CharacterPersonality: Ben is a pessimist first and foremost. He always notices the flaws in things, which is sometimes a good thing and sometimes a bad thing. Ben is also not afraid to point out these flaws, but as insults, but as facts.
However, when he gets comfortable, Ben can be a very likable guy. He is sarcastic, but not annoyingly so. Although Ben is always seeking good friends and companions his pessimistic nature makes it rather hard for the poor fellow.
At this time, Ben is at a very vulnerable/malleable point in his life. He is unsure what he believes in life, making him very impressionable. All his life people have tried to exploit his power, so normally he is very wary in using it for others. Due to his current state on top of the fact that he has always been searching for friends and whatnot, Ben would quite readily yet unwittingly be subjected to abuse of his power, as long as he felt it was for the right cause.
Hobbies/ Interests: Art (painting, drawing, the works)
Job or part time job and description: Artist, with some of his paintings having been bought by various local businesses like coffee shops and restaurants. Not gallery quality material yet, but he’s improving.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Ben feels that he can’t “find the things he really wants” making him feel worthless at times.
Special talents: Ben is a very capable artist, versed in many mediums and styles.
MoralityGood/ bad/ neutral/ other: Other. Ben is at a turning point in his life, and he could go anyway the wind blows, depending on who is around him. He isn’t evil in the slightest, but he doesn’t always go out of his way to be kind to others as well. If he has a choice of being “good” or “evil” however, he’d chose good, wishing he’d never been pressured to make a decision in the first place.
MutationsMutation description: Ben can “find” both people and objects by tracking them through their “astral trail” which he finds via telepathic link. His eyes can see patterns and streams of energy, and hone in onto the specific “auras” of these people and objects. These auras show up as trails or paths, guiding him to whatever he seeks. This ability must be activated and is not passively working. In order to see these paths, Ben must focus heavily on the object or person he seeks in his mind. He quickly enters a trance like state is able to “lock on” to his target by some subconscious ability.
Strengths: Ben’s mutation is very effective and has a very long range. Ben can either find a specific object, like “find this exact cup” or he can find a general object, like “find a cup.” This “general” rule does not apply to people, since he has to know what they look like. However, people are much easier to track then objects, having brighter and stronger astral trails.
Weaknesses: First and foremost, Ben must know whatever he is searching for looks like. The less he knows or the shorter amount of the time he’s been around the object, the harder it is to lock onto the aura as well as see the aura once he’s even locked onto it.
Secondly, distance is a key factor in his abilities. The farther away he is from the object or person, the fainter and harder to follow the trail is. If the target is around 50 miles, the trail begins to weave and bend excessively, not always following the shortest path. If the target is around 100 miles, his absolute maximum range, the trail begins to break up and become non-linear. The closer Ben gets to the target, the more accurate and direct the trail becomes.
Also, telepathic mutations are able to distort or even block Ben’s mutation. People that can read minds can sense that Ben is tracking them, and if they know how Ben’s powers work (via telepathic link) they can potentially distort or turn off their astral trail.
Ben needs focus to use his ability properly. If he is interrupted before he can lock on to his target, Ben has to re-enter his trance and try again.
Finally, Ben’s other senses become less keen when he uses his powers and enters his trance state. Other then the trails he sees, the world around him slightly loses its color, often turning into the shade opposite of the color of the trail (each trail has its own slightly different color). He hears as if he has headphones on sounds muffed and echoing, his sense of smell goes away, even his sense of hot and cold can confuse him (he knows if it’s hot or cold, but not which one). This obviously leaves him more vulnerable.
Fighting StyleExplanation: If Ben is somehow in a fight, he will try and use his powers to find anything useful such as a weapon or a way out of the fight.
Pros for fighting style: He can see things and find others can’t this way
Cons for fighting style: Ben’s senses warp when he uses his powers, leaving him vulnerable. Also, he cannot just “find a way out” of a situation or “find a weapon.” He must focus on a specific location to escape too, or a specific “type” of weapon to find.

History Of Your CharacterBenjamin “Ben” Kent was born and raised in Brooklyn. He was blessed with good looks, talent, and brains but cursed with rotten luck. His father, Murphy Kent, always joked that it was his fault that his son was unlucky, but Benjamin never found that particularly funny.
When he was sixteen years old, Ben was working late after school working on a painting. It was of a local cityscape and Ben planned to enter it into a citywide competition that took place the next morning. Under heavy stress to get it down, Ben couldn’t find anything he needed. Banging his head against the table in frustration, took a deep breath, and closes his eyes; as he slowly let out the air from his lungs, he felt… different. Everything seemed distant, quiet. He was extremely focused. Opening his eyes, the world seemed darker, and he saw what looked like a wisp of glowing smoke or energy flow from in front of him and under the table. Following the trail, Ben found the paintbrush. As soon as he did, everything went back to normal. Or so he thought. It was from that day on that Ben Kent was a mutant, his eyes forever glowing slightly.
