The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Calley was glaring at Syn in sort of an off-handed, no-I'm-not-glaring-at-you, I-just-happen-to-be-making-unfriendly-faces-in-your-direction sort of way. Back when he was a cat, he'd always thought the woman was ignoring his existence. He'd written this off to the whole "being a cat" thing. But now... well, last time he checked, he was lookin' human. But he got the impression that Syn didn't even know he was there. Point in case: he was almost directly next to her, and she wasn't even glancing at him. It was too bad he wasn't the sort to randomly stab people. 'Cause he could so randomly stab her right now. She wouldn't even know who hit her.
...Calley liked it when people acknowledged his existence. Was that too much to ask? Pfft. Apparently. So he kind of glared at her, and thought unhappy thoughts about if-he-was-an-enemy-who-stabbed-people, and glowered at the world in general, and felt very calm, and really, why was it such a big deal?
Woah. Woah woah woah. Where had that come from? Then again, why did it matter? Obviously, he was just overreacting to--
Calley did a little somersault over the back of the car, ending up sitting next to the Twins and shaking his head. Within a few breath's time, he felt a lot more glowery, and less unexplained-calm. "Umm," he said, hooking a thumb behind him towards Horus, "I see what you mean. Mood swing, much?" But seriously, where had that random calmness...?
...Hunter had warned him about this. Calley stood up, and peeked suspiciously over the car top at Horus and Syn. Mostly Syn. He couldn't rule out Horus' involvement... But Hunter had warned him about Syn. To be more specific, Hunter had warned him that Syn had--what was it, again?--'some sort of ability to persuade you to her way of thinking'. And it was his mission to figure out exactly how that ability worked. Something with proximity, apparently--either that, or he'd just been caught up in her attack on Horus 'cause she didn't realize he was in the way. ...Calley glowered a little bit more. And then he said to the Twins: "Hey, is she going to be okay with that guy? She's awfully close to Mister Stabby Blade there. She got any way to protect herself, or should we be ready to step in and stop her li'l communion with god?" Yep, he was fishin' for info on her power. Could you blame a mission-bound fellow?

Echo squeaked a bit, and crawled down to hide underneath Vibe's hair, near her ear. The little brown bat was unusually uneasy, and it seemed that this Horus was the source. As the man... god... creepy person.... began to calm under Syn's gaze, the bat cloud started to take up position in various nearby roosts. Their wings continued to rustle, sounding like a light breeze, punctuated by a random squeak every now and then.
It became very quickly obvious that Syn had hooked Horus's full attention.
>Looks like God just fell for the Devil,< Vibe snickered. Amp bit her lip, trying not to laugh out loud.
Though her eyes were still closed, Amp saw the boy on top of the car do a little flip that landed him next to them.
"Hey, is she going to be okay with that guy? She's awfully close to Mister Stabby Blade there. She got any way to protect herself, or should we be ready to step in and stop her li'l communion with god?"
Vibe gave him a look that said, 'And you are...?' A moment later Amp spoke up and said, "If he's a god, then I'm the Queen of Canada." She noted warily that the other girl was headed in their direction. "And the only one I'd be worried about right now is Bright Eyes over there," she replied to his question. Then a devilish little smirk crossed her lips. "Of course, if you feel like playing the hero and step between 'em, don't let us stop you."
The statement was almost a challenge. The Twins would have loved to see that. Unless the scrawny kid was a hulk in disguise, or even if he was, him stepping between Syn and Horus would have proved extremely entertaining....
"An Egyptian God of the sun and moon huh? That's very impressive." The girl smiled at the man. "My name is Syn and I'm wondiering why a God is using a mutant for transportation." Her tone was still very calm and soothing. Aided by her pheremones it was working to her surprise on this new arrival. She wasn't sure if it was affecting the mutant host or if she was influencing both the mutant and the God. Naturally she elected for the latter.
Syn heard the boy and the twins talking as she wasn't far from them. The boy had asked the girls if they thought Syn would be ok with this mutant who claims to be a God or they thought they should jump in. She didn't hear the twins express any concern for the black and red haired girl. Maybe the battle at KP had shown them that Syn was very capable of handling things.
