Individual
Character's full name: Priscilla “Cactus” Magdalena Alias/ Nickname/ Code name: Thorn or “Cactus” as called by teasing friends or foes, though she prefers ‘thorn’ because she thinks it makes her sound cooler. Gender: Female Age: 20 Birthday: March 8 Nationality/ Ethnicity: Mixed European, mainly English, French, and Spanish. Birthplace/ Home/ Place of origin: New York, New York
Appearance
Hair colour and style: Light brown with some blonde highlights. Eyes: Hazel Height: 5’7’’ Build: Lean, and a bit toned. She’s not particularly eye-catching, body wise. Visible mutation: Priscilla has thorns coming out of parts of her body, There is also a bit of flimsy foliage growing out of parts her mid section which fans in all directions, covering her in a way that vaguely resembles a corset mini-dress. Scars/ Tattoos/ Piercings: None. Seeing as she has needles in her, Priscilla felt no need to get any piercings. Other features: Nothing too notable. If a slightly oval face counts, which has always bothered her, then sure.
Everyday clothing style: Priscilla wears green. Lots of green, in fact. The main reason is so if people happen to see some of the green foliage peaking out, she can pretend it’s a dress. In fact, if let out, it does look quite a bit like a small dress. Not that she would ever want to go out in public like that. She’d be much too insecure. Uniform: The only sort of costume that Priscilla has is being in the nude, which as mentioned before, looks an awful lot like a short foliage mini-dress. Miraculously, the large leaves manage to prevent anyone from seeing anything she wouldn’t want them to, but still, she’d prefer sweatpants and a green shirt. Sleepwear: Prissy is a fan of comfortable clothing like sweatpants and sweatshirts. She doesn’t like clothes that are too flimsy though, or the leaves will bulge out slightly, and making strangers think she’s overweight is not on her list of things to do. Miscellaneous clothing: Priscilla is a pretty casual girl when it comes to clothing. She tries not to wear clothing that’s too flimsy out in public, and is insecure enough in her body not to reveal too much skin, so she’s often caught in clothing that’s not too tight or loose. She likes jeans, but the problem with them is sometimes the thorns pierce through them, and that’s never good.
Character
Personality: Priscilla is not necessarily shy, as people tend to assume, as more introverted and slightly xenophobic. If you’ve just met her, you can’t get her to talk. If you’re friends with her, you can’t get her to shut up. While she has gotten called out for her occasional ‘prickly disposition’ (see what I did thar?), she’s really kind at heart, if a bit defensive. She loves hugs, and is a sucker for friendly physical contact, and quickly becomes the loudest person in a room full of people she knows. She’s very awkward and a bit neurotic and over-analytical, partly due to her high-education upbringing, but can let loose and have fun, provided people are pushing her the entire way. Hobbies/ Interests: Priscilla, as one would expect, is a fan of gardening. Since she appears to be part-plant, she really connects with her fellow flora. When she wants to talk to someone, she doesn’t go to a diary, she goes to her flowers. Her favorite flowers are white rhododendron, with white roses coming a close second. When she’s not watering, or talking, to plants, she can usually be found curling up with a good book or playing a video game. While not a fan of sports titles, she’s partial to less hardcore games, or even a couple of first person shooters, as her brother coaxed her into playing. Job or part time job and description: None. She has a hard time finding work with the way she looks. Fears/ phobias/ concerns: As mentioned before, Priscilla is slightly xenophobic. While not diagnosed, she is extremely awkward around strangers and finds it very hard to talk to people she doesn’t know. Even eye contact is a bit difficult to her. Having just met a person, she constantly worries that they dislike her, or she just did something extremely stupid. Priscilla fails at interacting with people that she does not know, and thus has a spot of trouble socializing with people outside of her friend group. Special talents: Priscilla has taken several gymnastic and dance classes before her mutation occurred, which has given her increased flexibility and agility. She’s also intelligent, although she likes to pretend to be dumber than she actually is. It helps get guys, according to her.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good. Although one could say neutral as well. Priscilla is a law-abiding citizen, and disapproves of mutants trying to take over the world, but isn’t quite as gung-ho as some other mutants. She would help in times of need, but wouldn’t be the one to take credit and/or seek out another opponent. In short, she’s the type of girl that would help on missions, but wouldn’t necessarily look forward to them.
