The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Yeaaah, Juniper was having one of those right now.
She stood outside her neighbors door for a disconcertingly long time considering her sweater was moving about on it's own and occasionally meowing, before panicking and heading in to her own apartment. See, she'd gotten a new thing. A new, fluffy, meow-y type thing, and while she was elated at the one she had brought home for herself, she was a little worried about the one she'd brought home for... um... someone else.
Scrounging up some courage and adjusting her wriggling surprises, she hopped on over into her neighbors space unannounced just like always. She wondered how long it would take him to notice, or if her little hidden stowaways would given themselves away too quickly.
"Hey, X! What's up?"
Look innocent, Juniper. Innocent as the day you were born. Ignore the wriggling sweater!
Xavier was hitting his punching bag just as Juniper popped in unannounced, you know, like she always did. He didn't look away as he finished another combo, shifting around the bag and stepping into his punches as he adjusted his position to work new angles and improve force output.
He punched a few more times before wiping his gloved hand on his sweaty forehead, looking around for his shirt. He'd taken it off so'd not to overheat. He had a tendency to bring up the temp in here when ever he worked out.
"Hey Juni!" He said as he reached for his water, taking a drink as he gathered up his tank top and threw it on. After a second glance he realized something was up. She had that look on her face. It was the 'I did something' look. Uh oh.
There was a little mew from her sweater. "Juni... You're meowing. Why are you meowing?" He stepped closer, leaning in with a suspicious look on his face. Had... she gotten a new cat? She was coming over to show it to him? He smiled a bit. This was great! Clyde would have some company! Maybe he wouldn't sneak over and steal his bags of chips like he did these days... Well, that was if he believed it was him and not just Juni getting hungry and not wanting to go grocery shopping.
@#$%! He was onto her already because of the damn cats and their constant Marco polo game going on in her sweater.
Slowly, without breaking eye contact or uttering a word, she reached up and pulled the hood of her sweater up. It was a Korean make, instead of one of the stolen articles from past flings.
It had little purple cat ears on top.
She managed a painfully completely neutral expression, even with Xavier leaning in with that look on his face, or the fact that little kitten claws were playing tic tac toe on her skin.
Slowly, she reached up into her sweater and fished around for the short hair, and then gently withdrew the gray kitten from the depths of her sweater.
He was tiny with black-tipped ears and a while tipped tail. Big ole blue eyes sparkled and caught the sunlight. The kitten blinked into the face of the large blonde as Juniper finally broke out in a cheek splitting grin.
"His name is Blueberry."
She offered the tiny cat for X to take if he wanted, very aware of the little bundle of fluff that was currently tucked against her tailbone.
"I found him at the school with a group of kittens looking for a home. Figured maybe he can chase Clyde around and get him to lose weight."
Also, she totally hadn't named him after her other friend that visited often, nope. She'd deny it till her dying breath.
Xavier's eyes went all twinkly as the kitten was produced from the sweater. He was already reaching out before she even offered, and the giant of a young man took the kitten up greedily in his hands, careful to give the gentlest cuddles.
The little creature mewed as he pet away, but started purring after a moment. "Awww, little blueberry! Clyde's gonna be jealous! Hah! You even dressed thematically. That's awesome!" He giggled as the little creature looked up at him cautiously before poking its nose about his face as he held it up to his features.
"It's adorable, Juni! A whole group of them, huh? I hope they all found homes!" He'd saved enough cats from trees to prove that he loved him some felines. He wasn't the kind of person who insisted he was a dog or cat person, either. He loved all furry friends equally. And lizards. And spiders. Anything really. They were all great.
He cuddled the little kitty a little more before tilting his head as he heard... another... meow? Another one? Ventriliquist kitty?
No... That definiely came from her. "...Juni... What did you do?" The little kitten looked over as well; two expectant pairs of eyes were staring at her, now.
"I think so! There were only two left when I got there!"
She watched the cuddlefest with only slight jealously and a healthy dose of excitement. If he thought one was great, just wait until-
"Mew!"
GAh, Needles in the back flesh! @#$%!!
She didn't try to draw the second intro out at all, in fact, she hurried to get the little fellow out from her sweater so she could show him.
"Well, ya see..."
A little orange striped fluffy ball appeared in her hands, blinking blue eyes around curiously as it adjusted to the sudden light and new smells. "I just couldn't resist bringing this one home as well! Look, she even has a little cowlick like you do!"
Indeed, nestled between copper ears was the most adorable orange twist of fur ever to be seen.
"Oh-oh! And the best part-!"
She balanced the cat in one hand and dug into the pocket of her sweater with the other. Out came a little themed cape she'd made for the kitten. One that matched a certain up and coming hero's cape almost perfectly. Aside from horrendous sewing lines, it wasn't a bad attempt.
She slipped the little cape on over the kittens head and re-help her out toward Xavier.
"Ta-daaaaa~!"
Heck, it was a win win in her book. If he didn't want her she'd just keep the kitten herself. Double the fun!
