The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Five minutes.
Rebecca was only five minutes late! Akshay's methods of punishment had to qualify as cruel and unusual! Regardless of how he explained it, there was no way there was only one costume left for her.
Besides being an obvious gift to comic fashion from the eighties, there were two more glaring issues Rebecca had with her costume. The first were the roller skates: a form of transportation Rebecca was not yet accustomed to, resulting in the girl gliding in straight lines until she found a new surface to push off from.
The second was the...exposure of the outfit. The zipper on the front only came up so high, and even when she did her best to zip it to the top (which would still show ample cleavage,) the moment she started moving, it would unzip back down below her chest (and turning cleavage into sideboob.)
The outfit accomplished what the superheroine set out to do: grab attention. Unfortunately, Rebecca did not share this goal. Even the things she liked about the costume (like the blue makeup around her eyes) did not make up for the problems. The suit was not even properly designed for her; whoever it was originally for lacked Rebecca's hips, that was for darn sure. (Oh look, a third problem.)
Rebecca had made it through most of her shift without falling over or popping out, which was where her measure of "success" had managed to fall. At the moment, the zipper was drawn up, and she was doing her utmost not to stretch in a way that would upset the fickle mechanism. Carefully adjusting her blonde wig with one hand, Rebecca was sitting up on the counter which would usually be against the rules, but anyone who would quote the rules at her after her day would enjoy a roller-skated kick in the face.

The comic book shop had become one of Chases’ haunts, though often he didn’t come here with Gemma—it was the older boys that allowed Chase to tag along, and the older boys who were chaperoning him now. Not that it did much good—just like last time, the moment they were in through the door, the boys scattered, leaving the nine-year-old to his own devices. Chase bee-lined towards where his books were kept—now was the time of month that the new volumes should be out, and Chase was eager to make that purchase. He’d saved up just enough to buy them, thus he grabbed his two books, and bolted for the front counter—
Only to nearly collide into the backs of no less than three of his older cohorts.
“Dude, would you check-out that cosplay?” one the guys murmured.
“That chick is hot,” a second one chimed-in. Chase peered around them at the girl in the white suit, scrunching his nose in scrutiny. He was still of the mindset that girls were gross.
“You should talk to her,” the third said to one of the first, “Ask her out?”
“Dude, I can’t do that!” the first argued. They were whispering amongst each other, and however quiet they were, it didn’t take a genius to tell what (or who) they were talking about. The hushed conversation continued, and Chase hazarded another glance, before ducking back into the crowd.
“I think her zipper’s broken!” the child announced, his voice undeniable.
“Duuuude,” the guys gasped, one of them pushing Chase’s shoulder and the other covering his mouth, “Don’t say stuff like that.”
Chase licked the older boy’s hand, earning a gasp of disgust and an instant release.
“But it is!” the nine-year-old protested. This time, he earned laughs, but only because he had scrambled out of the reach of the older boys and they couldn't rope Chase in to muffle his observations. Out of the mouths of babes, oft time came gems.

Rebecca's long day was wearing down her mind, leaving her zoned out staring forward. In her head, she was already back at the mansion, possibly treading water in the pool with the girls. Trading in her jumpsuit for a swimsuit offered less coverage, but infinitely more comfortable and out of the eyeshot of strangers.
Unfortunately, when one of the other girls rang up an order on the register next to her, Rebecca's dream world crashed into her reality. "Wake up, hun," she heard from Lexi beside her, giggling. "You aren't out of the woods yet. It's customer time."
Indeed, more customers had walked through the door Rebecca was absently staring at for the past two minutes. The group of boys was familiar for the most part, or at least the older boys. The younger boy was not familiar to her, and was especially out of place with his own crowd.
Rebecca could hear selected words from the mumbled conversation between the gaggle of guys, including the words "chick" and "hot." She could feel her cheeks pinkening and the hushed compliments, but thankfully, much of her blushing was concealed by her blue makeup.
>> “I think her zipper’s broken!”
No amount of make-up was going to cover up the blush resulting from the youngest boy's louder comment. Why could Showstopper just have a zipper that went all the way up her chest?
Rebecca had to provide some customer service if she expected to get paid. The youngest boy's comment was... unexpected, but he was obviously too naive to have meant it as anything other than an innocent observation. He would probably be easier to deal with than the boys who were old enough not to mind their eyes and comments.
Carefully Rebecca slid off the counter and her skates clattered on the floor. She pushed off the counter so she could glide in a straight line toward the group. She rested a hand on the youngest boy's shoulder as a covert means of stopping herself. "Hey honey, can Ah help you at all?" American accents were hard.

