The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mirror had made several good friends over the years, many at the Mansion, and some outside of it. They, however, tended to come and go, and it was always a special occasion when one was near. Mirror liked to share news, feelings, events with her friends, and sometimes the news were good enough to even bring drinks.
Serena had just recently returned to New York, and passed the test to become and X-man. She was a great addition to the team, and planning on sticking around for a long time. Which was great, because Maya had some very unexpected, very great news, and she had to share them with a friend.
She knocked on the door of Serena's apartment in the evening, hoping she would be home. In one hand, she was holding a bottle of wine, which she held up with a grin when the door opened.
"Hey! I hope I'm not interrupting anything, but... you in the mood for a drink?"
Serena had thought about, and spent so much time close to becoming a member of the X-men that it was honestly just weird to think about. The test had been challenging, sure. But it wasn't like she wasn't capable, so she kind of blew through it. It was just weird though. She'd known a bunch of X-men for almost 8 years this point and from an outside view they always seemed so amazing, so larger than life. But on the other hand, she was literally friends with and trained with several of them on more than one occasion.
And now she was one. Her teamwork was really the only thing that she needed to work on. Luckily, working with others came pretty naturally to her so she was picking it up pretty quickly.
She was sitting in basically silence, in the dark with just her laptop screen illuminating. Working on a post for the weekend, it was still strange being self employed and not in any time of full time education or structured work. She was her own boss, which funnily she figured worked quite well with being on a team of super heroes. She felt weirdly giddy about the whole thing, she took it seriously.
She blinked and rose, strolling to the door. Serena was totally not in anything remotely suitable for going out or socialising. Sweatpants and a pink tank top did not qualify. It was comfy though, and her apartment was warm. She strolled over to the door and wondered who it could be, not even bothering to flick the light switch she swung her door open. Her lips blossomed into a wide grin. "Oh not at all, I've always got time for you." She moved to hug Mirror.
Serena looked like she was in for the night, or at least not heading anywhere important. Her face lit up as she saw Maya.
>>"Oh not at all, I've always got time for you. Come in, please."
"Good" Maya smiled as she hugged her back with her free arm before moving into the apartment "Because we gotta open some wine. And celebrate. You know, we haven't really celebrated you becoming an official team member either." she added as a sudden realization. This was not the reason she had come over, but now that she was here, she was not really sure how to say the words. She had never told a friend before that she was going to be a parent. Uncharted territory. "You have glasses somewhere?"
Serena grinned and let Maya into the apartment, flicking on some lights as she did. She glanced around, very pleased that the place was not pretty clean. Ignoring the clothes in the lounge. Well, nothing was dusty at least, and the kitchen was spotless and stocked, her writing desk was a little bit more of a mess but that was okay, it was because she'd been working.
She blinked. She'd not really thought of that. "Sure! I think I have some absurdly expensive wine somewhere." She mused. Serena had bought very little of her wine. It was mostly her crazy grandmother trying to buy her attention by sending her gifts. As a result she only drank them with friends and continued to ignore the witch, largely just to spite her.
She nodded with a grin. "Top left cupboard. Hold on, I'll be right with you." She moved over to her writing desk and saved and closed down her laptop, yawning and stretching before moving back into the kitchen area. "So what's been up with you? Other than throwing deathbots at me in the danger room, I mean."
>>"Sure! I think I have some absurdly expensive wine somewhere."
"Of course you do" Maya snickered, moving to the kitchen area. She had brought her own wine, but she was not going to say no whatever fancy kind Serena had stashed away. The occasion merited fancy wine.
>>"Top left cupboard. Hold on, I'll be right with you. So what's been up with you? Other than throwing deathbots at me in the danger room, I mean."
Maya rummaged around for glasses, and managed to find a pair, so she busied herself with opening the bottle. She didn't usually drink wine all that much, but it felt more fitting than whiskey, especially since Sam stopped stocking the latter in his fridge.
"Well... uh, a lot, actually. With people going back to kids, it's been pretty random. I guess you heard Evelyn's back? She's like ten years old. Freaky." she poured two glasses of wine and offered one to Serena "I'm just gad you didn't show up five years old or something. Because this would be a lot more awkward."
She glanced over her shoulder and shot Mirror a pout. "I didn't buy it if that's what you're thinking. An insane, but rich hag sent it to me." Serena mostly didn't complain about people, she also generally didn't use descriptors remotely close to hag. But her grandmother was a special case of evil, and deserved to be regarded as such.
"I've actually not had anything to drink since I've been back." She admitted. It'd been a while since she'd had any drink, but even at the worst of times Serena had a pretty solid tolerance, probably due to the nature of her bloodstream. Although maybe it was just one of those things. She'd not had anything in a long while, so it would probably hit her more than usual.
Not that it mattered much, she was just hanging out with a friend. It wasn't like they were at a party or something where she could embarrass herself. "Oh yeah... I totally forgot, I meant to text you a warning, I kind of brought her into the mansion." She paused for a moment. "She was a real little sociopath as a child, wasn't she?"
>>"I've actually not had anything to drink since I've been back."
"Lord, we are adults" Maya smirked. She had not really been drinking either, especially since she had taken on more responsibilities at the Mansion, and found out she was going to be a parent. Adulthood was scary. Especially when some people seemed to be going in the opposite direction.
>>"Oh yeah... I totally forgot, I meant to text you a warning, I kind of brought her into the mansion. She was a real little sociopath as a child, wasn't she?"
"You have no idea..." Maya sighed, shaking her head "I'll tell you all about it in a minute. But first of all: cheers." she grinned, clinking her glass to Serena's. "Congratulations on being an X-man. And also. I... um, have some news."
