The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

((are we gonna have a posting order? I'm not quite sure if Fade was supposed to exit yet))
The parents came up with every question to ask her and to every question, Fade had an equally nice pause before answering them. She was good at greeting people when they first arrived at the Mansion, but only if they didn't have their parents with them. Lucky Fade, she got the questioning duo. They asked her to put in a word with other staff to make sure the boy was watched. Lots of parents asked for special attention for their child, though this one was less along the lines of "my boy's so special, make sure he's safe and fits in" and more of a "please don't let my son get arrested". How comforting. "I will pass it along to the other staff to keep an eye out for him," she assured them. Maybe she might bring it up in conversation with other staff but it wasn't exactly on high alert in her mind.
"The students do play sports here, most have their own adapted versions based on their mutations so what you and I know as basketball is played a bit differently here. It's really all up to the students on how the want to play. We don't exactly have a team because, as you can imagine, we can't necessarily go out and play other boarding schools when our students have mutated advantages to playing these games. Though especially in the summer time, a lot of the boys can be found outside playing some hoops or running around the grounds."
She was not sure what to do next with the parents. "Any other further questions?" she asked. It wasn't that she was hurrying them out, it was just that she was running out of stuff to say that sounds appetizing for a parent. She supposed the closest thing to a parent she had would be Ghost and Sam. Sam, the ever leading manly man who had a talent for barking out orders, not like she minded following them, most of the time they were good ideas, and he sure was a looker. Then she remembered a mini battle between herself and Calley at the second KP battle where Ghost snapped at her for not following the team so closely. So maybe she deserved it, but she didn't want to hear it. Mommy Ghost and Daddy Sam. YUCK! I can't think of them like my parents! The thought immediately halted in her mind and she continued to walk to the Mansion.
Once inside, she brought them into the front room and pulled out some paperwork. It was standard, everyone had to fill out some kind of paperwork, even if they didn't know their social security (aka Fade), it was just so they were on file. Though Fade hated having a file that gave away her real name. Sam pointed that out when he randomly started calling her Jenny. "There should be some FAQs in there with descriptions and such. Then there is this paperwork that gives us all the legal documentation we need before Sawyer can live here. It won't take long at all, I promise," I hope is more like it.

>>"Right. Sorry." "Unfortunately my little gift can also be a curse. I can't really see where I'm going when I run as fast as I do."
Shin zipped his lip. When the kid tried again, with a somewhat more sincere form of apology, he got to his feet. "I'm fine," He stated, dusting himself off. Shin looked up to meet the kid's eyes. He offered a small smile. "And just because you can't quite see, that doesn't mean you can't try being careful. A bit of restraint... anyways. You okay?"
Apparently, he was being shown around by someone named Jenny. Was Shin the welcoming committee?
"I'm a Mansion Greeter. Close as it gets," Shin replied with a light laugh. He crossed his arms, and arched an eyebrow. "So, you've seen the mansion, then? What'd you think?"
"Need help with paperwork? Maybe we should get back to Jenny, and help your parents fill it out?"
Well, the Asian said he was fine, and didn't seem as if he would drop dead at any second, so Sawyer didn't protest. Although Sawyer did not let it show, he was somewhat annoyed by the Asian's comment about being careful... using restraint. "Yeah, sorry 'bout that." he shrugged. Right, as if he would use restraint, his power was all he had left at this point. The only thing in his miserable, parent-controlled life that they couldn't do anything about. He wasn't going to keep himself from using his powers.
Ah, Greeter. Same difference. "It's not bad, to tell you the truth... I uh, like the grounds." He hadn't seen the Danger Room yet, which was why he wasn't exactly impressed. Mind you, in his current state of mind, the Danger Room probably wouldn't have seemed all that. It was a good thing he hadn't managed to find it.
