The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Aedus responded with the answers encouraging her as they went, they fell into a decent rhythm. He at the very least felt comfortable with the process, He was pretty sure it helped that they started with Sesame street, It took the edge off. He wondered momentarily if it was the vision that told him to watch the PBS show or if it would have happened authentically without it. Would he have learned about Noel naturally if He didn’t force the prediction into truth? Was it a good thing that he did? Would it have happened organically if not?
“Hmmmm, I’ve never been called patient before, So, I’ll take it. And as far as the suffering goes, would you believe me if I told you I was enjoying myself?” And He was, He was thoroughly enjoying being useful. “You must be pretty good if you’ve been getting away with it for so long.” He was honestly impressed; she would have to be skilled at what she did to be able to get away with not reading at all. As they continued through the alphabet time ticked by and Aedus was beginning to have to stifle a yawn here or there. It wasn’t that he was ready to call it a night; it was that he got up early this morning to cover someone else’s shift. He had tomorrow off however, so he didn’t have anything to get up for either.
“Do you have to work tomorrow? I don’t, but I got to say I am starting to lose some brain function. You can stay the night if you like.” He held his hands up in surrender. “No strings attached.” He let a smile touch his lips remembering how cautious she was about how this wasn’t a date. “We could pick up again in the morning, if you want to.”
Well of course he was having fun, he already knew all the answers! Noel's brain was starting to seriously hurt. And his yawns weren't making her eyes want to stay open any better.
"I don't like lying to people. It just complicates things. Pretending to be something I'm not is equal to if not worse than a lie all the time." She practiced her lowercase q a couple times extra. Stupid curly bits were a little confusing sometimes. She knew at this point that she could recognize the letters, but always making them the right way was a bit hard... she felt out of practice.
"I don't work a full shift, I don't think. I'll have to check, but I don't think I'll be staying over either." Noel tossed down her pencil and rubbed her eyes and her aching eyebrows. "Not that it wouldn't be easier... but... mind if I come back in the morning instead?" For as comfortable as she'd gotten hanging around just the two of them, he was still a stranger in ther end.
“I prefer honesty as well, it keeps me out of trouble, but in that case I can understand it, the truth might complicate things just as much or more.”
Aedus nodded in understanding. He thought the sesame street might put her at ease, and they had been getting along just fine. He’d offer to let her keep the gun in here but he didn’t want to sound to desperate for her to stay either. “Yeah, you can come back tomorrow morning. it’s understandable, and I thought you might not want to, but I figured I’d offer anyhow. Can I walk you home? Or to the bus stop or subway or where ever?“
Aedus jotted his address down on a piece of scrap paper, He wrote his name and then his phone number, he then handed her the piece of paper and read it to her quietly.
Even if Aedus had been a girl, Noel probably wouldn't have stayed over. Not this soon. Not until she really knew him. "Gives me a chance to get my cleaning kit and stuff." Yeah. And stuff.
"Actually, yeah. Walking me to the station would be great, just don't get jumped on your way back in." Noel looked around all the stuff she'd brought in. Only... they'd cooked and eaten it. She didn't really have anything and she felt rather good about leaving the gun disassembled. Someone who didn't know how to use one, shouldn't have one in working order.
So she at least tried to tidy up the papers. If this were her room she would have left it all willy nilly. But this wasn't her room.
And then all that was left was to put on the coat and walk out the door. "Thanks for making dishes for me." Well and dinner too, but that sorta went along with the making of dishes.
What was a cleaning kit? He assumed it was shampoo and soap, but no she wasn’t staying the night…Oh the gun! “that makes sense.”
“You either, I really don’t mind seeing you all the way home if you wanted, it is late.” He would feel really bad if something happened to her and he didn’t walk her home. Then again he couldn’t quite say why but it felt like she could handle business if needed. Maybe it was the way she carried herself, maybe it was the way she took apart a gun with ease. Maybe it was the way she was sincerely cautious. Regardless it was a gut feeling and in spite of it he’d offer anyway.
“My pleasure, we can have waffles tomorrow.” He offered, and realized he shouldn’t have. He should have just made them and gave them to her, she’d eat them that way, this way she might feel obligated to bring something…she shouldn’t. He grabbed his coat and slipped it on. Making sure he had his wallet and keys as well. If he was jogging he might have left his wallet, but she might change her mind about the escort home.
"Nah. The station is fine. It's a really short walk from my stop anyway." Noel hid a yawn behind her hand. She was a security guard. Surely that meant that she knew how to handle herself.
