The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Addy let out a sigh, leaning against the wall outside of the school. It was away from the entrance, and from any windows where she was bound to be seen. She was dressed in her black leather jacket, unzipped to reveal a dark purple tee shirt. Her acid washed jeans were adorned with rips, revealing lace underneath, and her black high tops were laced with pink laces and adorned with pins and studs. Her blonde hair was accompanied with light purple highlights, just enough to tell it was a different color. She loved dying her hair, but she preferred the more subtle approach in that case.
Ugh. Where the hell was she?
She knew she told Ronnie to meet her by the side of the school after fourth period and right before lunch. The school's 'meat' loaf always sucked and they were planning on going to get some real food before going out to have a little fun. But that was hard to do when only half of the duo showed up.
She looked at her phone, checking for texts, and looking at the time. Addy had learned to just ignore her battery percentage because her power always drained batteries faster than usual. On the one hand, the influx of energy meant she didn't have to sleep as long as 'normal' people, but this also meant that she couldn't keep a charged phone to save her life.
She scrolled down her messages, opening up a conversation labeled 'Ronnie.'
~You know I said *before* lunch, right? Lunch *today*, not this time next year. ~
Send.
She pointed her right index finger in the air, letting it emit a spark and then quickly trying to write her name in the air. The spark was instantaneous so she never really got past the 'A,' but it was a fun way to pass the time and it looked really cool in the dark. Besides, if she had a weaker charge, it wouldn't make her feel as bad for thinking about zapping her sister when she showed up.
It really was amazing how many schools you could get away with things like drinking and smoking at. Teachers really weren't the smartest people in new york, or they'd probably do something worthwhile and stop bothering reasonable, intelligent people like Veronica.
She hadn't even been the one smoking! She was just hanging around the dude that was, yet she was the one here in the class room waiting for the teacher to go and fetch another faculty member to talk to her about being a negative 'influence' on other students.
The little buzzing of the phone in her bag made her sigh. She swore, if this was mom or dad sending a non-committal message about her poor behaviour she was going to scream. She was going to scream, and smash the windows by proximity.
Huh. Her sister. OH CRAP!
Veronica stuck her head out the door and looked around for the teacher. Nowhere in sight. Great. The smartest of the dumb teachers had learned that when in detention or making her wait for a lecture, do it on at least the second floor. This teacher was not one of those.
But a few moments later Veronica was out in the sweet free air of one of the courtyards, making her way towards her sister, huffing little visible breaths in the frigid air.

For the love of God where was she? That girl is gonna be late for her own ****ing funeral...
Her body stiffened as she zipped her jacket against the cold, fidgeting as she grew more and more impatient. Addy'd thought about just leaving without her, but she merely entertained that thought. She could never actually do that to her sister. Anyone else, she wouldn't have thought twice, but...Veronica was lucky.
Green eyes just happened to shift towards one end of the school just in time to see a familiar figure crossing the courtyard, breath visibly hanging in the air for a bit with every huff.
When she got close enough, Addy threw her arms up in a shrug. "What happened, Ronnie? Get lost? Or did you find yourself a good time without me?" she said, her voice sharp, but the gleam in her eyes would tell her that Addy was joking.
"Come on, let's get the hell outta here. I'm starving and as far as I'm concerned this ****ing school day is over." She looked back to make sure her sister was behind her. "So, where to? Somewhere close by or take the bus?"
Veronica strolled across the courtyard, slowing down and looking casual, fingers jammed into her tiny jean pockets as she moved over too her sister. She was pissed. It was annoying that she'd gotten into S*** because the school hired idiots that couldn't do their jobs, and she was more annoyed that Addy had to wait for her.
Eyes narrowed. "Call me that again, and I don't give a **** if you shock me, I will punch you. I will punch you in your face." She hissed. "I was being a bad influence again." She muttered, starting to walk along next to her sister.
Veronica eyed her sister again. "God, I could go for a burger. Like a massive greasy one. You pick." She began humming as they moved.