When Shin suggested they go back to Jenny and his parents, the teen agreed. Somewhat. Before he could say or do anything however, the redheaded phaser walked in, his parents fallowing suit. His mother appeared pale and uncertain at this point. Perhaps even a little scared. His father appeared like his usual demanding, controlling, conceded self. He felt bad for Jenny. "Speak of the devils, there they are." he said somberly. Of course, he did not mean Jenny, she wasn't a devil. Not yet anyway.
"...some FAQs in there with descriptions and such. Then there is this paperwork that gives us all the legal documentation we need before Sawyer can live here. It won't take long at all, I promise,"
It seemed as if she wanted them to leave as much as he didn't want to be here. Sawyer glanced at Shin before zooming toward his parents and Jenny, a mere few feet away. "Paperwork, my favorite part." he said sarcastically before turning his attention to Jenny, ignoring his parents completely. Much to their annoyance, of course. "Nice place you've got here." Was that a hint of sarcasm? His parents probably hadn't even noticed.
Shin and Sawyer entered the room together and Sawyer rushed over for more sarcastic comments. Though she was happy to no longer be alone with the parents, she really wasn't enjoying the sarcastic attitude and the lack of gratitude for the services the school provided. Oh boy, she had really changed since she came. Shin was visible from the location Sawyer once st-SHIN! Oh yes! She was no longer alone with the family. Shin was the mansion greeter so he could help with whatever she needed help with and she needed help.
What she feared was if the parents asked her for clarification on the paperwork and had her look at it. Fade had never been to school, well, not any further than young elementary school, so it was taking her much longer to learn how to read. Not only was she extremely slow at reading, she also could not really do anything with that low reading education when all the words on these documents were of legal limitations, she had no idea what most of them meant. She was so happy that she had some backup to help her out. "This is Shin, he knows just as much and more than I do about the Mansion and what we have to offer here. He can help answer anything I've left unclear," she said, hoping she didn't sound like she was bailing or that she was stupid. She stayed.

>> "It's not bad, to tell you the truth... I uh, like the grounds."
"They grow on you," Shin said.
He changed the subject to paperwork, but before they could search out 'Jenny', she appeared in front of them... and Jenny was Fade? A small 'ah' escaped him. He glanced to the kid. Devils? Really? The tone of his voice told Shin the boy wasn't exactly ecstatic to see his makers.
The kid rocketed over to Fade. Shin strolled casually to stop in front of her. He nodded to Jenny, then the parents. Jenny introduced him. "Hello," Shin smiled. "If you have any questions, I'm your man." He aimed a quick glance towards the speedster. "Your son here was just telling me he liked the mansion grounds. Would either of you like a tour?"
Jenny seemed relieved to see him and Shin arrive, which wasn't exactly too much of a surprise to Sawyer. His parents could be a little demanding, needy and downright embarrassing when they wanted to be. Not that they weren't those at some point, they always were. Well, at least the embarrassing part of it. There were some times where they weren't exactly needy... More like unpleasant, bossy, misunderstanding....
They were just those annoying, caring parents that always seemed to want the best for their child, even if that wasn't what they truly wanted. Trust me, Sawyer didn't want to be sent here, but he had no choice. Sawyer listened as Jenny introduced Shin to his parents, and then listened some more as Shin spoke to them. A tour huh? The idea seemed to please the Doctor, and as he glanced over at his wife, he saw that she seemed to be thinking over the idea.
"Well, we are glad our son has found something he likes. He's been quite nasty ever since we got to New York, new places are hard on him. He'll adjust though." Great, speaking to Jenny and Shin as if he wasn't around, and speaking lies too. He definitely wasn't having a hard time to adjust at the city... He just didn't want to be here at the school. At all.
"You know, you guys don't have to take the tour, really. I mean, doesn't your flight leave in a few hours?" Sawyer attempted to sound nonchalant and actually succeeded, but really he wanted them to leave already.
"Oh yes, he's right. How about we do all of the paperwork, then maybe a quick tour could be in order?" Dr. Shepherd suggested. "Maybe see the classrooms, the dorm room area. Boys and girls are living in separate buildings, I hope?" Huh, of course. That question. Sawyer smirked a little.
