The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

((OOC: Please note that Henrietta and I have decided to change things up a little. This thread is for Fade, and then later on Shin, instead.))
Sawyer was in a very bad mood, which meant that today would be hell. Not only for him, but for everyone else around him as well. The sixteen year-old was often angry at somebody – sometimes for the stupidest reasons – that wasn't uncommon, but it seemed he was taking it to a whole new level on this warm end-of-May morning. He had arrived in New York City last evening and so far all he'd managed to do was meet an interesting dark-haired, green-eyed Mutant with a pretty amazing tail and weapons for limbs, get his parents utterly pissed with him, and he'd been brutally awakened at 6:05am. Twelve hours in New York and that had been all, seriously! Well, that was no stupid reason to be angry.
Now a little before Noon, Sawyer sat grumpily in the back of a very expensive vehicle. He hadn't spoken a word to his parents since they'd decided it would teach him to sneak back into the hotel at two in the morning if they were to wake him after a mere four hours of sleep. He was beginning to feel as if they despised him, ever since they'd decided it was best for him to go to this Freak School filled with Freaks. They treated him as if he was a convict just waiting for the right moment to break out of prison. He hadn't been allowed to do any of his usual fun stuff, and to be honest? It was getting very tiresome.
To top it all off, he was going to be attending a Boarding School for the rest of his schooling life. Three long years of torture. The teachers were most likely strict and mean, the students snobby and total know-it-alls... The only difference from any Prep School? These Freaks had powers. Well, at least that was what he expected. He'd carved it into his head that he would hate it there, which really wasn't a very wise choice of him. His parents had stated that countless times since they'd entered the silver 2011 mustang seven minutes ago.
“This is—” he was cut off however, by his mother. “Jesse Shepherd, don't you dare use that language!” This shut him up for the remainder of the ride... Silence once again. Every so often, Sawyer would glance out of the window and groan. Sure, he had to admit New York looked beautiful – he'd always wanted to travel here – but the reason why he was here took away quite a lot to that beauty. Besides, once he was inside the walls of the school, he'd probably never see the light of day again. They couldn't possibly let the students be with the 'normal' people, after all.
The sixth time he glanced out of the window, his blue eyes darkened a little as they spotted a seemingly normal-looking Mansion. Some people of all ages were enjoying the sunshine... Some looked weirder than Meld had, some others were using their powers. He had to admit, it was pretty cool – and they weren't dressed in preppy boarding school uniforms either. He sighed. It was probably just a means for people to think the school wasn't so bad. “Jesse, come on, we're here. Don't embarrass us, please.” His father said, distrusting his son's thoughts.
Deciding to have a little bit of fun before his life was to end – because, let's face it, being in a Boarding School meant you had none – Sawyer slowly got out of the car and then started, at a very unnatural pace for a sixteen year-old, to run around the area. He was half-showing off, since some students had turned to look at him, and half-making his parents angrier than they already were.
Cabs in this city were getting more and more expensive. Sure, maybe she got some money from the Mansion, being a resident and some sort of a super hero and all, but it still made her groan when she could spend a fun night out on the town and spend just as much money getting back to the Mansion. She had been going out maybe three times a week, just a nice breather so she could gather her thoughts. She was a good girl, a very good girl, but she had a bad past. You can't always run from your past, so she would take a few nights off and go have some fun. She hasn't pushed the limits yet, hasn't stolen anything or ripped someone out of $200. She was getting more and more used to being this good girl.
Most of the time, she could make it back to the Mansion, but this time, she had spent a particularly fun night with some friends she met at a bar. Nothing single with a man, no, not this time, she hadn't actually done anything like that since Venus had swept her off her feet, but that was a secret. She got to take a shower, but she wore the same clothes. Fortunately, she wasn't one of those night people who went out in short little sparkly purple dresses. She enjoyed the torn jeans with a nice t-shirt, yes those were possible. It always made it better if she was stuck with these clothes when she came back, she could walk up in her tennis shoes, shirt and jeans.
