Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. He smiled as he watched at her. "Oh i have heard about that place the mansion of a girl who i visited in one of her dreams. She was having a nightmare and i got rid of it for her. She more or less introduced the Mansion to me so since you mentioned you live there i wondered if it was the same. But i don't think that there is more then one mutant school even in New York. Her name was Twyla... Maybe you know her then."
Looking down at her ankle and up at the cold park he suddenly smiled. "Hey if the pain lessens how about we go somewhere more warm where we can have something hot to drink and a bite to eat maybe ? I hadn't had breakfast yet this morning and i guess its better to wait in a warm place then in this chilly park ... Even tough we still have a nice view here. What do you say hmm ? It will be my treat then." He chuckles a bit
The boy said her name was Twyla, the girl whose dream he was in. Her eyes got big. “Twyla?” She only knew one person with that name. Henri’s best friend was Twyla Ashby. “Twyla’s my very best friend. We met the first day I moved here. She showed me around the Mansion.” The girl paused and looked at Brian. “Why were you in her dream?” She couldn’t help but think that it was kind of weird to just go into random people’s dreams, especially since it was her friend’s dream.
Brian asked her if she wanted to go somewhere warmer. She stood and put weight on her hurt ankle. At first, she flinched and then smiled. “Warmer would be nice. I just want some coffee and a muffin or something. I’m not very hungry, but I could keep you company. I do enjoy making new friends.” Henri didn’t know him very well, so she’d just have to stay aware and then she should be fine, right? Right.
He chuckled at her surprised reaction why he was in her dream. He knew that he must look like some kind of dream stalker to her now. "Why i was there ... Well actually i can't really help it. When i meet people during the day i somehow pick up their brainwaves so i figured out. When i go to sleep instead of dreaming i automatically can feel all the dreams of people around me ... About what they go and if they are just dreams or nightmares. When people have a especially bad nightmare i often try to discreetly alter it into something more nice ... But she seemed like a nice girl so I decided to have a dream chat whit her... Quite pleasurable must i say and she told me about the Mansion and even got me doubting if i should pay it a visit or not."
He smiles walking over at her so he could help her out if she got any problem whit standing or so. "I hope you don't think badly of me because of it... I can't control it i automatically visit dreams ... So i can better help people whit nightmares out , right ?" He smiles. " Well and i hope we can be friends then... Its good to get to know some new people especially for me , it is pretty lonely here now that i still don't know many people here. Oh and i hope you know a place then where we can have some coffee because my knowledge of the area is also still a little bit small."
Brian explained why he was in her best friend’s dream. She still wasn’t quite sure what she thought about that, but if he couldn’t help it, there wasn’t anything to be upset about. He said he tried to help get rid of her nightmare and other people’s too. That’s nice, I guess. Nightmares do suck pretty bad most of the time. He picks up people’s brainwaves? That’s interesting and something the girl had never heard of before. He also mentioned something about visiting the Mansion. “The Mansion’s a very nice place. It was nice to have somewhere to go.”
He began to talk about how lonely not knowing anyone is. Henrietta felt bad for the guy. She knew how that was and hated to see someone else feel that way and now he was worried that she was mad at him or something. “I don’t think badly of you. I’d just never heard of anything quite like that before.” He hoped they could be friends? “I don’t know why we couldn’t be friends.” She gave the boy a friendly smile. “Yeah, I know somewhere we could go. Just follow me.” Henri began to walk.
Smiling appreciating he was glad she wasn't scared of by the taught that he could enter people's dreams. "Yeah from what i heard about the mansion it indeed is a nice place to go. Maybe you can tell me how i get there because i kinda forget to ask that to her ... Then again when you are fixing nightmares its pretty hard for me to concentrate on details. I only have a temporary place to stay for now so if it really is as good as you people say i might pass bye there too."
Smiling he followed her closely. "Ok lead the way if your alright. Do i need to help you or will you be able to get there without help." He looked a bit worried at her ankle even tough she said it was getting better.
