The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He hadn't expected Sam to want him to come to the Danger Room today. Andrew had just figured on another day of seeing to what he was hired for with a bit of free time that he'd probably fill with either training with Rhy or trying to help the girl with her English. Muay Thai with Rhy had nothing on being in the Danger Room with Sam. Andrew meant no offense to the slightly younger girl. Lord knew she was good enough and strong enough even without her power to leave him bruised every time they trained.
The Danger Room was something else entirely though. Coming here with Sam to train was nerve wracking but Andrew was glad of it none the less. Well, if that was what they were there for that is. After all, Sam wouldn't bring him here if he thought he was entirely without merit. At least Andrew hoped as much. He didn't really know his boss well enough to say what he would or wouldn't do in any given situation.
Andrew still hadn't said anything to Sam about joining the X's. Despite what progress he'd made and the strength he'd gained he still didn't think he was ready. Hopefully whatever he was doing in the Danger Room today would help push him toward that goal.
"So what are we doing?"
Having only been in the Danger Room a handful of times Andrew sort of had to wonder why Sam had wanted him here and for what. Hence the question. Well he'd probably see soon enough in either case.

Leaning over and stretching out his back and his legs Sam let out a small groan feeling the pull of his muscles, knots from hours before soon dulled and Sam looked over to the entrance of the Danger Room to see his ‘assistant’ Andrew enter with a look that explained that he was still confused about his position.
Sam smirked and replied with an imitation that required a darker tone, ”The same thing we do everyday pinky, try and take over the world!” Sam let out a small laugh and pulled his arm across his chest stretching his shoulder. ”You all stretched out?” Sam asked returning to his normal tone one that carried a serious tone hidden by his light heartedness.
For some time now Sam needed help around the mansion, paper work, classes and greeting it was the trifecta that he had been working for some time around the mansion and seeing as Streak hadn’t been around as much and Shin not having as much time Sam knew it was time to find someone else. Then Andrew appeared and poorly attempted to mug him, something Sam rewarded by giving Andrew a job. Not usually how most people would think would happen but Sam thought of himself as an out of the box thinker. It just seemed right at the time and seeing as Andrew was more than helpful with the paper work Sam continued to see what else he was capable of.
Here he was now in the danger room waiting on Sam to see what he had planned. ”Practice, you’re my assistant so it is only natural we get some practice in. I’m a self defense instructor and my assistant is worse off than some of my students.” Sam walked up to Andrew and grabbed Andrew by the hand and turned his wrist and put it in a basic joint lock. ”Can’t have that can we?” Sam asked holding it but making sure he didn’t put Andrew in an extreme amount of pain.
Andrew was a nice guy and it was Sam’s goal right now to toughen him up a bit. It was going to require a lot of hard work but that was why Sam had picked Andrew to be his assistant. Why pick someone that wouldn’t have to try to be good?

Andrew gave a laugh at the old line from Pink and the Brain that came out of Sam's mouth. It was unexpected but lightened the mood a little. Of course it didn't stay there since Sam got serious directly afterward but it was a good way to start things off. He gave a nod in response to the question about being stretched out. He'd done plenty of that before coming down here, since he'd figured that whatever they'd be doing would be physical. The speech about practice that followed and the joint lock made Andrew glad he'd gotten in a few scrapes and been training regularly outside of the Mansion. He was able to stand still and allow the wrist lock to happen without freaking out and injuring himself.
Instead he brought up the hand that wasn't being held and darted it forward in a jab. It wasn't as strong as he could make it because he wasn't trying to hurt Sam. That was something he doubted he could do. However it wasn't weak either.
"I've been practicing in my free time Sam. Boxing and more recently Muay Thai. I've been busy when I wasn't handling your paperwork."
Between training and the fight's he'd managed to get himself into Andrew figured he was better at defending himself. Much better than when he'd met Sam. Of course he didn't think he was anywhere near where he needed to be but it was good for a start. He wondered if this would turn into a spar between him and Sam. If it did Andrew was pretty sure his goose wasn't just cooked that it was burnt to a crisp...or would ice cubed be more appropriate? He gave a mental shrug over it. It didn't matter that much how he described his swift defeat in that scenario.

