Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

MRO is an intermediate to advanced writing level original character, original plot X-Men RPG. We've been open and active since October of 2005. You can play as a mutant, human, or Adapted— one of the rare humans who nullify mutant powers by their very existence. Goodies, baddies, and neutrals are all welcome.

Magic and Mystics
After the events of the 2020 Harvest Moon and the following Winter Solstice, magic has started manifesting in the MROvere! With the efforts of the Welldrinker Cult, people are being converted into Mystics, a species of people genetically disposed to be great conduits for magical energy.

The Welldrinker Cult
A shadowy group is gaining power, drawing in people who are curious, vulnerable, or malicious, and turning them into Mystics. They are recruiting people into their ranks to spread the influence of magic in the world, but for what end goal?

Adapteds
What if the human race began to adapt to the mutant threat? What if the human race changed ever so subtly... without the x-gene.

Atlanteans
The lost city of Atlantis has been found! Refugees from this undersea mutant dystopia have started to filter in to New York as citizens and businessfolk. You may make one as a player character of run into one on the street.

Hi MRO!

After talking with members, we're opening Mystics for character applications!

Now with this new character type, there are a few rules we'd like to clarify.

You can use one of your seven character slots for a Mystic, but we're also giving players a Free Mystic Slot. This means players can currently have seven characters, one free human (that can't become a mutant OR mystic), and one free mystic.
Currently, the only way to become a Mystic is by joining The Welldrinker Cult and "imbibing" from their fountains of mystic energy. There are many reasons a character would join the Cult, but until this plot ends, Mystics are not naturally occurring in the world.
You can make a free mystic whenever you want if you let us know it's your free mystic. Otherwise, additional mystics follow the same 2 week rule for new characters.
PLOT DEVICE WARNING: The Elder Supreme of the Cult has the ability to erase X-Genes. A Mutant with their X-Gene removed CAN be turned into a Mystic. (For people who wanted one without making a new character.) Please talk to mods if you want to plan on this option.

With a fourth playable species, we've gone ahead and updated the apps under Rules & Character Applications. There are specific apps for Mutants, Adapteds, Mystics, and Humans. The power sections for all apps are different now (and non-existent for humans,) and we added some depth to the morality section by asking your character's feelings on the other three species on the Site.

If you have questions about building your Mystic or questions about the updated apps, feel free to ask in the appropriate Discord channels! You're also welcome to add the updated morality section to your apps for kicks and giggles if you want.
