The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

”Well, if you do make a cent. Part of it is mine.” she said, slipping the comment in, with a sly grin. It was a good joke, at any rate, and one she’d let run until it got old. Aurum would make money, Riley was sure of it. People ate up All-American boys like him…it was only a matter of time. She didn’t tell him that, though…her vote of confidence would be far too potent.
He commented on her work, and Riley looked at him intently for a moment. There was something about the way he’d said that…but it was gone in a flash and he was talking about what kind of job he’d get when he got his passing test results.
Riley nodded her head and let out a mild sigh, ”Wouldn’t that be something?” she said, ” Owning yourself…getting to do what jobs you wanted, when you wanted to do them.” So what if she was waxing on sentimental…this was good stuff.
”Too bad we live in the real world, huh?” she said, some of the mirth fading from her face. ”And getting your boss put away probably doesn’t look so hot on a resume, huh?”

"Yeah," He agreed. "Too bad." There was a moment of silence. Exactly one moment, then he continued, unperturbed. "Luckily, I have enough references to not need that guy."
He would have expanded, but the waitress returned, ready to take their orders. Aurum turned and smiled at her, rattling off his order. In a roundabout way. "I'll have what she's having." Everybody looked to Riley for confirmation. Waitress girl's note-pad pencil hand was poised for jotting.

Aurum threw her under the bus, and Riley shot him a mild glare before turning to the woman with the note pad. ”I’m just going to have a plain and simple mocha, I think.” she said, with a slight smile, ”So I guess that’s what he’s having too.”
The woman jotted the order down, then took off towards the coffee bar to get it filled. Riley let the silence stretch for a moment, then returned to the earlier topic of conversation.
”Well, I guess it’s good to see that nice guys don’t always finish last.” she said, only the tiniest hint of snark creeping into her voice.
Good lord, they’d worn out all the safe subjects. What the hell were they going to talk about now?

Aurum ignored the mild glare and the comment. He heard snark, but he remembered. Her bark was a lot worse than her bite. He laughed it off, and changed the subject.
"Tell me, what are your feelings on pie?"
Because, really, what better subject was there than food?

The waitress returned, and Riley shelved Aurum’s comment for later. She supposed it was a good thing that he’d managed to make things right for himself. After all, that’s what had ultimately happened in her case…things had worked out, even if Gerry had trashed her name for a while.
Man, now it was going to get quiet, and then it would get awkward. Riley could feel her ire rising at the situation already. Who wanted to sit around and stare at someone while they waited for coffee? Then drink the coffee and stare some more? Riley sure as heck didn’t, that was for sure. She was just about to point that out…when Aurum spoke.
About Pie.
In fact, he wanted to know what she thought about pie. It was the stupidest thing Riley had heard all day…and that was saying something. What kind of person just randomly started talking about pie? Someone who wanted to avoid awkward silences, that’s who…and Riley wasn’t impressed…she wasn’t impressed at all.
”I pretty much adore warm blueberry pie with ice cream on top. You?”
Well dammit. There went her mouth again…running off without her brain. Apparently they were talking about pie. Wee!

>>”I pretty much adore warm blueberry pie with ice cream on top. You?”
"Love it," Aurum replied. He added with a simple smile, like it was commonplace. "I make a pretty mean blueberry. Apple, too." He paused. Not self-consciously. She probably felt the need for him to explain. So he did. "My family runs a restaurant, so food is partially my lifeblood. You'd be more likely to make a cent off me when I work there, honestly. So like I said earlier. Plenty of stuff to put down on my resume. And if it doesn't work out, I've got a dream job to fall back on."

Well. Who’d have thunk? Apparently Aurum was something of a renaissance man. Lawyer, coffee bar associate, amateur detective, and now apparently….chef, his talents were varied and many. Riley raised a skeptical eyebrow as he spoke.
A family business. Now that was interesting. Apparently he was close with his family. Riley could have rolled her eyes, but didn’t. It made sense. Aurum was simply overflowing with the kind of confidence and happy disposition that could only result from a supportive and happy upbringing. It made Aurum just that little bit more dislikable, but Riley let it slide for now and latched on to what was most important in this conversation. Besides. She didn’t want to come across as jealous…not that she was, but still.
”Well then. I suppose I’ll simply have to demand royalties if you end up in the restaurant biz.”
He said he had a dream job to fall back on, but hadn’t been very specific. Riley mulled that over for a moment before asking, ”Which is the dream job?” she said, legitimate curiosity coloring her words, ”And if it’s the cooking thing…why go through all the trouble of law school?”