It was a whole lot better than Sam had last remembered, ”Good!” Sam said encouragingly glad that Andrew had become far more confident than he was when they had first met. If Andrew tried to hold up a store at knifepoint now, he might have put Sam on edge if he didn’t know who he was. ”I can tell!” Sam said releasing the lock and lifting his hand guide the jab out of the way quickly. It was minimal contact between Andrew and Sam so when he guided it to the side he stepped forward and to the side of his assistant turning his blind eye towards him.
”Just means I should give you more paper work shouldn’t I?” Sam asked smirking and pivoting gaining more distance between them. ”No, I think I’d rather have you learn more, Muay Thai huh?” Sam said taking another step back and raising his hands into a guard, ”Well I guess I should see what you learned so far!”
A digital clock appeared in the danger room and then Sam added, ”Now, ten minutes should be enough, don’t get hit and at the same time try to hit me!” Sam jumped forward closing the distance he had made seconds ago and threw a hook to Andrew’s sternum attempting to knock the wind out of him. ”I have no intention of letting you win so make sure you work for it!” Leaving his left rib open to a kick or jab Sam continued forward wondering if Andrew had learned enough to notice what an opening looked like.

Sam appeared pleased with his impromptu punch. As predicted the man was easily able to move out of the way. Andrew was neither was strong as Sam nor anywhere near as experienced. Even if he could match Sam in terms of power Andrew's matches with Jorge had proven that experience would give him an edge. Sam quickly got out of range, making a quip about giving him more paperwork to do and suggesting they spar. Well, less suggested and more initiated a spar anyway. Andrew's hands came up into a guard position as well.
"I'd find time anyway. Even you can't make enough paperwork to keep me busy 24/7." Andrew smirked back at Sam.
He was ignoring Sam's chatter now. Sure he wanted to retort but considering he was up against someone stronger and more skilled he needed to focus.
"I'll do my best." was all he allowed himself to say before using one hand to block the hook and following that with a quick knee to the opening Sam had left. It was probably intentional. He didn't think Sam would leave that sort of opening if it had been a real fight. He didn't figure that Sam would need all of those ten minutes he'd given them to win. That didn't mean he intended to give anything less than his utmost. Winning wasn't his objective. No, Andrew intended make this spar stretch out as long as he could. It was a challenge he was setting for himself, more than anything else.

A decent block followed up with a decent strike, however Sam could feel the upcoming strike with the knee. Good, he knew what an opening looked like which meant that Sam wouldn’t have to give Andrew a bunch of freebies like he was planning on doing originally. ”Careful what you wish for! I can arrange a few more hours of paper work if need be, there is a back up of paperwork of residents that had moved out!”
Jumping and throwing his hand down Sam turned into Andrew’s knee and pushed it back propelling both of them in the opposite direction. ”Not bad!” Sam said glad to praise Andrew after a clear increase in his abilities, strength and speed.
”Don’t know who you’ve been training with but it’s clear they know what’s what.” Sam said his feet already pushing off the ground as he landed and charged forward throwing a low roundhouse kick to Andrew’s base leg hoping to tap him hard enough for him to lose balance if it managed to connect. If Sam hit Andrew it wouldn’t have been over, Sam just wanted to see how much Andrew had progressed, which meant there was stillroom for error.

He wasn't anywhere near ready for anything major. Andrew knew that. Still, the praise from Sam after the man blocked his knee made Andrew feel good about the progress he'd made so far. His training with Jorge and Rhythm was paying off it seemed. Andrew grinned at Sam and nodded. Once the fight was over he'd tell Sam who he'd learned what from. For now, he needed to focus. Sam was charging in again and Andrew tightened up his guard in response. He saw the kick and moved to get away but wasn't quite fast enough. It came in far more swiftly than he'd anticipated and Andrew was sufficiently thrown off balance to stumble and very nearly fall. He recovered, even though it was slower than he liked and began thinking up a counter attack.
Feeling more comfortable with the boxing punches he'd learned than any of the muay thai strikes that Rhythm had taught him Andrew closed in and unleashed a barrage of light punches meant only for distraction. When he felt the timing was right he aimed a solid left hook at Sam's chest. Hopefully it would hit. If not at least he would have tried and would know that it would be more a defensive game for him this time than offensive.
However Andrew was growing used to fighting defensively. Most everyone he tangled with was stronger than him, more skilled than him, or both. It was getting easier to stop or get out of the way of the attacks and then find a place and time to strike. Hopefully it would work here to run the clock out on Sam.

The kick landed and Andrew was thrown off balance, a balance that he eventually found again as a few seconds passed by on the large digital clock overhead. Not paying much attention to the clock however Sam watched and prepared for a barrage of quick jabs. It seemed that it was more than just Muay Thai that Andrew had learned then again he could have very well knew how to punch before hand, he just never really revealed that much to Sam.
One, then two then three followed by a few more quick punches Sam managed to see coming and re-direct slightly to the side, it was then he noticed the hook that Andrew seemed to be saving for the right moment, a moment that Andrew manage to find because when Sam saw it coming all he could do was turn his chest slightly to the side and turn his hand into Andrew’s inching it off course. The hook however managed to hit his chest and Sam felt a few of Andrew’s knuckles scrape off his chest. ”Hoooo!” Sam said with a smirk followed by a quick exhale to expel all excess air left in his lungs so he didn’t happen to get the wind knocked out of him.
”Timing and targeting are good!” Sam praised as he grabbed hold of Andrew’s arm and put it into another lock one that forced Andrew’s arm to look like a chicken wing. ”few minutes left Andrew, seconds count!” hand on the chest and Sam let go of Andrew’s arm and pushed him away creating some distance between the two. ”Don’t tell me you’re getting tired?” Sam mocked.

