The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

There was being good at lying, then there was hiding being a freaking serial killer. Those kind of people didn't just, function, with other people right? Like there had to be some signs, some way to tell if a person was hiding that kind of evil deep down. Right? Groaning she just realised what was going to happen when she explained this to her team. "Impact is actually going to kill me this time. Blows my last screw up waaaay out of the water." She was a dead girl walking when she saw them again.
From the reactions she'd seen and the revulsion she'd heard Cait had a hard time thinking the woman had seen or done many things worse than facing a monster like that. Who was you. Which she was still struggling to wrap her head around.
Her own face started turning crimson again when she realised that once again, she had touched this woman without a thought. True it was more in line with how she normally acted with people but after what came before she was still a little embarrassed. And Serena was pretty amazing. And pretty. And amazing. And was touching her back. Oh boy.
Why did this bar have the heat set on so high? "Thanks," she replied quietly, taking her hand back, "You're pretty impressive yourself. Don't know if I could stand finding out my twin was so much different than me."
Ooooo a writer? That was so cool, kind of in the creative wheelhouse too so they already had so much in common. Which didn't matter at all because she was not staring into those blue eyes a little too deeply. Laughing lightly at the comment, "Honestly it does involve a little of that, I'm a musician of sorts. Play, or played I should say, in a band doing general gig work, events that kind of thing. Also a little bit of music tutoring as well which was fun." Teaching kids to love music was kind of awesome.
"And don't worry dear you're in good company, I'm sure my face matches my hair at this point."
Serena raised an eyebrow at the comment. "Hold on a moment, that totally went over my head the first time. Did you say you were on the X-men over there?" To be fair, thoughts of crazy serial killer vampire were kind of distracting, she couldn't really be blamed for missing a detail like that.
During her brief period over there, Serena gathered that the X-men were much more vigilante types, which she actually found kind of even more inspiring than the X-men over here, because life must have been so much harder, but they did it anyway.
Serena bit her lower lip a little through a smile, Cait getting flustered was absolutely adorable, irresistible even. "I've dealt with high stress things since I was a teenager, it was shocking to be sure, but it's not like I'm losing sleep over it." Okay that was actually a lie, she literally had nightmares. But Cait didn't need to know about that.
It was so easy to get lost when staring at a beautiful person's eyes. The windows to the soul thing was all kinds of cheesy and corny, but Serena was definitely enjoying admiring Cait's eyes. "Oh really? I love music. It's a wonderful talent, and teaching is also lovely."
Awkwardness aside, this had turned out to be a really rewarding encounter, Serena loved meeting new and interesting people, and she loved meeting beautiful women even more, Cait definitely qualified. "It's actually rather fetching." She murmured through her smile, fingers gently running over Cait's hand.
"Oh, erm yes. I did say that. Which I really am meant to keep secret still. I think." She was a little in uncharted territory here to be honest. The government here were less shitty than where she was from and mutants weren't as big a deal but she still was technically a criminal right? Either way maybe she would be better not telling random beautiful blondes in bars that she ran around in home made costumes fighting crimes.
Leaning in a little closer and dropping her voice, "Look okay I was, if it makes any difference now that I'm stuck here but please don't spread that around. I have already messed up enough for one night and if my boss ever does here about this she will skin me alive. Probably. Maybe." Serena probably wouldn't tell just anyone but she wasn't exactly sure who she was really so being careful wasn't a bad idea.
Giving her new friend a skeptical look she knew no one made it through experiences like that without some kind of scar. She knew enough people with them and how well they kept them hidden to be be fooled as easily. Sure, she'd missed a serial killer but something like that she knew. "I know I have, over less to be honest. Doesn't ever get easier I've found." Didn't stop her though. Some things were worth the pain and heartache.
Smiling at the genuine feelings she was getting from Serena, "I could say the same. Don't know how many people who could do what you do, especially as young." Why did Serena keeping staring into her eyes, with her own really distracting ones. And distracting hands. And looks.
So much distraction.
Smiling a little stupidly, "Probably the only person I've meet who actually pulled that line off without sounding cheesy." Mainly because she knew Serena wasn't lying to get into her pants. Because she wasn't trying to get into her pants right?
Serena nodded slowly. She really really could not judge Cait for letting it slip, she'd quite recently let that whole thing slip on a live stream with her friend. And outed said friend's pregnancy. But she could also see how Cait might be more understandably nervous around her about that, because from the little she'dd seen of them being regarded as criminals would have made life hard.
