The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Christmas.
Oh boy. Tarin honestly hadn’t thought about Christmas in a while. He’d thought about Lee’s birthday and her request for stars and quiet, but Christmas was pretty much right after that and he was going to have to figure something out.
Yikes. Tarin didn’t think he had ever gotten anyone anything for Christmas, let alone something for someone he actually cared about. ”Guess I’m going to have to stumble along with every other poor schmuck. I probably should have started looking and planning weeks ago.” he said, the banter coming far more easily than any actual ideas. Tarin decided he was going to have to pay attention, look for hints, figure things out. It was still August. There was plenty of time. No need to worry about it with all the chaos happening.
It had been a stressful day. Potentially the most stressful one that Tarin had had since the night in the park and the days that had followed… The day he’d gone on his ill-advised trip to the Mansion and the argument that had followed had been stressful too, but none of that had held the same life or death edge that today had held. ”Well, we’re safe now. Kevin is safe. There’s not anything else we can do until we know what’s actually going on, so we’re doing the best thing we can do.” . The words even sounded hollow to him, because while he knew that they were doing exactly what they should be doing… ”You think the shop is going to be okay?.”

Was that a momentary look of panic in Tarin's eyes? Obviously not the same kind of panic that might have been there earlier that afternoon, but it definitely looked like a moment of 'oh crap' as he realized christmas meant presents.
At least Tarin teased and joked back so it wasn't an all out panic at the idea.
"It's a good thing you're cute when you stumble, then," Lee said with a grin up at Tarin. Not that Lee thought he would actually have problems when it came to it. Not with how observant and thoughtful Tarin was on a daily basis. It wasn't as though Lee needed or wanted anything spectacular, either.
Tarin was completely right about what they could or should be doing right then, too. And the way that he trailed off at the end… They were safe, Kevin was safe, and they didn't know what was going on. So sitting there at home was exactly what they should be doing.
Even if it felt like they should be doing more.
And the shop…. "For the most part, it should be alright," Lee said thoughtfully. "You didn't really have a whole lot in front, so I doubt looters would be overly interested, but there's definitely some cleanup we'll have to do.
"The back of the shop should be fine, though," Lee continued as she looked up at Tarin. "Unless a mutant decided they really needed to get back there, that panic door should hold up without problem." That had been one of the requirements of it; the panic door needed to withstand as many different situations as possible.

He was cute when he stumbled? It was probably good thing Lee thought so because it seemed to be what he’d been good at all day. ”One of my many endearing qualities…” he said with a small chuckle in response to that grin on Lee’s face.
Lee’s logic made sense with regard to the shop. There really wasn’t much in the front. Mostly knickknacks and furniture, there wasn’t space for more.
If it was just general clean up, Tarin could be happy with that considering how bad things were going to probably be for people who had actual merchandise in their businesses.
People like Lee’s sister.
”Hey, have you heard from Rachel or Matt…or your brother?” he asked, sitting up a bit more on the couch, movie forgotten for the moment.
Hopefully they’d be better at answering their phones than Kevin had been because if she hadn’t already heard from them, Tarin had a feeling Lee was going to be calling them soon.

Lee's grin softened into a happy smile as she looked up at Tarin. "One of many," Lee said softly before leaning up to give him a kiss. Because of everything else that had happened that day, there had definitely not been enough of that.
Turning back to the movie, Lee was only starting to pay attention again when she heard Tarin speak. Asking if she had heard from Rachel or Matt.
Between trying to get back to the shop, and then panicking because Kevin hadn't answered his phone, Lee honestly hadn't thought about anyone else. Her hand releasing Tarin's, Lee reached into her pocket to pull out her phone and check for missed messages or calls.
There were none.
"No, nothing," Lee said as she pulled up Rachel's number to call.

Well, it was gratifying that Lee agreed that stumbling was only one of his good qualities. Tarin didn’t know what he’d have done otherwise. Then Lee kissed him and he sighed a happy sigh as they settled in to watch the movie.
Lee hadn’t heard from Rachel or Matt though and very quickly she was sitting up, releasing his hand and calling Rachel her phone.
Taking a deep breath and starting to make plans regarding the fastest way to Rachel’s storefront, Tarin waited with bated breath as the phone rang. And rang. And rang.
”Lee?” Tarin could hear the voice the second the phone connected and he heaved out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. Rachel was a more than capable person, but this kind of situation was not going to remotely be in her wheelhouse.
The fact that Rachel had answered meant that Lee’s sister was okay, but didn’t necessarily mean that she didn’t need help. So Tarin waited while they talked, ready for anything.

