The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Although less unusual for Juka than buses, taxis were still not exactly a common experience for him. Coming from a rather wealthy background, the only time he'd ever employed them was when sneaking away from his parents and going clubbing and partying with his friends. Which, now that he really thought about it, was pretty often in his teenage years. If one knew where to look, and Juka most certainly did, Tokyo had some killer parties and an even more killer club scene. It didn't really matter that he was underage, he had his ways of sneaking in. Plus, it didn't hurt that he was a bit of a local celebrity, fronting Ukime as he did.
"Oh god, this isn't a Date...is it?!"
Juka giggled, caught completely off guard by the question. It hadn't even occurred to him that she might consider this a date or that it was anything other than him repaying her for the unfortunate hair mishap. He liked her, but somehow got the impression that she wouldn't be into some of his more exotic interests. "Darling, not unless you want it to be," he winked at her, leaving thing entirely in her quart. It wasn't that she wouldn't make a lovely date, she most certainly would, he just didn't think she'd be into sharing, among other things that sometimes scared women away from him. However, now that he really thought about it, perhaps he should consider finding her a date more to her own tastes...
As it turned out, the pair of them hadn't been too far away from the museum after all and in short order the cab stopped and Juka paid the driver, being sure to leave him a nice tip. "Thank you darling, you've been wonderful," he assured the driver, stepping out of the vehicle and waiting for Andrea to join him.
Juka gave Kai a relieved and grateful smile. Some time very soon he as going to pay the teen back, no doubt about it. For the time being, however, he was glad just to be able to sit and not do anything. He couldn't remember the last time he had felt this drained of energy, certainly not since his time manipulation powers had appeared. Hopefully practice would help negate those particular unpleasant effects.
"First I'm going to offer you a bubble ride and second I'm going to find you a girl," Juka informed Kai. If his voice wasn't quite up to its usual levels of perkiness, the thought was still there. "Its the least I can do to repay you, you lovely individual." Because it was important for him to know that Juka wasn't taking advantage of him and that his kindnesses were appreciated.
"Soda would be lovely," Juka agreed. While he didn't technically need to drink much of anything, maybe a nice sugar rush was exactly what he needed.
"Japanese is a lovely language," Juka insisted. "But if you don't want to learn Japanese, I'm sure I could find you someone that would be willing to teach you Korean." One advantage to being a socialite is that one knew many different people from all sorts of walks of life and Juka was certainly no exception to that particular rule. He couldn't think of anyone he associated with, off the top of his head, that spoke Korean but he was certain if he didn't know anyone directly someone would know someone and they'd be easy enough to get in contact with. Either that, or perhaps someone would show up at one of his shows. These sorts of things just sort of had a habit of working out.
Juka caught Alex's rather dubious look at his suggestion and grinned. Some people really did have a lot to learn, now didn't they. "Darling, of course it would work. I've done this sort of thing before, in real storms. I could even bring you along for the ride if you wanted." Although he wasn't sure the other man was the crazy rollar coaster riding type, sometimes it was hard to tell with people. Most loved his bubble rides but some, especially those with a fear of heights, weren't much of a fan. Their loss, as always.
Juka didn't really understand the entirety of the weather control descritption and the potential conseuqneces, but what he did understand was that they should be in a place with fewer people to avoid potentially nasty consequences. Thankfully nasty consequences weren't something he had to worry much about with his own powers, with the exception of Andrea and her wiggly hair. He still wasn't entirely sure how that had even happened though.
"There's a lovely patch of forest a few miles out of the city," Juka suggested. Actually, it was probably more than a few miles since it had taken him a few hours to float there. That, and he had no idea if it was private or public property. He just sort of floated until he found a place that looked nice and landed there. "Maybe we can go there some time?" Oh, how much glorious fun that would be.
As Juka waited for his order to arrive, he took the time to get a good look at The Peace Pipe. Although it couldn't' quite be considered a passion of his, he did enjoy watching people in their myriad of colours, shapes and fashions. This particular little shop seemed rather lovely assortment of individuals. It had a rather laid back feel while remaining hip at the same time. All in all, his impressions were positive and if the food and drink were good it might even be a place he would consider returning to.
“First time to the Peace Pipe?"
Juka turned his head back to the man beside him. He had, of course, noticed the individual on his way in and during his once over of the room. He had even noticed the card tricks though, like most, assumed it was mere slight of hand although rather impressive slight of hand, he'd give the man that. As a mutant himself perhaps he should be more observant when it came to noticing the powers of others, unfortunately he wasn't known to be the most observant when it came to much of anything. Well, much of anything outside of the realms of fashion and music, his two true life long passions.
"It is indeed my first time here," Juka answered, with a friendly grin. "I presume you're a regular?" It seemed a logical assumption based on the cheese cake recommendation. As the man spun the card on the table, Juka was forced to reassess his initial opinion that the man was simply a rather talented slight of hand artist. No magician or trickster that he had ever seen had been able to do something like that and surely he would see the wires attached to the cards if there was any? It might be said that he was notoriously unobservant and greatly lacking in common sense, but he certainly wasn't stupid.