The guys laughed, and made another swipe at Chase, attempting to grab him and tuck him into a playful headlock. By virtue of his diminutive size, Chase was able to duck out of the way. The hushed chastising gave way to raucous laughter and more noticeable teasing and shouts. The guys were getting rowdier, and as such, beginning to egg each other on. If so-and-so would just talk to the girl in the costume, ask for her number, ask her out—
“Dude, maybe we should send Chase over there, since he keeps talking about the broken zipper,” one of the entourage suggested. There were some faint chuckles, and hushed agreements.
“But it is,” Chase hissed indignantly. This only earned more chuckles, but all murmurs went silent as the costumed girl approached. She hobbled over on the skates, coasting towards them before using Chase to regain some form of balance. Chase fidgeted and blushed. A girl was touching him—he was going to get a disease… the cootie virus. Chase did his best impression of a statue as the girl with the broken zipper addressed the boys.
>> "Hey honey, can Ah help you at all?"
Chase managed to shake his head minutely, and gave a mumbled, “No.”
The older boys, fortunately enough, covered for him—one of the more audacious young men of the group chimed in.
“My friend was wondering if you’re single,” the boy said fluidly, putting on his best smile. Chase squirmed, while the interrogation continued, but not noticeably so, “And if he could have your number.”
Yes, Chases' older friends were quite the charmers.

It could have been Rebecca's imagination, but when her hand made contact with the young boy, she could have sworn his body became immediately tense. She wondered what might have caused the reaction, since she found it impossible to see herself as intimidating. At first, she wondered if he was bracing for impact, but even after she had stopped, he was still rigid as rock, quietly declining her offer of assistance.
>> “My friend was wondering if you’re single, and if he could have your number.”
It took a hefty sum of willpower to refrain from rolling her eyes. When she began her employment at The One Comic Shop, she was surprised any time someone asked for her number, because she had no experience being hit on, but as the months passed, the novelty wore off quickly.
It was still Rebecca's job to remain polite and to some extent in character, so she replied, "Ah'm sorry sweetie, bit Ah dornt think my girlfriend'll like me passing out my number." That reply had over a sixty-percent success rate in ending these awkward interactions, so she waited to see how well it would work in this instance.

Chase arched his eyebrows at his friend’s inquiry—he wanted to be the girl’s boyfriend? Why? Girls were gross. Chase fidgeted slightly, the feeling of the girl still latched onto his shoulder making him restless.
The girl fluidly turned-down the request, with the excuse that her girlfriend wouldn’t like her passing her number out. Chase grinned—girls were like that. They made sure that other girls who were their friends didn’t fraternize with boys, thereby keeping them safe from cooties. So, obviously, she would turn down Chase’s friend’s request.
Yet, Chase’s friend persisted, and gave a casual, “Your girlfriend doesn’t even want you talking to other people?”
Yeah, he couldn’t take “no” for an answer. While the friend who was hitting on the costumed girl was less than astute, one of the more observant male cohorts was staring contemplatively at the girl with the garish make-up, blond wig and low-cut top, as if trying to pick through the guise. His eyes widened slightly, and he let out a shout of alarm, using a word with which Chase was not familiar.
“Oh ----,” he gasped, “Guys, you know who this is!?”
“…Showstopper?” Chase hazarded a guess.
“No,” the other boy gasped, “Dudes, this is Rebecca! Rebecca from school!”
The realization triggered a domino effect of gasps, “oo’s” and more words with which Chase was not familiar, and would probably be reprimanded for using if he happened to say such words at the dinner table.
“Dude, don’t even bother,” one of the guys encouraged the boy who was persistently trying to get Rebecca’s number, “She’s dating Agnes. Do you want those creepy-crawlies going after you?”

