The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sandwiches. Home-made. Sourdough bread. Good sourdough bread. Mustard. Good roast beef. Some mayo. Some sliced cheddar cheese. A thermos of coffee and some grapes. Simple. Good. He had enough for two inside a brown paper bag. Which he held in his arms as he went up the stairs to the shoot.
For Aurum, his day had been going especially well. He'd yelled at five different people, helped a couple clients settle outside of court, and drank some really good coffee (which he planned to share). The highlight of the morning hadn't happened though. And now it was afternoon. Lunch time. It would happen soon. He was going to bring this lunch to his girlfriend on the set. Sure, they had food there and he was certain she could help herself, but that wasn't the point. The point was... he was going to have some lunch with her on set. Yeah. That was the point. Good point, bro. Good point.
Some people become bumbling fools when they wander onto a set, after waving their identification, proving who they are, and appeasing all the right gods, only to come to the set and see their girlfriend in a cat suit on the legs of another guy. Maybe forget the start of that sentence and focus on the key points. Some people become freaking idiots when they stumble upon their girlfriend, scantily-clad, on the leg of some guy. A 'freaking idiot' could in this case be jealous, or angry, or glad. Maybe Aurum was the last one, but hey. In no way was it related to his girlfriend's outfit or the position she all-too-hastily pulled herself out of on his approach. He held up the bag.

And then....Aurum showed up.
One second, Riley was congratulating herself on the fact that she had made it through the shoot and done a damn good job of it, and the next she was looking at Aurum. He'd brought her lunch.
When had she sprung away from the leg of the Atlantean asshat? Why were her cheeks flushing? Bah. This was one of those 'girlfriend' things that Riley was really having a hard time getting used to. As she rose to standing, the brunette had to wonder if she was finally going to get a glimpse of the jerk that Aurum did so well at hiding. Sure, it had been hidden the whole time she'd known him and had never even peeked its head out a single time...but it was there somewhere, she was sure. That was the case with all men, and Riley was prepared.
"Thanks." she said, dusting off her hands and putting them on her hips. "We can eat in my room if you have time to stay." she offered, waiting to see what he'd say.
The kid was still standing where she'd left him, so Riley glanced over her shoulder.

>> "Hey, I brought food."
The voice was sudden and just enough to cause Akshay to shake out of his little world. He was still a little on cloud nine from the whole experience and didn’t know how to accurately present himself anymore. It was over, finally, but the camera man had wanted him to stick around? Why? He shook that off as he blinked at the…VERY tall man that came in bearing sandwiches. He looked like a pretty boy but obviously someone that Akshay did not want to get on the wrong side of.
Then Riley detached herself and it instantly became clear who this person was in relation to this whole thing.
>> "Thanks…We can eat in my room if you have time to stay…”[/i]
The blush, the sudden wide-eyed look, the wordsmith had to grin a little. Sooooo, the saucy condescending model had a boyfriend, eh? Figured. But he was most surprised by her reaction to him. She almost looked like…she was ashamed to be caught in such a pose with another man, even though she was strictly working. Intereeeesting…
>> “Nice work kid."[/color]
Akshay gave a small wave in response. Now that the shot and initial shock of meeting her was over, he was able to think just a little more clearly. Yes, he was infatuated, but it was slowly sinking in that she probably would have rather been absolutely anywhere than this photo shoot. He had to hand it to her, she really was a trooper for putting up with him…AND all the nerds she was still going to have to contend with the rest of the day.
He sighed a little. Maybe…he really should just leave. He had probably taken enough time from everyone and they still had a lot to do.
Blushing, huh? Like any man, he appreciated a good blush far more than a crazy outfit. He smiled at her.
"I was actually planning on it," He replied, nodding to the bag. "Packed for two."
Her focus turned to the guy she'd been working with, and he spared a friendly glance and a nod his way. His hands were too full with the bag to wave back. The smile and the nod would have to do. His focus turned back to Riley.