With each and every ring, Lee was growing more and more panicked. With everything that had been going on that day, Lee honestly hadn't thought about Rachel until Tarin had mentioned her, themselves and Kevin had taken over priority in her brain. But Rachel was definitely within the area that this chaos was happening in the city. If she wasn't answering, that could only mean that something was wrong. And they had been closer to Rachel's boutique, as well as to hers and Matt's apartment before they had come home themselves. It would have been better, easier, faster to have gone-
"Lee?"
"Oh thank goodness Rachel!" Lee exclaimed when her sister finally answered the phone.
Lee spoke with Rachel for a short time, during which time she learned that Matt and Robert were safe as well. Though most of the time on the phone was spent reassuring Rachel that both the bar and the boutique would be fine. Lee knew what was covered by the insurance policies for both businesses, and ended up having to tell Rachel repeatedly that even if something did happen to either place, everything would be fine.
Finally, Lee seemed to have calmed Rachel's anxiety about damage enough that she was able to hang up and she looked over at Tarin. "They're all fine," she told him in case he hadn't enough of the conversation to have figured that out. "Though they have no clue about how the bar or boutique have fared so far.

Tarin could hear the back and forth, and honestly he could empathize a bit with Rachel. It was nerve wracking to think about the shop being trashed. Everything was much lower stakes for Tarin too, since as he and Lee had discussed, he didn’t have much in the way of material goods to be concerned with in the storefront.
For Rachel and Matt, that wasn’t the case.
Lee, as always, knew everything and did a rather impressive job of trying to calm Rachel down and seemed to have been at least marginally successful by the time she hung up the phone.
At the news that everyone was, in fact, fine Tarin nodded and ran a hand through his hair and heaved a sigh. ”Is there anyone else we can possibly think of that we need to call?” he said, ”Because I think we’ve had more than enough stress and worry for the night.”
This time, instead of just reaching out and taking Lee’s hand, Tarin simply held his hand out for her to take if she wanted, ”For the next couple of hours, I don’t want to think of a single thing outside this apartment.”

Lee thought for a moment. There were definitely a few people that Lee would think of checking on at some point, but she couldn't think of anyone else that it made sense to check on in the middle of something like this. Sam and Shin would almost certainly be out in this, and Lee wasn't even sure if they would have their phones with them. Even if they did, trying to call would only distract them. And with the sheer scale of this whole thing, Lee might call to check on Rupert later. The nice Rupert, as Kevin used to call him. But it had been a few years since Lee had last run into him randomly.
Otherwise, Lee couldn't really think of anyone she felt the need to make sure they were safe.
She really didn't have a large circle of friends, did she?
"No, I think that's everyone," Lee told Tarin with a shake of her head.
Seeing a movement out of the corner of her eye, Lee looked to see Tarin holding his hand out to her. Smiling, Lee took his hand, lacing her fingers with his and smiling even wider as she heard him speaking again.
"After the day we've had, that sounds good," Lee agreed with him. "Did you have any ideas for how to pass the time?"

That was everyone. They’d definitely exhausted Tarin’s list, and while he knew for a fact that Lee knew more people than he did she didn’t feel the need to call any of them.
A number of them were probably out working the problem, as X-Men, because of course they were. At the thought, Tarin couldn’t help but wonder what kind of antics Shin was getting up to. The man was unique in a number of ways, but one didn’t become an X-Man if they weren’t capable.
Tarin waited patiently for a moment and Lee reached out and took his hand, pretty much right where they’d left off before he’d thought about Rachel and Matt.
Did he have any ideas for how to pass the time?
Tarin couldn’t help but laugh a little and shake his head, ”You know I show a shocking lack of creativity when the Mets aren’t playing.” he said, grinning the whole time. He supposed he wasn’t all that creative when the Mets were on either…since they generally just watched the game.
”The movie was good though. Still have those board games…I think I saw a puzzle in the closet the other day.”
He glanced around the apartment, ”Haven’t had a guitar lesson in a while….” he offered.