The cab pulled up behind a nice, expensive car. There was a young boy and his parents standing outside of the car. He must be new to the school. Well, at least Fade's hangover had gone away a little after the soup and coffee she had at Panera Bread. She passed her money up to the cab driver. $58! Stupid city... She got out of the car and shut the door before the cab driver turned around and drove back.
"Hi, may I help you with something?" she asked, adressing the young boy more than the parents. At the school, their job was to care for the students and keep the parents happy with what they were doing at the school. It was time they got used to being the center of attention. Parents paid and the students learned. Plus, Fade had never been good at how to address parents, she didn't have any of her own, not any that she remembered. And the foster parents she did remember did not exactly live up to her expectation.
At this point, she had stepped in front of them, between them an the gate. It wasn't to scare them at all, but she wanted to get their names before she opened the gate. Speaking of which! Where were her manners? A quick mental note told her not to introduce herself as Fade to the parents. Most parents usually thought that someone who was old enough to help run a school shouldn't have little nicknames that related to their power. Though she absolutely hated her name, she introduced herself as that anyways. "Excuse me, where are my manners? I'm Jenny McCullen. I've been a resident here for about 4 years. I can answer most of your questions." Please don't ask me about finances though. Fade came as a homeless mutant, she didn't have any money to pay for school but they housed her and taught her how to read some, once she finally admitted she couldn't read, that is.
Sawyer kept running. Although he couldn't hear it, he was sure his parents were urging him to stop. Urging him to behave, urging him to be a man of his age. He knew very well he was being an embarrassment to them at this point, but to be honest he was having fun. After running half the distance of the right side of the gate and returning to where his parents had parked the car, Sawyer finally stopped, smirked at his parents, and turned to face the gate entrance again. "Now son, listen to me." Mr. Shepherd said sternly, looking rather terrifying. At least, he would to anyone else but his youngest son. "We're trying to help you! Don't act like a child, Jesse! We raised you better than that!" he added. Jesse scowled. Enough with the yelling! he thought, glancing around.
"Help me. Alright, think what you want, but this place won't help me." the teen muttered under his breath. He never did know whether or not his parents had heard him however, because a few short seconds later, a red-headed girl with blue eyes spoke to him. He smirked slightly. The red-headed girl added a quick, polite introduction. Sawyer nodded, slightly impatient. He wanted to get this thing over with. Either he would be going back home, or he would be stuck staying here. He didn't want to wait any longer to see what his fate held. So he decided to answer the woman's first question. "No, not.." His father cut him off. "Hello Miss McCullen! If you could help us, it would be appreciated. We decided it would be best for him if he was to study here. You see... he's a...Mutant."
Right, see how he'd said the word 'Mutant'? He may seem supportive, but Sawyer could see right through his facade. "A pretty awesome one at that." the teenager smirked once more. "I'm a Speedster." and to prove it he sped off, crossing to the other side of the street and then running back again, all of which in the time frame of a few seconds. "We think," his mother said once Sawyer was back, "That he requires proper education, as well as a safe place to learn about his... Mutation. We did a lot of research, and Xavier's School seems like a perfect fit." she added. Sawyer no longer felt like arguing. It was a lost cause anyway.
((my bad, I misread the last sentence of your last post))
The boy seemed impatient, very impatient. Then again, after watching him run around the school like it had a four feet circumference, she could see why things seemed a little slow. It wasn't as bad as one mutant she had met. He was so bad that he wrote notes to her because he moved to fast to talk at a normal speed. Well, this young one was a bit easier to talk to, although he had those teenage hormones that bored him when talking about business. Fade could relate to that. His parents seemed to be the ones who held the reigns for the boy. It always made Fade laugh when a child was flat out showing their powers and the parents explained with the word "Mutant". Silly parents.
