The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It had been a slip-of-the-tongue that had led Chase to mention the schools’ resident superheros, and now Showstopper was intrigued. She asked if Chase knew the X-Men, and which ones he knew, if he did. Chase stared at her out the corners of his eyes, blatantly skeptical of Showstopper. She could work for a rival organization. He couldn’t betray the X-Men!
“Well… there’s Sam, and there’s Maya and Maya’s brother,” Chase said cryptically, his lips pressed together. He was also a junior X-man, but that wasn’t something you went around announcing. Also, it wasn’t official.
Then, Showstopper said that she was an X-Man too.
That’s when Chase knew…
Showstopper was a spy! Chases’ eyes thinned, “Nuh-uh. You’re Showstopper! I think I’d know if Showstopper was one of the X’s!”

Chase certainly proved that he had some knowledge of the X-Men, naming two of the team leaders, one of them twice. It was not surprising that Chase assumed Maya and Gawain were siblings; a boy his age had enough problems differentiating between fiction and reality without adding a gender-shifter into the mix. The curious case of Mirror would have to be explained to Chase when he was older.
Speaking of difficulty dealing with the reality-fiction divide, apparently Chase was refuting her claim of being an X-Man because of her identity... or at least the identity she was stuck in for about five more minutes. "Nae nae, Ah..." How the heck did she go about explaining herself without ruining his child-like illusions?
Then an idea arose that could solve the problem. Rebecca leaned in close and whispered into Chase's ear. "Keep it quiet, bit Showstopper is my secret identity's secret identity!" Hopefully that story was not too convoluted for a child like Chase.
Rebecca pulled away and leaned on the shelves of comics. "Why dornt we get you another comic and then Ah can gae change and you can see my real self?"

Showstopper began to protest, but then she paused, leaning in to divulge her secret. Chase paused, and stared blankly at her. That was immensely confusing, and it took a few moments for Chase to realize that he didn’t understand, and probably wouldn’t… so it’d be best to pretend, which was the easiest route for any hopelessly confused child.
“Oh,” Chase said, as if he understood, “That makes sense.”
Even if it didn’t make much sense at all. Chase slid closer to the shelf, retrieving a comic book issue that belonged to the Powers series.

Rebecca was not one-hundred percent sure her reasoning got through to Chase, but he was no longer accusing her of being a spy that infiltrated the X-Men, and that was good enough for her. Those accusations not only bothered her sense of pride and integrity, but at a loud enough volume, Chase was going to assure her the unwanted attention of the shop patrons.
The boy chose another Powers book, which was a logical choice for a fan of the series; no need to take a chance on something that would disappoint him. "That's great, honey. why dornt Ah gae and ring this up for you?"
After a surprisingly uneventful short skate to the register, Rebecca rang up Chase's first two purchases, accepting the young boy's payment, and handing back his three books. When he was not watching, she rang up the last book and slipped a five dollar bill into the register.
A look up to the clock would reveal that Rebecca's shift was (thankfully) over. Leaning over the counter, doing her best to conceal her chest with her arm, Rebecca asked, "If you wait a bit sae Ah can change, Ah'd feel safer walking home with a brave young man like you." Rebecca's main intentions involved talking more to the nice young boy and removing him from the custody of his pack of moronic friends.
Rebecca rushed into the back room, switching out of her costume (gladly) and slipping back into a more conservative blue blouse and jeans. It was convenient that she settled on the blue look that day, because after some aggressive scrubbing, it was clear that her eye makeup was going to remain on her face until she returned home and could take more time to remove it.
Walking out past the counter and to Chase, Rebecca tied her hair back into a ponytail in hopes of obscuring how matted down her hair was under her wig. "Ready tae go?"
Exiting the shop, Rebecca asked one of the obvious questions someone asked any Xavier's student. "Sae dae you have a super awesome mutation?"