Shin offered to give them a tour. Now that Fade was no longer alone, she didn't mind a tour. She could just walk in the back of the tour and look around, it wasn't like she had much else to do. But she hated actually having to answer so many questions without backup. Sawyer tried convincing the parents that they didn't really have to go on the tour but Fade was no longer on the 'get them out of here' boar, she was more on the 'I don't care much anymore' cruise. The parents did, however, have to catch a flight. It limited their time, but hours before a flight wasn't too bad, though what did she know? She had never really bought a plane ticket, stood in line or gone through security. She would just sneak in, best option for unlimited travelling for an invisible mutant.
Now that she was an X-Man, they got their own flights, so no security lines, walk throughs or tickets. It was a nice alternative to her old life. Shin did, however, take a second look at her for a moment, she wondered why. Did she look different? Her hair may have needed a shower but she didn't look that unappealing. They parents asked about living situations between the boys and girls. Another Shin question. Still, she tried answering the first bit, "Of course, the boys and girls are separated," she stopped herself from saying 'unless they are adults and have a significant other', "boys can't sneak into the girls dormitories and girls can't sneak into the boys dormitories." Maybe when the lights were on, that was possible. She and Raph always had time to themselves during the day, but they had been quite a nice couple, rather good together and innocent.

>> "Well, we are glad our son has found something he likes. He's been quite nasty ever since we got to New York, new places are hard on him. He'll adjust though."
It was interesting how a kid so fast was so slow to adjust. He must not like change, Shin reasoned, because he certainly wasn't shy... or polite. His parents were interested in the tour, but he waved the idea away, as if it was insanity. Shin got him. He was trying at nonchalant, but teens often didn't care much for dealing with their parents in public places. The boy probably wanted this over as soon as possible. Every moment they lingered, his parents somehow got on his nerves... at... least, that's what Shin imagined might be the case.
Kids these days...
At least the parents got the hint. They revised their tour to a 'quick tour'. Shin nodded. "Quick tours are doable. Once we finish the paperwork in my office," He replied.
And separate buildings?
Fade tried answering the question aimed at him, but didn't quite phrase it correctly. Shin took over for her.
"We keep residents separated by age and gender. Everyone stays in the same building, however. Upstairs, there are three halls. One is for the boys, one the girls, and one the older residents who can take care of themselves." Though whether or not every older resident actually did so was beyond Shin's control. "We take care to keep them separate, and have a curfew."
He hoped his answer satisfied the parents.
"Now, would you follow me. I'll take us to my office, and we can handle paperwork." With that, Shin turned, and began to lead. A few minutes later, he invited them into the room. There were chairs set about for the student, and parents of the student. Shin took his own chair, after tugging a final chair out for Fade. He set it behind to desk, on his right. She had as much right to look professional as he did. She'd done the bulk of dealing with parents.
Shin passed the paperwork across the table, and gave them a pen.
Ah, so boys and girls couldn't fraternize with one another, that was somewhat of a bummer to Sawyer, not that he let it show on his impassive features of course. Besides, his parents probably already knew what he was thinking. He never had tried to hide the fact that he liked girls. A little too much. They probably knew a lot more about him than he could imagine, not that he cared really. In a few hours they wouldn't be around, at least not physically. By the way things were going at this point, he had a feeling his parents would still have a rather massive impact on his life here at Mutant High.
Sawyer glanced over at Shin as he corrected Jenny, which was actually somewhat of a good thing. Boys and girls weren't exactly separated the way Jenny had said. Three halls in the same building, one for boys, one for girls and one for the older residents. Sounded simple enough. As Shin continued to talk, Sawyer's mind quickly sped off, trying to find ways to cause trouble with all of the living arrangements. It wouldn't be too hard for him to run past everyone, to make it in the girls' section without being seen. He wouldn't exactly do anything wrong or inappropriate, probably, but he would do it to piss people off. Mainly the staff.
