MutationsMutation description: Night invisiblity; due to prolonged exposure to the sun, Garth needs close to near darkness to become invisible now. During the daylight hours, he is nearly always visible and needs a room without windows in order to disappear. However, night time is still his sanctuary. In addition to making himself invisible, Garth's ability extends to the clothing covering him as a well as any small objects that he might be holding. However, the size of the object can only be about the size of a loaf of bread.
Strengths: Although most normal people cannot see at night, he is invisible to low light cameras and lens as well as mutations that allow people to see at night.
Weaknesses: He is still physically there. He can be struck, run-in to, punched, kicked, shot, etc. In addition, any heat sensors will be able to detect him. Although he is soft footed, Garth can also be heard by individuals with sensitive ears and smelt with good noses.
Secondary mutation description: Shadow teleportation, if Garth is ever completely encompassed by darkness, he is able to 'jump' to another shadow that is his size. He is able to 'see' possible locations, but it is not finely tuned, causing him to make mistakes if he cannot see the target or has not been there before. Also, he can construct a simple, black knife out while in the dark. The knife disappears soon after it is hit by any light.
Strengths: He has an excellent form of travel at night and can feel if something big enough is moving through a shadow. His weapon is perfect for not leaving any evidence behind.
Weaknesses: Most common flashlights and streetlamps destroy his ability. Daylight means a car or the bus for travel. His weapon is not something to take into a fight in the light.
Fighting StyleExplanation: Stealth attacks; given his abilities, they favor him especially at night
Pros for fighting style: Takes most victims by surprise with little to no resistance
Cons for fighting style: Little to no defense if attacked himself; not very proficient at hand to hand combat

History Of Your CharacterGarth has been a mutant since birth. Born with a mild case of albinism, he always seen as different by his peers. Although he was not allowed to compete in many day time activities, Garth excelled at hide and seek during the night. Sometimes, the people searching for him would walk right past his hiding spot without noticing him. This was due to his developing mutant, but he did not know it at the time. Garth's worse problems were at home. His father enjoyed beating both him and his mother constantly. Garth learned to hide well on these nights. It was here that he discovered that if he hid deep enough in the darkness, his body would turn invisible. Excited about his discovery, Garth revealed his secret to his mother. She was horrified at the sight!
It did not take long for his father to beat it out of his mother. During the next night, Garth's father attempted to kill him in a drunken rage. However, Garth was able to escape into the night, but not before receiving only a slice across his left cheek. He escaped his house and disappeared into the night. It took until the next morning for the authorities to locate the run away. After which, he was removed from his family and placed in the foster care system.
This started Garth's new life of moving from family to family. No place feeling anything like a home. Very early on, Garth discovered not to tell his new families about his mutation. That was the easiest way to get shipped off to another family. However, most families eventually learned that he was invisible in the dark (mostly when they would wake him for school). At the age of 16, Garth snicked out of the house to attend a party he had overheard from some fellow students. However, the cops busted the party. Garth ran for it but was tackled by a large sheriff. Luckily for the mutant, they landed in darkness. Trying desperately to escape, the young mutant thought how much he wanted to be back in his room, then suddenly, he was there!
Garth started to develop his new found power and find the secrets about it in the safety of the night. Soon, he discovered he could also produce a knife-like object that would disappear when exposed to light. When he turned 18, Garth left the foster system and began to look for others with unique abilities. He learned about other mutants and how they were using their powers to make a name for themselves. Garth liked that idea. With no place to go and no money, Shade began to steal from banks as a means of survival. He would simply teleport in to the dark vault after hours and steal the money he would need then disappear into the night.
That is when he first killed someone. A night secruity guard was checking inside the vault when Garth appeared. Reacting instinctively out of fear, the young mutant drove a blade through the poor old man's neck. It was a pretty gruesome sight, and the teenager was morally broken for several days. However when he came out of his depression, he had found a new profession: contrtact killing.
It took several monthes to find a place of hire, but he stumbled upon one when he saw an attack in an alley. Garth killed both the assasin and target before contracting the company about their fallen employee. He took the dead man's spot and worked for nearly a year before the company was invaded by the FBI. Garth was the only one who escaped. It is always nice to be a mutant.
(Insert time at Mutant Revolution)
Over the past few years, Garth has learned that corporate secrets and sabotage pay a lot more than dead bodies, as well as blackmail. In addition, the police have a much harder time of finding out about his crimes. Due to a recent promotion, Garth is now returning to New York.