"Oh yes, I can see he is gifted," she added, replacing the word mutant with a more positive effect. It was a little lame, but it boosted the children's confidence since they were called gifted instead of mutants. Plus, saying the Xavier's was a School for Mutant Youngsters would not exactly get them great publicity. It was a polical word as well. "He seems like he'll fit in perfectly here." she added.
He made a comment about how great he was as a mutant. Yes, those young hormones made kids feel invincible. When Fade had first come to the school, she felt as though she could never be hurt, and it only boosted her ego when she acquired her power of phasing. Yet all mutations could use some work. Her power nearly killed her once and its never been viewed as much of a suicidal power. "That's very fast, um, can I get your name?" she asked. She couldn't address him as Speedy Gonzales, some people were against cute nicknames. And some people... *cough* Fade *cough*... hated their real names.
"Of course, your son will get some of the best training in the country. He will have a dorm room, probably a room mate since he's still young and he will have his classes set out for him. We have classes for all the common world education, like math, literature, science, and history and then he will have help developing his power and working out all of the kinks. We have a pool, kitchen, game rooms, recreational room, a shower in his dorm room, and plenty of other great things about the school. As you can see, our grounds are quite large, so if you feel like running, you have a lot of space to do so," she said, turning to the Speedster at the end of her presentation.
"Shall we go in?" She asked, turning to the gate. Unfortunately, she always forgot the codes to get into the gate. Instead, she simply phased through the gates and placed her fingerprint on the inside of the gate so the alarm stopped sounding. It usually didn't take too long so it wouldn't alert the Mansion, but if she didn't do it fast enough, the security room would be made aware of her phasing through the metal.
"Oh yes, I can see he is gifted," were the redheaded woman's words, which actually made Sawyer smirk slightly. He could tell that Miss McCullen would take Sawyer's side if it came down to it. Well, that was the feeling she gave him. He could always be wrong, he had been mislead more than once before in his young life. Having met and gotten involved with some pretty shady people in Seattle, and after hanging out on the streets for a few years, he had learned a lot. Assumptions weren't always good, and in this case he wouldn't bet his life on McCullen's loyalties. Sure, she was probably all for the good of students, but she could always be the type that would help keep him safe from the big bad world that was reality.
Maybe his hopes that she was different were crushed slightly when she added that he would fit perfectly here. He didn't let it show. His face remained composed, apart from perhaps slight impatience in his blue eyes. Speaking of blue eyes – was it just Sawyer, or had Jenny's eyes suddenly changed colors. Weren't they blue a mere minute ago? They were now an attractive shade of dark green. No wait, he couldn't possibly have imagined it earlier. They had been blue. Oh well, he didn't make much of it. He'd known some people that could do the same thing. Sure, it wasn't as quick or spontaneous as this woman, and it certainly did not change this drastically, but... this was a Mutant school.
It was probably part of her power or something. He didn't care, really. His name? Before his parents could reply with 'Jesse', a name he had long since abandoned, he spoke up. "Sawyer, Sawyer Shepherd." he said. "I can also go by Speed, Speedy or Speedman, or whatever else you can come up with. Take your pick." he said, mostly to annoy his parents. For some reason, ever since finding out about their son's Mutation, they'd been strange about nicknames that had to do with his ability. Whenever he called himself nicknames in front of them such as Speedman (His favorite by far) they were always so keen on calling him 'Jesse'. He hated the name. Jesse was too... childish.
And then there was the whole speech about training, something about the Country, a dorm room... classes, ergh. Right, this looked more and more like a fancy Boarding School, apart from the fact that they had some weird, psycho Mutant classes. Maybe those could be entertaining. He knew a lot about fighting from past experiences, so it wouldn't be too difficult. "Sounds...cool." he said after his father had shoved him lightly in the side. "Going inside would be nice." his mother added. Sawyer watched with a slightly peaked interest as Jenny phased through the metal and then opened the gate for him and his parents. He wasn't the only one showing-off, yet his parents weren't scowling at Jenny! This was unfair.
