Character:
Personality: His mood is black or white, serious or laid back. Never one to be the social life of the party, he rather be on his own. Constantly over thinks and analyzes situations so he is quite socially awkward, unless he is talking about his interests. Tries to be as logical and neutral as possible on every subject he comes across, in attempt to find the “correct” outcome to every situation.
A true INTJ to the core. Introverted Intuitive Thinking Judging, John will think and digest on something for a while, think of a solution to solve the problem and test it until he is satisfied. Any deviation from any solution he judges the best or works the best makes him quite agitated, hence “stupid” people greatly annoy him and he can't help but inwardly feel superior to many people whether he is truly superior or not.
Hobbies/ Interests: Boxing, fighting of all other kinds, intellectual discussions, Yomi( the dissection of competitive guessing in the art of war), digging in the garden, burying bones, smelling things
Job or part time job and description: Pro level Boxer as well as amateur level coffee vendor.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Losing sight of his goals, becoming weak, losing control over his thoughts, death, spiders, being powerless in any situation beyond his control, losing his sanity, becoming stuck in one form or the other, the vacuum cleaner.
Special talents: Boxing, cappuccino making? He is a rather simple guy who only focuses on one thing at a time, so he isn't talented in anything outside his current interests.
Morality: He would call himself Neutral/good. His logical tendencies often lead him to conclusions on life and justice that others find disturbing, but he indeed loves justice being done and rather hates corruption on all levels. He won’t hesitate to tell you for example, the population problem could technically be solved easily by mass genocide, but he shudders at the thought and would never wish that upon the world no matter what.
Mutations
Mutation description: Can transform his body into a fully grown muscular German Shepard dog, a genetically “perfect” example of the breed. He retains his human mind while in this form, but is strongly influenced by canine instincts and traits. Essentially his thoughts become a perfect fusion of both dog and man, so he can have problems controlling himself sometimes while transformed, as he is equal parts dog and man. The transformation can last hours, and he can go back and forth between human and dog multiple times per day but cannot do it in rapid succession, he must wait a half hour or so in between transformations.
It is physically possible for him to change back and forth quickly, but he risks serious debilitating mental effects if he does that are akin to schizophrenia. If this occurs it takes him weeks to set his mind straight ( Am I a human who turns into a dog or a dog who turns into a human?) The changing itself takes about ten seconds, he cannot force it to change faster or slower, it is what it is. He must stand perfectly still and focus on his goal of changing in order to transform, if heavily distracted he can find this very hard to achieve (being drunk for example, negates his ability to turn at all). Because he is focused on one thing while trying to transform that takes intense concentration, his mental defense plummets and he is very susceptible to mind powers.
While in dog form, loud sounds can hurt or even damage his hearing in dog form permanently. Susceptible to anything that could harm dogs while transformed, only his mind stays, his genetic structure changes 100% into the dog. His transformation is a type where everything he is touching essentially gets transformed with him. He cannot change anyone but himself, but clothing or shoes fuse into his change, and come back when he turns back into a human.
Strengths: Dog transformation, enhanced hearing, speed, strength, and saliva while transformed. Retains his human mind while changed, can change back and forth at will.
Weaknesses: Cannot quickly shift in between or suffers strong mental breakdowns, must focus and stand still to change, strong for a dog but still just a dog, susceptibility to mental control while trying to shift, takes full ten seconds to change, distraction can make it more difficult to change back and forth, kind of smelly if it rains, tennis balls.
Secondary mutation description: Animalistic fury. This is considered a mutant power because his tenacity goes above and beyond normal human constraints. A cornered animal never stops fighting till the threat is gone, John’s definition of “gone” means no longer able to fight back, whatever that entails or requires to achieve he will charge forward and apply it. While some humans also have tenacity on this level or bordering it, John’s literally can take full control as well as enhance his physical traits. While John prides himself on his controlled thoughts and logical discussions, he admits his mind can be lost in a haze with only one goal in mind at times, and he has no control on when this haze takes over.
He won’t go into this trance at random, only if his life is threatened or he feels like it is. Also while in this trace, tactics and strategy get replaced with sheer brute force and a determined will, nothing more. Pain can still stop him, but pain means very little when your goal has not yet been completed.