Andrew was surprised that he was getting as much praise from CS as he was. He'd thought he was a lot worse than that. He wasn't going to complain. He'd put a lot of hard work into improving his ability to attack and defend. Andrew had been tired of not being able to fend for himself since his mutation had nothing to offer in the form of protection and in fact on invited attempts to take advantage of it. So the praise combined with the extremely gratifying knowledge that Sam hadn't entirely gotten out of the way of the left hook was good. It gave him a measure of how much his hard work had improved him and how much he still had left to go. This level of ability wasn't the end. No, he was going to keep working at it.
After all, he now lived a life that brought him into contact with extremely dangerous people on a daily basis. People that could easily take advantage of him, hurt him, or even kill him. It didn't matter that he'd survived the only attempts that had been made and that no one really seemed to want him dead. Andrew wanted to be prepared in case someone ever did and his luck, which was shakey at best, failed him like it had few times before. Andrew winced lightly as his arm was contorted into another lock before Sam shoved him away to put some distance between them. He made a note to learn some joint locks somewhere. They seemed to be pretty handy.
At Sam's taunt Andrew rolled his eyes.
"Hardly. But are you? After all, you just keep disengaging...it's enough to make a guy wonder Sam."
Andrew smirked right back at Sam. He still didn't feel too much like trading quips but if that was what it took to get Sam to attack then so be it. Andrew's guard remained up even as he smirked at Sam. He could play a waiting game.

A quick shift of the head and the eye and Sam could see the clock, less then a minute now. It was odd how quick passed during his training sessions. Before he started to debate about extending the time frame Sam moved to the side and his body along with his head and eye dodged… nothing, Sam smirked and then nodded his head with a small laugh. ”I call it maintaining a safe distance, with the way you have been throwing punches, they might even hurt if you manage to hit me.” Sam said tauntingly shifting his wait forward and then jolting towards Andrew.
Leg in the air at first he tucked it close and then shot it out quickly aiming a jumping kick towards Andrew’s guard. He put enough power in it to knock the guy back, which is what he wanted to do. He had seen what Andrew could do offensively but defensively? It was the time to get a little more aggressive. ”It’s almost you forgot what the point of this little session was,” Sam said landing down his body crouching to soften the impact so his knees wouldn’t take the brunt of the weight when he landed on his feet.
Shifting his weight and bringing up a fist into an uppercut Sam aimed it at Andrew’s midsection with enough force to knock the wind out of him if he didn’t get out of the way. ”Your skilled, far more so when we first met, however you still got a lot to learn, like when to strike and when to put some distance between you and your partner.”
The clock above continued to count down, less than thirty seconds left now. Then the buzzer would be heard.

He smirked, trying not to give into the taunting. However Sam's quick explanation also provided yet another compliment, albeit a somewhat backhanded one. Andrew was almost beginning to wonder who he was trying to convince with them. Sam didn't give him time to think though. Instead the man launched into a jumping kick that had Andrew giving ground. That one would have his arms aching somewhat for taking it instead of dodging as would have been a more intelligent move. Andrew saw the uppercut coming and managed to back off the few steps required to avoid the blow in time and was surprised that he'd done so.
Sam's assessment was getting a lot more even now. Here he was pointing out faults. While it wasn't as nice to hear as the praise Andrew still welcomed it since he knew darn well that he wasn't where he should be at all. He gave Sam a grim smile as he took the opportunity to attack while Sam was, hopefully, off guard and off balance from the uppercut. Andrew angled a kick of his own toward Sam.
"Yeah I know Sam. I'm hardly even decent, let alone good at this yet."
And that was his own assessment of his skills. Andrew endeavored to regain balance from his own kick before tossing out a couple more punches.
"Gotta start somewhere you know."
Despite the oddness of the situation that Sam had put him in by suddenly wanting to spar Andrew was actually enjoying himself. He took learning how to fight fairly seriously so he actually enjoyed having his weaknesses pointed out to him. Andrew was fairly certain he wouldn't match up to anyone anytime soon but that didn't mean he couldn't work on his problems anyway.