Serena squeezed the adorable woman's hand gently. "Hey, it's okay. I won't tell anyone. I promise. I can see why you might not want to go around advertising that." She wondered if anyone would skin her alive for messing up an X. Sam, maybe? That was if he wasn't walking around as a kid. Mirror and Rebecca were her friends outside of the team, they had a very good relationship.
Serena had been teased for the way she often bit her lower lip when she smiled while excited, but it was a habit she had no control over, it just happened. "If anything It just makes you more impressive and interesting. It can't have been easy."
Shrugging before nodding Serena gave Cait a shakier smile. "It's not easy, but as I've said I've dealt with worse, I survived it."
Compliments over her writing didn't get to Serena as much as they once did, signings and reviews had helped with that. She did still flush a little over the comment, but not as much as she once would have. "There are plenty of talented young writers, I'm just lucky."
"Well it's true-" She murmured before adding. "It's very cute, I mean attractive I mean-" Dear god she was so out of practice with flirting. "Feel free to stop me anytime here."
This meeting had been a huge up and down roller coaster for the Scot. It had started with recognising a person she could have fun with. Then it had gotten very nice a teasing, a back and forth, even a kiss! Then revelation after awkward revelation, sadness, a little shame maybe. And now it was back to the first thoughts again. Because Serena was touching her. And squeezed her hand. And things. Kept. Happening.
So many things.
Nodding as it was apparently Serena's turn to comfort her in this weird tennis game of empathy she could only shrug at Serena's comments. "It's part of the job and we had access to our own psychiatrist funnily enough. Doc helped keep most of us sane through it all." Poor Doc, he'd been pretty put upon dealing with their demons over the years but he was so good getting them going again. She was definitely bringing a trans dimensional hat back for him when she managed to find a way home.
Cait really did try hard to not let her disbelieving feelings show but she wasn't going to pry more, no need to cause her new friend more grief than she already had on their first meeting. Given she was of course going to she her again she could always pick away at that pain later.
"I seriously doubt it's just luck. You made it while other didn't, must be a good reason for that." She knew that pretty well herself. Wanting to produce music made her very aware just how much hard work went into those kinds of fields so anyone who made it almost always had more than just a little luck on their side. "Now I need to know, just for very professional reasons, what kind of stories are they?" God she hope they were dirty. That would be awesome.
Grinning she loved how adorably bad Serena was at flirting. "I'm kind of wanting to see just how cute one person can be dear. But please, do feel free to keep complimenting me I'll never say no to a beautiful woman paying attention to me." And touching her. Oh the touching.
Serena nodded. "The X-men here have access to a pretty lovely counselor. And their own Doc, though I suspect he is a little more gruff than yours was." She smiled, inwardly thinking happy thoughts about the old man. He must have been getting on in terms of age by now, but he was just such a truly thoughtful and wonderful person, Serena couldn't help but love him. He had a rough exterior sure, but Serena had always gotten on with him. And he wouldn't do his job if he wasn't a decent person.
Chuckling nervously Serena bit her lip again. "I- Well thank you." She'd heard this all before of course. Her editor tried her hardest to drill it into her brain. "Some of it is definitely a right place, right time combination of circumstances though." Of course there was some skill involved, but luck was still a factor.
"They're urban fantasy. Set in London, but with magic and mystery and a lot of mythological basis. I like to read up on those sort of things. I'm a bit of a nerd." She admitted, blushing for the millionth time.
Dear god. Cait was good at this. So much better than Serena. She waved over more drinks and was swiftly supplied with yet more tequila, along with some for Cait if she wanted it. "You are. A lot better at this." She murmured, downing a shot before turning back to Cait. "It's very hard to not pay attention to you Cait, you are absolutely captivating..." She leaned a little closer before stammering. "I-I think would like to kiss you again."
Gruff? That really depended on who you asked. Deep down he was a sweetheart but some people couldn't quite get past his shell. "I like to think he's a big old love bug but some people can't really see it. Which is a shame, he's probably done more for me than anyone else when it comes to health care." He'd kind of helped her deal with just about everything, from dealing with her first fight to that particularly messy breakup after she'd graduated.
Right time, right place might be a factor but Cait reckoned the woman was really selling herself short. She stood out, clearly, and the Scot couldn't wait to find out why. Well OK, she knew why Serena stood out anyway but more in the art world than, everywhere else. Like bars. On a stool. In front of her. Adorably chewing on her lip and blushing like a school girl.
Hard not to get lost in the moment but Cait was really trying to pay attention. "That sounds, pretty cool actually. I really love old myths and legends, kind of grew up with all the Gaelic and Celtic ones. Cat Sith was a favourite of mine, for obvious reason," she said with a blush, "and it totally has nothing to do with sounding like my name. At all."
