The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The day has come, the icemancer was supposed to watch Iris for the day. Something he figured both the seasoned parents desperately needed. Something Sam also happened to be pretty excited about. Not having any kids of his own (that he knew about) however still maintaining the memories and feelings he had for those that were fabricated and given to him during his little mind control stint he felt sad and not sure what to do with the memories and feelings he decided to do what he always did. Bottle ‘em up.
What he did do, something he found was a constructive outlet and seemed to help was dote on Iris whenever he saw her/him. The little bundle of curiosity seemed to enjoy being around Sam enough, he was well equipped with an assortment of faces and sound effects that seemed to get the kids attention and to top it off he’d always construct something out of ice, which on occasion has even gotten some giggles from the kid.
For however perfect Mirror and Becca’s kid, Iris was she had one flaw, something that Sam wasn’t the biggest fan of for reasons... whenever Sam held Iris (something that was a must whenever he saw her) he turned into a woman. Not just any woman one that Sam was impressed with. He was a babe.
Despite the effects Sam knew he needed to show Iris a good time and what better time than going to the park and maybe the zoo with a friend who also recently had a kid. Catching up and having the kids play was part of being a parent/babysitter right?
So when Sam and little Iris arrived at the park the icemancer had a feeling Mike wouldn’t recognize him. Because he wasn’t who he normally was, he was a woman with a baby boy and an eyepatch. ”Hey Dude. Cute kid. Sure it’s yours?” she said chuckling while not introducing herself. It was funnier this way. There might have been a slight chill in the air as a hint.
When days were slow at BlacTac, Ranger wasn’t content to just sit around. There was always something he could be doing, something he could work on. That had been the way he always was at the office. If he wasn’t managing, he was getting his hands dirty
Having a kid changes things. Since Emma was born, Ranger’s whole life had shifted. He started by leaving BlacTac’s Bravo team exclusively to Jude. No more looking over his shoulder. Jude could do what he felt was best. Hell, Jude had run the whole show himself multiple times at this point. For Alpha team, Ranger still decided what jobs to take, but Ranger participated less and allowed the team to manage their own training. Ranger was always involved for the mission brief and debrief but rarely worked on the planning anymore.
All told, this freed up much more time for Ranger to be with his daughter. Gave him time to do things like, take her to the park in the middle of the day. It seemed Sam had both heard about Ranger having a kid, likely from Evelyn, and was often watching one himself. Sam had reached out about them meeting up in the park while they watched the kids.
Ranger was sitting on a park bench bouncing the kid on his knee when a woman approached and commented on how cute Emma was.
”She is, thanks.” Ranger said as he looked to the woman. Who was wearing an eyepatch. Ranger cocked his head to the side a little as cold air moved in. Eyepatch and cold, that’s what he was expecting from Sam, not a good looking woman. With a kid… ”Uhm… Sam?”

”Don’t act like this is the weirdest thing you ever dealt with.” Sam said smirking as she sat down next to Ranger ending his control on the air around them. Iris waved her hands enthusiastically as Sam waved some fingers in front of the gender shifted baby. ”Mike, this is Iris. Iris, this is Mike and... who might you be?” Sam asked going full baby speak by changing his tone and making a face so she seemed less scary with the eyepatch.
”How’s dad doing?” he asked looking up to Ranger. She giving you guys enough time to get some sleep?”[/color] Sam shifted uncomfortably it was always weird sitting down for the first time after a gender shift.
The wind blew and Sam’s hair flew into his face and he sighed grabbing a hair tie to tame the new mane of hair that grew while shifted. If he was in this form more permeant he would have cut it short but it was only while he was holding Iris so if anything it wasn’t worth the effort. ”How’s the mom?” she asked.
Iris moved and started to flail his arms. Sam responded with an ice rabbit that burst into life before them. It was of course made of snow. The baby immediately fixed on it as it started to hop around in front of them.
Ranger gave a soft chuckle and turned one hand up to conceded the point. Sam showing up as a woman was not the weirdest thing Ranger had had to deal with. Not by a long shot. Ranger was just happy for once it was someone other than him that had been turned into a woman.
”Got me there.”
Sam introduced the kid as Iris. Ranger waved his fingers at Iris before introducing his own kid. ”This is Emma.” Ranger looked at Emma who had decided her hand might be tasty. ”Can y’ wave at Sam an’ Iris?” Emma looked at Ranger with her big hazel eyes before looking at Sam and Iris. She waved her elbow and wiggled her thumb, not removing her fingers from her mouth.