The boy seemed glad to learn that Henrietta wasn’t freaked out by him or his power. She gave him a friendly smile and continued to walk. He said something about finding the Mansion, and Henri looked at him. “I could show you where it is and maybe introduce you to a greeter at some point. Greeters,” the girl began to explain, “are people who show you around the Mansion and help get you set up at the school.”
Henrietta got an image of Calley showing her around in a prince costume. It made her smirk slightly, but it pulled her out of her thoughts when Brian asked about helping her walk. She glanced at him. “Oh, no. I think I can walk pretty well by myself. Thank you though. I really appreciate the offer. It’s very nice of you.” The brunette pointed at a coffee shop. “How about there? I went there with another mutant friend of mine once.” It was the same place she and Chris had gone after almost getting mugged.
He smiles friendly as she offered him to show that place. "Well it would be very nice to see that mansion in real now certainly. I actually got a little curious about how that would be like. Even whit the general impression your friend gave me in her dream I'm sure that there is a lot more to see. But i guess we better wait to go there until the pain in your ankle is better."
He looks up seeing the coffee shop that she pointed at and nods. "Looks good to me, after you." He politely lets her lead the way out of the park to there while adjusting his own walking speed to hers.
Brian seemed pretty excited to see the Mansion. That was good, maybe he'd end up making a positive change or doing something great. His power was really cool and she thought that he may be able to do some really cool things with it. Maybe he'd be an X-Men just like so many of the other people at the Mansion. They were really cool. It really felt like a home to her and she had made quite a few friends. It was a nice place.
He let Henrietta walk in front of her. She glanced back at him to see what he was doing. Brian seemed nice and Henri wanted to be his friend, but she needed to be more careful. They walked into the small cafe and glanced at the girl behind the counter. It was the same girl from the first time she had been there and she waved to the brunette. Smiling, the brunette waved back to her. She turned to Brian to explain. "First time I was here, she found out I was a mutant. She seemed genuinely interested, but in a good way."
She placed in an order for coffee and sat down at a table near the counter. She sipped at it as she waited for the boy to order what he wanted. He had said he was hungry and they had had good food the last time she was there.
He went along whit her inside and ordered a coffee for himself and a couple of Donuts. He actually was pretty fond of the American ones since they tasted much better then the ones he was able to get at home but actually he always had liked them. After placing his order he followed her down to the table and sat down too.
Smiling he looked up at her. "That's good, she seemed a nice person too me too. Actually i have heard a bit about people that hate mutants and luckily i haven't runned into any of them by my knowing. Of Course its pretty hard to discover i am a mutant because my powers ain't really obvious and i actually can make it seem like people just have a crazy dream. How is that in America tough... Are there a lot of those people here since you mentioned before that i should be careful." He said this on a more quite and careful tone after she had warned him before. While leaning back in his chair he waited for their orders and her reply.
The boy asked her about the American view of mutants. Henrietta looked at him and lowered her voice as well. "Just like most places, some people are really against mutants and others don't care. My friend and I got mugged before coming here once. He was a very obvious looking mutant and that's why they targeted us. His name was Chris and he reminded me of a fishy." The girl raised an eyebrow at herself. "Did I really just use the word 'fishy' in a mature conversation?" Henri laughed and her eyes crinkled a little.
The waitress brought Brian's order over and she looked at Henrietta with big eyes and then back at Brian. "Um, enjoy your meal." She retreated back behind the counter in time to take another person's order. Henri smiled and turned back to the young man. "Anyway, there were a lot of anti-mutant rallies going on and before I found out I was a mutant, they had the Mutant Registration Act. I guess it was horrible." An image of the little fox-girl, Ruby, popped intot her head and she glanced down. She shrugged. "It's probably like this in quite a few parts of the world. It's sad, isn't it?"
