The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The blond decided to take her leave, and in spite of herself, Riley was grateful. She even grinned a bit when Svetlana emphasized that she was having a girl’s night out.
Riley knew what that meant. Aurum probably didn’t though…and the implications were almost giggle worthy. The sacrifice on the blonde’s part would most likely be for naught. This was Aurum they were talking about…and Riley supposed it was technically a first date.
Sveta left, and Riley looked around the living room. The apartment was fitting for Aurum, she could see him here, relaxing and cooking all the time. The image was kind of cute.
He returned to say the coffee would be ready in a few, and the dark haired woman smiled, feeling suddenly awkward, now that they were alone.
”Thanks…” she said, cursing herself for being terrible at this. Nothing had really changed from a few minutes earlier when they’d been chatting amiably over dinner.
But it had.
”So….” she said, wincing slightly at how awkward she sounded.

”Only if I can help.” Riley said.
”It would be a shame to miss a master at work.” she added with a small smirk, eternally grateful to Aurum for breaking the silence that had trailed after that ‘so’.

What did she want?
Honestly…she had no clue.
Riley chuckled and shook her head. ”Uh…brownies?” she hazarded. With all the stuff that she’d seen in that fridge earlier…surely there were ingredients to make brownies. They were relatively quick…and easy enough that she’d chanced making them a few times from a box.
"Okay," He grinned. And since he felt like being difficult. "Basic chocolate? Chocolate cheesecake? Chocolate peanut butter? Dark chocolate butterscotch? Et cetera?"
A man with many options, he was.
He recalled some company he'd once had... at a friend's place... when they were all really trashed... like, falling down drunk, waking up in the wrong bed... had really liked the chocolate cheesecake option. So. He really liked it, too.
The lady liked. Lots of grinning, this guy did too. He must've really liked cooking.
Uh, yeah. Aurum liked cooking. He hadn't make chocolate butterscotch in a while, either. In fact.
"Great. Meet me in the kitchen. I need to get my recipe book. Get out some eggs and butter, to start out. Fridge." With that, he ran to his room.
In fact, he didn't recall the recipe point blank. Shocking, truly.
Aurum kneeled down in front of the little bookshelf in his room, running a finger over books as he read their spines. After a couple seconds of searching, his finger stopped, settling on a thin book. He pulled it from the case.
The book actually wasn't something printed professionally. It was a scrap book of sorts. All great cooks have this sort of thing, you see. A hand-picked grouping of great recipes from meals, past. Gleaned from magazines, scoured from the world around. Clipped out. Neatly. And placed in a book.
He brought it happily to the kitchen, and set it down on the counter, opening it up.
Aurum turned to Riley and started directing her to other ingredients and their locations, like a great orchestra conductor directs their musicians.

And just like that she’d been sent to the kitchen.
If he’d have told her to make a sandwich, Riley would have just kept walking until she was out the door. As it were, he set her to work gathering ingredients. For freakin’ dark chocolate butterscotch brownies.
Hell yeah.
To the kitchen Riley went, opening the fridge and digging around until she found the eggs and butter. That had been simple enough!
Aurum returned, small homemade cookbook in hand and Riley almost rolled her eyes. Of course he had a homemade cookbook stashed in his apartment, full of lovingly clipped recipes. He was making her those awesome brownies though, so the eye rolling stayed locked in its bitter, cynical little cupboard in the back of Riley’s mind as she put herself to work following Aurum’s directions.
Soon enough they’d gathered the ingredients. The chocolate looked good. Riley pretty much just wanted to eat it.
”Alright, that’s everything. If we don’t start cooking soon, I’m likely to snag that chocolate and run.” she admitted candidly, eying the substance in question.
That unsweetened chocolate likely wouldn't be very sweet. He may or may not have tested this when he was younger. Aurum simply shook his head with a chuckle. "Yes, Mastah. To work, I go."
To work, he went.
First thing he did was use the microwave to melt that unsweetened chocolate and butter. While that was going on, he directed Riley.
"Turn the oven to 350, would ya'?" It needed to preheat.
The sugar butter mix came out hot. Aurum looked up from the bowl he was stirring to Riley. "Check the cupboard to the right of the oven. There should be a 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan in there. It needs to be greased."
He mixed until the mix was smooth, then let it cool a little. He went for a bigger bowl. When it was just right, he added the mix into that bowl, combining it with his measured sugar. He stirred in the egg whites and vanilla. Then, he added flour. Stirred in the chips.
He realized he'd completely left her jobless for that last stretch. He'd been so focused, it had been hard to break his mind from the awesome task at hand. Whoops! Oh well, she'd been greasing the pan. Right? Right!?
Turning, he looked to see what Riley was up to.
"Bring the pan here and help me spread the mix out into it, please." Aurum requested.
When they had it spread, he looked to Riley. His face was practically glowing from all the smiling. "Put it in?" He gestured.
They were done.
Except the glaze! Which he started once their victory posing was all done.

More cooking, more direction…until Aurum simply stopped giving directions. She’d got out the pan as directed, greased it as directed, and now had nothing to do.
Riley…honestly didn’t mind all that much. This was more cooking than she’d ever done before, and it was kind of nice to step back and watch Aurum work.
One thing was for sure. If he approached law with the same gusto that he approached cooking, the legal world had better look out. Again, a small jolt of skepticism shot through Riley at the whole slightly surreal nature of what was happening. Sure she was happy…but people were always happy at first. Then the real world got in the way, and it…just wasn’t worth the time, or the heartbreak. The happy, fun times were the fleeting ones.
The thing was…when Aurum turned back to her, he was so happy. It was utterly contagious. Riley grinned and did as he said, pouring the batter into the pan and spreading it evenly.
That finished, she took the brownies (which looked so flipping good) and slid them into the oven, shutting the door.
”And I didn’t even burn myself.” she said, turning back to Aurum, positively beaming.
He chuckled, and confessed. "I think the first time I used an oven, I burned myself." He paused, tilted his head up and to the right, thinking, and added. "Or it might have been a burner."
True story. He hadn't always been this amazing chef. Everyone has to start somewhere.
Turning back to the task at hand, he started working on the glaze.
"Set the kitchen timer, will you?" He pointed the microwave out, then told her for how long.

”I’ve used an oven before!” Riley exclaimed, just a little defensively.
Aurum told her to set the kitchen timer, and as she turned to set it, she spoke.
”I might have burned myself a few times though… Which is why I don’t use one anymore.” This was true. Burned fingers, over-boiling pots, and small fires had convinced Riley that she just wasn’t cut out for cooking.
Task finished, she moved so she could see what Aurum was doing, leaning past him to watch as he made the glaze.
”Something tells me that you just made this look way easier than it actually is.”
>>”I might have burned myself a few times though… Which is why I don’t use one anymore.”
He smirked at that. "A few bad experiences shouldn't discourage you. It's like riding a bicycle."
>>”Something tells me that you just made this look way easier than it actually is.”
"Like riding a bicycle," He repeated. He finished stirring the glaze and set his spoon leaning against the bowl's side. Then, he looked to her. "So, what do you want to do until the brownies are done?"