"That's some trick you've got going on there," Juka observed. "How's it done?" He quirked an eyebrow at the man. Even though he was beginning to suspect that it was more mutant powers and less slight of hand trickery, he knew that many weren't quite as open with their mutant heritage as he was. Although even he wasn't about to bubble in the middle of a crowded public place in order to demonstrate.
Juka didn't want to make poor Kai too bored as he experimented with his power but every so often he looked in the teenager's direction and he seemed to be almost as into the whole experiment as Juka himself was. He had no idea what Kai might be seeing as he sped up the plant's growth, but whatever it was seemed to be holding his attention.
"Thirty times normal?" Juka gaped at Kai for a moment, trying to wrap his head around it. "That's pretty good, isn't it." He nodded tiredly. Now that he had some idea of both what he could do and how fast he could do it, he supposed the next step was practicing enough so that this unnatural exhaustion would no longer grip him after using his time control powers. That, however, would most definitely have to occur on another day.
Juka returned Kai's high five, though admittedly with less enthusiasm than he normally possessed. He simply wasn't used such intense physical exhaustion. "Say, do you mind terribly if I stick around for a little bit before floating out of here? It seems to have taken a lot out of me." Next time he saw Kai he would bring him even more presents to repay him for his help.
Juka tried his very hardest not to show his relief when the flamethrower attack failed to hit his poor drifblim. He knew that would be the end of him if it somehow did manage to hit. Almost anything other than fire he could deal with, but fire had a rather unfortunate tendency to burn things. Especially things that were flammable. Like bubblefull drifblim happened to be.
Juka put his hand into his pocket and took out a black orb. He bubbled it with a tendril and sent out towards Neko. "Neko, Shadow Ball!" With those words he sent his drifblim charging, black shadow ball in front of him, intending to hit his enemy pokemon with it.
"Kecleon.....ICE BEAM!"
Well that didn't sound much better than the flamethrower attack, now did it. Hopefully his drifblim would be able to survive being a popsicle.
Even if Juka wasn't able to see the effects of his power immediately, it didn't take him long to be able to feel the effects. Controlling time within his bubbles was different than simply making them and floating around in them. Floating around took almost no energy at all, especially when it was only himself floating. With his anvils he could feel the strain, but it was fairly minimal. He could float with them for hours before he really began to feel like he needed to rest. Time control, however, took a lot more out of him.
It took only a minute or two before Juka began to feel the energy from his body going from himself into his bubble and from his bubble into the plant inside the bubble. He couldn't really describe exactly what it felt like, except for a pulling sensation combined with a large amount of physical exertion. As the minutes ticked by the feeling of exertion got stronger. It didn't feel as if he needed to sleep, he wasn't even sure it was possible to sleep any more, but was more of a total body exhaustion, as if he was running a long race and needed to sit down and rest.
Juka wasn't certain how long he stood there, concentrating on the plant and willing it to grow. He smiled at Kai at the mention of his power working and, by that time, was even able to see a small change in the plant. Finally, the flowers on the plant began to burst into bloom and he grinned before dropping his bubble. "My dear Kai, I think I've done it!" Triumph in his voice but also exhaustion. He was pretty sure that he would need a bit of time to rest before returning home. Hopefully Kai woudln't mind too terribly much.
Juka laughed with Kai, glad to see that he was feeling like himself again. Not that he blamed him after the rather lovely view that was Lori. Even Juka, experienced lover of many beautiful people that he was, hadn't been entirely immune from her rather prominent charms.
"Three feet will fit in my main bubble," Juka answered. It was a little large to fit in a mini bubble meaning the bubble would disappear once it got to be a certain size. Although he wasn't really sure how fast plants like that tended to grow or how much time Kai wanted to devote to their growing, so it might end up not even being an issue. He wasn't certain how fast his own power worked, exactly, but he knew he certainly couldn't grow a tree in any reasonable period of time, that was for certain.
Juka walked over to the plant and bubble both it and himself and began thinking thoughts of fast growing. He still wasn't absolutely positive how his time control thingy worked, but thinking strongly seemed to do the trick in the past. "Now I think we just have to wait," he informed Kai. Hopefully this would work.
Kai really was positively adorable. Whatever girl Juka found for him would be lucky indeed to have such a sweet boyfriend as he knew the plant man would make. "A human goddess, silly," he helpfully clarified for the confused and befuddled teenager. Giving him a moment to collect himself seemed like a good idea and, was expected, given a couple of minutes he did exactly that. Positively adorable.
Sweeping away the last of the debris, Juka looked around and decided he was satisfied with the progress made. It might not be perfect but at least he didn't need to feel guilty all over again about the state that he left the place in.
"Oh, I didn't think to bring a plant of my own," Juka answered sheepishly. He knew he had forgotten something when he left his apartment in the morning. "I just, uh, guess I was hoping you had some plants just lying around..." Maybe he should have thought that through a little more thoroughly. He pointed at a plant with not yet bloomed buds on it, small enough to fit in one of his bubbles. It had a little sign on it stating that it was a hydrangea. "Would that work?"