”Dad’s doin’ good.” Ranger was still getting used to being called a dad. ”She’s given’ us almost enough sleep, but I was in the army. Give me five minutes an’ I’ll have a 5 minute power sleep.”
”Mom’s doin’ well. I’ve been able t’ scale back my work t’ take more care of Emma. Frees her up t’ keep her life rollin’, with a few significant changes.”
Ranger smiled at Iris watching the snow rabbit and turned Emma so she could watch it too. After a few seconds she started making ‘gimme’ hands while leaning toward it. ”So how’d y’ end up babysittin’ Iris? Who’d let you watch their kid. Y’r still half one y’rself. Ranger gestured to Iris before he moved his hand close to her to waggle his fingers. ”An’ what’s with the new look?”

”Believe the kids call it a bro nap now, still the same. Just you know, they don’t have to worry about getting shot at when you close your eyes.” Sam said glad she was able to afford more sleep now than when he was younger, even if his mind didn’t allow it.
”Two kids now and all.” Sam said returning fire on the age comment, ”and hey, I’m back to being over thirty. Almost a fully grown man. Well not at the moment.” Sam laughed.
Iris used one hand and reached out to the bunny and the icemancer noticed the kids expressions and made the rabbit hop a little closer then stand on it’s hind legs to investigate them all. ”Volunteered for the position.” she said bouncing Iris a bit on her knee as she explained.
”Gawain and Becca’s kid. Unlike us, they need some sleep and time to catch up on them. Had two kids so I know a thing or two. All that experience was going to waste and I’m also trying to be the kids favorite.” he said smirking. ”Isn’t that right Iris?” he said hefting her into the air then lower to the ground so he could get a closer look at the rabbit. ”Careful he’s cold.” Sam warned as Iris grabbed the ear then let go when it felt the cold.
”What, you got a problem with how I look now? I’m a babe.” she said lifting Iris back up and placing her on her knee again. The rabbit hopped around a bit more, ”Part of their powers. Kinda got some from Gawain. Don’t know how to explain the rest. It’s a twenty-four-hour thing. Gets a different power and look and then effects whoever is holding ‘em.” he said offering.
”Oh, well. The live fire an’ aimless mortars overhead’re what make it all worthwhile. That an’ this one.” Ranger did live for the excitement once. Hell, he still yearned for the next time he could jump from an airplane for a HALO jump to a hostile target… but when he looked at his kid he didn’t feel the drive to seek it out anymore. Only the resolve that he would do it and more, rain all the fury he could muster on anyone who hurt his kid. Bring all his old skills to bare only without any rules of engagement.
”Thirty-somethin’ goin’ on thirteen. One day y’ll be an adult.” Ranger laughed, ”Well, bein’ momentarily not almost a man happens t’ the best of us.”
Gawain and Becca. The names were familiar but Ranger had never met them. ”I don’ think i’ve had the pleasure uh meetin’ them. I think I was at a party with ‘em once. I got… so drunk that night though. Worked out in the end I’d say though.” Ranger gestured to Emma with his head.
”Hey, I never said I had a problem. Y’re much better lookin’ now than normal.”
Sam explained that Iris had a power that changed every 24 hours. Affected whomever held them. Which meant the current power was to make people women? No, swapping sexs period made more sense. Then Sam asked if Ranger wanted to hold her hand. Ranger raised an eyebrow at that.
It was a convenient explanation for why Sam was a woman, but Ranger had hardly seen a kid that young with a manifested power.
”Sure.” Ranger said, his face conveying his doubt. Ranger reached out and gently took Iris’ hand with a couple fingers and thumb. He was about to greet the kid when it happened.
”Y’ sack! I though y’ were bluffin’!” Ranger said after the surprise had worn off. He looked at his hands, which were now much smaller, and then used one to feel his now long and blonde hair. ”I guess it serves me right f’r not believin’ y’.” How… How? Ranger couldn’t help but wonder how he ended up a woman so often.

”One day.” Sam smirked, hoping that wasn’t the case. She was thirty something and went to late teens and that wasn’t a picnic. At least he got Cora out of the situation. He just hoped that was the only surprise he got out of it. Knowing him and his younger self however....