He sighs a little as he hears her tell about her friend who got mugged because he apparently had a visible mutation. "Well i guess i came out of a country where they didn't cared about it because they where too busy arguing about other political affairs. But then again the concentration mutants here is probably way bigger then in a country like Belgium so its probably normal that there are also more people against us. And targeting people like us just for what we are is just ..." He sighs shaking his head not finishing his sentence. He had never experienced it first hand but it even hearing about such cases mind him kind of sad. He cheered a bit up after her amusing "Fishy" remark and got her point a bit why he was targeted.
He chuckled amused as the waitress brought him his order and he zipped his jacket open in the warmer room now. Thanking the waitress whit a polite smile and a nod he immediately took a bite out of his donut and sipped from his new coffee again. His mood dropped a bit again as she talked about that mutant registration act. Even way back in Europe it was a hot topic in the news. "Yeah your right ... It is terrible. Sometimes if i hear of such things i actually want to do something ... I don't know what but something that would make a difference somehow in such a situations." Sighing again he shakes his head before turning back to his breakfast. "But that's probably just a silly dream of this dream walker."
Brian explained what happened in his country. It didn't sound very bad and that was good. The brunette was glad to learn that not every country was being horrible to mutants or vice versa. Violence on either side's part wasn't really going to improve anything at this point. It would just add more fuel to all the hatred and fighting. To Henrietta, even if it seemed pointless to try, but she was determined to find somewhere that she could help and make a difference. The boy seemed to have the same dream, but he thought that it was silly.
Henri looked at the Brian and took a sip of her own coffee. "I don't think it's silly. I have the same kind of thoughts and dreams. I think it's good that we think that way. There'd be something wrong with us if we didn't care about others, you know?" She put her cup back down and gave him a small smile. I didn't mean to make him depressed. Maybe I should just talk about something else now, like...fishies. Fishies seemed to lighten the mood a little. After a moment of deliberating, she decided that it was kind of a stupid way to change the subject. I'll just wait to see what he says this time.
Eventually he looked up smiling hearing that the girl taught about it the same way as he did. "Yeah your right ... And ill just continue by changing one dream at a time ... That's what i do best after all." He smirked as he drank some more coffee before finishing his donuts. He smiles as obviously his down mood was instantly over. As he brushed some crumbs of it away before drinking some more.
"And besides before i start dreaming myself about changing the world i better first put my life in order. Its still a bit hectic after moving over here so i need to sort some things out first." He quietly stares in the distance as he goes over the list of things he needs to get in order. First he needs to find a permanent place to stay and then he actually has to figure out what he wants to do here in New York since eventually he should have to or pick up a job or go study again.
Brain looked a lot happier and it made Henrietta feel better. She hadn't brought down the mood again, which was good to know. It seemed like maybe she had even helped him become confident in his goal. The girl smiled proudly to herself as she took a drink of her black coffee and looked around the cafe. It was nice not to have a very visible mutation. The only thing she had to worry about was what her hair was doing in front of others. That could end up badly otherwise.
Henri listened as he talked about sorting his life out. He said he needed somewhere to stay and she looked down at the tabletop. "Well, I guess I could take you to the Mansion, but you'd have to find a greeter from there. I don't know if I'm allowed to just let you walk in or not. Does that make sense?" She really hoped it did because she wasnt' sure how else to word it. She thought she had explained it well enough, but he might not have known what she meant by 'greeter'. Just in case, she added, "Greeters are people who show you around and help you if you want to live there."
He smiles as he nods while she explains what she knew about the mansion. "Yeah your friend told me something similar like that in her dream. But i still have some things to do before i can finally set in here so maybe its better that you give me directions to it and i can come by it later. Chances are probably big that ill meet you again there. The world is a small place after all these days."
He took his time enjoying his coffee smiling "Finally seems that I'm finally starting to wake up decently." The last few minutes he felt himself more refreshed and less sleepy as the coffee finally seemed to work its magic on him. He had stopped jawing after his second cup and he rubbed one last time in his eyes before he felt completely ready again. "Coffee really works wonders for me." he smirks lowering his voice again. "Dream powers or not without this i would probably pass trough the whole day like a zombie half asleep."