Mutations
Mutation description: Priscilla seems to be part plant. Spines appear from all parts of the body where she grows hair, apart from the under arm and crotch area, which is rather mysterious, and there are flimsy green leaves coming from her midsection and chest which fan out to cover her crotch, upper legs and chest. (See signature). Strangely enough, the hair on her head are not spines. Like other people, Priscilla can shave off these spines (which seem to be a replacement for hair) or pick it out, but it is painful. Her leaves also produce pheromones and a weak poison. The pheromones do nothing more than smell nice, but the poison has a similar effect of food poisoning. When ingested it causes stomach pain and diarrhea, and general discomfort. Unlike food poisoning, this takes only a couple of minutes for the stomach pain to occur, though it’s fecal matter-related symptoms usually aren’t apparent until the next day. Priscilla has been known to tip the ends of her thorns with this poison, to make her weapons less useless. She herself, is immune to the poison, however. Strengths: Having her thorns grow at double the rate normal human body hair grows gives her an endless supply of free weapons. She keeps a pouch near her waist, made from one of her giant leaves, where she stores unused thorns. She also likes to stick a couple in her hair to not only hold her hair up when it’s in a bun, which it often is, but as a quick storage place for her weapons. Weaknesses: Because she has sharp thorns growing out of her, it makes physical contact harder. She has to be careful not to prick people when she hugs or shakes their hands. It also stops her from wearing such articles of clothing like tight shirts, tight jeans, or anything in the ‘tight’ family, unless she has just shaved off the thorns. In addition, these thorns do next to no damage. It leaves about the same cut size as a paper cut, and doesn’t do any lasting damage unless the poison is applied. It can be distracting and annoying, however, and if the thorns are pushed in by some other force, it could lead to more severe injuries.
Secondary mutation description: Not Applicable Strengths: None Weaknesses: None
Fighting Style
Explanation: Priscilla is not trained in any real fighting style, but her years of gymnastics and dancing make her a fast and agile ‘hit-and-run’ type. Hand-to-hand combat is not her specialty, and even if she resorted to it, it probably wouldn’t be too effective, but she could probably hold her own for a very short time with a couple of gymnastic moves, in the hopes of kicking her opponent. Pros for fighting style: Because she is agile, she is harder to hit. And also due to her gymnastics and dance training, she’s flexible which translates to a fairly fierce, if very amateur, contestant in a duel. Still, she much prefers supporting others by using long ranged tactics and the occasional hit and run physical strike. Cons for fighting style: She has no experience whatsoever. She’s a complete blank slate when it comes to actual fighting, so she probably wouldn’t know what to do in such a situation except dodge, throw thorns, and run.
Faction Allegiance Unaffiliated, though I hope she can be a student.
History Of Your Character: Priscilla Magdalena was born into a middle-class working family in the city of New York. Her family owned an apartment where she spent most of her life growing up. Her sister and her, Sarah, attended a nearby school and would walk there everyday. Priscilla began to grow accustomed to the sounds of sirens coming from police cars and the reports of mutant mayhem. As a result, Priscilla grew up being surrounded by people that would hate who she would become, and in turn she began to harbor a dislike to mutants as well.
Due to her natural intelligence, Priscilla earned a partial scholarship to Yale School of Drama in New Haven, Connecticut. There, she learned overall design, including but not limited to set design, costume design, and lighting design, and discovered what she wanted to do with her life. Priscilla, not being a very charismatic person, never took to the ways of acting, but enjoyed theatre on the side.