Rebecca listened on to the barely whispered conversation the boys had when her identity dawned on them. After some straining of her memory, the boys seemed vaguely familiar; possibly younger students from the Mansion. When one of them mentioned Agnes and her bugs, that drove the point home. Only fellow students and mutants would know about her girlfriend's insect collection.
>> “Agnes? I know Agnes! She’s nice.”
Rebecca was glad to see all hope was not lost for the youngest boy, who was probably another younger student. He was innocent of the older boys' crimes, and if he like Agnes, he was probably an alright kid. "She sure is, sweethert."
Rebecca looked at the two books in the boy's hands. "Is this what you want tae buy? There's a buy-two-get-one free deal if you want me to help you pick one out!" There was no such deal, but Rebecca thought the kid was cute and sweet enough that she would buy him a gift for not being like his buddies.
She patted his shoulder, "C'mon, let's take a look."
Before going off with Chase, (assuming he would come along with her,) she looked over her shoulder to his friends, losing her sweet smile. "An' if you know who Ah am, Ah hope you realize Agnes isnae the only one you can worry about if you run those stupid mouths of yours." Rebecca did not threaten people often, but she thought she handled it pretty well with Agnes's good name as motivation.

It would seem that Chase had chosen the right words, and thereby found favor with Agnes’s girl-friend. Chase’s observation earned him an agreement and even a kind “sweetheart”. Chase grinned and hugged his two books to his chest.
>> "Is this what you want tae buy? There's a buy-two-get-one free deal if you want me to help you pick one out!"
Chase looked down at the books in his arms, then up at the girl before him, gaping, “There is?! Wow, that’s great! Thanks!”
The older boys began to protest, but Chase was already getting shooed away before he could hear his cohorts calling the costumed girl out. It was a good deal, though Chase was relatively certain that a comic-book character would be biased towards their own book.
Chase beamed as he was ushered away, pausing as the costumed girl addressed Chase’s group. She seemed pretty annoyed, even from so far away.
“Showstopper, are you coming?” Chase inquired. He might have heard the name “Rebecca” dropped somewhere, but so long as the girl was in the costume, she’d be Showstopper.

>> “Showstopper, are you coming?”
Rebecca grinned, pleased for some reason that Chase was referring to her in character. "Yup, coming!" There was something mysterious and intriguing about taking on the role of an "actress," and masking her identity. Maybe some of that thrill helped motivate her to join the X-Men in the first place, though she hoped the decision mostly arose from the desire to better the world.
After three very careful gliding strides, Rebecca caught up with Chase. She kept her hand on his shoulder, (once again, half-nurturing and half-balancing) as they came to the wall of books. "Sae what kind of books are you interested in?" The girl had not gotten a good enough look at Chase's selections, so she would let him give her an idea of what to possibly suggest.

Chase waited until the blond caught-up with him, at which point in time, the girl fastened onto his shoulder for balance. The child fidgeted minutely, but when Chase realized he wasn’t going to shake her that easily, the child gave-in and tottered his way towards the wall of comics, surveying them inquiringly.
>> "Sae what kind of books are you interested in?"
Chase paused, and gave a faint “um” after the question was asked. It wasn’t a difficult question, but it was kind-of a silly one to ask. What did she mean, what kind of books did he like. Chase shifted his weight faintly, before giving a genuine reply.
“Comic books,” he quipped. There was no lilt in his tone that implied he was trying to be sassy. His reply was candid, and by no means sarcastic.