He stared at her with a sort of dumbstruck expression as she produced a little orange fall of fluff. Slowly his eyes widened. "You didn't."
She presended the little kitten, "You did." and then stated that it had a cowlick like him. He paused and felt his head with the non kitten holding hand. "I have a cowlick?"
He finished patting his hair, and then stared at the little blue eyes on the kitty before him, petting the little one called blueberry by instinct as he contemplated. Was he ready for a kitten right now?
He'd never lived alone before. Gosh! He didn't have a litter box, or a second litter box, because you are supposed to have two! He'd need food... He'd neet to catify! Holy crap, he could build a cat track on the walls.
He looked back down, and the little orange puff and realized she'd put a cape on it. "Oh man... Well, I guess that's that. What's her name?"
Slowly, he held out BB, aiming to do a sort of kitten hostage trade.
"o-of course not! No cowlicks to be seen!" Of course she'd open her god and tell him about his adorable cowlick. What next? Was she gonna start talking about his muscles glistening in his tank top?
Blueberry was still purring when he handed him over. Juni immediately tucked him away into the depths of her hoodie where he could curl up and peer out lazily at the world.
"She hasn't got one yet. You're her person now, so you get the honor of naming her." She smiled, genuinely. She was glad that he seemed to be on board with the kitten, and even more so, excited!
"Wanna go shopping for her stuff later? There's a nice little mom n' pop place that has pet stuff over on 5th."
He squinted his eyes at her when she dismissed the cowlick statement, but quickly averted his attention to his new friend. He grabbed her in his big hands and held her at harms length, looking at her carefully.
"Okay... Milli. I'll call her little Milli." You know, like One in a Million, right? She had the cape and everything. "You like that, Milli?" He looked to the little cat, who was staring at him blankly. He smiled and moved Milli closer to his face so she could poke about like Blueberry.
And that was his first mistake. The little kitten's claws were out suddenly, and it went for a full on batting barrage at his. "Ow, ow! Hey, now! Ah!" He pulled the little cat away from his scratched up face, and then got a bite on the thumb for his efforts. He gave a hiss of pain as he instictively dropped the little kitty, which strode off a few feet and started licking its paws. Slowly he looked over to Juniper, his face covered in scratches and his thumb pulsing with stinging pain.
"Woah... She's got... uh... a bit of a fighting spirit." The kitten looked up at him and started purring from its sitting position, seemingly pleased with its handiwork. You know, sometimes there was a little acclimation period, right? "Uhm... yeah... shopping. Yeah." He would need to go to a hardware store for what he needed.
Milli huh? It was cute! He had his own little furry sidekick now. She could just see them rolling about, playing with laser toys, furr balls, kitty treats, scratching faces, enjoying cat naps-
Wait, what?!
Horrified as the little fluffy ball transformed into a literal demon, she watched mutely as the little kitten mauled her best friend. He had scratches on his face and she'd bitten his hand before he'd let her go.
Her stomach dropped. "Oh @#$% are you okay?!"
She stepped forward without thinking to grab his injured hand and look at it. Kitten teeth could do a lot of damage considering how sharp and tiny they were. He was bleeding. @#$#. Her track record lately for trying to do nice things and them backfiring was really growing, wasn't it?
Realizing she'd grabbed is hand without really asking she let go and fretted for a moment before running off to get the kit he kept all of his first aid stuff in. She'd snooped to find it once after Blue had shown up half-dead at her doorstep... you know, just in case that was gonna become a regular thing.
She felt truly horrible by the time she came back, but already had a plan in mind to try and fix things. Setting the case on his counter and just kind standing there wondering what she should do. He'd probably just launch into action with bandaids and stuff, but she... well she had that thing about touching that kinda made things difficult.
"I'm sorry I brought actual satan into your place... but, um.. hey! Blueberry really seemed to like you, so we can just switch cats! You can rename him and everything with peachy keen."
She shared a Look with the little kitten who was still cleaning herself. Even if they didn't get along like she and Clyde did, she could at least phase herself to safety and away from little teeth and claw attacks.
"I'm okay! I'm okay!" He smiled bravely through his battle scars. He was a hero! How many times had scared cats scratched him up after he saved them from trees? Millions! Well, not that many, but plenty!
"Juni, I'm fiiiine, really!" He raised an eyebrow as she grabbed his hand and looked it over. There was a little spot of blood on his thumb, but it wasn't that bad, right? Were his eyes a little watery? Nah! Heroes never cry.
She brought the med kid, but hesitated to do anything with it. He smiled and grabbed it up, getting to work bandaging his scratches to make her feel better about it. She then started talking about trading cats. He held up again. "Juniper, it's okay! I already named her. It'll just... take a while for her to adapt, is all. I'm fine. Blueberry is yours. Besides, she's calmed down a whole lot!" He gesture to the cat, who was licking its claws at this point. The tall young man sort of faltered a bit, but then gave a thumbs up, smiling widely.