>>”Well then. I suppose I’ll simply have to demand royalties if you end up in the restaurant biz.”
"I think my mom has you beat," Aurum smirked.
Riley thought about something for a short while, then sprang it on him. What was the dream job?
Huh? She couldn't figure that out?
Aurum shook his head. "I thought I told you that at some point... about that guy who made me look bad back in school. About how everyone needs someone to defend them? Well... I want to defend." He was silent for a second. Aurum let it sink in. Then, he continued. "Working for my mom is one thing, but it doesn't have the same driving reason that made me take up law."

Hadn’t he told her about that? Riley frowned, no…she didn’t think he had. Then again…she’d ignored most of the things he said to her at first, in favor of glaring and snapping. Riley wasn’t embarrassed about her past behavior, in her mind Aurum had deserved everything she’d given him.
Maybe.
It didn’t matter. Riley knew the story now, and she nodded her head in recognition of his reasons. ”Well, at least you’re living a dream.” she said, cracking a slight smile as the waitress returned with their drinks. Riley nodded to the woman then took a sip. The coffee was…incredible, of course.
”But, it never hurts to have something to fall back on. Being stuck somewhere without any options is the last place you want to be.”

Aurum nodded at both her comments. He wasn't living his dream yet, but he was well on his way. It never hurt to have a backup, in case something fell through. He picked up his mocha and mulled the topic over with his drink.
"You know, I used to work here..." Aurum commented quietly. He glanced over his shoulder, towards the guy working the coffee machines. "Whoever they've got now is good."

”Really?” Riley said in response to Aurum’s revelation. ”What did the Full Circle do to lure you away?” Questions to him were easier. Questions to Aurum always seemed to have answers with some sort of deep meaning. There was a reason for everything that he’d done…and they were good reasons. Solid reasons. Hopefully he wouldn’t turn the question around on her.
She sipped her coffee, it really was good. She couldn’t help herself, she had to tease. ” Mmhmm. I think it might even be better than whatever it was you gave me that day.”

There was no deep-probing through process behind answering Riley's question. Why? Because it was simple. "I wasn't working here at the time." Aurum smiled. "I was working at my parents restaurant, helping out. If you want to know what Full Circle did to grab my loyalties (but not from here), ask away. Different question."
>>"Mmhmm. I think it might even be better than whatever it was you gave me that day."
"Really?" Aurum wasn't bugged. He wasn't the type to take pride over the top... except maybe for a joke. "You really know how to hurt a guy's feelings, you know?" He laughed calmly and shook his head.

Ah, they were playing a question game. Normally, Riley wasn’t the sort to play games. In her day, she’d played too many, and they were simply too exhausting. Games led to other games, and then people thought they were okay. Aurum though…Riley almost sighed. It was almost too easy to play, it made her leery.
Aurum pointed out that she knew how to hurt a guy’s feelings and Riley had to laugh, all troubling thoughts disappearing in lieu of current conversation.
”Feelings aren’t all I know how to hurt, Aurum.” she said with a raised eyebrow. Hopefully she knew what she meant. Riley sipped her coffee, it really was good.

Neutrality. Of. Course. Riley wasn’t surprised, not at all. It all made perfect sense when you looked at the full package that was Aurum. All the idealism a person could possibly imagine, wrapped in a pretty little Aurum blanket.
Riley took another sip of coffee to hide the bitter turn her mouth had taken. It was all so off-putting to her. Who, in this day in age, actually decided to work somewhere because they treated everyone right.? Nobody. Nobody except for Aurum.
And schedule flexibility. Riley actually rolled her eyes.
”I figured it was something like that.” she finally said.
” You really do have a thing for the whole huddled masses, ,underdog, everyone getting their day in court group, don't you?"