Lee laughed with Tarin when he mentioned his 'lack of creativity' regarding things to do that weren't baseball. That did tend to be what they defaulted to when there was a game on. Though, unlike how she had felt in the spring, it really wasn't all that bad of a thing. It turned out that baseball wasn't so boring that she would end up falling asleep, despite how she joked about that for a couple of months after Tarin had moved in. But at the same time, it was quite easy to jump back into if they got interrupted or distracted.
Oh, and he was suggesting board games or a puzzle now? Lee smiled over at Tarin as she listened to him grasp for other ideas. "You know, I was thinking that we could spend the next couple hours looking for a good, but very easy recipe we could try on the weekend," Lee said with a shrug, the smile still on her face. "But I haven't done a puzzle in years."

Well, Tarin supposed, looking down and across the short distance between him and Lee, there was sure a lot of grinning going on for all of the completely innocuous things they were both suggesting.
”Those are all certainly things we could do.” Tarin said, ”And we did decide that you’d get to pick the next recipe we try…”
Lee went on to point out that it had been years since she’d done a puzzle and Tarin nodded, it had been years since he had done one too. Puzzles were an excellent way to pass the time, but Tarin had only been halfway serious when he’d suggested it ”The puzzle is a nice idea, but we’d have to clear the coffee table and what if we don’t finish it? We wouldn’t have anywhere to put anything…I’m starting to think maybe not, unless you really want to...”
He let that hang for a minute in the air and then gave Lee another smile, this one a bit warmer ”Orrr…we could scrap all of that and stick to our earlier plans for the day. We did end up home early after all.” It had been a stressful day, and the plans were still up for interpretation.

Tarin sure did seem to be stressing words like 'could do' and 'what if' for these to be things that he actually wanted to do.
But even without that, Lee would have been able to tell by the smile on Tarin's face and the way that he was looking at her that he was actually thinking about doing anything but what he had mentioned.
With the amount of energy that Lee had, combined with the fact that she had her siphoning off so she wasn't going to acquire even more, that 'anything' sounded even better than it normally would have.
"We made plans earlier about coming home early?" Lee asked, her voice sounding innocent while there was a playful look in her eyes. Then she bit her lip as she pretended to think. "I think you might have to remind me what those plans were."

Oh, Tarin definitely liked that look in Lee’s eyes as she played the innocent.
Yay, no puzzle. The recipe thing might have been fine, but there was no way Lee needed to spend hours on that. Not tonight. Not after all the danger and stress…
Then Lee bit her lip and said he’d need to remind her of their plans and Tarin shook his head and laughed a low laugh as he turned slightly on the couch and scooted that last little bit closer so that they were touching as they sat.
Still holding Lee’s hand, Tarin reached out slowly and well within Lee’s line of sight as he said, ”Are you sure you didn’t hit your head because I could have sworn you were the one who suggested it?” and his fingertips trailed across her cheek and into her hair as if to check for bumps.
They were very close now though and Tarin almost couldn’t help it when his hand moved back to cup the side of Lee’s face and he leaned in for a kiss.

Lee could tell, even before she had bit her lip, that Tarin liked how she was playing around. Though considering the fact that he had started it with his talk of board games and puzzles, Lee would have been surprised if he hadn't liked it.
But then Tarin was moving closer and lifting his hand to her face. As his fingers touched her cheek, Lee shivered as she looked up into Tarin's face. When had he gotten this close? Lee wondered as she shivered again feeling Tarin's fingers slip into her hair.
Had it been her idea to come home early? Lee didn't think it mattered now. It really only mattered what they were doing right now. And as Lee felt Tarin's hand come back to her cheek, she leaned into his touch as she looked into his eyes.
Then he was leaning even closer. Lee tipped her head up that little bit more to meet Tarin's lips as he kissed her, and her free hand lifted up, her wrist on his shoulder as her hand wrapped around the back of his neck.

It had to be a good thing that after everything that had happened that day, after all of the stress, and the danger, and the worry, that they were able to joke and play and kiss and just be together, right?
Everyone was safe and nothing that couldn’t be replaced had been hurt or damaged, and at least for now they were safe. The restless feeling from earlier was gone too because Tarin had something far better to focus on than what he could be doing if he wasn’t here.
Why would he be anywhere besides here?
Lee’s hand made its way around the back of his neck and Tarin leaned into the kiss a bit more, his hand on Lee’s check slipping back into her hair, the other releasing her hand so that he could wrap his arm around her and pull her closer. How that was gonna work he hadn’t really thought through with the way they were sitting, but they’d figure it out. After all, they’d already figured out so many more difficult things today.
