The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mina was determined not to tell the woman anything so, despite feeling a bit murderous, she said nothing until Lenna mentioned not wanting their disagreements to get in the way of the job. That made Cosmina snort.
"I've worked with people much more disagreeable than you. I'm also a professional. I won't let such things get in the way of my job."
No matter how much she disliked a person she never let such things get in the way of doing her job. The only time she allowed that was when the person in question attempted to kill her. Anything less than that was fair game no matter how much she disliked it. Heck, if the money was good she could work alongside anyone.
"That's funny." Lenna stated seriously. "Because so have I. Can I at least ask why you asked me personal questions, though? If you didn't want to bond, or do some weird sort of assassin girl talk of which I am not familiar? Usually, it's fairly unprofessional to dig like that..."
Yes, Lenna could be a hypocrite if the hypocrite she was dealing with was being obstinate. And she was. Lenna knew this woman was a hypocrite. Because it took one to know one.
"If all else fails, I'll just assume you don't want to talk about love because either A) you've never had it, or B) someone has burned you in the past. Probably the latter." It seemed likely for a mercenary-style woman like her.
"Satisfying my curiosity." Lenna replied. Tersely. "You opened yourself up for the question, I think. That's usually how girl talk goes, if my research is correct. Wow." What a startling revelation. "We assassins must make terrible girls."
Especially Mina. Mina was the worst girl. Not even believing in... love. Wait. What? Why had she thought that thought? Back to catty remarks! If they kept this up, they might commit murder before they committed murder. Wasn't there a television show with a person who had a catch phrase like that? Television sure was stupid. When it wasn't marathoning good movies.
"I'll bet you wouldn't even like Casablanca," Lenna muttered, flopping back on the bed, hands laced behind her head. She stared at the ceiling with a smirk. She had Cosmina there. One who didn't believe in love couldn't possibly enjoy a movie like that.
Mina let Lenna finish talking before she did anything. Then she nodded in agreement, slowly.
"We do, make horrible girls that is. Anyone that made a good girl could never do what we do."
However at the comment about Casablanca Mina started.
"Actually...I like that movie."
Though it probably wasn't for the reasons most people did. Mina liked it because she'd watched it with her dad while he was busy dying of cancer. She didn't really understand the characters or why they did what they did to this day. However she liked it because she'd watched it with her dad.
Had they just bonded? Because when she agreed with Lenna on one thing, then told her she actually liked Casablanca, it had felt like they'd bonded. There was something off about that. Something strange.
Agreeing with the woman was strange. They'd been openly hostile, and then... strange. But better than at each others throats.
"So." Lenna ventured, cautiously. "What other movies do you like?"
For the moment, she had abandoned her previous line of questioning. Maybe she'd learn more about this woman through getting a feel for her tastes in films.
From hostility to awkward agreement and now talking about movies? Boy Lenna was a weird one. Mina still didn't like her but if talking about movies made the job go smoother then who was she to argue.
"I like the James Bond pictures. They're funny."
Mina didn't feel like sharing any of the other pictures she'd watched with her father with this woman. The James Bond films she'd picked up because she liked to laugh at the villains and their stupidity. She didn't often sit sit and watch movies though. Most of her time was spent working or training herself. Her free time was normally spent in bars and clubs. The James Bond films and Casablanca were her treat for the rare days she stayed at the warehouse or was sick.
"Oh." Well, there went that discussion. Lenna lay on the bed and stared at the ceiling. "Growing up, I couldn't get enough of them. It was a peephole into the collective consciousness of America. Star Wars, Casablanca, Dirty Harry... never watched Bond, though." She made a face of distaste. Distaste at the lack of knowledge on that topic, not at the content. "Eliana could only get so many things."
She supposed this was a dead end topic? Damn. And they'd theoretically been bonding. Boy, were they bad at anything and everything normal people did, except drink and lie.
Mina was aware that Lenna was still talking when she rolled over to go to sleep. It was rather hard to miss her babbling on about some movie or another. She even thought she heard a name. Mina was more concerned with being well rested for the job tomorrow though. They had a woman to kill. It wouldn't do to be sleepy and miss a shot. Talkative mercenary assassins and their attempts to bond could fly a kite.
As Mina fell slowly to sleep her drowsy mind reminded her that she didn't really like the woman all that much and it seemed to be mutual so perhaps she shouldn't show her her back. Mina sleepily told her mind where to shove it and continued to fall asleep. She couldn't be bothered with such trifles right now.
No answer. No response. No anything. The woman she'd been talking to, Lenna eyed. She had gone to sleep.
A keen variety of coarse words came to mind to describe a woman like her, in numerous languages. Lenna did not sigh. She did not do much of anything to show any emotion, other than kick off her shoes, hit the lights, and climb into bed.
This woman had annoyed her, and made her want to kill something. Luckily, tomorrow brought just such an outlet for their troubles. The mission was a success.
