's question. In fact, the very thought kind of frightened him. He didn't know what would happen if the bubble was frozen. Could a frozen bubble be popped? Positive if it could: he could leave the bathroom without worrying about angry mobs. Negative if it could: He had no idea what the consequences would be.
"I'm not sure its a good idea to try and freeze and then pop my bubble." Juka sent Saph a worried look at the suggestion. The fact that the black hole mutant had apparently died made Juka doubly worried. Popping his bubble, if even possible, probably woudln't kill him but he really didn't want to have to find out.