”Happens to the best of us.” she said chuckling, recalling how he first got his son in the future shared dream everyone had and then when he was being controlled by Amanda. Sam was happy for the time he shared with them but had to remind himself constantly that that wasn’t real. It was all fabricated.
”No, why would I bluff? This ain’t a card game and you don’t have any money to lose. You got a kid now, and have to shop for a new wardrobe... for an hour.” Sam said laughing and standing up with Iris. Who let go of Hunter’s finger when he started to rise. ”Whose a chaotic little bundle of joy?” Sam asked as he hefted Iris over his head again and walked closer to the rabbit of ice.
Crouching low she placed Iris’s feet on the ground. The rabbit hopped back over and waited till Iris reached out for it again. ”Eve tell you about her new pet? Seems she ran into some of those magic users. Got a Guinea pig the size of my St. Brenard.” she was more into asking questions than sharing information. Sam found out about it a few weeks after she had ‘found’ it.
Ranger sighed. ”I cain’t even say this is the firs’ time.” Ranger shook her head and laughed at herself for putting herself in the situation. ”Only an hour? Tha’s better than the other times. An’ probably not much need t’ shop f’r clothes… Unless y’ plan on us babysittin’ together in the future.`` Ranger looked at Iris. ”Jus’ t’ be prepared.”
To Emma Ranger asked, ”Wanna see the bunny?” Then chuckled at the ki’ds confused face. Dad was gone, there as some woman holding her now. ”Hey Emma. It’s still Dad. I’m jus’ gunna look more like Mom f’r an hour.” Good news, was that Emma seemed to be taking it okay. More confusion on her face but no crying.
”Eve hasn’t told me about a new pet. An’ wait… Y’r tellin’ me the magic stuff is legit? Not jus’ some weird mutants, actual honest t’ God magic?” Ranger had heard stories of magic but wrote it off as just ‘mutant magic.’
Ranger stood up to take Emma closer to the snow bunny. One step and she had to stop herself. Her foot almost came clean out of her boot. ”Okay. That might be a problem.” She laughed as she shook the boot and stepped back fully into it.

”With Iris I think a dress or a robe might be your best bet. You should see her on satyr days.” he said cracking up. Last time it was on a Saturday. Satyrday Saturday. Ranger might have not gotten the joke but it didn’t matter. ”Don’t mind catching up every once in a while, nice to hear back on how Eve’s doing outside of the mansion too.”
”Yep.” th eice bunny shifted from Iris to look at Emma. The more they were around the rabbit the more it became defined. Enough for a little movement around the nose to be seen. The movement was mostly from Sam’s memory of what rabbits did in the wild when they were investigating things.
”Far as I can tell.” Sam said shrugging. ”Real, non-Vegas magic.” he waited a moment then decided Ranger was someone he could trust, the man did introduce him to a pit BBQ.
”Yeah, already had a run in with the less friendly ones.” he said, ”They kidnapped one of our students. Almost a had a diplomatic crisis on our hands.” thankfully the problem was resolved and the Princess was returned safely.
”Starting to raise some eyebrows. Hoping it won’t be a problem.” he said. Looking back to what Ranger was talking about he smirked and pointed to her own shoes made of ice. ”One thing that didn’t stick during the change.”
Did Sam just say Satyr days? Those half man half beast things. Though, Sam had some weird yankee accent so there was no telling what he was saying. Maybe he was just saying Saturday.
”Catchin’ up sounds good. Though if I have a dress hangin’ in the closet, Noel might have a few questions.” Ranger laughed. ”An’ Evelyn’s doin’ well. Practically runnin’ the place now, the little paperwork wizard.”
Real, non-Vegas magic. If it wasn’t Sam telling him, Ranger wasn’t sure he’d believe it. Even from someone like Sam it was hard to believe. Mutations made sense, there was some biological process that caused the wildness and downstream biological changes that resulted in powers. Magic was just, finger-waving and speaking gibberish to blast something or float a quill around. It all sounded too Perry Hotter. If magic was real, then Armadillo House must be real. It only made sense.
”Kidnapped a student? So the magic users are a threat?” Ranger’s mind immediately moved to trying to assess the level of the threat and how to deal with them. ”What’re they capable of?”
”We cain’t all just make shoes on the fly that fit.” Ranger took another step before kicking off the boots and using her toes while balancing on alternating legs to remove her socks. Barefoot it was.