Chase's answer was... unhelpful at best. At the very least, it was obvious by his tone that he was answering honestly, with every belief that his answer was valid and what Rebecca was looking for with her question. Chase was not a brat; he was just... young. Rebecca would not fault him for that. Not many people could get away with being adorable and unhelpful, but it could be given to Chase.
Rebecca bent down, trying to get closer to eye-level with Chase. As with every other time she had moved her body too noticeably, the zipper slid from her the middle of her chest to an inch below it without Rebecca picking up on it right away.
"Well yeah, comic books makes sense," she assured, wanting Chase to feel like his answer was not wrong. "Well then, do you have a specific superhero you like? Or maybe hero teams? Or even certain types of stories?" She stopped her list of suggestions there; she had no desire to overload Chase with options.

Chase nodded his head. It did make sense. That’s why he said it. As Showstopper pressed for details, Chase nodded his head. Oh yes, he had comics that he followed very closely. He held up the two comics in his arms in a very helpful fashion, the two that he followed quite religiously.
“Mr. Akshay gave me this one, it’s Slaggathor,” Chase said proudly, all smiles as he shifted to the other comic, a more mainstream work, “And this is Powers. I read it a lot.”
Chase turned to look at Showstopper, who was lingering over his shoulder, and was greeted by her chest. The child stared for an impolite span of a few seconds, realized that he was staring (and that staring was probably not the right thing to do). There was a momentary inward floundering, a faint coloring of cheeks, and Chase looked away, focusing intently on the bookshelves in front of him. For the rest of the shopping excursion, he could not look at Showstopper, no matter what. The fine art of giving female superheroes sexy costumes was lost on the child, and led him only to think that such costumes were grossly impractical.
Chase spoke to Showstopper in low tones, as if divulging some deep secret to her, “I know some people who know some people who need superhero costumes, and they could probably fix yours. Your superhero-costume-maker didn’t give you a very good zipper.”
Chase was discretely referencing the X-Men, whose members had zippers on their outfits that didn’t malfunction like Showstopper’s zipper.

Rebecca scanned the two covers, recognizing both series; as Chase pointed out, Akshay liked suggesting Slagathor, and she had even flipped through it before. As for Powers, anyone in the shop could tell you it was one of the staples in the mainstream market.
It took a moment for Rebecca to process what Chase was say regarding her zipper. She finally look down to see about half of her chest's surface area on display. Flustered, Rebecca stood upright, fumbling around with her zipper. "Oh nae, it's fine. It's jist--"
Rebecca's attempt to pull the zipper caused it to snap, the slider off and between her fingers, useless. Great, my boobs broke th' zipper. The one saving grace was that Rebecca's shift was nearing its end. "Well, now it's broken, bit Ah'm fine," Rebecca assured the boy, folding an arm over her chest. "Sae you have friends with superhero costumes?" she asked, changing the subject.

Chase dared to look up again, this time the girl had folded her arms to hide the fact that her zipper was a horrible, awful zipper. Chase couldn’t help the giggle that rippled from him, covering his face.
Well, now she really needed a new zipper. What had Chase told her? Big kids never listened.
“I know some people, who know some people who need superhero costumes,” Chase corrected, nodding his head, “And the X’s—“ he stopped. Oh, that was top-secret, “—they probably have their own personal costume designers, and they could make your costume much better than that, Showstopper.”

Rebecca was shocked to hear Chase name-drop the Xes, though there was really no reason to be that surprised since he was a child of the Mansion. Why would he not know an X-Man or two?
"Sae you know X-Men? Which ones?" At that point, Rebecca knew at least most of the team to some extent.
Excited by the prospect that she could be honest, Rebecca leaned down, ignoring her hanging chest. "Wanna know a secret? This is jist a disguise; Ah'm really an X-Man, too."