Afterword increased fatigue and sometimes nausea, as well as self-loathing overcomes him. He feels that, especially in boxing matches, when the trance occurs his instincts have robbed him of the thrill of the fight, and victories resulted from this trance feel hollow and undeserved. Yet he knows he would not be the successful boxer he is today without it, which only intensifies his feelings. He strives to live his life in such a way that this trance will not occur, which can sometimes lead to him not performing his best.
He is secretly afraid of the trance, and most of the time wishes it would go away, he can’t help but feeling like “a rabid dog” when the trance is in motion. Not always but occasionally, in extreme circumstances, he has total memory loss while in the trance. This would only occur if John was near death, as at this time his trance becomes to strong for his neurons to handle.
Strengths: Can obtain an animalistic fury trace when life is in danger or feels extremely threatened. Stronger pain tolerance, tunnel vision, and extreme tenacity while in the trance, only stops when the threat is gone, becomes able to push himself to his max physical limits with no thought processes to hold him back.
Weaknesses: Cannot turn this trance on or off at will, its more akin to a reflex, only ends when the threat is gone or he becomes unconscious, cannot think rationally or much at all, fear of the trance itself, goes against his personality and what he deems important (logic and tactical thinking and decision making) and leaves him feeling weak, sick, and inwardly dissatisfied with himself, can have complete memory loss from the start of the trance to the end, better for 1 on 1 confrontations. He understands how this trance can be beneficial, but deeply hates how it takes him over and how at times has still come to rely on it.
Fighting Style : Boxing, Brawling, focused
Explanation: In the ring he is an orthodox boxer, using a replica of Mike Tyson’s peek-a-boo style, and his own mixed in. Using the tight guard peek-a-boo style gives him, he charges forward and uses leg and back power to hit from below, making him an in-fighter (close range). Outside the ring his boxing roots heavily dominate, but he will use grapples and other moves illegal or not normally used in the ring to achieve what he needs to do.
Tends to shy away from all forms of kicks and uses his arms to their maximum, but knows how to trip and understands legs are important. He does not stop, and fights till the threat is gone like a rabid animal, especially if angry, if he has any control left at all at that point.
Pros for fighting style: Professionally trained for sports, boxing training, can easily overwhelm non athletic people as well as non-professionally trained people very quickly, his extensive boxing training has made John used to fighting one on one, and this gives him great focus on the task at hand.
Cons for fighting style: No training in other types of fighting, his style relies on physical fitness more than anything else so must continue training constantly to be effective, not used to fighting groups, like anything else weight makes a difference, if fighting someone several weight classes above him he will very likely lose unless he gets lucky.
Faction Allegiance Unaffiliated, but he wouldn’t be to upset if he joined one.
History Of Your Character:
John grew up in the state of Florida with his father, his mother died when he was ten. His mother dying is what drove him to try his hardest at everything, he felt he wasn’t able to save her due to weakness; this eventually leads to his interest in boxing. His mutant powers manifested through death as well, the family dog Rocky was a healthy and huge German Shepard. John’s father bought him as a puppy shortly after his mother died, hoping it would be a healthy distraction. Rocky was John’s trauma sponge all throughout middle and high school, his constant companion. Being a introvert, John didn’t have many other friends besides Rocky, he gave John the strength and will to continue on his bad days.
When John was 17 however, Rocky was hit by a drunk driver and was immediately killed while John was taking him for a walk. The anger and sadness that followed was almost stronger than the grief he felt when his mother died, eventually this took the form of John’s animalistic fury. This quickly led to John stumbling upon his ability to transform, while he stood mourning his companion’s death, he became him. John and his father both consulted a mutation specialist in the city in which they lived, he told them that John was indeed a mutant, and the recent death of his dog was the trigger that led to the discovery of his power. It wasn’t that John was always a dog morph, the specialist said if for example John’s pet was a cat, things might have turned differently. John’s genetics seemed wired to “pick up” on something he loved the most and keep it with him always, it could have been anything, but it was Rocky that filled the slot first. His DNA changed to incorporate this, and he could never change it or choose something else.
The knowledge that in essence, his friend was now with him always, changed John for the better. His boxing training doubled, and after high school he joined a gym and earned his pro license. Flying through the early ranks John is now 18th in the lightweight class, with high hopes of continuing to become the champion. He feels at this point in his life he wants new challenges, and he has moved to New York City to take part in the much bigger and fiercer boxing world there.