Kitra smirked, somehow this Syn character had gotten the 'God's attention. Which was really, really good. She walked in a large circle around Syn and Mandain/Horus, ending up by Calley and the redheaded twins. She had heard Calley say something about if Syn would be alright, at the moment Syn seemed to be doing just fine.
Kitra looked up and around, 'humans are so nosy. I suppose its somewhat lucky that he darkened the sun. It seems to be an eclipse....Hmm, I don't think I will need my katana anymore.' The katana in her hand faded away. She then moved next to Calley and smirked. "You are so going to get it little brother." Kitra whispered this with a hint of friendly malice and was chuckling inwardly, knowing this would get even better with his response. She kept her main attention focused on the two people speaking in front of her. One never knew what could go wrong.
Before she could lock her attention back to the two in front of her, she swore that she saw something. Within the shadows there seemed to be someone? She couldn't really tell for sure, but they seemed to be a different color then usual humans. Another mutant eh? The more the merrier, Kitra thought then smacked herself mentally. I really hope this ....person isn't an enemy....really really hope. I haven't fully recovered from that attack a few nights ago and training with Hunter...

Calley
Calley flashed a grin at Amp. “As a loyal subject to your Majesty, my place is, sadly, behind this car. If that should prevent me from heroics... Alas, my duty is served.”
Calley looked up innocently at Kitra as she approached. If anything, that whisper of hers in his ear only made him look more innocent. In fact, he was fairly radiating innocence all over a five-foot radius. “I do something wrong, Sis?” Running towards the laughter was, clearly, too entertaining to be wrong. Silly big sister. He turned back to watchin’ Syn and Mister Egyptian God Man. Just for fun, and because he was in the habit of playing with her... he used Grumpy’s head as a resting spot for his elbow. His innocent elbow.
((ooc: In this thread, writing in this color is by Abyss. The posts were deleted; I’ve reposted them with his permission.))
Abyss leaned up against a wall, how had he gotten here again. oh, yes. His sister and the twins were going out and he had insisted on coming because all three of them were trouble and had a knack for finding it, and here he was looking on count them one, two, three, four, five, six mutants. The sky was black with an out of the ordinary eclipse, and filled with bats, the ground was cracked and had ten or so giant beetles crawling around. His sister was chatting with a "god" and he couldn't find a reason why he thought they might get through the night without some un-normality. it was only a matter of time before something went wrong and he would be fighting someone, for now he leaned happily against a brick wall happily secluded in the shadows.
Horus was still being seduced by the woman her pheromones. He couldn't think clear, but wasn't resisting it, it felt to good to be true.
"An Egyptian God of the sun and moon huh? That's very impressive." She smiled. "My name is Syn and I'm wondering why a God is using a mutant for transportation."
Horus thought about the question while behind him the other girl was circling around them, and was moving to wards the car where the rest of the mutants sat.
"Yes, Sun and Moon, Resurrected in this body, strong, fast, my own body, gone," Horus looked down, a little tear drop had fallen from his eye's. He couldn't fly anymore, he missed the feeling of of the wind.
Horus looked up again seeing something move in the back of the alley, in the shadows, maybe his mind was playing tricks on him, or there was really something else then them. His attention was drawn back to Syn very fast again, the pheromones were certainly doing there job well."
"Ask I may, know you each other here?"
Horus smiled again seeing Syn. The scarabs around Horus started circling around Horus, they knew something was wrong with there master. Making there screeching sound they tried to pull Horus out of her control.

“As a loyal subject to your Majesty, my place is, sadly, behind this car. If that should prevent me from heroics... Alas, my duty is served.”
"You are so going to get it little brother."
“I do something wrong, Sis?” The kid then decided to use Vibe as an armrest. Her eyes narrowed as she turned to look at him, her eyes glowing. Amp snickered.
"You just did kid. Word to the wise, if you want to keep your hearing intact, you may want to find another elbow rest."