Serena giggled heartily at that response. "Hey! I've been an adult for years, you just took a while to catch up!" She teased, moving over to the counter where Mirror was and did another little one armed hug squeeze. "I'm glad you've found a path you enjoy for your life. And someone to share it with. Seriously, it makes me so very happy for you Maya." She chirped. She hoped that Gemma and Sam were just as pleased with Mirror.
She nodded grimly. "Honestly, at first I thought she was Evelyn's kid. Well... And yours." She supplied, giving Mirror a bemused look.
She clinked glasses and took a small sip. "Cheers. Thank you." She grinned happily. "So what news are you referring to?"
>>"Hey! I've been an adult for years, you just took a while to catch up! I'm glad you've found a path you enjoy for your life. And someone to share it with. Seriously, it makes me so very happy for you Maya."
Maya smiled at her friend. It felt nice to hear those words.
>>"Honestly, at first I thought she was Evelyn's kid. Well... And yours."
"Why is it that every time a kid shows up at the Mansion people assume it's mine?!" Maya groaned. Seriously? Sam had just as much of a chance to be a dad. Probably a lot more. And yeah, Evelyn had been her girlfriend... but the idea of their kid just suddenly showing up? Déja vu. No thank you.
>>"Cheers. Thank you. So what news are you referring to?"
"Well, uhh..." Maya chuckled, sensing the irony in the conversation "Talking about kids... turns out Becca and I are going to have one."
She burst out laughing, taking another sip of wine. Not bad. "Hey hey, in my defense she did look about the right age for... You know." She raised an eyebrow. It had been about 6 year since she'd seen Evelyn. "How are you dealing with that, by the way?" She'd wandered how Mirror and Evelyn had parted, Mirror's romantic history seemed almost as complicated as Rebecca's sometimes. And that was saying something.
To be fair, Sam was the other person she'd generally assume on the team might have a bunch of kids running around. He was surprisingly smooth with the ladies, all things considered.
She blinked. Slowly, several times. Serena took a quick breath, set down her wine glass and hugged Mirror tightly, her voice raising several octaves. "Oh my goodness! That's lovely, that's so wonderful! It's so exciting! I mean, wow! Sorry, congratulations!"
Verbal flailing Serena, reign it in. She took a breath and disentangled herself from the affectionate mauling she'd just thrown at Mirror, smiling a bit more sheepishly. "How are you handling it, feeling about it?"
>>"Hey hey, in my defense she did look about the right age for... You know. How are you dealing with that, by the way?"
Maya just sighed and rolled her eyes. She was not dealing with that at all, not at the moment. Besides, she had other kid-related news to share.
She'd expected Serena to be excited about it. She'd braced herself for the hugging and the squealing, and chuckled as her friend pounced on her in joy.
>>"Oh my goodness! That's lovely, that's so wonderful! It's so exciting! I mean, wow! Sorry, congratulations!"
"Thanks" Maya grinned as Serena finally peeled off of her, still all giddy.
>>"How are you handling it, feeling about it?"
"Well... slightly terrified?" Maya chuckled, drinking some wine "But definitely happy. Kid's gonna be a handful, though. They are giving Becca some very wonky secondary mutations..."
Well at least Maya wasn't persistently freaking out about her Ex girlfriend being around as a 7 year old. She had absolutely no clue how she'd deal with exs turning up as children. Mind you, she didn't know how well she'd deal with exes period, she'd not really had that problem for a long time. At University it cropped up once or twice, but she generally kept so busy she'd not had to interact with them.
Serena steadied herself on the counter, grabbing her glass of wine and taking a sip. Not that alcohol helped much with impulsive behaviour, but it was something she could do that didn't involve mauling her friend with hugs.
"You. Will be fine. You've had some crazy kids to deal with around the mansion, you're literally a super hero. Not saying it will be easy, but between the two of you you'll manage." She chirped enthusiastically.
"Poor Becca." She mused. "I'm very glad I'm never going to have to deal with that, goodness I hadn't even thought about what mutant children could do to your body." She shuddered at the thought normally, let alone when a mutation was involved.
"Oh, for the record I volunteer in advance as sitter when you get around to that point." She smiled again.
>>"You. Will be fine. You've had some crazy kids to deal with around the mansion, you're literally a super hero. Not saying it will be easy, but between the two of you you'll manage."
"Oh I'm sure we will" Maya chuckled. She had faith in Becca, and their relationship, and the resources the Mansion had to offer when it came to caring for mutant kids. Still, just like any kid, this one was gonna be a trip too.
>>"Poor Becca. I'm very glad I'm never going to have to deal with that, goodness I hadn't even thought about what mutant children could do to your body. Oh, for the record I volunteer in advance as sitter when you get around to that point."
"Careful, I might take you up on that" Maya grinned "We don't know that the exact powers are yet, but so far Becca has had feathers, antennae, wiggling hair, and she glowed like a firefly for a day. The kid seems to swap powers at midnight like I do. Kinda freaky."
She nodded with a smile. Good. At least Mirror wasn't absolutely freaking out and tearing down the walls. Some people really were not remotely prepared to be parents, and thus had a meltdown when this sort of thing happened. She was very happy to see that Mirror wasn't at least breaking down. She hoped Rebecca hadn't been taking the whole situation badly, she'd put off visiting her Scottish friend for too long. She'd do it very soon.
"Wouldn't have offered if I didn't mean it, sweetie." She replied, hopping up onto the counter and sitting on it, looking down on Maya little now, scooping up her glass again and holding it out. "Cheers. Congratulations." She smiled brightly again, showing some teeth. "Now this is a cause to celebrate, there isn't really a bigger deal than a new life." She mused.