Everyone seemed to jump at the opportunity to answer what his name was. The boy crossed the name finish line first and stated that his name was Sawyer. Just like Tom Sawyer. Of course, Fade hadn't read the book but she saw the movie with that amazingly cute young actor, Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Whatever happened to him? He had given himself a nickname, which started a debate in Fade's mind on whether or not she should give away her nickname. However, the professional appearance of the parents told her that would seem a little immature for a mutant her age who was trying to tell them their son would learn properly at the school, to say she had a childish nickname. She could see why Sam liked real names more often. However, her real name was only connected to her business wise, or if she were ever caught by the cops back in the day. Not exactly the name she preferred to be called.
The use of her power made her feel a little nervous. She hated admitting people to the Mansion with a clear indication that it was full of mutants. However, sometimes, that was the best way to do things. His parents did not seem to mind, so she swung the gate open and waited for them to come in. "Well, nice to meet you, Sawyer, or Speedman," she smiled politely. A small inkling to laugh tugged at the corner of her mouth when she thanked her lucky stars he didn't call himself "Speedo". That would be funny!
He seemed just like any other teenager, a little overconfident. Who did not hit that stage in life? Where they were invincible and way too 'cool for school'. Eventually, he'd snap out of it. And if he didn't there was always the prospect of being an X-Man that peaked the curiousity of gifted young mutants. It most certainly got Fade to behave most of the time. If she acted up, she wouldn't have been admitted onto the team.
Sawyer, as the seconds ticked by and he got to know her a tiny bit more, noticed more and more that Jenny was leaning on his side rather than his parents'. For a fraction of a second he even thought the older Mutant wanted to say something, but had decided to keep her mouth shut. This gave him just a tiniest bit of hope. Not that it would change his views on Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Nope, not a chance.
"Nice to meet you as well." he told Jenny, this time not needing his parents' light shove to speak. He could speak on his own, thank you. Although, what he had said wasn't completely truthful. Sure, it was always interesting to meet a fellow Mutant, but he would rather not be at the Mansion on this day. So, it wasn't exactly nice. As he entered the Mansion grounds with his parents however, his features remained cool and statue-like. Jenny would most likely never know of his frustration or anger when it came to having to enroll here the next Fall as well as live here all Summer long.
As they started to walk, his parents decided to take control of the situation again. "So, this school offers special classes? Self-Defense and such? It is completely secure, am I right? And what about other events? I've seen some pretty awful things on television. Will my boy get involved in any of it?" Dr. Shepherd asked sternly, trying to seem intimidating, which honestly, was probably working. Unless Jenny wasn't scared easily, which was possible. She seemed like a tough girl.
"I can take care of myself, thanks." Sawyer snapped at his father, disliking the way the Doctor spoke: as if his son wasn't walking beside him. "Jesse! Don't speak to your father that way." Mrs. Shepherd added. Man, this was so embarrassing. Keeping his cool, statue-like expression, Sawyer smirked a little at Jenny; as if apologizing for his parents. Not that they were bothering her with all of this behaving crap.
Sawyer walked with her up to the school, it was hard to get a read on him. There were times that Fade wished she were a telepath, but then again, going out on dates would be horrible if she knew the man wanted in her life by the end of the night at just one sight of her. No, being a telepath would not be fun, actually. Maybe Sawyer would warm up as soon as his parents left. Perhaps he was only visiting, and he was going to leave with them at the end of the tour, that tended the happen sometimes if the parents were afraid the Institution was set up to brainwash all mutants into some kind of steroid mutants that butcher humans for freedom. Which was exactly why she hated doing the introductions and such.