It was 11:53. At least that is what the clock at the local Stop & Go read as Garth paid for his can of Mountain Dew at the corner. The young mutant muttered a thanks as the cashier gave him his change back before grabbing the soda can and exiting the store. It was dark out, very dark. The new moon made sure of that and the polluted air from the city made the tiny stars invisible. It was the perfect atmosphere for Garth. The cool night air bit at his neck, causing the teenager to pull the hood on his hoodie up over his head. His bright blue eyes disappeared into darkness as a smirk formed on his lips. He sure did love the night. It was freeing to him. In the world of darkness, Garth could do whatever he wanted. No one could see him, no one could tell him what to do. He did as he pleased.
Popping open the soda can, Garth took a swig of the cool yellow liquid before moving along the brightly lit storefront. Making it to the edge of the building as well as the end of the light, the mutant stepped into the blackness and was swallowed up instantly. To anyone watching, it would have appeared he had just vanished. However, he was still there, just invisible to the human eye. Taking an invisible drink from his Mountain Dew, Garth reached out with his mind searching for all possible spots that he could move to, and in the darkness of night, there were lots. The street lit up like it was daytime to him. He could see every spot occupied by a lamp post or mailbox. He could feel exactly where the harsh light destroyed his sanctuary of darkness. Grabbing hold on a spot across the street, Garth felt his feet leave the ground. Then came the crazy swirling of chaos. It was weird. Everything appeared the wrong way: up was down, down was up, inside was out. Suddenly, Garth's feet hit solid matter, but his head was still spinning. He dropped his soda as he reached for his head. It hit the ground with a thud!, throwing soda onto his pants.
"Gosh-dang-it!" Garth said to no one as he realized what had happened. He was becoming accustomed to the sensation, but it still was disorienting to him. Garth decided that it would be better if he walked the rest of the way to the bank.
After a couple of blocks, the invisible mutant found his target for the night. The Bank of America neon sign shown above a large building. The shadow mutant had snuck in here several times before. This would probably be his last. He never liked to get too familiar with a bank just in case they ever noticed the small amounts of cash he took every night. Pressing against the wall that he knew was closest to the safe, Garth let his feel of the dark stretch out. He found the room he was searching for quickly and jumped without a second thought.
As soon as Garth's feet touch the hard steel floor of the vault, he knew something was wrong. There was a trance of light in the vault. And there was never light in the vaults. However, the familiar feeling of nausea caused him to cough slightly. Suddenly, there were lights everywhere. The entire room lit up with an overdecorated Christmas tree. Garth shielded his sensitive eyes from the blinding lights as he heard a voice speak.
"Gotcha!" The voice was from someone ancient and hoarse. The mutant tried to make out the figure, but his eyes were not adjusting fast enough. Suddenly, a pair of hands were on him. The teenage mutant struggled against them, pushing back with all his strength.
"Get off me!" Garth yelled as the stranger's hands grabbed at his hoodie and dragged him towards the ground. He reached into the pocket of his jacket. And suddenly, there was a knife in the mutant's hand. He slashed at the foreign hands, but his knife struck something hard. The hands released as the stranger fell to the floor. Garth could hear gargling noises as his eyes finally focused onto a bloody scene. The hands and voice had belonged to an elderly man, probably in his late 60's. The man wore the uniform of a security guard which was now stained with blood. The cause? Garth's knife had lodged itself in the guard's neck, severing the elderly man's jugular vein. He watched as the black object disappeared into smoke. Suddenly, the teenager realized there were tears in his eyes. He reached down and pressed his hands against the wound to slow the bleeding.
"Help! Someone help!!" Garth yelled out. His voice echoed through the still vault and out into the empty foyer.
"Help, please!" Garth yelled again as he pressed harder against the bloody neck wound. Tears were flowing free down his face now. The wounded man's breath came in sharp, raspy breaths. The guard's hands were pressed weakly against Garth's own hands.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Garth said over and over looking to the dying man's eyes as the light fading away. Then the breathing stopped and the hands fell away, lifeless.
"No, no, no!" Garth said as he grabbed at the man's wound, willing the blood to return to the body. But it was no use. The man was dead.
Garth finally pulled himself away from the bloody man and pressed himself against the hard wall of the vault. His hands were soaked, his jeans and hoodie soaked as well. His eyes stung from crying, but he did not dare rub them, afraid he might cover himself in more blood. He simply sat there, his breath coming in gasps. The blood on his hands dripped slowly off, coagulating in a pool on the granite floor. Garth did not what to do. What could he do? He had just killed a guy. What was going to happen to him? The reality of the situation only led him to one possibility. He was going to go to jail. He might even be put on death row.
That idea struck Garth right in the heart. Suddenly, he was up and outside before he even knew what he had teleported out of there. He had to get rid of all this blood. Although he was invisible, Garth could feel it stuck to his hands and knees like paint. Dark red paint. Suddenly, an idea hit him. The park. It had a swimming pool. He could use that to remove the blood. Then with another jump, Garth disappeared into the night.