”I don’t need to know what you guys do, but make sure V doesn’t get a hold of anything that might put her at risk.” they talked briefly when they first met about what kind of place Eve was working for. Sam knew enough not to ask too many questions. One that would make him suspicious and two he already had enough on his plate to deal with. As long as the Eve still had the option to be a kid Sam was alright with her doing as much paperwork as she wanted.
”She does enough of mine at the school as well. Pretty sure she could list ever student in that place.” she said always more than happy to hand off any paperwork. Maybe he needed another assistant so Eve had more opportunities to do other things than paperwork?
”And it’s healthy to have questions. Doubt you’ll be wearing it too often. Unless you plan on scheduling for gender swap days.” she said feeling that it was common enough. Those were the days she felt she was called. Maybe Gawain/Maya and Becca/Beck found it funny?
The rabbit put a paw on Ranger’s knee trying to get a little closer to Emma. The ears flicked for an added touch of movement. ”Whatever you think magic users are capable of?” Sam said not really sure, ”I only ran into a few of them. Most of them had some kind of medium. Saw some stones and gems, a crystal and then a wand.” she said recalling.
”Some of them chanted, they even had a mutant or two in the mix. Knocked me pretty good with some electricity.” she didn’t really open up about her weaknesses but everyone should know it was hard to think while you were getting shocked.
”They had enough connections to set up shop in a construction zone. Place was pretty empty, which was good. Carrick’s not really suited for fights or hostage situations.” he wasn’t suited for a lot of things but it was hard to tell the kid anything when he was so worked up.
”Adding them to the Ninja’s that suddenly took an interest in my girlfriend, I’d say the only thing we are missing is a dragon. Pretty sure I’d win the team’s ‘Bingo’ game.” she said with a loud sigh. ”Why I enjoy the time I get watching this little one.” Sam said turning Iris quickly in a spin then tossing her in the air a bit which was received as always with a bunch of giggles.
”What kind uh business y’ think I run? We’re all private security an’ defense contracts. Anythin’ non-permissive would certainly only go across my desk. If we did that work, which we don’t.” Ranger shook his her head and added, ”Jus’ inventory, federal forms, state forms, city forms… Seriously, this place is crazy with how many forms y’ need t’ run a business with guns an’ explosives. I did have her look int’ what I need t’ build a helipad on the roof.”
”Look. I have never planned f’r a gender swap day, but with the frequency it seems t’ happen maybe I should. This suddenly bein’ someone else is tirin’.” Not that having Iris’ power scheduled would change what the universe would throw at Ranger. ”... An it ain’t like I could jus’ say I’d avoid touchin’ Iris. I’m a shit magnet. Odds are somethin’ll come ‘round where I have t’ help y’ plan keep away from somethin’ or catch the pair of yall from fallin’ with a sudden change in gravity.” Ranger sighed. ”It just makes sense t’ keep a change of clothes in the car f’r this. That’ll be an odd conversation with Noel.”
Sam gave the limited intel he had on the magic users. Magic users? Wizards, magicians, mages, aggressive finger wigglers? Whatever they should be called, it sounded like they could bring some serious heat based on Sam’s mentioning being hit by electricity.
”Carrick’s… he’s… Wait, what’s he doin’ involved in this?” The whole mess was escalating quickly. First wacky, wavey, spellcasting armed magic men… then Carrick, and now ninja. Ranger shook his head. "Makes sense. I'd want somethin' relaxin' too with all that happenin'. My bein’ with Emma feels like a long overdue rest for me."
Ranger looked at Emma who looked back at Ranger. The kids was still looking at Ranger with suspicion but seemed chill with her. ”An’ while restin’ is nice… How big of a threat d’ y’ think these Perry Hotter wannabees are?” Ranger wasn’t about to let someone keep his daughter from having the best life she could provide for her.

”Not sure if you want my answer.” Sam said squinting a bit at the question. He saw the main building and anything with defense contracts in Sam’s past usually led to something else a little more dangerous. He too held contracts. ”Too bad the crime organizations in the city don’t have to worry about those.” she chuckled, ”I’m pretty sure she picks up more than she says. Kid can already fly the jet. She saw me do it once. Don’t let her fly the helicopter.” he wasn’t joking Eve would totally try to.
”Hey man,” Sam corrected himself, ”Hey woman, she’s got a kid with ya and you’re a shit magnet. I’m sure worse questions will be asked.” Sam didn’t like dresses or skirts. They didn’t support where they needed to and they got caught on everything. Baggy clothes from his usual self was better off.