”I wouldn’t say that your not that good, just you need a little more practice.” Sam corrected as he recovered from the missed upper cut. In truth if Andrew got into a street fight right now he wouldn’t have trouble beating most people, not because he was stronger or faster Andrew just had idea on what he should be doing in a fight. Even if this were a spar session Sam would have liked Andrew to watch his back more than most.
Turning his uppercut upwards and to the side Sam turning it into a knife hand strike/block to Andrew’s shin making him want to stop the strike midway before he made any real connection to Sam’s body, due to the pain he would have received to the bone. After the block Sam smirked once the buzzer sounded and he lowered his hands and wiped the sweat from his brow.
”Not bad, not bad at all. Might also want to ice the shin, it was a good kick and a mean block on my part.” Sam inhaled slightly and stretched out his back and then lowered his level and started to stretch out his legs. Drew was a good partner, he listened well and worked hard all while keeping a level head, which brought a few questions to Sam’s attention.
”Drew you remember the camps along with all the chaos it brought in the states? Mutant hunting robots included?” It was a random question but not the first one Sam had asked Andrew since he started working for him. In fact Sam actually looked forward to the discussions he had with Andrew, mainly to hear his perspective.

The buzzer sounded moments after he received a painful strike to the shin for his troubles. That was going to hurt for a bit. Still, the spar was over and he'd done fairly well according to Sam. Andrew eased out of readiness, taking care to put his weight back on the leg that Sam had struck slowly. Taking a cue from Sam he began to stretch out some. Sam had given him a decent work out so even though he wasn't out of breathe entirely Andrew was still taking slow deep breaths to relax and get a bit more air into his lungs.
"Thanks. It was a good fight. Though I figure you could have ended it easily whenever you wanted."
Sam's next question came right out of left field for Andrew. He'd come to expect such things from Sam from time to time though so Andrew rolled with it and answered.
"I remember them. I laid low. With my mutation it was pretty easy to hide, though I was scared out of my mind the whole time. Then again that was sort of a natural state for me back then. The chaos and the robots just gave me something real to fear."
Andrew sighed, he didn't mind point out just how pathetic he was to Sam. Not now that he was working to over come it. He looked over at his boss inquisitively.
"Why do you ask?"
Lord knew where Sam meant for this to go. Andrew figured he'd find out, sooner or later.

Nodding his head Sam smiled, ”Sadly I didn’t know much about them until the very end, I was doing my own running and hiding.” Sam said dismissively before he added, ”Story for another time.” a story Sam was sure he would one day have to tell t Andrew seeing as his past had a nasty knack for resurfacing and bringing his friends and loved ones into danger the most recent victim happened to be Gawain.
”Fear is a natural response,” Sam said nodding his head and shifting his body into another stance in an attempt to stretch out his quads some more. ”Hatred, it seemed was also common.” Sam said remembering what some of his fellow X’s said and what a few of them had done. Sam also recalled the conversation he had with Sara the Werecat about how she saw members of his own team take the lives of the guards at the camps. Something he could understand but would never approve of even when he lost his eye in Romania he still never took the lives of the guards and he made damn sure that members of his team did the same.
”Computer, S-231” the danger room responded with forming a stalker bot next to Sam. The robot remained lifeless and still while Sam walked over to it and rested his arm on it. ”It’s funny if you think about it… something so advanced something that could be used for such greatness as turned into a weapon out of fear.” Sam gave the robot a little push and he turned his attention back to Andrew. ”Walk with me.”
Turning to the main exit of the danger room Sam continued to carry the conversation on, ”It’s safe to assume without fear of people like us mutants, these robots wouldn’t even be brought into existence correct?” Sam asked as the danger room doors ‘whooshed’ open and Sam exited the room as the lights behind him went off. ”Humor me, you’ll understand my point shortly.”

He arched a single eyebrow at Sam but didn't inquire as to what he'd been running from or why. Sam would get around to telling him in his own time if Drew needed to know. For now he stayed quiet and let Sam talk. He seemed to have a lot to say. The comment on fear followed by hatred got to him a bit. They were both things he was struggling with. His eyes moved to the bot that the Danger Room materialized and he suppressed a shudder. Drew was just glad that it wasn't moving.
"That seems to be the way of things though. Given the opportunity to do something great help or some great harm, harm seems to win out most of the time."
Andrew didn't pretend to be a psychologist or philosopher. It just seemed to him that bad things tended to happen more than good. Sam told him to walk with him and given that he was his boss and seemed to be trying to go somewhere with this whole speech Andrew followed. As they exited the danger room Andrew sent another quizzical expression at Sam.
"It's a fair assumption I guess. Mutants are on another level entirely from anything else they've gotten themselves worked up into a frenzy of fear over. Our differences tend to be more dangerous than a different skin color or gender preference."
Andrew fell silent. Sam usually had a point with these asides and he claimed he had one this time but he couldn't see where this one was going.
