MRO is an intermediate to advanced writing level original character, original plot X-Men RPG. We've been open and active since October of 2005. You can play as a mutant, human, or Adapted— one of the rare humans who nullify mutant powers by their very existence. Goodies, baddies, and neutrals are all welcome.

I'd been working on a list of possible changes to MRO to try and help. This list is my own personal considerations and is in no way an indication of what the mod team will eventually do (I only post it here to get feedback on my ideas).
I hadn't even considered expanding MRO beyond just mutants.After seeing the suggestion from Tempest it has jumped to the top of my list of changes I'm thinking about. My initial thought was that it would be very easy to add non-mutant powers to MRO that come from other science-based forms (radioactive animal bites, symbiotes, gamma ray exposure, etc.). The idea of adding magic in some form has been the thing that I keep going back to thinking about. The question being, how do we add it? Obviously we can use a plot to introduce, that's the easy part. How do we structure it so there is some level of constancy to it? Do we come up with a magic system to use or borrow heavily from some existing RP structure? Is it a more general system where magic characters can do a little bit of everything, can they only do a few things magically, or can they do a lot of one thing and a little of everything? With mutations we have it limited where all powers a character has are at least related to each other, is that how dive into magic and if so do we need a taken sorcery list to go with the taken mutation list?
As for plots I like what Tetsuya Shinbo suggested about limiting people some. If everyone who has multiple characters jumps into a plot with all their characters then they control the flow of the plot. This at best doesn't slow the thread(s) down but at worst can grind it to a halt if they have have a real life issue pop up for even a few days. If you can only have one or at most two characters in a plot then you can be a bit more easily skipped over for one round than if you have four or five in it (and even then, two might be one too many).
And I think a new plot is a great way to try and breath some life back into MRO. I remember how excited people were with the AV plot and how much activity there was. Lots of posting, lots of characters, lots of creative shenanery. Perhaps even a mini-plot to tide us over until a bigger plot can be kicked off (a bigger plot being the easy way to introduce more than just mutants into our own little universe). There was talk of a plot where characters are de-aged. That sounds like a plot that could be done "for teh lulz". That's how I did the Freaky Friday plot and I had a grand old time.
And a video is always welcome from you, Mirror Grey-Morris . They're always a real treat to see! Aside from that once activity has ticked back up some (which is appears to be doing even now) some kind of promotional or advertising campaign would be great.
My other ideas. I don't think they're all great ideas but ideas worth considering: 1. Taken mutation changes: The taken mutation list is great because it allows everyone to feel unique. It also could also prevent some people from joining who have an idea in their head they love but someone is on the site with a similar power. I'm not suggesting getting rid of the list, rather we reign in what constitutes an overlap. Instead of all fire creation powers being considered overlaps we distinguish between fire breathers, fireball fastball pitchers, living fireballs, and people who start fires at a distance with their minds. And so on. 2. Increase the power limit on MRO. Over the years the overall power that is allowed has gone down. A reverse power creep. In my opinion this allows for better roleplay as it means characters have more weaknesses or at least situations they can't solve alone. That said, a lot of people like the power fantasy that can be had with a mutant RP. Having a higher limit on powers means we have more plotting possibilities as we have a larger range powers can be in. People can play the mutant with a little power or the mutant with a lot, whichever they find the most fun. 3. Shake up the application process. Can some of the fields be removed or combined into other fields without losing how descriptive the application is when it graduates to a character profile?

Howdy MRO;
It is no surprise that MRO has been in a serious slump for a while now. Posting has all but ground to a halt and largely no one has been trying to join. We don’t want to see MRO die but we’re not sure how to go about breathing life back into the site. We do have ideas, but we want to hear the thoughts of those of you still around.
Please post anything you think could help boost activity or any changes you want to see in the site. We have hit a point where we can completely reinvent the site if we want so hit us with the brilliant, the strange, and the transformative.
We’re pleased to announce that we have a pair of shiny new mods! We found a few cents under the Discord’s cushions and were able to scrounge up a few quarters to pick them up. All polished up with a healthy coat of Armor All we have Penguin and Ufgad !
There is also some other news. Sennyo and Neopolitan will be stepping down as mods. They’ve been serving as mods for a while now and it is sad to see them go. We have it on good authority they aren’t going anywhere, but life has made keeping up with their mod duties difficult.
We want to thank them for their service to MRO. Good job yall! Grab a cookie!
And please help us welcome our newest mods! Just be careful of their trim.