The next question made her pause. On one side, she could say yes, that they did teach amazing self-defense classes so that they would not be harmed by any radicals and so they could grasp their power better, but some parents took that as a request to buff their child up; or there was the chance she said no, that he was fine, but the parents would question their child's safety. Double edged sword. "Sawyer will be able to chose what classes he wishes to take. We do have a class that teaches self-defense based on powers and non-mutated abilities. As for the other events. This school is unaffiliated with those mutant riots and such. If Sawyer gets caught in those, it would have been a choice of his own, not done by the school. This is a school for learning and developing, we do not encourage that sort of behavior," she said, stringing the words together as they flowed through her mind.
No, the school did not put mutants in those situations. The X-Men is a group of mutants who make that choice who live at the school and use it's funding, it's not run by the school really, it's more like a separate department. The small breakout of an argument left Fade in an awkward position. What should she do? "Sawyer, will you be moving in immediately with us?" she asked, hoping it was a yes so she could tell him to go upstairs and pick out a room while she finished answering any questions from the parents. She hated playing on both fields.
Sawyer was actually a tiny bit hopeful when she paused before answering. Maybe, if she were to confess that some things were just inevitable and that trouble sometimes happened (It required somebody stupid to think everything was always perfect here), his parents would freak out and finally decide that this school wasn't right for him. Hoped. Right, well he'd hoped a lot in the past twenty-four hours and it always seemed to be crushed, didn't it? Oh well.
As he listened to Jenny talk to his parents, he couldn't help but feel invisible once more. Whatever. As she spoke, he glanced around. The Grounds were definitely a sight to see. Not too far away he could see a hedge maze, and as he looked in another direction, a pool. There was even a basketball court. A group of boys, probably around Sawyer's age, was playing a rather rough pick-up game. Sawyer liked basketball, and to be honest he was quite good at it too. Not that that was too surprising, he was after all The Speedster. Quite possibly one, if not the, fastest person on earth.
His ears perked up at what Jenny was saying when she mentioned riots and then something about not encouraging such .behavior. He smirked. "Yeah, you know me. I always tend to find myself in some kind of trouble." he said, assuming his parents had mentioned their son's troublesome streak lately. His parents frowned at him. Okay. Maybe that wasn't what they were talking about, he thought.
Then, directing her question at Sawyer this time, Jenny asked whether or not he would be moving in immediately. He glanced at his parents quickly. "Yeah, they think it would be best if I got used to the place during the Summer before classes begin again next fall." Note the emphasis on the word they. He wanted to make it clear that he did not agree, without flat out saying it in front of his parents. Plus, he didn't want to offend or hurt Jenny's feelings, she wasn't the one he was angry with right now.
Oh yes, this one was quite the character. She wasnt entirely sure that he had listened to the conversation long enough to realize that Fade and his parents were talking about major riots. Still, his response was a little off from what she hoped. Usually, teenagers who thought they were invincible and the strongest mutant were usually stuck in situations with riots and such and it was up to the X-Men to save them when that happened. She used to be like that. However, when Fade came to the Mansion, it was huge, she had her own bed, she had food and a shower all for free. It was quite the stepup from the ceiling in the mall. The Mansion was amazing compared to being homeless. Then again, some people did not have that kind of appreciation for this place.
"It's actually really fun during the summer. We all go swimming, it's a great chance to meet everyone who lives here throughout the whole year," she said, trying to think of fun things to say that the parents would enjoy. Right now, she was selling it to the parents, not the kid, so most of the stuff she said were angled towards pleasing parents. She couldn't very well say "you can go out to the town when you feel like it" or "you don't have a bedtime", the only curfew he had would be the legal curfew. Nobody was forced to stay at the school, just many people found it more relaxing then going out for a fun night on the town. People could leave the Mansion, that was obvious by how Fade wore yesterday's clothes. Though she hoped no one thought so.
"Would you like to speed through the Mansion and look at it real quick while I give your parents the paperwork?" she asked. Man, she would hate herself if she was in his shoes. Honestly, she just wanted the parents to go. At the gate, she kinda hoped it would just be a "here's my kid, have fun" sort of goodbye, but it was getting harder and harder to come up with things that wouldn't spook a parent. Fade had never actually attended the school, really, she lived there and she did Danger Room simulations, but she didn't go to math class or anything, so she never really knew what it was like to be a student.
