The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Everything was quiet in the hallway. Still early enough that no one was really awake yet. Perfect opportunity for a certain mutant to get back at someone. After having gotten accidentally caught up in a prank war between some of the other students they had been doing a bit of research on the one that got them so now they were ready to lay their trap. It wasn't anything big or fancy but they wanted to avoid getting someone other than the intended target. They were still in their night clothes tucked into a small alcove further down the hallway. Closer to the staircase at the far end of the hall was where the trap was set.
Carefully stretched across the width of the hall was plastic wrap three stripes of it one at head level, one just above the carpet, and one mid way between those. From what they've managed to gather about their target they came down this hallway every morning around this time. Now it was just a waiting game. Auburn blew a stray bit of hair out of their face and waited in their little hiding spot. They were about to get bored of waiting when there was a commotion in the hallway. They jumped out into the hallway excited to see their plan play out. Instead their face dropped into one of concern and worry when they realized the person they had caught wasn't the one they were suppose to have caught.
"I am so sorry." They said going over to help the student they had caught. "This was meant for someone else I didn't mean to get you instead." At this point the words were coming out pretty rapid fire. They ran a hand through their hair before holding out the hand help the girl off the ground. They laughed a bit trying to lighten the mood when he recognized the girl as one of the newer students. "Some introduction to the school, huh?" they joked.
Rivka was trotting down the hall at a good clip, on her way to make breakfast. It was fairly easy to find something to eat that was semi-Kosher during lunch and dinner, but breakfast was more of a challenge. The breakfast bar seemed to have bacon or ham in, on, or touching just about everything she wanted to eat. As such, she'd taken to cooking her own eggs in a cast-iron skillet she kept separate for her own use. She'd learned to be a bit more flexible in her interpretation of the Law when it came to food, but one still had to draw a line somewhere. She liked to arrive in the ktichen early however, before it got crowded.
On the street, she was very guarded, as being aware of her surroundings was a fact of life where she grew up, more so than other parts of the world. But here inside the school, she wasn't nearly so worried, or cautious. Which was problably why she blundered right into the trap. Her foot caught on the bottom piece of plastic wrap, causign her to trip and pitch forward, which combined with being short brought her head down under the top piece. The middle band caught her mid-body, stretched...and tossed her back, as she began to flay at the air. "EEEeeee!" Coming up straight, her head hit the top piece which gave way, even as she grabbed for the middle to catch herself, and that one too pulled away. The petite brunette, found herself on her butt, tangled in cling wrap which now, true to its name, clung to itself. She looked very surprised and rather bewildered by the whole thing.
That's when the other student showed up, and what had happened become clear - she'd blundered into a prank meant for someone else. Hopefully they realized, this meant war... Rivka began to laugh as she was helped up, and tried to get a piece of plastic that was wrapped around her arm off. "Am Rivka" she said in her heavily accented English. "Umm.... please to meet?" she replied, as she got her arm free.
Auburn was a good shade of red at this point from embarrassment and let of her hand as soon as she was upright. It took them a second to understand what she had said as they got used to her accent. As they spoke they tried to keep their own southern accent to a minimum. "I'm Auburn. Again I'm really sorry about catching you like this. No one else is usually going down this hallway this early in the morning."
"Food law; make own breakfast" Rivka explained, as she gazed upwards. This guy was really tall! Or, um... actually, on closer scrutiny, she wasn't entirely sure if this was a girl or a guy. Was it...possible to be both? He (or she) was a mutant after all. Whatever the case, they were definitely tall and skinny! "Go early, kitchen not crowd. Like come, easy make two?" she offered. She was very animated and talked a lot with her hands as well, which made it easier to determine that she was offering to cook breakfast for them both, if Auburn cared to join her.