>Why'd you warn him? I was going to try out my new song.<
"You may still get a chance," Amp remarked quietly. While Bright Eyes may have been entranced with Syn, it seemed the scarabs were not. They were making an ugly racket and buzzing around, apparently trying to wake up their master. "Vibe, better set the bats on stand by. If they attack Syn, let 'em loose."
>On it.< A moment later the rustling from above again took flight, though it was only for a short moment. Over a hundred tiny eyes fixed themselves on the tiny group of buzzing inscects.
Leaving Vibe to listen to the conversation, Amp spread the echolocation a bit wider. From within the shadows another familiar figure made an appearance. Amp's grin widened. Now she was seriously considering starting some trouble on purpose, because with Abyss and his clones around, thing could really become chaotic.
And, of course, chaos was what the Twins thrived on.
'Hmm, I think this guy is a little off his rocker.' She grimaced, ' his pets are really annoying. Those bats may be there but if they keep annoying me...'
Kitra had an interesting thought, 'What if she drew these people? Could turn out amusing.' A smile curled up on her lips as she reached into her bag. She grabbed a sketchpad and pencil then flipped to a blank page.
Kitra's hand seemed to move like liquid, fast and flowing. She was only going to do extremely rough sketchs for the moment. Kitra wanted one for each of the mutants here. She frowned, 'I'm missing the other guy though.' Her frown turned into a small, quirk of a smile as the big guy, who happened to be red and have a tail.... 'Oooo, so cool,' had spoken upon coming out of the shadows and she let out a small laugh. 'What a way to break any tension.'
Kitra was chuckling inwardly as she once again concentrated on her sketch of the twins. As really, really rough sketchs only took her a few minutes...opposed to the normal twenty for a decent sketch, she was almost done with the twins. She did a few more minor details, like the bat in long haired girl's hair.
Kitra thenflipped a page and moved on to sketch Syn and Mandain/Horus. She could already see this red guy in her mind and would be able to sketch him, unless someone stopped her off course. Calley she could always sketch him later. Once these rough sketches were done, she would start on better ones....Much, much better ones.
Kitra grimaced again, 'that noise is killing my ears. Syn may be trying to make peace but I am not. This noise has got to go.' With that thought she concentrated and multiple throwing knifes appeared and flung themselves at the scarabs. Not to hurt them, nor hit them. hopefully to make their master make them leave. So there would be no more screeching. She then went back to drawing, as she had Syn and was almost finished with the crazy guy, Mandain/Horus. Kitra would start upon Abyss as sson as she finished.

Calley
((ooc: This was originally before Kitra’s last post.))
Abyss heaved forward changing his mind, he might as well get close to the fun if there was any to be had. He paced out of the alley he had noticed to notice him and was sure the twins could echo locate him or whatever it was they did. so he simply strode out into the street "you filthy mutants need to get off my car." He then smiled broadly. he didn't know why but sometimes it amused him to play the part of the mutant hater. no one would by it with one look at him, at the very least they would think he was confused. "I just figured I might as well be ready to go for when the inevitability of one of these sheep call the cops for our existing." he gave a broad wave to the mutants gathered. In a good world this would simply be a gathering and not something to cause alarm among the weak, but the humans made this world bad much sooner than mutants had a chance too.
Santa!
Santa Santa Santa Santa Monkey Tail Awesomeness Santa!
Calley forgot all about playing with Grumpy, misplaced his mission regarding Syn, and ignored Kitra's decidedly unsettling current actions in favor of doing something he'd been wanting to do for a long time. This was his first meeting with Abyss, bi-pedal style. He wanted to make himself a big red friend.
He ran the five or so steps over to Abyss, and stopped well inside of the big guy's personal space. Then he tilted his head back, and grinned up at him. The red mutant might look intimidating at first sight... but Calley had long ago replaced any fear he had for the guy with a sort of spontaneous affection. Santa liked cats. And he had a monkey tail.
"You look cool." Calley declared, his voice full of awe and his face grinning broadly. "I like you. Can I touch the tail? Please?"