She squinted at his rebuttal of her efforts but didn't make a comment. She supposed that if he said he was fine, he really must have been fine. Even if he started to look more and more like a hero-themed mummy as the bandaids piled on.
"I guess if you say so..."
She still wasn't sure, but she couldn't fault him for his determination. He had that in spades after all. "I guess it'll sorta be like a battle of wills then, huh?" The cat certainty wasn't lacking in spunk. Blueberry poked his head out lazily, engine still chugging along in a barely audible purr.
"If you ever need good cat therapy just pop on over and visit Berry and Clyde." Heh! Berry and Clyde! "Lord knows Clyde loves you more than he likes me at this point since you won't stop sneaking him food!" He'd gained a whole pound in the time she had known Xavier! A POUND!
But anyway... cat things.
"So.. what kinda things did you wanna get for Milli?" The demon spawn.
"You'll see! We'll be, uh, thick as thieves before too long!" He gave the kitten a nervous glance before turning back to Juni.
"Yeah! You know, a mind mannered cat wouldn't suit me, right?" He smiled widely. His hands landing on his hips in a prideful stance, before being deflated by her accusation. "Hey, I close the cupboards, but he still gets in and steals my food! I have half a mind to think it's really you!" He'd done a spreadsheet of her shopping trips and his missing food... It always coincided with her not going shopping for a while.
What? Was that an invasion of her privacy? She walked through the wall and stole his pants while he slept once. Everything was fair game at this point.
She talked strategy. He put on his game face. "Everything. I'll text my dad to send in the emergency pet fund." Yes, they had tucked away money for this just in case. That was his father's doing. He knew that Xavier would be lonely, and would end up with a pet at some point.
She was, like, genuinely affronted that he thought she was always stealing his snacks!
She'd only borrowed a few things here and there when she had the munchies with every intention of buying more and replacing them before he noticed. Well... apparently he noticed!
"How dare you?" She feigned being insulted, "Why do you think I had like, zero food in my cupboards! That turn knows how to get doors open. You have to put kiddie locks on things if you wanna keep him completely out!"
Or, in her case, she'd have to start closing her window more often if her dumb cat was literally raiding her neighbor's pantry when she wasn't looking.
"Wait, that would mean that he's got a pile of trash stashed somewhere in my place." She frowned and stared off at a distant wall in thought. She was pretty clean for being by herself and kind of lazy... Anxiety tended to push her into being a neater person than she rightly should be. Where was he stashing all of this supposed loot??
(Later, she would discover a hoard of empty plastic bags under her couch and a very hissy Clyde chowing down on a protein bar)
Juniper blinked at him as he mentioned an 'emergency pet fund'. He... him and his dad, they were really like Disney characters weren't they? Like, she could totally see a bunch of wild animals suddenly appearing if Xavier started singing.
So very wholesome.
Her skin started to itch a little and an eye twitched. She pushed past a sudden spike of anxiety. "Neat. How's your dad doing, by the way?"
She knew a bit about them as a family unit now, whatever he had felt inclined to share here and there. He knew... eh... some stuff about her's. Vague things she'd offhandedly mentioned in a dark humor kinda way. There was certainly no emergency fund whatsoever within her direct family line.
In fact, she'd probably have to bail them out of their latest horrible idea.
Well, if she ever decided to talk to them again. It'd been two years since she'd heard a word from either of those idiots.
She was offended. He shrugged. It wasn't like he was super offended himself. He'd been practicing invenstigation, and the correlation spread sheet was something he'd read about in "The analytics of crime fighting" a book by a hero known as THE ACCOUNTANT!
Anyway, she didn't need to know about that. He scratched the back of his head as she went on, hanging his head a bit. "Sorry Juni. Hey, at least he's, uhm, well motivated?" Food motivated, at least. "Hey, that means he should be easy to train, at least, right?" He smiled at his little silver lining before walking over to get a pad and pencil to write a list.
The tall man looked back at Juni as she asked about his dad. Huh. "Oh, he's doing great! Believe it or not, he went on a date the other day. That's kinda a big deal for him." He paused to get out his phone and send his dad a text.
Moments later there was a barrage of texts back, and they started an excited pet talk back and forth before Xavier turned to take a picture of his new pet, which was now hiding underneath his couch.
"Psh. Can't teach an old cat new tricks, I'd say. The last time I tried to train him to do anything he retaliated by eating a whole bag of treats when I wasn't looking."
She watched, slightly jealous, as he dove into a text conversation with his dad in the blink of an eye. It hadn't even taken that long for his dad to get back to him. She distracted herself from wistful, useless thoughts by reaching back to scratch Berry around his little ears gently.
So what if the only regular communication she had was sending a few of her phone contacts, Xavier included, a stream of constant memes? It was still socializing!
She noticed when he seemed to fiddle with his dinosaur of a phone and turned toward where the kitten had been. A picture?
"Oh. Hang on."
Without waiting she headed over to the couch, phased it, and lifted it above her head so that the kitten was out in the open again.