Sawyer knew very well he'd said something wrong. Both his parents and Jenny were giving him looks, although they weren't necessarily holding the same meaning. His parents were definitely upset with him, trying to mentally tell him to shut up and behave himself. Of course, that was impossible to do, they weren't Mutants. Not that they were complaining about that. Jenny however just seemed... as if she was trying to understand him. She didn't seem to dislike him though, which really was a shame. He would like to have her reject his application into the school. It would probably be best to try and think positive, it would be best for him in the long run.
Honestly, he was almost certain there wouldn't be any way out. “Sounds fun.” he said without any real emotion in his voice, not even in his features. The idea of going swimming and meeting other Mutants wasn't as appealing as spending a summer with his gang back in Seattle, getting in trouble, running away from the law, making himself some solid cash from passerby's wallets. Nothing could top that, especially not being here. His parents probably knew that. They were really getting into a deep hole with their son. They shouldn't be surprised if he never wanted to see them again at the end of this.
When Jenny asked him whether or not he wanted to check out the mansion (speed through it, as she'd put it) he couldn't help but smirk. Finally a way for him to get away from his parents for a bit. ”Be back in a flash, then. he said with a smirk. Before he could run off however, his mother put a firm hand on his shoulder. ”Don't get yourself in trouble, Jesse. And come back here in ten minutes.” Right. He nodded and then left, speeding around the place at top speed. Occasionally he happened to bump into a few people – both on purpose, and by accident. It was a little hard for him to see where he was going while running so quickly.
Back on the Mansion grounds however, the Shepherds weren't planning on speeding off just yet. “Our son... got himself in a bit of trouble back in Seattle.” Dr. Shepherd said in a slightly hushed voice, brushing a hand through his short ,curly graying blond hair; hair that was quickly thinning out, leaving him close to bald these days. “He can be quite a rebel... Stealing, running away from home for a few days on end... He can cause you quite the trouble.” he added. Mrs Shepherd looked tense, embarrassed even. “Would it be any trouble for the staff to keep a close eye on him?” she said dryly.
Sawyer sped off without much hesitation. He did not seem like he was going to have fun at the Mansion. Then again, he didn't seem like he ever wanted to give it a shot. She didn't blame him. It took Fade quite a few attempts from the cop that could actually catch her to get her to check out the school. She knew the cop was just trying to help her, and come to think of it, it was probably one friend she knew she could count on in the streets. Everyone else was all about protecting themselves. Then again, if anyone came to her on the streets back then, she would have saved her own hide and left them alone. It was human nature. The Mansion taught her better morales.
When he left, the father turned to her and began the deep discussion. Oh great. I forgot parents feel their kids need special attention, she mentally groaned, hoping with all her might that they weren't telepaths. He mentioned that Sawyer got into some trouble in Seattle. Most kids his age did get into trouble, it was some sort of a natural growth stage. Still, she didn't know what severity of the trouble was, so she did not assume he was just guilty of hooking up with a chick or going joy riding in daddy's car.
"We have a full booted security here and it's run by very capable hands who are alerted if anyone sneaks off property or onto the property. Also, if there are any problems with theft, we do have residential telepaths, it's hard to lie when mutants that live her can hear your thoughts. Also, if it's any comfort, I can also turn invisible and enjoy roaming around when no one else can see me. I'll make sure if I see him doing something wrong, I'll stop him," she said, providing words of comfort. Keeping tabs on a mutant would be hard, especially a mutant who is much faster than Fade. It reminded her of the time she tried to spy on Kaz at the Order, he was too quick for her to keep up with. She was sure he would learn about the Danger Room soon, he would be quite interested in that. Still, she hadn't trained in a while, not since Silver Streak trained with her. She needed a refresher.