Abyss was in an odd, almost depressed, anti world mood today, what was the word, cynical. Abyss looked to the girl and nodded absently at the comments he wasn't used to flattery and didn't know how to take it but apparently he had done something to charm the pair. as her younger brother ran up to him like he had candy. Abyss lightly lifted the boy and set him down at an arms length. he observed him for a minute and wondered briefly if he had been dropped at some point. he definately didn't have sense to stay away from danger. " why do you want to touch it? He asked warily, semi suspicious of any potential mutant and these looks are more trouble than they are worth." he said keeping his bad mood in mind.

Calley
Calley got lifted up... and deposited. He laughed happily, and kept smiling all through the man's scrutinizing looks.
"I want to touch it," Calley explained, quite simply, "because it's awesome." He nodded in agreement with himself, still grinning at the guy. Actually, his face was starting to hurt, he was grinning so much. And considering his facial muscles were used to gettin' a workout... that was saying a lot. The fact that Abyss was sounding like Grumpy acted only made him more amused. "Ooo!" He patted down his pants pockets... and pulled out the little lime green squeaky hedgehog he'd just bought at the pet shop. Now he wouldn't do this for just any mutant on the street, but for Santa Claus... "For you! You look like you're havin' a bad day." Calley shoved his prize towards the big red man, quite sure that lime green squeaky hedgehogs could fix any problem the world had to offer.
hmmm, if he was questioning the boys sanity he was definately thinking he had a case now. He was offering him a green hedge hog. He was perplexed but he reminded him of one of the kids he rescued from those labs that haywire had been in nervous and anxious to please. Abyss snatched the hedge hog out of his hand with his tail he wrapped it up and tossed into his hands leaving it just out of reach of the boy. It was temptingly close how ever. " you sure kid? this is a pretty great squeaky toy." he said trying not to sound sarcastic or too at a loss for words. " How bout this, you hang on to it for me and give it to me the next time we meet?" he tossed it to the boy. " I might need it more next time." he said with a light smile.

Calley
Abyss had used his awesome monkey tail to take the lime green squeaky hedgehog. There were not words to describe how cool that was.
"you sure kid? this is a pretty great squeaky toy." Calley got the impression that Santa wasn't used to having teenagers hand him squeaky toys. That's just 'cause most teenagers were too busy angsting to appreciate the value of squeakies. "How bout this, you hang on to it for me and give it to me the next time we meet?" Abyss tossed it back, and Calley caught it easily. "I might need it more next time." He'd gotten a smile out of the guy. Ha! Lime green squeaky hedgehogs for the win!
"Deal, Sir." Calley nodded, and returned the toy to his pocket. He was still grinning, of course. "So what's your name? And did you always look this cool? And what else can you do, besides looking cool? I'm Calley!" He offered his hand.
Abyss was astounded and somewhere that would never be admitted to he was touched. He hadn't ever that he could remember, being greeted so cordially. This Calley could have been the kind neighbor he never had the chance to meet or the decent guy that he might have decide was actually worthy of dating one of his sisters. He daydreamed a lot growing up of what could have been. He offered his hand and then his tail. Shaking his hand. " You may touch my tail if you like. "he offered the end hooking it. "I am Abyss, I can do a couple of useful things. I could probably throw that cat into a plane from here." he exaggerated a bit." and the other shall remain a surprise.I started looking like this the second my x gene kicked in it was a slow process but this was the end result. what about yourself? Are you a mutant? like your sister there?"

Calley
They shook, and Calley felt a little like his hand had gotten swallowed by a friendly meat grinder. The big red guy could have just as easily crushed his hand as shaken it--good thing Calley trusted that Santa would never hurt him, or that thought might have made him nervous. As it was... Monkey tail!
"You may touch my tail if you like."
Mission Big-Red-Friend-Capture: complete. Calley reverently reached out, and petted the hooked tail before him. It was softer than he'd pictured. Still a little coarse. And it lived up to his expectations of awesomeness. He let his hand go back to his side, but he was still smiling at the guy in wonder when the fact that Abyss had been speaking sunk in--more importantly, those questions of his sunk in.
"What about yourself? Are you a mutant? like your sister there?"