Chase nodded and followed Showstopper to the cash register, sliding his comics onto the table. He pulled out the money he’d been given for the comics, and slid that up next to the books. She rang-up the books, and slid them back towards the child. Chase took the bag and tucked it into his backpack. After that was done, Showstopper leaned back over and addressed him.
>> "If you wait a bit sae Ah can change, Ah'd feel safer walking home with a brave young man like you."
Chase stared blankly at Showstopper, and gave a hesitant, “I don’t know if Mama would approve of me going home with a stranger.”
He was still learning the ways of the world, but the nine-year-old knew that going places with strangers wasn’t a good idea. But, the superhero was gone, so Chase ran back to his group.
“Showstopper wants me to walk with her,” Chase said hurriedly, “I dunno if I should go. I think she's a spy.”
The older boys shrugged and jostled each other, “Well, if you want to, man.”
“She’s a stranger!” Chase pointed-out, “Mama wouldn’t want me to go home with a stranger!”
“Dude, that’s not really Showstopper,” the artfully-spoken one informed him. This earned him an elbow to the ribs.
“I-it isn’t?” Chase murmured.
“Naw, man,” another boy interjected, “She’s… uh… she goes to our school. She’s with the X’s, but she… uh… works for Showstopper part-time. As a stand-in!”
“Like a secret identity’s secret identity?” Chase murmured.
“Uuuuuhh, yeah. Like that! She’s totally legit. Mama T would be fine if you went with her.”
Chase nodded. Just as he did, the pretend-Showstopper returned, this time with red hair and normal clothes.
>> "Ready tae go?"
Chase nodded, waving at his friends with a short, “See you at the Mansion.”
He walked uncertainly alongside the redheaded girl, wedging his hands into his pockets, and letting his gaze wander elsewhere.
>> "Sae dae you have a super awesome mutation?"
“It’s an okay mutation,” Chase answered. He didn’t think much of it, and he still wasn’t sure of this new girl, “I look like other people.”

Rebecca watched (or glared, depending on how you judged it) at the boys as Chase bid them farewell. There was no question that those bratty boys would steer clear of her in the halls the next time they came across her at the Mansion.
Chase gave Rebecca a very bare-bones description of his mutation. Rebecca had to work through the explanation first. Chase said he looked like other people, but looking at him, she assumed he was in Chase-shape, at least for the moment. Guessing that he was some kind of shape-shifter, she asked, "Dae you mean you can change shape? Like you coulds look like me if you wanted?" A power like that could be way more useful than magnetic control if used correctly, and the idea fascinated her. "That's definitely a super awesome one."
When asked for her name, she replied to the boy, "You can call me my name, of course. Ah'm Rebecca, sweetie."
Their walk had them on a quiet street, or at least as quiet as any get in New York. At the moment, there was no one around, so Rebecca decided to try her luck. "Um, coulds you maybe show me your power?"

The boy kept his hands wedged in his pocket as the-girl-formerly-known-as-Showstopper asked for clarification on Chase’s mutation.
“Yes,” Chase said simply, “I change shape.”
The pretend-Showstopper went on to ask if Chase could look like her, and the child merely nodded his head. He didn’t like where this interrogation was going. She said her name was Rebecca, and Chase reiterated her name quietly, committing it to memory.
They were momentarily quiet, as they strolled down the street side-by-side, and Rebecca voiced the age-old question that the child had grown well-accustomed to since moving to the Mansion. There was something about seeing themselves that mutants found absolutely amazing. Chase could never understand it, not at this age, anyways.
“I don’t know, it’s kinda gross,” Chase mumbled shyly, “My skin goes-“ Chase clasped his hands together, lacing his fingers before wiggling his hands opposite of one another, attempting to emulate the shifting tendrils, “It sounds like… crawling. And besides which, I need something from you for it to work.”
If the promise of it being gross didn’t sway her, then Chase might contemplate showing off. Possibly.