Also she did appreciate him sounding out the letters for her when he read off his address. His name, she knew. But the spelling was WAY not what she would have guessed. And luckily there didn't seem to be any letters that she hadn't covered yet. The end of the alphabet didn't seem to be all that popular.
"I'd like that. The waffles, I mean. You're going to spoil me with all this home cooked stuff." She probably wasn't ever going to say no to it though. It was the most peaceful a meal could be and she didn't ever expect to have a steady flow of home cooked meals.
Noel stuffed her hands in her pockets as they walked. "Where'd you learn to cook?" It only just occurred to her that she could also learn to cook. And she could use her power to learn that. And thens he could have home cooked meals. It seemed like she was missing a piece of that puzzle still, some problem she was forgetting, but still. It was a fun thought.
“Well, I won’t stalk you, so I guess I’ll just have to agree.” He smiled and turned and locked his apartment behind him. He had good trust worthy neighbors, they looked out for each other so He wasn’t too worried about it, but it never hurt to take the extra step.
“Good! I like to cook, but I can’t seem to cook for one. I always make too much, So I am happy to have someone to share the food with. Otherwise I force myself to eat the left overs and by the time it is gone, I really want to eat something else.”
“I come from a big Irish family, so, you can do one of three things in a big family. You can stay near the kitchen and be the first in line for food, you can learn to cook and wait until the kitchen is free and make your own food, or you can starve. I chose to make my own food though I would help my mom aunts and grandma in there too, that is where the majority of the skill comes from. You tend to want to do it right if you are being threatened with a wooden spoon.”
He breathed a puff of cold fog of air out as they exited the building. It was a nice crisp chill that had him waking up a bit, he wondered if he would fall asleep or stay up with Noel on the mind.
"There's a kitchen where I live. A fridge too, but nobody ever cooks. I don't think any of us know how..." They mostly kept apples, salads, steaks, sandwich meat and bottles of water in there. Nothing that they had to cook, especially since the steaks were for black eyes rather than eating. That's what she got living in a house of men. They mostly all ate out.
A big Irish family... Noel found herself wondering for maybe the first time if she had any family. Nobody had ever brought it up before, but surely everyone had a family. Why did no one else talk about it?
"Is your family... living here?" She would like to meet them if they were. Not because she was worthy of meeting, but because she wanted to see a real family in action. A real big one sounded nice.
“I do that half of the time, If I have no one to share with it feels like a waste of effort. So I eat simple stuff or go out to eat. I need to buy stock in that place. We could do cooking lessons sometime if you wanted to.” He pointed out a pizzeria on the corner, As they walked along.
Ohhh, he should have seen that coming. She sounded wistful though so he felt guilty about his bitterness towards the family. “ Yeah,…” he let out a sigh. “we have been in New York since my great great great grandparents immigrated. Everyone is here. Thanks’s giving is coming up; probably the next time I’ll be seeing them, if you want some great home cooking you could come, though they’d either try to marry you off to me, or they’d convince themselves you were my girlfriend…or who knows, you’re welcome to come but fair warning there is hijinx to be had.” It would be nice to have someone there that was neutral and they might even force themselves to treat him a bit differently in her presence. Or maybe they wouldn’t and he’d live to regret it.
Thanksgiving, huh? "I should check in with MacMillain, see if we have anything planned." It would probably be Chinese food if that was the case. Chinese was the only thing open. And he was kind of family... kind of.
"But if you want a pal to back you up, we can work something out. No offense, but I don't think I'll be getting married any time soon. Surely they'd have to accept that from somebody who can taste a lie." Noel's talents were many. Brutal honesty and believeability were chief among them. Besides, worst case scenario, she could make somebody forget that they wanted to marry Aedus off at all.
And just like that, they were at the stairs that led down to the subway. After a little bit of hesitation, Noel offered her hand to Aedus. "See you tomorrow? Like is 10 too late?"
The pal part stung slightly but the not marrying him wasn’t insulting at all, he hadn’t meant to come off as if he were proposing. And she could taste a lie now? So, her abilities varied a bit past simply being memory involved. Interesting, He didn’t think he had lied to her. Now he would ensure that he didn’t.
“Nah, no offense taken, Marriage is a bit um…daunting. I was just trying to give you fair warning if you wanted to come, my aunts and Ma seem to think every man should have a woman to keep him in line. To be fair it seems to be true for my uncles and Da.”
Aedus shook Noel’s hand and while he was a it tempted to give it a peck, it didn’t fit. And the last tiem he did that he found out that the girl was involved in some wicked bad stuff, Her hands were really smooth, they weren’t quite lotion soft, but they felt nice too. Aedus grinned. “Ten means I can sleep in and still have time to cook.” He might need the time to sleep. He waited and watched her go down the stairs keeping an eye out for her until she disappeared around a corner.