By her Sophomore year in college, at the age of eighteen and a half, Priscilla’s powers began to emerge. Though most mutants powers appear during puberty, Priscilla’s only began to noticeable occur during the end of puberty. Before hand, she had noticed the prickly spines slowly growing out of her skin, but she attributed that to shorter hair being coarser, and didn’t think too much about it. By the middle of her sophomore year, she began wearing looser clothing in order to hide the plant-like attributes of herself.
Finally, after a couple months of hiding, she left the school with no explanation and returned home. She only stayed for a week or so at her house, avoiding questions and sulking in her room. Eventually, she made the decision to leave, realizing that her conservative family would never accept her.
Priscilla had left her house with just her suitcase, clothing, and all the money she could carry with her in one of her leaf bags attached to her body. Despite hating herself, she couldn’t deny the usefulness of the giant leaves which hung off her. Priscilla lived for quite some time going hotel/motel to the next, leaving little or no trace, and travelling just about every day. She survived on complementary breakfasts and kept going until her bank account started to empty out. By that time it had been almost a year.
After seeing a fellow mutant being attacked by police officers, Priscilla finally decided it was time for action. She picked out several thorns from her pouch and launched them towards the officers, skewering their skin. Of course, it didn’t do too much damage, merely piercing through a layer of skin and making them look like they were getting acupuncture on their arms, but it provided the necessary distraction for the mutant to get away. Priscilla took the cue to run as well, throwing thorns behind her as a distraction.
For a while, unbeknownst to the mutant, Priscilla stalked him, both observing what he was doing and where he was going, and that’s when she was eventually introduced to the place that would be her haven for years to come: A safe haven for mutants, the Sister School of Charles Xavier.
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Google. I wanted to get back into roleplaying so I searched ‘X-Men RP’ and this is the first that came up that wasn’t inactive. Do you have any other existing characters, if so who: None Sample RP:
Priscilla dodged to one side bringing her head down to avoid a fast punch and sticking her right leg out in an attempt to trip one of her pursuers. They were just hateful street kids, but she knew that physically, they had the advantage. What they wanted to do with her, she did not want to imagine. Priscilla hit the other with her suitcase and ran, still clutching firmly and desperately on to her belongings which held the secret of living – money.
She dashed through the alleyways until she found a dead end, threw her suitcase into it and backed in front of it to block off the path to her suitcase. She then looked around at her surroundings and waited for her pursuers. Checking her leaf-box, she could see that she had enough to deal with the muggers, hopefully. As a precaution, she picked several smaller thorns from her left arm and held them, in her fingers, ready for an attack.
After what seemed like hours, she heard footsteps and talking, and suddenly saw the thinner mugger coming after her, fist up. Priscilla made a short dash to the left, dodging his blow and threw the thorns at his face, maneuvering around him. They speared him in the cheek, causing him to bleed as much as he would if he got several paper cuts. Needless to say, her thorns were pretty useless without the benefit of readying them with her leaves’ poison.
He began to approach her and she yelped as she realized the bigger one was behind her and already grabbed her arms. Seeing no escape as the thinner man approached her, she managed to maneuver her legs in a way to high kick him, the heel of her shoe hitting him square in the nose. He collapsed onto the ground, giving Priscilla enough of a distraction to slam the back of her head into the man behind her. Because she kept several thorns there to keep her hair up, the thorns pierced through the man’s black wife-beater and through a layer of his skin. She wrenched her hands free, ran forward to get her suitcase and left the helpless man to fend for himself. From a short distance, she could hear the larger one trying to recover the slimmer one.
Priscilla checked into a hotel a short two hours later, greeted the man at the front desk, and nodded at him. She refused needing help taking her bags upstairs, and entered the elevator alone. Once she reached her room, she prepared the bed, by picking and shaving off all of her thorns so she wouldn’t ruin the bedsheets, and locked her door. This was only her second month outside, and she was already exhausted.