Chase seemed hesitant to use his power in front of her, but it seemed like his issue was concerning whether or not Rebecca could handle the sights and sounds of Chase's transformation into a copy of her. She could not really decipher what Chase meant with his hand-sign display, but she did understand the sound of crawling. Dating a girl who had insects living inside and often around her, Rebecca was quickly getting used to the sound of crawling.
Rebecca smiled to reassure Chase that he would not scare her off. "Ah'm not too easy tae gross out, sae if you're fine with it, Ah am too. It's probably better that we aren't in total plain view though." Rebecca lead them to a nearby bus stop. It was not fully enclosed, but it would obscure them from the vision of most passerbys. There was no need to risk some close-minded businessman watching a mutant become another mutant.
There was one stipulation Rebecca was not quite as sure of, but she was sure it would not be anything too outlandish. "Sae, what dae you need from me?"

Chase was led to the bus shelter as Rebecca assured him that it wasn’t easy to gross her out. The child surveyed the girl skeptically, his eyebrows arching at the redhead. She was a girl. Girls were supposed to get grossed-out by that kind of thing. Once they were beneath the bus shelter, Rebecca begged the next question—what did Chase need from her.
“Something that belongs to you,” Chase said simply, “Like… something that you have on a lot. That has a lot of—“ he didn’t really have the word to describe it, “Just, a lot of you-vibes. Nothing that a lot of people have been around for the same amount of time.”

The request was reasonable enough; Chase just needed something Rebecca had on her a lot. There was no request for hair or skin or blood, so there was no reason to get too uncomfortable.
Rebecca thought about the thing she was wearing. She was not going to just give away her blouse, and she CERTAINLY was not going to give away her jeans. The idea of giving away a shoe would leave her awkwardly unbalanced. Finally, Rebecca remembered her bangles; the bracer-like metal bands she wore on her wrists constantly.
Rebecca removed her right bangle and placed it on Chase's wrist. "Daes this work?"

The girl quickly slid off a large metal bracelet and slid it onto the child’s arm, asking if it would work. Already, her residue was tingling up the child’s arm and begging him to start the shift. Chase shivered slightly, trying to hold the shift back in a stubborn sort of way. How bad could her mind be? She went to Xavier’s. She couldn’t be scary like Locke’s mama had been.
“It works,” Chase avowed, touching the bracelet hesitantly. The shifter looked at his feet, looked at the pretend-Showstopper, and then cleared his throat. The change began to take hold—
It began at his arm, his skin starting to crawl as the tendrils contorted in a wave. His skin grew a few tones paler, the freckles became more numerous, and his limbs began to stretch. In a matter of seconds, the petite child that now stood before Rebecca had transformed into her red-blond doppelganger, complete with the mismatched eyes.
Chase looked down at his new outfit, which was a replication of Rebecca’s, and was met by the zipper-breaking bust. The doppelganger wobbled slightly subconsciously filing through the tidbits of information that ran through its head.

The process was quick, but Rebecca instantly realized what Chase was trying to describe with his hands. There were tendrils rippling across his body, shifting him from the small little boy to the moderately-sized, wide-hipped teen Rebecca was. After the short transformation, Rebecca felt like she was looking into a mirror, except the mirror was not reversed and made a tangible copy and really was not a mirror at all.
The point was, she was looking at another Rebecca.
"Wicked..." she muttered softly. "This is amazing, Chase." And it was; it was weird, and a little unsettling, but amazing nonetheless. (S)he was perfect down to the last detail, from the skin to the eyes to the clothes she was wearing.
Rebecca walked around Chase!Rebecca to survey herself like she had just found a display mannequin copy of her. Forgetting for a moment how awkward it probably was, Rebecca caught a glimpse of her (copy's) butt in her (copy's) jeans. "Huh. Ah guess mah bottom's nae that flat," she muttered. Maybe she had unwittingly discovered some butt-boosting exercises in her regiment!
Rebecca finally realized that she was absent-mindedly objectifying both herself and Chase at the same time. Blushing lightly, she added, "Um, sorry. Let's go?" She changed the topic quickly, leading chase out of the bus stop booth and back onto the sidewalk. There was something novel about the idea of walking home with her brand new twin. Silently, she hoped Chase would not mind remaining as her a bit longer.
"Sae... how daes it feel? Being me?" It was a weird question, but how was it possible not to be curious about it?

