The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Null held a poker face. Svetlana denying his request was irritating. Sam felt he held the cards and that she was in no place to negotiate… except…
While Haven becoming a much easier place to fish for criminals would help his career, working with a vigilante to flush out criminals without all the red tape could work for his other motives. Mutant criminals he could pursue to test his nullification enchantments.
”That... That is a compelling offer. In fact, that’s a better arrangement.” Sam turned his head and thought about it some more. It held so much potential. He might be able to iterate faster on his designs if it panned out well. ”Yes. I’m interested. In exchange for casting a blind eye to your hypothetical extracurricular activities you help me find those who have buried themselves deep in the underworld.”
”Tell me, how do you see this arrangement working? We maintain an appearance of MRC and Haven cooperation, meeting here, as far as anyone knows we’re fighting over the latest young mutant to seek shelter here from the law or some community policing initiative. All the while we’re discussing less licit activities?” Svetlana could attempt to record any such meetings with it being her place of power, but MAD had worked in the cold war, it could work for Sam. Once they started, they either of them reporting the other allowed the other to bring their whole world down in flames.
She watched him consider her offer. She didn't really have a better one. If it came down to choosing between putting the Haven residents at risk, or going down for her mistakes, Sveta would choose the latter. A legal reckoning was long overdue anyway.
>>”That... That is a compelling offer. In fact, that’s a better arrangement. Yes. I’m interested. In exchange for casting a blind eye to your hypothetical extracurricular activities you help me find those who have buried themselves deep in the underworld.”
Sveta let out the breath she had been holding. Maybe, just maybe, this would all work out.

"Well, for a while, we have a number of excuses to meet" Sveta noted. God, it sounded like they were planning an affair. Gross. But at least now it was about logistics. "For one, you'll be looking into the gallery attack for a while. And I suppose I'll be seeing you about people who seek asylum here, as much as I dislike that." She was not going to make it any easier for him, that much was clear. "Otherwise... we can meet outside Haven. I am sure you know some spots that are... not observed." And she had safehouses too, but she was not about to reveal that.

Sam was rather pleased. Svetlana and him were coming to an accord and while he wouldn’t be getting his ideal deal, he was still getting something incredibly useful.
”You would be surprised how few places this city has where you aren’t being observed.” Sam mused. The city was blanketed in security cameras. One Police Plaza could see almost every square inch of street in the city and most commercial interiors had cameras. Hell, many residential spaces were now blanketed by cameras placed by either the building owner or the tenants. ”I know a few unwatched spaces, for any time meeting here won’t suffice.”
”Now that we have an agreement, I have to ask, how did the head of Haven get involved in vigilante justice? It’s not doing any more good than Haven could do but has nearly infinite risk.”

Sveta nodded. She knew most of the city was easily under surveillance, or could be if the police needed it. And whatever was not being watched by them was usually watched by someone else (even when powers or magic was not involved). But if they worked together, between the two of them they would find a way. She was in this deal now, for better or worse. Probably, in her experience, worse.

"Well, you should ask how a vigilante got to be the head of Haven, really" Sveta smirked at him. "I was on the X-team for a brief moment, you know. But we... uh, didn't really work together." Deal or not, she was not going to start giving out details about her power. "And you are right, working alone didn't do much good, so I ended up working for Haven. And getting promoted." She shrugged. It was less promotion, and more the other leaders slowly fading out around her. "But sometimes, I do get nostalgic about taking out some *ssholes abusing women, or the like. And sometimes, I am sipping champagne totally innocently, and the mob shows up. What can I do?"

Sam quietly said, ”Ah.” He had gotten the cart before the horse. He nodded and let Svetlana continue.
Svetlana had been a vigilante and at one time an X-man before she found herself in the nice office that the pair of them sat in at Haven. Sam could respect her for doing what she felt was necessary. After all, wasn’t Sam doing the same thing as he worked to perfect a spell to cure mutants.
”I can respect acting in self-defense. Just, maybe be a little more cautious with your extracurriculars. We don’t want some other detective finding out. They might be less… flexible than I am.” Sam, having reached an accord with Svetlana, rose from his chair. ”It has been a something tonight, Svetlana.” Sam walked toward the door and added, ”I imagine we’ll see each other again soon.”