(OOC: I think it's about time Shin was to arrive, don't you?))
Sawyer's parents listened closely, seeming to relax just slightly at Jenny's words, well, Dr. Shepherd did, at least. His mother on the other hand, was slightly pale.
"Yes, it would definitely be wise to watch him, carefully. He will, without a doubt, attempt to run away." she sighed, glancing around nervously, leaning into her husband slightly. She felt quite uneasy, being around all of those Mutants who could do things she couldn't even begin to imagine. Not to mention Miss McCullen had mentioned Telepaths. She felt naked, as if everything about her was out for the world to see.
"Would you mind advising the rest of the staff, telling them to keep a constant eye on my son?" Dr. Shepherd went on in his ordering, slightly intimidating voice.
"How about sports? Our son... loves sports. We know he hates us right now. He has every right to, we haven't exactly let him have a word in the matter of his schooling, but he's crazy about track... And basketball. Will he be capable of playing on a team?" his mother asked, a question that had been bothering her for a while now.
Back in the Mansion, Sawyer was running around, way too fast. It only took a minute for him to run to length of the Mansion, from the Kitchens to the Living room, from the bedrooms to the classrooms. When he was about to head outside however, he bumped into somebody, sending them flying to the ground. Well, that's what he assumed had happened, usually with such force, the person would fall down.
"Oof... Uh." he groaned, steadying himself, blinking, and then looking for the victim of his speedy, blind roaming.

A mansion greeter's duties are these: Greet those who come to the mansion, help new students enroll in classes, give tours, keep the peace, and look good doing it. For all these jobs, Shin thought he was covered today. He'd met with a few new students already, and shown them around. Things had gone swimmingly with the sea serpent shifter and his harpy sister. He'd decided he had earned a sandwich. Shin closed off his office, and took a small break. On his way to the kitchen, he'd expected he'd be alone. He hadn't figured he'd run into any more students, so early in his break time. Fifteen minutes would not have been enough time for them to track him down. It certainly would not be enough time for them to run him down... right?
He was wrong, thoroughly.
A boy crashed into him. Shin found himself suddenly seated. An 'oof' escaped him, to match the crash's cause. Since he was suddenly seated, Shin crossed his legs and sat pretzel style. He crossed his arms over his chest, and glared at the new face.
"You, I haven't seen, but you move like the red (sometimes yellow) blur... maybe we should get you a significant color of clothing... er..." He paused, then realized where he was sitting. "Sorry. We got off on the wrong foot. My name's Shin. You're new. Have you been greeted yet? What's your name?"
Triangular pupils focused on the new face. This kid certainly seemed fast.
There was an Asian man sitting on the floor, looking up at him with strange triangular pupils. For a fraction of a second Sawyer wasn't sure what to expect from him. Yelling, glaring? Hopefully it would be something that would cause enough havoc so that he'd be expelled. Yeah, right. As if he'd be that lucky. And as expected, he wasn't.
The Asian didn't seem all too angry at him, although he did compare him to the red blue, or yellow. "Right. Sorry." he said, his words holding little meaning. "Unfortunately my little gift can also be a curse. I can't really see where I'm going when I run as fast as I do." he said with a sly smirk.
Yes, they had definitely gotten off on a bad note; the Asian having been bumped into rather harshly like that. "Heh, sorry about that. I didn't hurt 'ya at all, did I?" Well, it was definitely unlike him to care, especially in this particular situation. Wasn't he supposed to be angry at being here? That involved not-caring, didn't it?
Oh well, whatever.
"Well, Jenny McCullen is out front near the gates with my folks. Are you the welcoming committee or something?" he chuckled. "The name's Sawyer. Sawyer Shepherd... I was just about to meet Jenny again, she told me I could check this place out real quick while she sorted all of the 'official' crap with my parents." Sawyer explained, as if he needed to do so.
