The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

(( OOC: Happening shortly after Hide and Seek is over, before the Putto rescue. Open to anyone, but intended for Kitra. ))
Sonya/Teresa is no longer entirely sure what she expected to find once she made it into the Resistance’s inner sanctum – or, well, outer sanctum, at least – but the reality is at once pleasant and disappointing.
The pleasant part is actually seeing mutants, even obvious mutants like Abyss, wandering around like they belonged, training together, etc.. She’d gotten some of that back in Sanctuary before it was destroyed, but only for a couple of days, and she’d forgotten how much she missed it – especially by comparison to the Camps. The disappointing part is the pervasive sense of waiting. Everyone she talks to is either training or waiting to be told what to do next, and it’s getting on her nerves.
So while she’s here, she’s been throwing herself into the self-assigned task of getting to know as many of the Lab’s residents as she can. Lately, she’s been combining that job with picking up a hobby she hasn’t really had a chance to exercise since before her new life started… she’s noticed that people don’t mind being inspected quite so much if their inspector has a sketchpad in hand.
Besides, while Sonya’s never been a great artist – and her new status as a shapeshifting, mind-stealing mutant doesn’t seem to have changed that in any way – she genuinely enjoys drawing, especially faces. It’s relaxing, it centers her, and she hasn’t had the opportunity to indulge in something she genuinely enjoys for quite some time.
Which explains why she’s sitting alone at a large table, with a rare steak and a baked potato largely neglected to her left, and a large sketchpad and a collection of colored pencils to her right, drawing quick portraits of people as they eat their dinners.
Kitra was hungry, really hungry. She had just finished yet another training session. She frowned though, she hadn't been able to train using her paper abilities yet. She didn't want to hurt someone by accident. She thought she should maybe ask, Kaz wasn't it? Perhaps he would be able to train with her.
But enough thoughts about training, time to eat. She arrived at the Canteen only to find someone at a table, alone and sketching.. She went up to the counter and nabbed some food. Kitra padded her way over to the table and looked over the gal's shoulder. "Not bad, but it looks like your food is getting a bit on the neglected side." She grinned, "May I sit?"
> "Not bad, but it looks like your food is getting a bit on the neglected side. May I sit?"
Sonya/Teresa grins back at the new girl. "Sure, but you have to promise not to make fun of my sketches. I’m not very good, but it’s relaxing, you know? I’m Teresa, by the way. Just arrived today."
She looks the girl over attentively and starts sketching rapidly. Between her reddish-brown hair, purple and green feathers, and complicated-color eyes, this turns into a flurry of colored-pencil swapping. "Heh. Need the whole box to get you on paperm huh?"
Kitra grinned grimly, "I like seeing other people sketch, but I don't like being sketched myself." 'I have no clue what her powers really are. I don't want anything of me in sketches or otherwise.' "She reached over and tapped the sketch of her. "I want this destroyed. I know, not a nice way to make friends. But, ya know." Kitra shrugged as she sat down. "I get crabby when I'm hungry. Sorry."
Sonya/Teresa raises a irritated eyebrow and her smile disappears. "Oh? Anything else of mine you want to order destroyed, or just the sketch?" Not that she has any particular attachment to the sketch, but the girl's peremptory tone does nothing to encourage her to be cooperative. "Maybe I should poke my eyes out while I'm at it, O Mistress With No Name?"
Kitra snickered, "Name's Kitra, and no just that sketch of me." She was still smirking as she enjoyed her nummy medium rare steak. "Sorry, as I said, I'm grouchy when I don't eat." She streatched slightly, wincing as her muscles protested. "So why the sketches of random people? Is that part of your mutation?" 'There we go Kit, let's be outright and blunt with a newbie.' She sighed inwardly, she was being a bit too growly.
> "Sorry, as I said, I'm grouchy when I don't eat."
“Good thing you’re eating, then,” she replies neutrally, indicating Kitra’s steak. “And apology accepted, Kitra. Been here a while?”
> "So why the sketches of random people? Is that part of your mutation?"
“Nope, just a hobby. Like I said, it relaxes me… haven’t really had a chance to indulge since getting to town, what with all the crazy machines trying to kill me and stuff.” She thinks about the question for a second, and adds “What kind of mutation would involve sketching?”
