The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Stephen laughed, noticing her reaction to the shadow's touch. "It's not a normal feeling, I know. Feels sort of like velvet; not what I expected the first time either."
He felt lucky to have a mutation with so few negative side-effects; he could not imagine what Kealey was going through, feeling like a danger to herself and those she cared about. "So it sounds like your power's doing some weird stuff. Well, I'll tell you one thing; I could not have your power.
"If my mutation was going haywire, I don't have anyone who'd help me out. Certainly not a significant other who'd be there when I needed it most." For a girl like Kealey, he was sure not even a pscho-emotional bomb would not keep that man from being there for her. A second shadow hand picked up his coffee and brought it to his lips. That was the problem with being able to use his mutation openly: it made him very lazy. "We're all lucky; it's just in different ways." Some of us have simple mutations and some of us aren't drifter criminals.

Velvet, yes. That’s what the shadow had felt like. Almost. And at least that was the closest description that made any sense. Kelaey listened as Nate spoke, and nodded her head at polite intervals to show she was listening, which she was. Her new friend’s words helped put things in perspective, and Kealey stared thoughtfully across the table as she worked them over in her head as he used his shadow to drink his coffee.
“He’s always there.” Kealey said after a moment, ” I guess it’s me I have the problem with.”
As to the end of Nate’s statement and the feelings that went with it...
”And I never expected to find anyone. New York is a pretty amazing city. You might be shocked who you’ll run into. Or who might run into you.”
"I'll never have a simple mutation, but your luck might change."
"You'll figure it out. Things eventually sort themselves out for sweet girls like you." It was a lie if he was judging based on his past experiences; sweet and innocent was often the recipe for disappointment and disaster around Stephen, but if he ever had an unselfish desire for a stranger, it was the desire to see things work out for Kealey.
She was so sweet that she wanted to give Stephen hope. Stephen smiled; hope was not in the thief's toolbox. "Thank you, sweetheart, but I've learned we make our own luck, and some southern boys are just stuck in their ways."
His coffee was finished and Stephen had spent more time in The Full Circle than he ever anticipated he would in any coffee shop. He stood from his seat. "I should be gettin' along. It's my first day in New York and I was hoping to catch a ballgame. I do think I'll be coming here again, so I expect to see you around. It was... enlightening to talk to you." His shadow extended to offer a farewell handshake. "If I ever get curious about that Xavier place, I'll look you up."
