Character's real name: Alexander Milam. Codename/Alias: none
Gender: Male Age: 37 Nationality/Ethnicity:Caucasian Birthplace: Hartford, Connecticut Personality: A very energetic and happy man, he is more prone than most to make a funny or witty remark at any given time. He is slow to anger and quick to forgive. Alex will usually try to become friends with almost anyone he meets. The phrase "Hail fellow, well met!" could have been made for him. Notes (Hobbies, Phobias, Worries, ect.): He teaches physics, and he exercises every day.
Allegiance (Good, Bad, or Neutral): Good
Everyday clothing: Due to his power, he likes as much of his skin to be exposed to the air as possible. He prefers wearing short pants and a tank top or T-shirt. Uniform (Optional. Required if eventually becoming part of the X-Men): Shorts and a dark tank-top with the X-men logo. Pajamas: just underwear
Hair color and style: short, brown Eye color: Hazel Height: 5' 11'' Build: Slim and toned
Scars: none Tattoos: none Piercings: none Description of ability(ies): His skin can take in and release air. This can be used in a variety of ways: *It acts as a second respiratory system. Oxygen taken in through his skin out of the air (or from water) is sent directly into his muscles, and any surplus oxygen supplements that which is already in his blood, for later use. Because being tired from physical exertion is derived from lack of oxygen to the muscles, Alex's double respiratory system makes it very difficult for him to tire himself out. Furthermore, he recovers from any physical stress (but not injuries) more quickly. Though there is rarely any reason to do so, he can stop this process at will. *Alex can take air in at an accelerated rate in certain parts of his skin. This creates suction, allowing him to do anything from simply having a firm grip on something to climbing on walls (possibly even running for short periods, if barefoot). *He can suck air through every pore in his body, build it up for a second or two, and release all of that air through a small area in his skin. This creates an intense blast of compressed air that can propel the average man about 15 feet back. If he channels this through his feet, he can use it to jump very high. Cons (weaknesses) of ability(ies): *Any airborne virus or poison will get into his system much more quickly than it would a normal human due to his two respiratory systems, given he does not see it coming and shut that second system down. *Using his skin for anything other than respiration will make his secondary respiration inactive or lessened for a limited time. Because he is so used to the supplementation of this system, he tires out more quickly than a normal human while not using it. *Alex feels lightheaded and disoriented for several seconds after using his burst. Repeated use may give him the bends and cause his pores to bleed.
Fighting style (if any): He until recently used to take martial arts classes of several sorts, both to stay in shape and because it was fun. He never thought it would come in handy. Regardless, he knows many maneuvers from Judo and Taekwondo, along with several from Savate, all of which he would use against anybody who may threaten him. His ability to grapple and pin somebody is greatly augmented by his ability to create suction. He uses his burst in various ways, such as propelling himself forward for an attack, or propelling his enemies backward.
History of your character: Alex had a mostly normal childhood. Other than being an extraordinary athlete thanks to his powers, he was rather unexceptional. Nothing important ever happened to him until he was around eleven, when he unconsciously started to create suction in his skin at random times and in random places. It wouldn't come to much other than him being unable to let go of something, or being unable to change a piece of clothing, or being stuck to a wall or piece of furniture for a bit. After a while, he figured out what was going on and learned to control it. He never displayed it, for fear of being labeled as some sort of freak, but he did play around with it when he was alone. When he learned that he could generate enough suction to climb walls, he had an absolute field day with it, crawling around the walls and ceiling of his room. It made him feel like a super hero from the comic books. In fact, at one point he dressed up one Halloween in a home-made super hero costume and crawled around on various buildings, scaring trick-or-treaters and parents alike. This became something of a hit on local news stations, and so he would repeat it every year, each time with a different costume. When his other power manifested itself, things didn't go very well for him and those around him. The first time that it happened was during a standardized test. One of his shoes flew clean off of his foot, bouncing off of a wall and hitting a fellow student in the head. The second time he was playing a game of tag, and he unconsciously fired one out of his hand while trying to tag somebody, throwing both of them in opposite directions. Several people ended up getting hurt before Alex realized what was going on, and so he sought to control this ability. It was a much easier task for him this time around, having learned to control something vaguely similar before. Having gotten through childhood with powers under control, he decided that he would become a teacher, having wanted to do this since a young age, and having never quite changed this notion. So then he earned his teaching degree, and then he began to teach high school physics at a school in Pennsylvania. This job went very well for several years, until a certain PTA meeting which addressed the issue of how the school district should address the mutant portion of the student body. Apparently, a child with a temper as violent as his powers had been involved in an accident which left several students paralyzed, dozens injured, and one unfortunate killed. Alex tried his best to convince the PTA that mutants were people too, in the process revealing that he himself was one. The principal, who apparently had quite a strong anti-mutant sentiment, made certain that Alex would be forced to teach elsewhere. At the next school where he taught, he told few about his mutant status. The job went well for him for several years, until the mutant registration law required him to distinguish himself as a mutant, which did not go over well with parents thanks in no small part to mutant tensions from the KP incident. These parents had a powerful hold over the school administration, but Alex decided to quit before he would be fired. Even though the act was ultimately repealed, it made him consider where his career would go. So many parents were truly afraid of mutants such as him that he could easily forsee any job not lasting very long. Where could he find a place to teach that can accept mutants? The answer came to him through the newspaper: an article about the rebuilding of Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters triggered his thinking seriously about working there. After some thought, he finally chose that he should give it a try.
Sample RP: Alex lugged the last of his bags down to the car. He was excited about what he was going to do. Well, what he hoped he was going to do. He didn't know how to contact them about getting the job, so he decided to just go to the place and try to get an interview. So here he was. Just as he was about to put his bags in the trunk -- "Where did I put my keys?" He patted down his pockets, made a quick search of his bags, and decided that he must have left them in his apartment. As he was heading to the entrance of his apartment building, he spotted his balcony on the side of the building, and something occurred to him. He walked back into the parking lot and took a good look at it. After a while, a smile crossed his face. "I am a mutant, and how long has it been since I've enjoyed my powers?" He kicked off his sandals and began to climb the three stories up. Having gotten the keys and come back down, he noticed that a kid had been filming this excursion on his cellphone. The year before, Alex would have been scared that he would have had to find another job because of this, but now he had no such fears. He just smiled and waved at the boy before throwing his stuff into the car and heading for New York City. He felt like a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. Now, he no longer needed to worry about people knowing that he was a mutant. Where he was going, everyone else was one too.

Very interesting political angle on the teacher/mutant issue--reminds me quite a bit of what's currently going on with the GLBT community and education. Whether that parallel was intentional or not, kudos; you've clearly put thought not only into your character as a "super hero", but as a real person who must deal with other real people, as well. Welcome to MRO.