As Alex began explaining his own lingual experience, Juka had a sudden epiphany. "I have a wonderful idea!" He grinned at Alex, his enthusiasm showing in both voice and expression. "Who needs Finnish when there's Spanish in the world? I'm sure there are plenty of fascinating Spanish countries. And you, my dear man, are in need of some Japanese lessons. Therefore, I propose a trade: Spanish lessons in exchange for Japanese lessons!" It seemed a brilliantly simple solution that would not only teach Juka a new and interesting language leading to visiting a new and interesting place, but would also allow both himself and Alex a chance to practice their native tongues.
Juka could see by his expression that Alex was a little confused by his excitement at the prospect of creating a storm. "When you have a floating bubble, storms are like the best roller coaster ever," he tried to explain. It was, perhaps, one of those things better experienced that spoken about, however and he wasn't certain just how well his explanation got across. He tried to clarify. "I just let the wind take control of my bubble and it pretty much creates the ride on its own." Maybe not much better of an explanation, but it was the best he had at that exact moment. Maybe he'd be able to show it off sometime later.
"Powers get better with practice," Juka offered the advice to Alex. Admittedly he knew pretty much nothing about the weather, probably even less than both since his bubble made it almost entirely irrelevant, but he did know a little something about mutant powers. It wasn't just his own powers either, which he knew from experience practice made better, but the powers of others too. He also knew, however, that no matter how much one practiced one couldn't simply 'learn' the powers of others. He would know. He'd tried. And failed. Completely. To this day he still couldn't turn into an amazing flying griffin.
Juka waved at Lori, grinning all the while, as she exited the little flower shop. That taxi driver was certain to be in for quite the ride home and he just wished he had a camera to see the faces of her co-workers. Judging by Kai's reaction, it probably wasn't a moment too soon to have her leave. The poor kid was tangled all over himself. Yes, that just reinforced that fact that he must find Kai a proper girlfriend. Or at least a girl to show him the ins and outs of the female form.
"Kai, my darling, you are going to have to come out with me some night very soon and I will get you you're own person goddess. Its a promise." Because if there was one thing that Juka did, it was take care of his friends.
"We were going to grow some plants," Juka suggested helpfully, continuing to sweep away the mess. Poor Kai's shop, it certainly had become a disaster zone in rather short order.
"But its easier to learn other languages if you all ready know more than one, so I guess that means I'm half way there, right?" Maybe the logic wasn't quite the most sound, but it made sense in Juka's head if nowhere else. "I want to learn Finnish so that I can go visit Finland, of course." Didn't that fact seem perfectly obvious? Why else would he need to learn an obscure European language if not to go visiting an obscure European country?
"Why, of course it was Japanese," Juka agreed, beaming. It was a shame, though, that the man didn't appear to actually speak the language of his birth. So few did around there and he always enjoyed a chance to converse in his native tongue. "Spanish sounds like a lovely language to know. Maybe I'll learn it after I'm done learning Finnish and go visit some place in South America. I hear the rain forests are beautiful." One of the advantages in knowing you would live forever is that it was possible to make plans like that. If he had eternity then he may as well use it towards something fun like learning new languages.
"Don't be so modest," Juka scolded, though the scolding was done with a casual grin so as to not be taken completely seriously. "I happen to know plenty of people who would love to be able to control the weather." Even if they hadn't specifically told him as much, it sounded like an awesome power so he was sure it was true. "Does that mean you can make storms?" The hope was obvious in his voice. There was nothing quite so entertaining as a bubble ride in the middle of a wind storm.
I've been a bit slow with threads also. I offer you a Juka for some posting if you'd like. He's not much for either killing or maiming, but if you'd like a colourful cross dresser then he's you're man for sure
All that mattered to Juka was the safety of the little girl in his possession. Well, that and despite the violent and inexcusable actions of the crowd, he really didn't want any of them to die because of overzealous policing. He had heard the stories and seen the newscasts just like everyone else had, he knew it sometimes happened. So long as tear gas remained the worst of it, however, he was all right with the situation. More than all right, truth be told, since they had pretty much saved his life and the life of the little girl.
Despite knowing that he couldn't have done any other thing, Juka felt guilty for leaving Hunter behind. He kept telling himself that the vampire could take care of himself and that a little teargas wouldn't hurt him too much. He was an ageless nearly immortal vampire, wasn't he? Surely that meant he'd survive a little gassing. Even if it did make sense, however, that didn't make it any easier to deal with the guilt.
As soon as Juka had deposited the child safely beside the female officer he had spotted earlier with Hunter, he went back into the former mob, rather pleased to find it to be far less mob-like since the inclusion of the tear gas. He spotted a man with a gas mask assisting Hunter to a nearby area more or less bereft of the horrible gas and, even though the vampire seemed to be doing all right, he still couldn't help but hover nearby, just in case he was needed. "Do you need a hand?" He couldn't' just leave a friend to suffer when it would be just as easy to bubble him now that the child had all ready been brought to safety.