Auburn looked a bit confused for a moment at 'food law' wondering if it she meant an allergy or something, but it quickly faded to a grin. "Sure I'm not gonna pass up free food if someone's offering." They had to admit it was cute the way she talked with her hands like she did. It made sense though since her english wasn't the best. They bent over to pick up the pieces of plastic wrap now on the floor and balled it up in their hands to throw away. "Lead the way."
The kitchen was still fairly quiet, though there where a couple of people there already. The mansion was rarely completely still, with the odd hours some of the denizens kept. Rivka retrieved a small cast-iron skillet from a cabinet, removing it from a large ziplock bag that had "Kosher Only!" written on it. She set the bag to the side to reuse when she was done.
She quickly beat some eggs and set to work making two cheese omelettes. "Learned easier to come early" she said with a smile as she worked. "No chaos early" she continued, glancing around at the almost empty kitchen with its small dining area. Later, the place would be buzzing with students, and they'd spill out into the main dining hall.
As she set the plates down, she quickly recited a prayer over the food from memory which was second nature to her, "Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech Ha'Olam shehakol nihiyah bed'varo" It dawned on her as she began to sit that the Hebrew probably didn't make a lot of sense to someone else however. "ah, translate to 'Blessed you Lord, who word all thing come and be'" she explained. "Have start day much protein, or no make lunch" she told her companion, shaking her head with a grin. She probably ought to carry a protein bar with her, she thought, but had been too lazy to actually go buy some.
Auburn followed her into the kitchen, nodding a greeting to the other people already sitting at the table as they walked in. "This is about the only time of day this mansion isn't crazy." They watched her cook for a bit before stepping over to the nearby coffee pot to get themself a cup. As they did they looked over at the ziplock bag. "Kosher, huh? So that's what you meant by food law earlier." Of course they didn't care what she was as long as she wasn't bothering anyone else with it. They just hadn't met anyone that followed it before.
They brought their cup over to the table just as Rivka was sitting down the plates. They bowed their head when she started what he realized must have been a prayer, looking back up again when she was finished. "Good words to live by." They sat down at the table and took a bite of the eggs. "You're a pretty good cook."
Ah hah! Something that she could answer and know she was doing it perfectly. "Thank you" she replied with a smile. For about the 100th time since she arrived in the States, she wished she'd worked harder in her class on English. She'd gotten good grades simply because she was pretty good at languages but she knew she'd been skating by on talent, and not working to her full potential. Now, well, she regretted it. But there was nothing to be done but start where she was now.
"Have been... at school long" she asked, slowly and carefully, and remembering to use her preposition, 'at'. "Please, help when English bad" she asked, gesturing to herself and indicating that she wouldn't mind assistance from a native speaker. It was the best way to learn, and she was determined to get good as quickly as she could. Language profs said that full immersion was the best learning situation, but right now, she felt like she was drowning.
"Am planning trick self" she said with a warning smirk. She wondered how the teachers kept the school standing with a bunch of mutant kids with powers running around, much less once they started pranking each other!
Auburn simply shook their head at her first question, their mouth full of eggs. They swallowed before answering. "No I've been here less than a year myself. Let me tell ya coming from small down America to the big city was a shock. Not nearly as bad as your's though I'm sure."
They picked up another forkful gesturing with it as they spoke. "Now my english ain't the best, but I don't see why we can't give it a try" They raised an eyebrow and put the fork down leaning in closer to her when she started talking about another trick. "You have my attention now."
"Tel Aviv, it big, but no big New York" Rivka explained, making a funny face and eye roll that expressed her dismay at being plopped in New York. "Is cold. Tel Aviv, it warmer. No snow Tel Aviv" she said with a little laugh. She'd have to get used to that... white stuff. She knew what it was, of course, but hadn't ever really had to deal with it.
"Mm mm" she replied negatively with a coy smile. "Must wait see" she told her breakfast-mate with an impish grin. She was quickly learning how to use her power, and she had something in mind that just might do the trick. While she considered her mutation mostly an inconvenience, perhaps it might have its occasional uses.