The topic of Carrick continued, ”You know the winged kid too?” he asked. Small world. ”He was the one that tracked the Princess and her kidnappers down while we were getting hit with the magic.” she said bouncing a little for Iris. It seemed to bring even more joy as he tried to reach out for the rabbit again.
”It was enough to keep me and another teammate busy for a bit. We didn’t know what the heck we were dealing with, too many to take them all out at once.” she said honestly recounting how complicated the situation got when there was that many unknowns. ”The numbers alone raised some questions. They seemed pretty organized.” Sam said the coordination with their attacks seemed too practiced.
”Heard a about a couple officers asking about them as well. Thought they were like us. They aren’t.”
”Maybe that’s why they do crime. Goin’ legit has too much paperwork. If I didn’t have people t’ do most of it f’r me who knows if I’d keep on the straight an’ narrow. I was a vigilante once. Not long ago from my perspective.” The deaging issue complicated her own personal timeline. ”An’ I’d have t’ buy a helimonster first. I let Jude in on bigger financial decisions. He wants me t’ better justify why we should buy all the fancy toys. His side of the house keeps the lights on so best I listen t’ him from time t’ time.”
The correction Sam made from calling Ranger ‘Man, to calling her ‘Woman’ made her laugh. It was an odd situation they were in. At least this time Ranger wasn’t the only man who suddenly found themself a woman. CS was there to keep her in strange company. ”Y’ got a point. If nothin’ else I should just keep a woman bug out bag on hand.”
”Yeah. I know the kid.” Ranger did not want to disclose how he knew the kid. At no point had Ranger disclosed to his barbeque buddy that he worked for SUPER. ”Met him a while back in central park. Him an’ his girl. The one who likes t’ point out she’s a princess. ” Something Ranger couldn’t care less about.
Turned out the princess was kidnapped and Carrick tracked her down. Good on the kid. If he was involved with the spellcasters then there might be some files he could check out at SUPER. The interesting thing was that the spellcasters were able to keep Sam and his team busy. Ranger had never seen Sam go all out or really fight at all, but he’d read about Sam’s power and heard stories. That power was no joke. Ranger certainly wouldn’t want to square off against Sam in a fair fight.
”Sounds like they’re gonna be trouble.” Ranger lifted Emma up into the air and then lowered her quickly before raising her up again. Making a ”Wooo~” as she did it. ”What’s bein’ done about ‘em?… Woooo~... X-Men, LEOs? Any plan? Woooo~.”

The icemancer chose not to say anything about Jude, he was pretty sure it was the same Jude who bailed on one of his ‘survival’ training sessions. Technically he survived but he just walked to the nearest town and left. Sam smirked, ”fancy toys get you the jobs.” Sam said summing up, ”Yeah we can do an air drop! We got a helicopter. Just sounds better than hiring a company to hire another company.” he chuckled deepening his voice so it sounded more like his normal voice, ”Yeah, scheduling conflict. Flight plan will be through Omega airs.”
Iris looked to her when she deepened her voice and raised his eyebrows. ”Yeah, be surprised by that.” he bounced a bit then turned Iris back to the rabbit who might have gotten larger in size to garner more attention for the kids. It seemed it was starting to get attention from people walking by.
”I got a bug out bag for everything.” Sam said partially lying. More like he had a places that stored the bug out bags for everything. The safe houses were there for a reason. ”With the stuff we deal with? Makes sense.”
The eye patched woman scoffed at mention of Carrick’s girlfriend. One his younger self might have been employed by. It was a grey area he didn’t want to dive into. She was a teacher at the mansion after all. ”Hate dealing with royals. All the same.” she said shaking her head, ”Get them to stop shooting at us, we are not amused, why do they want to talk to me?” her voice might have gotten a little mocky.
”He’s a good kid. Pretty sure he steals my steaks. Never shows up to class either. I got him booked for the next few years at my bar on St. Patrick’s day. The kid puts on a show.” Sam said, before shrugging, ”We deal with trouble all the time! Don’t we?” hefting Iris and putting her on the rabbit he let her sit for a second as the ears flicked back and forth.
”Great question, lot of humming and hawing apparently.” she said. It wasn’t an X-men issue it was more of a police and public issue. The situation was on Sam’s opinion too new to deal with. The team was unfortunately more reactionary than anything. ”Still trying to figure it out. Long as they don’t use their power to hurt anyone I don’t really see a problem.”