While all three options sound amazing, I think Ranger it'd be fun to have Ranger in the maze or haunted house.
Also, Panu Harmaajärvi , Rupert Kelley is always welcome as added security help! Were you thinking of having him do this as a one off or being a more permanent member of security? Ranger is the head of security for Haven is why I ask (his PMC is contracted as security and for black ops when needed).
The Concept: The RIP is here! A portal between two universes exists and an agreement reached between the two separate American governments has led to the access to and trade between the universes. Each day thousands of people cross and trade is conducted, resulting in millions of dollars in profits for corporations.
It was only a matter of time before factions in the twin New York Cities became involved and chaos erupted at the rip.
Everyone has their own aims for the rip. Maybe they want to use the rip to impose their own taxation or charge for protection, maybe they want to use the rip as a funnel for people to locate mutants, maybe they want to secure it against those interests. Whatever the goal, everyone wants the rip under their influence.
Conflicts at the rip will culminate in a stalemate where no group can achieve their own goals without the national guard being mobilized and the rip being put under military control.
In order to avoid that, a parley is called and a faction battle royale is proposed. To the victor goes the rip.
Okay, Spork, You Have My Attention. What Does This Mean?: As a plot-within-a-plot a battle royale would be organized by the faction leaders for control of the rip. Potentially not a true free-for-all, each faction might have a couple or three members involved in the fighting.
Players would be encouraged to play out their faction’s involvement at the rip. No part of the lead up to the battle royale will have to be played out IC. The sit down between the factions may also not be played out in detail.
The of the plot is to have an epic battle royale where the factions can have a chance to really slug it out against each other. While not every member of the faction would be able to be involved in the fighting itself, there are opportunities to be involved.
Everyone would start in one big thread, like the the RIP’s Hold on to Your Butts. From there players would be encouraged to split off into other threads and move from thread to thread as necessary. Other threads could run alongside these showing how other characters are supporting it. What this means would need to be determined. See next section. As there are many of us here who have the potential to cause large effects; weather changes, large explosions, wildfires, etc., there will be a thread which keeps track of all of these. The battle royale’s announcer so people at home can listen in or watch on tv.
I’m Sold! Where Do I Sign Up?: Hold your horses there, cowboy! There are still some kinks to work out so suggestions are welcome. We'll be contacting some members and leaders as representatives that will be invited to the parley in order to help tighten up the details. Be sure to let your local faction rep know if you want to punch a man.
How much of this will be played out needs to be discussed. The goal is to bring about the battle royale, so while we encourage players to thread pursuant to their factions interests, it may happen that there are no official threads leading up to the battle royale. This will largely depend on how much the faction leaders want to write in character in threads. We’re all busy people and our time is valuable.

Sounds Good, But Where Did This Genius Come From?:
Max, the player of Grav Bomb and Darwin is responsible for submitting the initial idea!
It had been the biggest thing on MyFace for weeks, a total supermoon eclipse visible from New York City! An event was thrown together, the “Flatiron Plaza Lunar Eclipse Food Festival.” Thousands had checked they would be attending and the food trucks had come out in force to feed them all. They were serving everything from the Vegetarian Delight Truck’s “Grilled Carrots” in honor of the rabbit who’s making mochi on the moon to assorted cheeses to MoonPies.
Madison Square Park was covered in people who had come out to observe the eclipse. It wasn’t every day, or even every decade you had the chance to see a total lunar eclipse, let alone one of a supermoon!
It should have been a joyous time for the city to come together and bond over their viewing of the rare celestial event. And it was, for a while. After the total eclipse was achieved a series of strong winds blew through the park. Gusting hard enough that people had to lean against it. Eventually a blast of air like from a large airburst explosive buffeted the park. People, carts, dogs, and pedicabs were thrown by the powerful wave-front.
At the epicenter of the blast of wind a hole in the universe shifted as if blown by a light breeze. Sirens circled as emergency responders headed to the scene.
The rip is here!
Characters who are within a block of the rip can be sucked through to the opposite universe. This is true for both MRO and AV universes. If you would like to have a character sent through the rip or show up in the aftermath go ahead and post here! Once you post you can edit the post to link us to the antics that follow in whatever thread you begin as a follow up (Please only one post per character). Maybe you go off and do a solo, maybe you find someone to double dutch with, or maybe you surprise us all and do something even wilder!
We know you’ve been excited for this day to come. Well here it is! We can’t wait to see what shenanery y’all have planned for this moment!