He turned around and started to make his way home. He got to his apartment without incident no muggings on this side of things…he should have told her to call him when she was home safe…now he would have to reassure himself she made it home fine until 10.
Handshake and she was off. Home, shower, bed time necessities. She gathered what she would need for tomorrow, set an alarm and looked at the piece of paper with the letters that told her where Aedus lived. When she sounded it out, it wasn't smooth at all. And she already knew what these words were. Bleh. This reading business was harder than she'd thought.
Lights out.
Alarm rings.
Time to go running. Shower. Was she supposed to do something or bring something? The gun kit! She grabbed it on her way out the door.
Noel looked over the tattoo on her wrist and traced the letters as she rode the subway back. N-O-E-L G-A-G-E. Noh-eel. Gah-gee. Noel was her name, not "no eel" like the spelling suggested, but Gage was a horrible last name.
She regretted not taking the time to blow dry her hair when she exited the subway station and was greeted with a NorEaster to the face. Brrr. Noel trotted the few blocks to the building she thought she recognized and double checked the letters on the side with her slip of paper.
Soon enough she was knocking on a door that she was pretty sure matched the marks on the paper.
Aedus entered his apartment and grinned, he enjoyed making the world better, and She was innocent in a why he couldn’t quite liken to anyone he had met; it wasn’t a childish innocence more of a matter of fact innocence, that seemed to take the world for what it was. no pre existing notions about how or what it should be. He did pull ups until he managed to get exhausted once more. When laying down didn’t prove to make him pass out he followed up with pushups and then managed to get some sleep. His phone started to vibrate in his pajama pocket and he woke up, jumping from his bed. It worked well to wake him up for important occurrences, but his battery suffered for it.
Aedus had gone for a run, picked up the couple of things he was missing for perfect waffles. He got home, showered, brushed his teeth and got everything set up for a educational day. He whipped the cream into a light cloud like mixture, he sliced up little fruits that would complement the dish and made glorious fluffy waffles. He also spent about an hour on the phone with his mother while he cooked; he had attempted to end the conversation seventy-six times, she did however give him a tip that made the waffles that much better. He finished the waffles as she rapped on the door. He pulled the syrup from the micro wave and set it on a pot holder.
“Morning Noel.” Aedus stepped aside and let the morning aroma of breakfast hit her. “Come on in. I figured we could eat and watch today.”
It was warm in the apartment from all the cooking. There were little sliced fruits and... the smell tried to roll her up in a hug. Her eyes may or may not have watered just a little.
"It's like a magazine in here." Was she still in the doorway? She didn't want to ruin the picture perfect spread of deliciousness. But then again she wanted to gobble it all up. Noel wiped her wet hair out of her face and felt totally out of place. She was so not put together. Not like this. "You would make an awesome housewife." And she meant that with every honest fiber of her being as a compliment. Part of her wanted to propose and she hadn't even gotten any waffle yet.
Noel sat the little leather bag down on a chair. It didn't deserve to be up on the table near the perfection that was golden brown and waffle.
"You really made all this? No fooling?" She followed his lead and slipped a golden delight onto a plate. She popped bits of fruit down into the squares and drizzled the whole thing with a bottle of something that happened to contain a few letters they hadn't yet covered.
And they were back on the couch, Sesame Street was back on the TV and Noel enjoyed a little flashback of Aedus on the phone with his mother as she ate. The conversation was jumbled and out of order. It seemed he'd cut the fruit first, she could at least tell that much.
She wasn't sure when she realized it, but she was smiling enough that her scar tugged the expression a bit off kilter.
Aedus guwaffed a laugh at the remark. He shook his head lightly but couldn’t help but think it was funny. “I’ll take the awesome part of it and try to look the other way from the housewife part. But, yeah. I’m good.” He shut the door behind her and was glad he resisted putting an apron on. He had reverted back to house clothes which put him in a pair of yellow and white swim trunks and a plain white tee shirt, his feet were free from the socks and shoes that typically oppressed them.
“As genius as it would be to order and try to take the credit, it is much more satisfying to make. Besides you mentioned there is no fooling you right?” He was happy she had a definite up side to her powers, he was going to feel like she got shysted out of a mutation if all she could do was forget, though she did say she could make others forget as well.
His phobia nipped at his mind again telling him it was unhealthy to run from trees when they gathered but he persisted that it wasn’t right to let go. He sat on the Coach and watched as Big bird and Elmo threw a singing v back and forth. He caught a rather genuine smile on Noel’s face and savored it. She should smile like that more often.