Ben’s luck in finding things didn’t pass over to the rest of his life. Only two months after finishing high school, his parents were killed in a car crash, leaving Ben to pay for art school all by himself. That, on top of the obvious fact that his parents died, made life quite stressful for him. Eventually, he resorted to using his powers to make money, finding things for any and all people that needed him. After one job, which turned out to be for a hit man looking for a mark, Ben’s conscious got the better of him and he stopped abusing his power for money, relying only on his art.
After fighting an onset of depression, quoting “I can find anything expect the things that really matter… love, life, and somewhere to belong.” However, Ben quickly realized how much he had to live for. He was Ben Kent, aka: Locate. He could find anything, if he was patient enough. Ben knew that someday, he’d find where he belonged, if only he looked hard enough.

BEEPBEEPBEEPBEE-CHUNK Ben’s hand smashed down on the off button to his alarm clock next to his bed. It was a very evil, despicable machine that barely deserved the mercy Ben granted to it day in and day out, so it was a surprise it didn’t break instead of just stop its alerting of its owner. But stop it did, as the clock read 10:01 A.M.
Ben always gave himself that extra minute, just out of spite.
Today’s plan as the same as always: get up, shower/brush/dress/eat/give-in-to-the-servitude-of-repetitiveness-ect-ect… well maybe not exactly. He felt like a bagel instead of toast. What a rebel he was!
And then of course, he had to work on his current project: a sculpture of a man making a sculpture. He quite loved the irony of it, the act of artistry depicting the act of artistry. Ben hoped to sell it to a local gallery. He was sick and tired of café shops and delis buying his work for cheap. Sure, the discount on the coffee and sandwiches as a great bonus, but it lacked… prestige. Ben quite liked prestige, and ignored the fact that most of the “prestigious” people he knew were self-centered slimy bigots. He was never going to be like that, or so he hoped.
Finally ready to begin a day’s work sculpting, Ben sighed, looking at his almost complete statue.
"You know your life is screwed when you prefer the companionship of your own clay creation, to real live women." Harry grumbled as he soaked his hands in water. He’d elected to make the artist in his sculpture a woman. He hated anything that could potentially be a self-portrait or interpretation. That would make the end result rather horrifying, in Ben’s silvery eyes.
Regardless, what Ben had said wasn’t exactly true. He didn’t prefer… more of didn’t really have a choice. He was an artist living in a crumbling ground floor studio that shook slightly every time the subway that ran beneath it ran through. Money came before women at this point in time.
KNOCKKNOCKKNOCK The door emulated the alarm clock prior. Of course, the timing was impeccable. Ben was at one of the most delicate parts of the entire process, and his hands were covered in clay.
KNOCKKNOCKKNOCK“JUST A MINUTE!” Ben shouted, and carefully rushed to clean off his hands.
KNOCKKNOCKKNOCKKNOCKKNOCKKNOCK “OI! I said just a minute… you impatient prick” Ben muttered the latter just before he opened the door. To his surprise, a young couple stood anxiously outside.
“He-hello.” The man stuttered, looking at a piece of paper in his hands. “Are you Benjamin Kent?” The woman seemed to be ashamed to be there, wringing her left hand with her right constantly. It was rather strange.
“Uuuuuhhhhh” Ben managed to get out before the man continued.
“We heard about you, people say you find things; that you can find anything!” Great. Just what Ben didn’t need or want: another client wanting to use Locate. “Please, you got to help us. My wife…she lost her ring, in Central Park. It’s a family heirloom. We’ll pay you good money too.”
Ben sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. He really hated selling himself out these days. Besides, his sculpture was going to bring him some good, honest, artistic revenue when he was finished. He really didn’t want the job.
“Look, I’m sorry but…” Ben started, but just then, the subway passed underway. The ground shook slightly.
“What was THAT?” The wife said, looking a bit alarmed. Ben replied reassuringly...and quickly.
“It’s just the subway below ground, it’s an old building, don’t…” PINGCRASHTHUNK Ben froze, and closed his eyes letting out a very long, depressing sigh. He knew that sound. Looking over his shoulder, he slowly opened his eyes to see that the light fixture of his living room/studio had popped loose and smashed his sculpture flat. Great. Just great.
“… where did you say you lost this ring again?”