Why was she flailing?
Right then. That was why. She'd always heard about a hearts skipping beats but that was a new one for her. How was this woman so cute. Like seriously it just wasn't fair. Coughing slightly before recovered she broke out in a grin, "I think you don't need to ask permission and it would take a woman with a heart of stone to say no to you so....." trailing off she reach up to caress Serena cheek, leaning in to kiss the woman again. Although this time, a little more longingly than her previous peck.
A love bug? Did she mean a bug, like literally? It was mutants, and the X-men so nothing was out of the window. Serena didn't think she'd ever actually met a bug mutant, so that was kind of new and interesting.
Serena didn't often meet people that were actually into myths and legends. And even then, it was usually stuff like the greek myths, the ones that were more ingrained into popular culture, or had been brought to light via a big corporation making a fluffy animated movie for children.
"Wow, really? That's actually fascinating. I've sort of pulled from all over the place, I've not done anything with Cait Sith literature yet, but I've absolutely considered it." She paused, seeing an opportunity for more cheesy flirting and seizing the moment. "Very scary, creepy legend. I'm glad you're much nicer and softer than that." She was bad at this, she had admitted she was bad at this. Time to own it.
Serena felt like flailing in her seat when Cait replied to the comment. It hadn't been so much a request as an out loud admission of intent, to build up courage. Cait was leaning in first, which made sense.
Serena met the beautiful woman's movement with her own. She was much less awkward, much more engaged and eager than before. It showed.
Creepy? Kind of, depending on the context. "Most of the Sith are, in one way or another although there are a lot of benevolent ones hidden away. Like, Gaelic werewolves primarily leave food for starving families and just want to be left alone." That was a nice one, she'd always been enraptured by the idea of wulvers helping out or selkies rescuing drowning sailors. "But yeah some real nasties among them." Even just thinking of one in particular sent a shiver up her spine. Her dad had always made the nuckelavee seem so real in his tellings.
So, yeah. Wow.
Cait had expect the kiss to be nice it was Al- Serena after all. She knew they had chemistry and she already knew who intense those kisses could be. Like there was a deep hunger hiding away behind it ready to drag her into it's depths.
But yeah. This was new.
None of the promises of something more, the eagerness to get lost in some kind of haze. It was more, well in the moment. Which she wasn't complaining about, it was different to what she'd been expect but no less awesome. And really dangerous but she got too many urges for her hands to starting moving places that really would be a bit much. For the moment.
What was she doing again?
Pulling away gently she kept the hand on Serena cheek and looked at her with undisguised interest. "I think it's fair to say, you are very good at this too Serena."
Serena definitely agreed. Actually with European folklore in general, things tended to get very creepy. Most people didn't realise how dark stories got, even with things like the tales Disney movies were based on. "There was a creature in one of them loosely based on the Cirein-cròin, as I said I do like reading a lot of folklore and legend. It's honestly rarer to find wholesome stories than disturbing ones, most of them are."
Serena was... Much less restrained than she usually was, and definitely much less restrained then Cait was currently being. Blame the tequila. Her kiss was soft, and sweet but betrayed an eagerness she hadn't realised was lying below the surface. She ran her hands down Cait's neck a little, nails trailing around while she was lost in the haze.
Exhaling slowly as the kiss parted, as they she was holding her breath the entire time, Serena blushed again, unsure of what do to about the compliment. "Thank you. I'm sorely out of practice." She admitted timidly.
"Look, this isn't the sort of thing I normally do. I'm normally very emotionally driven, and serious when it comes to other people but... I'm starting to think that some fun would be good for me. And you're fun." She muttered, as if it wasn't bleeding obvious.
"Well you fool me dear because that was on hell of a kiss." Like damn. Sure, Cait was a little hard up after losing her memory for a year and the mansion didn't exactly have an abundance of single people with a casual attitude to sex so maybe she was a little rusty too. But still, damn good kiss.
Chewing her lip she was kind of glad to have met Serena. Alice was fun. Lots of it. Also evil so maybe she shouldn't be missing her but Serena was really sweet and shy and cute. Which was awesome. And goodness the blushing messed up her thoughts far too much because it was far adorable for one person to deal with.
Wait when did Serena's hand find it's way down her neck and how had she not noticed that. No complaints but how had that happened?
Trying very hard not to literally jump for joy at the not very subtle request she gave Serena a look at least two parts lust and one part happiness. "Fun I can totally do. Kind of my specialty to be honest and I think we both could do with some. Together. Preferably at your place. So lead the way dear," she breathed slowly standing and offering a hand, "and I'll show you the kind of fun we can have."