Well, at least that was a plan. He had somewhat ran through the upstairs section and knew vaguely what to expect, but he'd have to slow down a little to really see what was around him. He was good at creating mental maps, but he had to usually walk the distance first so that everything registered in his mind. Then he could run, and chances are he wouldn't harm himself... Unless furniture was pushed around or people moved around about. It sometimes happened that he bumped into walls though, and at such a rapid speed, it usually left a mark.
His mind was brought back to reality when his parents asked about the curfew. "A curfew? What time? Do the students have to be inside their dormitory?" Dr. Shepherd asked, fallowed by Mrs. Shepherd's "Jesse is quite the night owl, he doesn't fall asleep until the early hours of the morning." Right. She had forgotten to mention that he usually wasn't home before the early hours of the morning. Or maybe she'd forgotten it purposefully. He didn't care.
Without a word the Shepherds fallowed Shin and Jenny toward Shin's office. Paperwork, that was always a fun thing to do. Not. He was a little surprised at the office they were invited into however. It wasn't as strict-looking as typical principal's offices, and trust me, Sawyer had seen far too many of those in his sixteen years of life. Okay, so maybe this still has a office feel, but it's better than the principal's office back in my old High School. he thought, sitting down in the chair beside his father. Let's get this party started, shall we? He watched lazily as his parents started filling things out, frowning at some areas.
Probably the areas asking for information they were embarrassed to give out, like his previous school and how he'd gotten expelled from it for beating the crap out of a huge jerk... with his powers.
Shin rushed in to the rescue. Fade was old enough now to fall under the "no room mate, I got my own stuff" ordeal, though she had lived like that for quite a while longer. In fact, she never had a room mate. Since she came in from the streets and really didn't go through much schooling there, she got her own room, so she did not really understand how that all worked. Maybe she should have gone through school, but at the time, she just needed a dry place to sleep and some good food to eat, she was not concerned with anything else. Would she remain as an X-Man forever? Until she was older? Would she have gray hair and still be part of the team because she had no other options. She couldn't leave and go find a different career. If the Mansion fell, Fade would fall as well, unless she turned back to her illegal activities, but she was getting better at getting over that phase of her life.
Shin led them into his office. Seemed like everyone had a bit of an office these days, huh? If only they had some sort of recon office, Fade could feel right at home with that one. A little chair with wheels on the bottom and a spiffy light oak desk. Though she didn't like the paperwork to go with it. She nodded and took a seat next to him, most of her work was done, she was just going to see this all through. Mainly, she was interested in seeing how Sawyer would react once his parents left. Would he go crazy or settle down? Truth be told, after battling all those mutants over at the Order, really, kids were the least of her worries.
The parents seemed interested at the curfew, but Fade decided to let Shin handle that one. When she was young enough to have to follow the curfew, she was a good girl and didn't go out much in the first place, but it was always hard to keep an invisible mutant on a leash, especially if she could phase through it. However, she did enjoy turning invisible and walking around the Mansion at night, it helped her view the world from the perspective of kids who didn't want to be caught doing what they were doing. Most of those kids got sent to bed immediately, but it was amazing that kids thought they could never get in trouble because of their mutation, but they forgot the adults are mutants too.

The parents wanted clarification on what time the curfew was, and Shin told them. It wasn't the worst curfew. It was fair. Teens wouldn't be able to be in the rooms of teens of the opposite sex late into the night, with this curfew in place. "... And it isn't quite a 'lights out' time like summer camp," Shin clarified. "Though if he stays up too late, we'll talk to him." Shin smiled at Sawyer as he said this, giving him a look that said 'don't try anything'. Shin didn't like taking guff from students.
~*~
Back in the office, the parents worked on filling out the paperwork. Shin sat quietly, patiently waiting. Occasionally, they had questions. He answered them. Finally, they were done.
"It looks like that's everything," Shin smiled, looking over the paperwork. "We'll take good care of Sawyer. Now, did you still want the tour?"