Calley stopped smiling for the first time since he'd run up to the guy. He shoved his hands in his pockets. And he started fidgeting. There was a small squee from one pocket as he started playing with the lime green squeaky hedgehog. "Well, umm, given present company," he jerked his head to indicate everyone else on the scene--Kitra included, Abyss excluded--"it probably wouldn't be safe to say I was human, right? And given the world in general, it probably wouldn't be safe to say I was a mutant. Sir." He added the last 'Sir' not as a sign of respect for the bearer of the Awesome Monkey Tail, as his previous ones had been, but more as a please-don't-hurt-me afterthought. Most of his recent conversations had been with Hunter. This probably wasn't a healthy thing, mentally or physically. Something Hunter had been very clear on during one of those conversations: he wasn't supposed to tell anyone about his powers. "So, umm, would you mind me not answering that? Sir." Squee! He took his hands from his pockets, and sort of clasped them in in front of himself. No one asked you, lime green squeaky hedgehog.
As Horus was still in conversation with Syn, the woman sitting on the car pulled out a sketchbook and started drawing stuff. His scarabs were still circling around him, trying to get his attention, but Horus was still not paying attention. He tried to keep an eye on Syn, and the woman who was trying to drawn something, her pencil or whatever she was using was going very fast, she had to be very good at what she was doing.
As he kept an eye on the woman sketching stuff, she suddenly threw something very fast. Horus couldn't follow what she had thrown, but when he gave attention to his scarabs, He saw she had some thrown some knifes at his friends, this clearly was a warning, and they were a bit noisy today. Horus sat down on one knee, commanding the scarabs to go back beneath the surface, so Horus could call them whenever he needed his friends.
Horus stood up again and turned his face to Syn again. He gave the sketching woman a look, it wasn't a friendly look since Horus already try to prove he wasn't out to start a real fight. He didn't like the fact she threatened his scarabs. But since the girl was still young he didn't react to it and put his attention to Syn fully again. With one eye he was looking at Syn, and with the other eye he looked behind her at the little child, he was doing something with the newly entered Man Thing Something. He or it was red, very buff, and it had a tail. Something you didn't see everyday.

Vibe was alternately happy to see Abyss step out into plain sight, and disappointed that his appearance seemed to distract this kid from her head. She's was looking forward to 'suggesting' he find someone else to perch on, preferably Bright Eyes.
The other girl by this time had pulled out a drawing pad, and begun sketching. Vibe dismissed her rather quickly, as she seemed to simply be wasting time. At least she managed to get rid of some of those giant scarabs. Vibe shuddered reflexibly.
When Abyss mentioned one of the surrounding humans calling the police, she scoffed. A moment later Amp piped up and said, "Let 'em. It'll take 'em forever to get to this side of town anyway. The department doesn't care about this area."
Vibe's attention eventually became focused on the boy. He seemed to be about the twins age, but he was acting like a five-year-old. He was hyperactive, and obviously didn't seem have a clue as to the nature of this confrontation. Or he didn't care, one of the two. He was enthralled with.... a chew toy.... a dog's chew toy....
>Ooookay.... someone's had way too much sugar....<
Amp opened one eye slightly, shrugged, then returned to her 'sight'. Mandain seemed completely smitten with Syn, which meant he was calming down.
And that meant he was not fighting. Amp sighed deeply, and grumbled to herself.
Giving vent to her irritability, Amp decided to turn her attention to the 'window watchers'. A barely audible, high-pitched shrill rang through the area. It was a general attack, though she bent it around so it wouldn't affect either Abyss or Syn. What it did to Bright Eyes, the artist, and the boy? She could care less. What it did else where?
There were many groans and cries from all around. Heads suddenly disappeared from windows as human withdrew as fast as possible. Several windows shattered, adding to the general confusion.
Trying to block out everything else around her but Horus, Syn continued to subdue him. He had strange yet wonderful powers it seemed. Something she could use to her advantage. "I could use someone with your talents. You see, I'm the leader of a powerful group but we are low in numbers and you seem like the type who could work with us to show those weak humans that times are changing."