The doppelganger tilted its mismatched gaze towards the original, smiling wanly. At the moment, it was still Chase in mind, but Rebecca in form—this would gradually change as Chase remained looking like Rebecca for longer and longer. The Original Rebecca surveyed her doppelganger appreciatively, through which the twin remained silent, spare a faintly accented, “Thank you.”
As per the butt comment, the doppelganger laughed at the absurdity of the observation. The nine-year-old mind that was gradually slipping into a more teenage mindset found butt-oriented observations to be comedic gold, even if it was about the shape of a butt. Butts were funny things. But, the teenage rationale made the doppelganger fall reverently silent as Rebecca circled back around
>> "Um, sorry. Let's go?"
“As you?” the twin inquired, an amused but polite lilt at the end of its tone. The real Rebecca was already leading her twin away, though, as the inquiry was voiced, so Chase took that as a yes. He willed the too-long legs to walk, stumbling slightly as he tried to grow accustomed to the new form. Rebecca was a few inches over a foot taller than him, which meant there was some need to practice walking as someone that tall. Her legs weren’t familiar, so the doppelganger, might have looked like it was walking on a sore ankle with how gingerly it stepped.
>> "Sae... how daes it feel? Being me?"
“Tall,” the twin answered genuinely, “And uneven.”
The vague, latter part of the observation was in reference to now having a chest, and the twin’s gaze dropped towards its chest in emphasis, before lifting back up and looking at the original Rebecca.
“And my head feels heavy.”
That was in reference to the longer hair which, shockingly, always felt heavy if it was longer than Chase’s.
“I’ve only been a girl once,” the doppelganger said matter-of-factly, “Mama wanted to see how my power worked.”

Rebecca was resisting the urge to giggle as they started coming across other people once more. The two girls(?) were receiving looks from various passerbys, most likely because they were dressed identically, which was probably weird etiquette for identical twins.
>> “Tall. And uneven.”
It was odd to think of herself as "tall," but to the young boy, she definitely was by comparison. The uneven comment initially confused Rebecca, until she looked back at Chasebecca and noticed what part of her body (s)he was glancing at. "Oh." Quickly followed by, "Oh!" and a blush. It must have been an odd sensation for a young boy to adjust to the new presence on his chest, and similarly with the addition of long, voluminous strawberry locks on his head.
>> “I’ve only been a girl once. Mama wanted to see how my power worked.”
Rebecca was a bit confused; the councilor at the school was well known by the nickname "Mama T," so she had to ask for a little clarification. "Dae you mean your Mama or Mama T?"
The two Rebeccas came to an intersection where they would have to cross the street. Even if Chase looked like Rebecca, he was still a little kid. Rebecca reached for her hand's counterpart which was shoved into her jean pocket's counterpart. "You've gotta hold my hand 'fore we cross th' street. Safety first," she commanded, oblivious to the new confused stares she was receiving.

>> "Dae you mean your Mama or Mama T?"
The doppelganger tilted its head in mild confusion. It had heard its mother called Mama T before, because its mommy was the school’s mommy, so Chase often had to share her with the other kids. Or perhaps the real Rebecca meant, his mother, also known as Mama T? That made a lot more sense, to Chase.
“Yep!” Rebecca’s twin chirped lightly, “She’s my mommy.”
The change began to take-hold mentally whilst they walked, information churning in the doppelganger’s head. Its name was Rebecca Grey, and it was nineteen years old. Rebecca attended Xavier’s, and she dated Agnes… “Chase” pushed back stubbornly, concerned with potentially losing his self to the older students. Last that this had happened, it had not turned out well. They were approaching an avenue, and the original turned to address Chase, trying to grab an artfully-pocketed hand.
>> "You've gotta hold my hand 'fore we cross th' street. Safety first,"
The doppelganger arched an eyebrow at the original Rebecca, leaning back to survey her.
“But Rebecca—“ Chase began to protest, “That’s silly.”