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Googling Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: no one
Sample RP: John always loved the moments before a match, but it was the months leading up to the fight that were the most important. He had fought back to back fights before, but this time was different. He had revamped his training schedule and never felt better. Three fights in a row and he had won in the first round, rushing out at the bell and pummeling his enemy till he stopped moving. This fourth fight though, was going to be challenging. He was to fight a guy he had fought many times before, back in high school, Mike Billings. They were always neck and neck in high school, always getting draws and ended their high school career with a 2 to 2 win loss ratio against each other, 4 ties. This time they would fight in the real world though, in the unforgiving ring. And going by Mike's recent boxing records, they were both still nearly a perfect match.
" I'm not to worried, we were always nearly equal in school, he was a little faster but I've been running every day this past month!" John explained to his coach,
" Plus I know his style, and I know he knows mine. Even if he has the same advantage as I do, I have the advantage of knowing that, and that's all I need."
John's coach laughed in his face and told him he was a idiot and every advantage I had over him he had over me.
The day before the fight a boxer always has a day off from training, but John went running anyway.
It won't wear me out and it will make sure I'm fresh up until the bell. He thought to himself as he walked down the road to the gym.
In New York City, it was not beneficial to your health to jog down the sidewalk, so John just used a treadmill in the local gym when he had to run. He personally felt it was not the same, but it did the job.
On the way however he noticed as he passed Central Park, a woman walking down the side walk on the opposite side of the road. Her big red purse was swinging low by her side, and just as John was thinking that it was a prime target for a purse snatcher, some guy dressed in black and a ski mask with holes in it sprinted by and nabbed it. She screamed as she pulled back on it, managing to knock of the mask in the struggle, but the thief took off with the purse in hand.
John smiled to himself and crossed the street as soon as he could and went up to the now crying woman. He has had many incidents happen like this around him since he moved here, and he enjoyed the challenge they brought. He had learned talking to them hardly ever led to a successful capture, and he had little time to spare, he ran up to her and grabbed the ski mask off the ground.
"Miss please, wait here, I will be right back with your purse. Don't move!" John yelled as he started to run. The woman just gave him a confused look as he ran off and stood still unsure of what to do.
John ran to the nearest alleyway, hid behind a dumpster and promptly stared at the ground focusing. He felt his skin become fluid, pinpricks as fur began to grow, and his mind become a ocean of thoughts that would turn anyone that wasn't used to it nearly hysterical. His bones flowed like water into their new shape painlessly, and as always John felt a surge of new energy and excitement pour over him as he finally finished the change. A large and built German Shepard now stood where John once did, wagging his tail. He padded over tot he mask and sniffed it, memorizing the scent of the man, then immediately charged away into the street, paws pounding the concrete.
In New York City, people have their subconscious blinders on, they mind their own business no matter what. John only attracted glances and gasps as he ran, no one tried stopping him. His tongue hung out of his mouth as he ran, diving through the river of countless smells that ravaged his new nose. Following the path he saw the snatcher take, he could still dig out his smell amidst the others, it was only a few moments before that he ran past here. He only got lost twice, once around a bend and once more in front of a bakery.
Finally after a few more turns he noticed the smell growing more and more until it led him to another alley way. Just inside, was a man with a red purse who reeked of the same smell the ski mask did. John needed no other information, this was the guy, and he bounded forward and jumped on top of the man without warning. John bit down and started lashing his head back and forth, trying to make the man drop the purse. John had done similar things before, mostly purse snatchers, and he knew from previous experience that most people are never ready and waiting for a random dog attack. Usually a person's first response was to drop the purse and try pushing him off with their hands, stupid of them considering where he held on to them was literally covered in teeth.
He let out a loud scream, as anyone would when a random dog happens to straight up attack you with no warning, and tried pushing John off which knocked the purse out of his hands. John immediately let go and grabbed the purse and bolted, hearing the thief curse and yell his confusion out to curious and bewildered onlookers. John had done this exact thing several times already, this was by far the easiest though, if not a little more conspicuous than normal. But to onlookers, John was not recognizable, he was just a dog running with a purse in his mouth. Surely New Yorkers have seen stranger things.
As John returned the purse to the woman, now more confused as ever, he took time to relive himself behind a tree and find a shady spot to transform back. But of course not before getting distracted by some pigeons that happened to be along the way.
