The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Character
Personality: A sort of happy-go-lucky goth, Jake is quite open towards others and generally holds nothing back. He is quite friendly and is all smiles and friendly faces and enjoys helping others out; quite counter-intuitive, given his powers - almost as if he is trying to make up for having them. Given all this, he likes the darker side of life - he is a follower of the Gothic culture, after all. Hobbies/ Interests: Poetry and reading in general, has even written a few things himself, although nothing that is publishing material. Job or part time job and description: Student Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Has quite vivid nightmares, mostly about his own death, and has a fear of Teddy Bears (don't ask) Special talents: Math, surprisingly enough. Finds most school math so easy it is boring, yet struggles to explain how he knows how to do most of it ^^;
Morality
Neutral: He has to be to contend with his powers. Both the good and the bad must suffer and it often tears him apart.
Mutations
Mutation description: Nightmare Consumption. Through physical contact, Jake can put a person to sleep and conjure up the most powerful nightmares possible by utilizing the victim's own fears. These nightmares can become so powerful that they can even cause physical damage to a the dreamer's body. He feeds off this fear,in fact, he needs it to survive, and the more he feeds the more powerful he becomes.
Once he reaches a certain level of consumed power (a process that can take a few minutes, depending on the strength of the fear of his first victim), he can conjure up nightmares of other people in the near-by vicinity, after the initial possession and without physical contact. He can use these to attack and even kill, if they're not well controlled (he doesn't *want* to kill people). These conjurations are visible only to Jake and those they belong too, yet the damage they inflict upon their owners is very obvious to everyone.
The way nightmares come to life is similar to the phenomena of the Poltergeist - The fears become real because the victim's subconscious believes them to be so. The Nightmares cannot injure other people (I.e. attack someone other than whom the fears were taken from).
Strengths: Manipulates nightmares to the point that they physically manifest themselves and injure their hosts; once physical contact has been released from the first victim, they will remain asleep for a good few hours at least and will not remember Jake nor the nightmares afterwards.
Weaknesses: 1) Must feed on, at minimum, a weak nightmare every two or three days. If he does not, he will quickly degrade into a state similar to severe dehydration or malnutrition. This will cause eventual sickness, however it is not fatal, just incapacitating and *very* painful.
2) He is constantly afflicted by his own powers in his sleep I.e. he sees powerful nightmares; they do not cause harm to himself and have yet to harm anyone else, but often break and/or possess inanimate objects. This possession of inanimate objects is unique to his own nightmares and does not come into effect when concerning the use of his powers on others. This act of possession does drain Jake of some energy, however it is small enough to be negligible. It is likely this constant drain each night is why he needs to feed every few days.
2) Must maintain physical contact with the initial victim. However, he can 'skip' victims if one is in danger of previous injury. He does this by touching another victim, and letting go completely (as in both the nightmares and in touch)of the first. A forced disconnection may cause a 'backlash' on Jake, causing some fatigue and mild confusion for a few moments.
3) Can cause death in the victim(s) in extreme or uncontrolled cases;
Secondary mutation description: none as of yet Strengths: Weaknesses:
Fighting Style
Explanation: Holds a blue belt in Kung Fu, but prefers to let his nightmares do the fighting for him. Pros for fighting style: Most enemies never get close to him; they're far more concerned in fighting their own fears. Cons for fighting style: Those that realise that the only way to stop the nightmares is to stop him tend to be able to. When fighting the majority of mutants, Kung Fu alone is not very effective.
Faction Allegiance Unaffiliated
History Of Your Character: Jake lived most of his early life in Australia; nothing too special, just your usual suburban family. He first began to develop his powers at the age of 13, causing little more than a few small object to fly around the room while he slept. He began to have nightmares around this time too, although these greatly paled compared to what he now experiences. His parents were far from being mutant haters, in fact they were a fair deal more open minded and accepting than most people on the subject and, believing this to be the onset of psychic abilities, encouraged him to try and use his powers. He, obviously, consistently failed to exhibit any kind of psychic ability whist awake. The first indication that things weren't quite right was around his 15th birthday, when the objects in his bedroom stopped randomly moving and instead took on lives of their own. Figurines walked around, interacting with each other; Cars raced about on the floor; toy planes flew through the air, carrying passengers of all kinds; desk lamps would hop about, lighting up things and studying them before hopping away to the next thing. The room was pure organised chaos - every inanimate object was alive, And through it all, Jake was locked in a deep nightmare. This behaviour continued, only getting more intense as the nights progressed. Things came to a dangerous head a year later during a fight with the school bully. Jake grabbed the other boy in an attempt to push him to the ground and out of his way, yet something else took over. The bully fell into a coma-like sleep and was obviously having a very vivid nightmare. Jake felt good, as, unbeknown to him at the time, something else had awoken in that instant and had begun to feed upon the nightmare, increasing the power until cuts began to appear on on the boy's body; long scratch marks, like he was being mauled by a large dog or lion. It wasn't until then that he snapped out of it and released the boy. He cut school that day, retreating home and not going back for another week. Over time, control, to a certain degree, came naturally to him, yet his hunger and need to feed upon the nightmares never left. He eventually heard about a school for mutants like him and decided that that was where he needed to be.

Jake sat inside the terminal, bags sitting beside him, struggling to stay awake as he waited for the taxi he ordered. ‘Jet lag is one hell of a bugger’, he thought to himself as he stifled another yawn. He laughed suddenly as he realised it was Thursday. “I left home tomorrow.” He murmured to himself with a grin and light-heartedly punched the air, “Whoo, I’m a time traveler.” He checked his watch again; 4:50pm, like the last five times he checked it. He had left at about 7ish in the morning, the flight was little more than an hour long and he had booked the taxi for 5. He had thought it smart at the time, ‘It’ll give me some time to get used to the place. Bah, right now I just wanna get to my hotel, spend the rest of the day asleep – the nightmares can go to hell, as far as I’m concerned – then go to this… oh god, what’s it called again…?’ He groaned and reached into his pocket for the paper the instructions were written on, ‘Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters, urg, what stuck-up prat thought of that name?’ He laughed, ‘Probably this Xavier bloke. Well, if they can help me with my problem, no sense making fun of the place just yet.’ He looked up and watched as a Taxi pulled up outside. He sighed and got up, “This had better be mine, or, I swear, I’m giving *someone* a right nasty nightmare tonight.” He muttered to himself without conviction as he picked up his two bags and made his way to the Taxi. “You waiting for Jake Aduro?” He asked the guy inside.
“Yeah, you ‘im?” Was the rather straight forward reply. Jake grinned.
“Finally, I was getting worried there for a minute. You got the route?” The driver nodded in reply and popped the boot. After a few minutes, he was home free. 'Or will be.' He thought as the taxi made its way through the crowed streets.
Love the sample RP. I did some of that time traveling myself not too long ago... lol Also, hearts and candy for Poltergeist. This will be cool. I look forward to RPing with you.