And just like that, it was all over. They were walking away from the kid, Riley had some time off to gather herself again, and Aurum was there with food. The brunette couldn't help but smile, whatever was in the bag was sure to be delicious. Even if Aurum hadn't made it, his standards for food were high and nothing he ever suggested to her was subpar. It was amazing how well things like that could dissolve a previously bad mood.
Until she caught sight of herself in the mirror.
For someone who had never been ashamed of her work, Riley sure felt self-conscious. Well...self-conscious might have been the wrong word. In all honesty, she wanted to know what Aurum thought.
They made it to her dressing room, which was anything but a permanent fixture, but still nicer than some places she'd worked, and Riley pulled open the door. The room itself was pretty sparse, occupied only by a small table, a dresser, and a vanity with a mirror. Riley's street clothes were folded on the dresser, and a few other nick nacks were lying around.
"Sorry I'm stuck in this." she said, gesturing at the cat suit, "But I think they'll need me for more pictures later. You can set the stuff on the table."
"Roast beef sandwiches, some coffee, and grapes." He said simply, then added. "And don't worry about it. You're fine. I like the ears, but... animal print and those colors?" He had to shake his head and laugh. "Not sure what the designer was thinking."
As he spoke, he set the bag down on the table casually. As if meeting in a dressing room with her in a cat suit and him... not... was perfectly ordinary. An everyday thing.
"You have coffee mugs, right?" He looked her way, suddenly realizing he'd forgotten a key thing.

The...colors? He'd walked into the shoot to see her wrapped around another man's leg with her hand halfway up his thigh, and now that they were alone he was concerned with the designer's idea of color coordination?
An amused chuckle rose in Riley's chest and she couldn't help but shake her head as she made her way to the vanity and opened the drawer to grab to Styrofoam cups. They weren't fancy, but they held liquid and kept it warm. The lunch he'd brought sounded delicious.
Turning and making her way back to the table, Riley sank into the chair, careful to avoid smashing her tail, and set the cups down.
"I'm not sure color coordination was the goal of the outfit." she said, surreptitiously glancing down at her own plunging neckline.
"Ah. Well." Aurum shrugged. "You make it look good. Anyways," Sitting down, he reached into the bag to extract the sandwiches. "Here's your sandwich. And the grapes. And coffee." One by one, things appeared on the table. The man got his own things, once his lady was properly situated.
He took up a sandwich in his hands and looked at her, finishing with a question. "So. How's your day?"

Somehow, with every little action and word Aurum said, something inside Riley shifted a little bit more. When he finished, and he was sitting across from her with the sandwich in his hand, the words flew from her mouth almost completely unbidden.
"I love you." she said, and as the words cleared her lips, Riley's hands flew to her mouth, almost like they could push them back in.
Why had she said that?! He'd just been sitting there, taking everything so in stride, like he didn't care about the cat suit, or the fact that he was sitting there in his fancy lawyer clothes eating lunch with her in a place like this. He hadn't cared about the nerd kid in the photoshoot, and he had known that she would like it if he showed up like this.
Why had she gone and said it though? She'd held out so long, ever since that day on the ice. He hadn't pushed, he hadn't prodded, or even asked her for anything in return...and all this time she'd made sure she didn't give it.
He didn't set his sandwich down. He merely acted as if she were commenting on the weather. 'My, but that is an interesting weather pattern we've been having this week.' 'I love you.' 'Yes, I love you too.' 'This rain, however, gets no love.' 'Quite.'
"That so? I love you, too. Drink your coffee." He nodded towards the thermos. "Before it gets cold."
Inside, fireworks banged and angels sang, but she probably would have ran from that. And he was not cool enough to have pulled off an 'I know'. So he'd played it cool. Two paths had diverged in a yellow wood, and he'd taken the one that he thought best. Any who didn't agree with his choice could go stuff themselves. And what luck! Sandwiches! They were sitting right there! Aurum took a bite of his own.

So…that was it?
Riley still sat in the dingy little chair, in the dumpy little room, watching as Aurum sat across from her with the sandwich in his hand. He hadn’t really said much of anything, just acknowledged what she’d said, returned the sentiment, and gone on with what he was doing. He even told her that she should eat her sandwich.
That was it?
Realizing her hands were still over her mouth, Riley let them drop into her lap and just sat. When had her life gotten so crazy? She’d had everything figured out, she’d been getting by. She hadn’t really been happy, but what could a person really hope for in this day and age? Riley Sommers had found a niche, and she’d been doing just fine.
Then Aurum had come along. Sitting in that stupid court room, bold as brass walking up to her in that bar, taking everything she dished out and either dishing it right back or blowing it off like the petty nonsense that it was. He’d completely turned her life upside down.
Maybe it had needed it?
Was this happy? Riley wasn’t actually sure, but there was definitely nothing wrong with the way she felt. Finally, she picked up the sandwich and took a bite. Dear god it was good. How could a sandwich be that good?
”Thanks.” she said a moment later. He could interpret it however he wanted.
