The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She went from pursing her lips curiously to staring at him with the power of scolding. He swallowed again. He paused to steel himself to the decision, to dedicate his will to it. “I will do my absolute best to try.” It rang true he meant it.
He looked her in the eye ignored her pouty lips, He leaned in the couple of feet became an impossible distance, when he got close to her he closed his eyes and tried his damnedest to multitask. He plant his lips on hers, not able to resist adding a little bit more context to the kiss then needed, he didn’t however add tongue and he resisted the urge to place a hand to her face. For the first couple of seconds he couldn’t get past kissing her.
But he took his word seriously and if picturing himself as boy learning to read from his father didn’t dose the spark of romance nothing would luckily it did the trick. It was weird but he managed to picture his bed room and sitting on the edge of a bed with creamy orange sheets and maroon pillows. He stared down at a book in his father’s hands and sounded out the words in typical doctor Seuss Rhyme. He did his best as he concentrated on it.
He moved in close. She breathed. Okay. He leaned forward and she definitely had to let her lips loose if they were supposed to touch their lips together. That was okay too.
What was not okay was after a second or two when Noel realized that nothing was happening. Maybe it didn't work on people? Just things?
She put her hands on his shoulders with every intention to push him back and away from her lips. Only. He'd asked her to taste the pencil. She had put the pencil to her tongue.
They were already here... She opened her lips and her tongue darted out to tap timidly at a lip.
He might have been thinking about baseball reading. Noel was not. She was thinking about tongues.
Huh?! She put her tongue in his mouth, was she testing his metal, that wasn’t fair. He concentrated on reading. He responded in kind, parting his lips and tentatively responding with his own tongue.
He settled his mind and tried not to think about what was going on with him physically, it was so very odd. He concentrated on himself sounding out the story of little Morris McGurk. He cleaned up the parking lot of cans cars and trees, he sold impossible amounts of lemonade, roped by a clown and wrestled a grizzly ghastly, and he skied and avoided cacti.
~He stuck his tongue out at his sister after she had called him a name.~
~ He repeatedly licked strawberry ice cream cone.~
~He passionately Kissed a redhead next to a pool.~
~His brother’s dog Ogre slammed into him licking him repeatedly.~
~Noel’s tongue flicked into his mouth and his tongue responded.~
Aedus laid an arm across the back of the couch, the finger tips of his other hand rested on her nearest leg, they were behaving. He thought of practicing lines for a school play, repeatedly reading them over and over to memorize them, it beat thinking about anything involving his dad.
Somewhere along the way, she'd forgotten to breathe. Noel discovered this when her lungs started to protest. Her arms were around his shoulders so when she leaned back and away she didn't get very far before she was gasping for air.
"S-Sorry!" She turned her head so that the word came out against his cheek instead of against his lips.
Lips and tongues haunted her. Ice cream. Ice cream! Yeah! That was the best one to think about. Definitely not remembering kissing a girl. By the pool. She'd had red hair...
"Oh God. I have to go." She tried to disentangle her arms and... and there was something else she was supposed to do besides learn to read here, but she couldn't think of it now that she was on her feet next to the couch.
"Wait!" Aedus sprung to his feet as soon as she was done trying to make him break his word. her arms were wrapped around him, her cheeks now held a lovely blush... she kissed like someone dying of thirst in the dessert and she just found an Ozarka factory. "...did it work?"
He looked puzzled at her frantic reaction. " My mind was on reading the whole time, I swear! he meant it, even if there were those first couple of seconds, they didn't count because the effort it took to concentrate on something else and still preform should have earned him a medal.
Wait? She didn't want to wait. The door was almost in reach. "Oh, it worked. But I didn't learn about reading." She didn't want to be embarrassed so, naturally, she got angry instead. This whole thing was kind of awkward to begin with.
"Are you absolutely 100% positive you were thinking about reading the whole time?" Because that was soooo not what she saw. Her tone and face said so even if her words didn't.
Ice cream, ice cream, for God's sake think of the ice cream!
“Yes! I thought about what I told you about my dad teaching me, and then I thought about reading a script over and over that I practice for a play.” Aedus returned even more sure that it was true than the first time. “Wait but it worked? So you got memories…but not about reading?” Aedus looked a little bit stunned… that means she could be thinking about ANY-thing that he remembered. He swallowed hard.
“Ok, so you got something else…then it doesn’t matter what I am thinking about, because I was concentrating hard.” He looked down and thought.
“Well you could be controlling what you find… that makes a certain amount of sense, it isn’t my ability it is yours..were you thinking about learning to read?”
He certainly didn’t think so, but he was also careful not to ask. He didn’t wait to ask permission her body language would tell him. He took a step closer to her. You owe it to yourself to find out.[/coral] He closed the distance and attempted to put her in a warm embrace. Concentrate on learning to read. He didn’t add 'if you can?' as he leaned in and attempted to return a very distracting favor…that is if she let him.
He said yes like he was sure. It didn't taste like a lie. Didn't that have to be a lie? She didn't learn anything about reading. Noel's anger died with her confusion.
Was she thinking about reading?
No, she'd been thinking about her mutation and how it worked only when she used her...
Noel turned about as red as the lobster they'd eaten earlier. This was her fault. Could she just die now?
> "You owe it to yourself to find out."
And he was there, leaning in and all puckered up. The brunette leaned back without thinking. She wasn't prepared... she wasn't thinking about reading enough! Her calf banged against the coffee table as she tried to back up. She put her hands on his shoulders again both to steady herself and to keep him at bay.
"Just... hold on, okay? I have to think about reading!" Panic colored her words. She so wasn't thinking about reading right now.