Kitra shrugged, "Not a clue. But mutations can be anything, so ya never know." She continued eating and took a sip of her orange juice. "And yes, I've been here awhile." She looked down at her plate, she was still hungry. Sighing she got back up and took her dirty plate to the washers and headed back to the counter for more food. She came back with two baked potatoes and another medium rare steak. "She looked up with a sheepish grin, "Extensive physical training. Just finished another session with one of my trainers."
> “What kind of mutation would involve sketching?” > "Not a clue. But mutations can be anything, so ya never know."
"Yeah, I’ve noticed. " She closes her sketchpad and moves it to one side as she starts in on her neglected dinner. "Back at Sanctuary, some of them were obvious… like the girl with the cat-fur, and the giant red guy… but most of them were like you, no way to tell by looking at them whether they were mutants, or what they could do. There was this one guy it turns out could throw fire around, you never would’ve guessed it by looking at him." She takes a few bites of her steak before adding, casually, "What about you? Mutant or baseline?"
"Mutant, you?" Kitra was cautious, she wasn't about to tell this girl what her powers were. "I'm not positive on the boundaries of my powers, so I don't talk about them much." She shrugged and continued munching on her food. *not much coming to mind atm.* "So where are you from?"
Sonya/Teresa nods. “Yeah, same here. I figure most of the new arrivals are, if not all. Tell you the truth, I was surprised by how many baseliners are working here… I was expecting an all-mutant Resistance camp.” She eats her meal through the awkward pauses, curious as to what Kitra isn’t talking about but not wanting to pry.
> "I'm not positive on the boundaries of my powers, so I don't talk about them much."
She nods again, sympathetically. “Yeah, I can understand that. Some folks have awfully confusing abilities around here. Guess I’m lucky… my talent is pretty straightforward.”
> "So where are you from?" “The Bronx, originally. Sanctuary, more recently.” She shrugs. “Now I guess I’m not really from anywhere. You guys had it easier, being based out of here in the first place… didn’t have to face the Stalkers or the police.”
None of which she really wants to talk all that much about, even though it’s a huge load off her mind knowing Abyss doesn’t blame her for running away. So she awkwardly changes the subject. “So, ‘extensive physical training’, huh? That part of your mutation, or do you just like to stay in shape?”
Kitra grinned, "Staying in shape to the most part. Bit of my mutant comes into play. Not much though, it's confusing to explain." She frowned though at the mention of the Stalkers. She hated those things with a passion. She finished up another one of her butter, loaded potatoe. "You do anything for fun at all?" Kitra was curious, maybe she would have a better time chatting with her if they were doing something they liked.
With a rueful grin, Sonya/Teresa picks up her sketchpad and indicates it, then puts it back down. “But you’ve already made your position on unauthorized sketching clear. I also play a mean guitar… not good, you understand, just mean. Though, honestly, I haven’t had much time to just kick back and have fun for months now.
> “Bit of my mutant comes into play. Not much though, it's confusing to explain."
She chuckles. “So you keep saying… so of course, now you’ve piqued my curiosity. What is your oh-so-confusing mutation?”
Kitra chuckled, "No, no just me. Sketch anyone else you like." She shrugged, "I can make weapons and bring them into being with my mind." It wasn't quite the truth, but it would do. She stacked up her dirty dishes and finished her drink. "So, any sports like activities you like doing? Maybe archery or something."
> "I can make weapons and bring them into being with my mind."
Sonya/Teresa nods slowly. " That’s pretty cool. Can you also teleport? Only other mutant I know who can do that, can also teleport. "
> "So, any sports-like activities you like doing? Maybe archery or something."
She shrugs in response. " Not really. I used to work out more, but I haven’t really had the time lately. I jog when I get the chance." Teresa, she knows, was a physical-fitness buff and an avid jogger… which Sonya has appreciated from time to time while wearing the body… but they'd gotten out of the habit of exercising regularly once she realized that she can maintain her muscle-tone just by resetting her form regularly. Which she has to do anyway, especially with all the healing and the shifting back and forth she’s done lately.
"I’ve never archered. I’m a halfway decent shot with a handgun, but I guess that doesn’t really count as “sports-like,” huh? "