"C'mon, sis. That's my pet name for you~" She teased. "And our little secret," she added, her voice a lot more sincere this time. "You? A bad influence? Nah...not Veronica Monroe. She's a ****ing saint," she kept teasing, being careful not to call her 'Ronnie' again because she knew she was serious about the punching thing.
"That, we can agree on," Addy replied, letting her finger spark and dragging it across the side of a brick building as they walked. "So what'd you get caught doing this time? Put another tack in Mrs. Hollensworth's chair? Ohwait that was me." She smirked.
"I know the perfect place, and it's not very far." As they walked, Addy began humming along with her sister, harmonizing like she always had while the fingers on her left hand began to move as if they were dancing over a fretboard. Soon, Addy led her younger twin to a small, hole in the wall kind of restaurant, "I come here on my solo runs, but I'm glad 'her highness' decided to join me today," she quipped. The wait wasn't bad, and soon they were in front of the line.
"Shouldn't you two be in school?" The young man behind the counter asked. "Shouldn't you have gone to college?" Addy quipped, her voice colder than it had been when teasing her sister. "I'll have the Twisted Sister," she said, pointing out their signature bacon cheeseburger topped with jalapenos and chipotle mayonnaise. "Pink Lemonade to drink, extra onion rings, and whatever she'd like."
"No that's your 'please punch me in the face Veronica, look my face is so punchable' name for me." She growled.
Veronica glared. "It's not my fault if people get into trouble doing the things I do, besides that the real problem are the idiots that give me grief for living my life." She muttered. "It's not like I'm hurting anyone. Well, mostly." The theft might be considered damaging to some people, but she generally only stole from people that deserved it. Snobs, and other crooked types that needed to be knocked down a peg, or five.
"What the F*** how did you not get caught?" She threw her arms up. "I wasn't even doing anything, some lame guy pining after me was smoking near me and the teacher automatically blames me? F*** em!"
Veronica gave her sister another quick glare, but without any real weight behind it. "Yea yea."
Veronica rolled her eyes. Throwing down a few bills on the counter before Addy could grab anything to pay. "Same thing but a real drink. Coke."

"Somebody's feisty today! I dig it." While her voice was teasing, her green eyes looked over at her sister with one of those 'let me know if you need anything' sort of looks. Despite all the teasing, and calling her Ronnie even though she hated it, Addy thought the world of Veronica. She always had, and as far as she was concerned, she always would. People came and went, but...it had always been the two of them.
"Oh I totally understand. Kinda like my art. Nobody's getting hurt, so what's it matter? And in your case...people can always get more ****. Not important." the blonde kept her voice low at the last half of that sentence, her way of letting her sister know that she had her back.
Addy grinned, running a hand through her blue streaked hair. "I'm just that good," she said with a wink. "Well, that's why you should be like me and only chase girls," Addy said with a shrug. "Boys are nothin' but trouble." Honestly, she didn't know how she felt about that. Maybe she'd change her mind if she met the right boy but as it stood, all the boys she'd met were stupid.
Addy was sure her eye rolling was audible when Veronica paid for the food before she could even make a move for her purse. Damn it.
"We'll see who's real when all that soda fucks up your kidneys," Addy retorted, still joking but her voice a little more deadpan than it had been.
The service was surprisingly fast, and Addy made the move to grab the food before Veronica could get to it. If Ronnie insisted on paying, then Addy was going to carry it for them. She set the tray on the table and slid into the booth, next to the window, but also right under a television. It wasn't much, but it was nice to have a power source besides their phones to drain from.
"What's that supposed ta mean?" Feisty? She'd heard that before, and it was mostly people teasing her. Several of those people had received a swift kick to the groin before Veronica either fled, or swiped some of their possessions and then fled.
People's opinions were honestly irrelevant to her life. Her parents didn't even have opinions. Even if they did, they didn't get the privilege of having opinions on her life. Addy's did matter. Not that Veronica would ever voice that outloud to anyone. Or even write it down anywhere that people could find it. It was private. Her own little secret.
She was unsure of the extent Addy knew she liked her. By comparison to most people, Veronica actually tolerated Addy, but it definitely went beyond that. She didn't voice it though, so she didn't know how much her sister had figured things out.
"Everyone sucks, gender doesn't mean crap." Truthfully Veronica didn't know how she felt about the whole sexuality thing. Most people were repulsive.
"It's a diet soda. Besides, life is too short for worrying about crap like that. If I want to abuse my body, I'll do it. It's mine." Veronica immediately tore into the packaging and took a chunk out of the burger when they sat down. She'd not realised how hungry she'd been before then. "Also f*** off with the soda, the burger is way worse. And worth it."
"It means you're spirited. Plucky. Got an attitude for someone so little," she jabbed before adding, "Granted I'm the pot that called the kettle black, but I'd say you're a little more fiery than me." She smirked.
"And that, dear sister, is why we're both single. Because everybody sucks." She laughed. While Addy liked to think that Veronica reciprocated her feelings, sometimes it was hard to tell. It wasn't nearly as bad as when her powers first surfaced, several months before Veronica's did. That sparked a phase where Addy truly felt like Veronica didn't love her and many a night was spent crying herself to sleep. She didn't know if Veronica actually knew that because she tried to keep it secret, but there were sometimes where Addy wondered if that was the norm and Veronica was just being nice by tolerating her. She hoped otherwise, but sometimes that thought just nagged at her. Not right now though, because there was food and this was actually one of their more touching moments.
"Okay so you get the kidney stones and I overdose on sugar and chocolate. We can share the grease and the clogged arteries," she said with a snort, taking a big bite out of her burger.
"Addy you're really working your way up to a smack." She muttered. How did her sister not think being called plucky was lame? It wasn't even like she was just labeling Veronica with it either, she'd called herself it too. It was like Addy wanted people to laugh at them, sometimes Veronica thought she'd just completely lost the plot, that could be the only reasonable explanation for her behavior, surely.
"Oh, is that why you're single?" She quirked an eyebrow, a smile creeping at the corners of her mouth before being quickly disguised by popping an onion ring into it.
"Jesus, when did you become such a health freak?" Veronica would put whatever she damn well pleased into her body, thank you. "You're starting to sound like mom."