Aedus steadied her at the waist and then released her as soon as she was steady and took a step back. “Yeah sorry, I just thought you might take off. It is kind of difficult to concentrate.” By kind of he meant insanely. “if it works… feel free to read me like a book, anything else that I know and you want to know. It’s yours.” Probably not the best phrase to use there, but it was promising and if making out with her would help well…He was up to making that kind of sacrifice. That’s right, he was just that sort of noble guy.
Aedus patiently waited her permission to turn the tables on her. He would have offered to postpone it to another day...but what if she refused to show, he would help break her nerve when she might be so close to A way to help her power make up for some of the pitfalls it caused her.
Okay. She wasn't going to take off right this second. Especially now that he was giving her a little more breathing room. Okay. Okay. She tucked her hair behind her ears and tried to calm down and let her face cool off. She was... No, but she could... Noel debated so fiercely with herself in her own head that she wasn't even sure what side she was on. Did this make her a bad person somehow?
"You're sure it's okay? You don't mind me trying to figure this out on you?" Did that come out wrong? That came out wrong. "With, I mean." Yeah. Smooth. Real smooth.
Noel needed to sit down. But directly behind her was the coffee table. And the couch... well that just screamed make out spot. Maybe kitchen chairs...?
She was really just putting off the inevitable. She was okay. He was okay. They were both adults. They could do this rationally and dispassionately and like adults. Right. "Okay." It felt like she was saying that a lot.
Noel re-took her seat on the couch. She closed her eyes and tucked her hair behind her ears again. She thought very carefully about reading. It was hard for her to read. She had to sound it all out. And she could imagine a little Aedus and she could imagine his father too... that could be enough to go on.
He nodded. “If I can help you, I will, I don’t have much to hide, and anything I do pales in comparison to what it might mean to you.” Aedus set down on the couch and resolved that making it hard on her was stupid, he didn’t quite know how to make it easy either though, there were much more important things then making out at stake here.
He put his hand lightly on hers. “If you want me to stop, just let me know.” Her eyes were closed as he leaned in and closed his own, His lips met hers softly and so his lips kissed her as he waited for her to invite him to do more, when she initiated more, he opened his mouth to hers exploring casually and calmly, trying not to overwhelm her multitasking while still kissing her in a way that she seemed interested in. this was the best way to help someone ever. His other hand casually made its way to her jaw as Aedus moved into a comfortable rhythm. His hands were cautiously placed to her jaw line and her other hand. If she made a move that reposition him into anything tamer or risqué he followed her lead wordlessly.
There was a certain tranquility that came with opening up anything should could possibly want to know about him. He was at absolute ease with her…and she was fun to kiss…it was an odd sensation, knowing she was trying to ignore him, while at the same time she could be getting to know him better than anyone else possibly could.
He put his hand on hers. Did she want to stop? No. She wanted to read. And maybe, just maybe she wanted someone to kiss her too. She didn't remember kissing except for what she'd seen on TV and it was far more exciting in person. It felt a little wrong too, but she wasn't sure why exactly...
She felt a breath on her lips and that was enough warning to let her know he was closing in. She had to get this thought thing under control.
His lips were soft as they pressed against hers.
No, she was the boss. She needed to steer. And right now she was steering her thought toward the tattoo on her arm. N-O-E-L G-A-G-E. She remembered reading it on the subway, or as close to actual reading as she got, anyway.
She opened her mouth to his. Simple as that.
He'd first noticed her tattoo when they shook hands one day. Noel Gage. And an address. She lived there. Did she live there? The memory changed to the place where Aedus used to live. He walked through an apartment that wasn't this apartment, but it wasn't his parent's home either. Must have been a crappy middle step. The memory changed to what must have been Aedus' parents sitting together in church. Noel recognized his strong chin in his father's chin. The memory changed to seeing Aedus' father's chin getting slugged. That wasn't right. Noel needed to see Aedus' father teaching Aedus to read.
And there it was. The book in front of her was the book she'd seen earlier. It looked just the same. He read to her and she followed his finger with her eyes as he showed Aedus how to put the letters together. Aedus remembered squirming. He would have rather been playing. Just as he'd said it was, that was how he remembered it.
And he remembered reading other things too. High school, Lit class in college, reading dirty jokes online, reading his facebook page and a hundred million street signs and names and address on envelopes.
Noel realized that the stubbly feeling under her hands was just that. Stubble. She had his face in her hands. She had leaned forward when the information started getting good.
Once she realized what she was doing, she backpedaled immediately. "O-okay." She was really starting to hate that word.
She had his face in her hands and things heated up for a moment until Aedus came up for air as Noel seemed to have other Ideas for her mouth, she wanted it for speaking. He looked at her pleasantly dazed and smiled. “Okay.” He agreed and momentarily it seemed like he was coming back to his senses to what was important. “Did it work?” He looked at her earnestly wondering if she was quite potentially the best student…ever.
He raised his eyebrows in anticipation of a positive answer.
Did it work? She didn't have the words, she just nodded until her forehead was resting against his. Her hands she let slide back down to his shoulder.
Yeah. Once she knew that she was the one driving, she took the car exactly where she'd wanted to. "Quiz me?" Which reminded her... "You didn't finish like any of the books you were supposed to in high school." Now she at least needed to go finish The Grapes of Wrath and Moby Dick. Did he ever get his whale? She wanted to know.
The thrill that Aedus felt flowed over him, it was amazing to help someone so effortlessly and with such an impact. He chuckled lightly and kissed her lightly on the lips, a peck in celebration.
“Those books killed me in school; every page was a torturous moment I wasn’t on the soccer field. But that is beside the point. What was the former preacher’s name in Grapes of wrath? And what did the whale bite off of cap’n Ahab in moby dick? ”
His hands found themselves on her thighs not grabbing but resting there comfortably. He couldn’t have been happier.
