The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

One thing that Chris had realized was that it wasn't easy to have any privacy on a school filled with mutant kids - no matter where you went, there always seemed to be lots of people around. And he'd also realized that he needed privacy more than he'd thought he did. He'd felt more and more touchy lately and had to get out on long walks to clear his head.
Right now he was walking around in a park quite a bit from the Sister School. It was dark outside - the only light sources was the lamp-posts. There wasn't that many people out, and he when he met someone he tried not to draw any attention to himself. He held his breath every time he passed someone, prepared to make a quick dash into the dark trees if anyone paid him to much attention... but everyone seemed to be too busy with their own troubles too even notice that he was a mutant. A part of him knew that it was stupid to be strolling through a park at hour - it was like begging for getting mugged or beaten down. Or worse. And it was a pretty big part, too - usually Chris was very careful and always listened to his instincts - but lately he'd been having some kind of urges, like he just had to get out and walk.
He guessed it had to do with home sickness. Back home he could spend the whole night outdoors, knowing that it was nothing dangerous out in the woods. On the days he had to be on his guard, but at night he was safe. He kind of missed that. Lately he'd started to wonder if he should go back to Wisconsin, just over the weekend. Or it didn't have to be so long, but he felt that he had to get away soon. He just needed to be alone.
Chris halted. He'd bought a mp3 player for his first salary - the Tropic Aqua Lagoon couldn't afford to pay him much so it was a very cheap model - and if a bystander had listened carefully, he or she might have heard bits and pieces of The Who's Quadrophenia drifting through his big, thick headphones. He looked at the way behind him and decided to turn around - with "Love, Reign O'er Me" blaring in the headphones he started to go back.
Aura prowled the night as usual, though she had kept conflict to a minimum this night, having only assaulted the contents of her room. She would need to gather more material soon, working in bone had both it's advantages and disadvantages, it was a good strong material and their was a lot of it, however extracting it was sometimes the issue and even if you killed three people you might only get a few bones that could be used.
Aura realized she had wondered into a park in one of the less desirable parts of town, not that it really mattered much. Aura felt that most humans she might encounter at this hour were fair game to her blades. Most of them she found were theifs and killers anyway, people who would just end up in jail anyway and why waste the money and mere animals? She asked herself silently continuing to talk to herself.
Aura stopped as she heard a clicking noise behind her. the clicking of a gun, the blast from it, sent her to the ground despite her aura having absorbed the actual impact. Rolling over she looked up at her shooter wondering who else heard the bullet go off. Increaseing her Aura she flew another one deflect off from her Aura. Leaping at the man Aura formed a long sword from her wrist and alshed down aiming for the man's neck, hoping to kill him before he even had the chance to scream.
He'd just decided to turn around and start to move back to the mansion when a sudden bang made it's way through his headphones. His reflexes made him flinch and turn around to see if he was in danger before he'd even realized that it had been a gun shot... and that didn't exactly put his mind at ease. There was no-one near, none that he could see anyway, but the shot couldn't have been very far away. He slowly pulled down his headphones with hands that trembled slightly - he couldn't afford to be off his guard right now. Whoever had shot, it had not been at him - he was fairly sure that he'd have noticed it. So what should he do? The answer manifested itself immediately - go home. There was nothing he could do, probably, and he wasn't exactly the heroic type. Problem was, he had no idea from which direction the shot had come from, and he had no wish to run into someone who was armed and probably didn't want any witnesses. He had barely thought the thought when another shot echoed through the trees. He jumped slightly, but he still didn't know where the shot had come from - it had been so loud that it sounded like it was coming from everywhere at once.
So he turned around and started to walk back the same way he'd came, since it made most sense to him. He walked in a brisk pace and rounded a curve in the way and suddenly halted. There had been bushes in the way which had obscured his line of sight earlier, but now he had free sight over the road. There was someone laying on the road, facedown... or he would have been facedown if his head had not been lying several feet away. Next to him was another person, but whoever it was stood with his or her back against Chris. Chris noticed that he was on the way to scream and immediately fought down the urge, but he couldn't stop a low gurgling sound to escape from his throat. He clasped his both hands over his mouth, hoping that it hadn't been loud enough to hear.