"It's a cool word, dammit," she huffed, looking up from her phone that she'd had hidden under the table to look up the word 'feisty,' and she totally didn't read the definition off, either. Nope.
"I mean....y-yeah," she said, blushing softly, focusing back on her food. "It's because everybody sucks. Definitely." Totally wasn't because her powers had a habit of shocking people. Or because people found her scary, not at all. She was approachable, damn it.
"Hey, I don't give a damn about health; I was just teasing. Eat what you want, but..." her eyes narrowed. "Do not compare me to mom. Ever," she snapped, her voice cold and more serious than it usually got. She bit her lip. "I actually care, ya know?"
It was good that Addy had hidden her phone from view while looking up the word, Veronica was well aware of the meaning and may have suggested that her sister should maybe not skip school if she didn’t know basic English. This was America after all, if you didn’t know how to speak properly, how would you get anything done? Also she was not having her backing vocals screwed up. No way.
A little teasing smile crept onto Veronica’s face. “Awwwwh, is my sister having girl trouble? Would you like to talk about it while we paint our nails? Should I buy you some rom coms and ice cream?” Veronica cared a lot less about the opinions other people had of her, truth be told. As long as they saw her, heard her voice, she could care less.
“Well don’t act like that then. It weirds me out.” She admitted.
Rolling her eyes in amusement Veronica smiled again. “You care too much, you dummy.”

It was no secret that school wasn't Addy's thing. Well, she didn't think it was; she'd never really stayed in one long enough to find out. Besides, she was a background vocalist, she didn't need to know what words meant, only the proper pronunciation of them. And in music, even that was flexible sometimes. Looking at you, Pearl Jam.
"No, I am not having 'girl trouble.' I've got it pretty much figured out," she said with a shrug. "Most girls are either scared of me, or they don't like the little sparky thing," she added with a small smile to hide the fact that it really sucked, to be honest. "Only if you paint them black, mint chocolate ice cream, and you can shove the rom coms up your ass." Addy gave a sly smirk at that one; she couldn't be thrown off her game for long. Besides they were reaching their quota on emotional moments for the year, and it was only January.
"Sorry, I'll stop. And maybe I do care too much," she admitted, taking another grease-laden bite of her burger, followed by a sip of lemonade.
"I mean...somebody in this family has to. Nicholas and Clarity sure as hell don't..." Addy made a habit of calling them 'mom' and 'dad'. In her eyes, they hadn't earned that privilege.
Veronica sighed. Setting down her burger gently, taking a quick sip of her beverage before glancing back at her sister. Time for some of that sagely sister advice. "Addy, can I tell you something? Your answer does not matter no, I'm telling you anyway."
"People are S---, most all of em'. If someone isn't interested in you, it's either because they have bad taste in music, or they're straight, or just a s--- person. They're not worth your time. S--- even some of the ones that don't do any of those things aren't worth your time." She toyed with an onion ring before popping it in her mouth.
She glanced up at her sister again from her food. "Stop being so hormonal and rushing, just enjoy yourself, keep writing music with me and you'll find someone you like that likes you back eventually. Thristy isn't a good look on you either." She teased.
Okay, this was too much sisterliness. "And that's all I'm saying on the subject, and your sisterly advice and affection quota for winter. Take it or leave it."
"You'd better. Care about yourself more." Addy was too soft, the world was going to chew her up if she wasn't careful. And Veronica would have to pick up the pieces.
"You can call them mom and dad. They're the ones that asked us to call them by their first names. And there are plenty of sh----- parents around, it's not like we're special like that."

Addy sighed, giving her sister a nod. Her advice could usually go either way, but at the same time, Veronica was the one person on earth who knew her secrets. From her being into girls, to how much she cared, to even her greatest fears and concerns. "I guess, but the trouble is finding someone that's both worth my time and that thinks I'm worth theirs," she said with a shrug, then sighed again.
"You're right, I guess. Just have fun and maybe the right one will cross my path. Watched pot never boils, I guess. But you don't seem to think anything looks good on me, do you?" she quipped, her voice turning right back to her usual teasing tone.
"Okay, so I've met my quota already. And I'm trying to care more, but...whatever. I'm just the bleeding heart out of the two of us. Maybe that's just my burden to bear."
This time, she let out an audible groan. "Uuuuuugh....I don't want to call them Mom and Dad...I wanna call em Asshole and Dickwad but I'd forget which is which..." she said, finishing her burger, and popping an onion ring into her mouth. "Why do they have to make rebellion so hard?" she said, heaving a long, frustrated sigh as she rested her head on her palms and her elbows on the table.
