The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Writer: Deal Rivka in for a temporary (and slight) deage. I think she ought to do Sweet 16 all over again. So, she'll be back to having memories of just arriving in NY. She can get lost all over again! Rivka: I don't suppose *I* get a vote in this? Writer: Nope! LOLOLOL
I'd been working on a list of possible changes to MRO to try and help. This list is my own personal considerations and is in no way an indication of what the mod team will eventually do (I only post it here to get feedback on my ideas).
Expand with non-mutant powers: Do IT! (very easy) Magic: Just specify what they can and can't do. Particularly big, play-changing things. Honestly, I'd say magic characters should be earned, so you know the player and that they're not going to go nuts, but that's just my two shekel's worth. In GURPS Magic, there were colleges like fire, water, healing. Maybe limit to 1 or 2 colleges? I dunno. New plot/characters deaged:YES Taken mutation changes/reign in what is an overlap: Do it. Also, clean up the list. If the character hasn't posted in X weeks, remove from list. (Easy for me to say, since my weird characters don't really overlap much of anything). Increase power limit: Sure, if you want. Shrug. It honestly won't affect me that much. Shake up application process: Yes and no. I feel it should be site, rather than email based, but that's easy. Keep It Simple Silly! I like the level of detail. I'm just afraid of it changing into one of those coding nightmare apps of other sites. Just say'n. Specify what can be changed. Make it a site rule that touching the power without permission is a big no-no, but updating clothing, markings, personality & hobbies... Those things change, especially with young characters. Maybe arrange the app so that the "do not touch" is at the top or very bottom? I dunno, just brainstorming.
We're the "new X-men"... Maybe allow an Avengers, with all OC's? An Avengers that is similar, yet different... That might be cool. There could then be a spin-off "Young Avengers". I dunno, I see lots of possibilities. Frankly, the 150 post for a 2nd character is daunting, especially when the site is slow. Maybe allow a 2nd at 30? That shows interest and that the player is probably going to stick around, but isn't such a long wait. I'd bring my other student, Claire, back in a heartbeat if you did that.
MRO's biggest strength is also its biggest weakness- its focus on OC's.
If you add Canons, you'll attract players who prefer them to OCs. Just say'n.
Personally, from the day I bought and read Asgardian Wars graphic novel, I've wanted with all my heart to throw one (or more) of my New Mutants OC's into that scenario.
Currently, that's impossible in MRO. But if other elements like Asgardians were added, that would be a doozy of a Site Event!
The biggest thing I think you should do is ADVERTISE. Do a big recruitment drive. Pick a group of focus, and advertise & recruit for that specifically. Shameless Plug: Why not start by building a strong student body?
So, for example, 30 post increments for each new character slot rather 150 post increments. Or perhaps the first three characters are free but after that you have to buy slots?
So I went to work - and got fired. That was my reliable internet access (my phone HATES MRO). I may be able to post here or there but I'm pretty much SOL until I get a work-around. Sorry guys.
Rivka picked up the baggie to look at the contents before nodding her head. She also held it so that Luke could see her pick. "Yes, like this one" she responded, before fishing her wallet out of her purse, to pay for the item and the piercing. There. Now she was committed. The idle thought of 'having (another) hole in her head' briefly flitted through her mind. She wouldn't say it though, as she was sure her father would say something to that effect the next time she saw him.
"Okay, think ready." She gulped a little before adding "we do now?"
Shani concentrated, and actually moved her foot. Whether that was really necessary was another fine detail she wasn't quite clear on with Bubble Jumping. The truth was, she didn't really need to do that. When they moved into the new bubble, in enlarged to fit them more or less comfortably. This bubble was therefore taller to accomadate her new friend's taller frame. The bubble she'd gotten out of (and rather forgotten about) hovered nearby, and had shrunk back down to 4 or 5 centimeters when she'd quit paying attention to it.
"See! Easy. Keep out rain, but no seem to run out air" she assured him. She theorized that the bubbles must be semi-permeable, but wasn't entirely sure. It was one of those things on her Mutant "To-Do" lists - investigating the various aspects of how these things worked.
The synagogue Rivka had settled into was called Riverside Jewish Center, and it seemed to be a pretty good fit. It fell somewhere between Orthodox and Conservative in her opinion, though they called it Orthodox. It was definitely not stuffy, and being less than a mile from the school she could easily walk. It was designed to fill a gap that the founder had seen, and reach out to Jews that may have fallen away during college but were now returning. As such, the service was done mostly in English, though the English and Hebrew were both put up by projectors. It made the service easy for its American audience whose Hebrew might be rusty (or non-existent) to follow. Rivka liked it, as the Hebrew made it easy for her to follow, and the spoken English was helping to improve her English as well. As shuls went, it was relatively small, with seating for perhaps 150 and an attached dining or general purpose room off one side.
The only thing she didn't like was the ages of the congregants. They had some old and wizened couples and leaders whose children were long gone, and they had many young couples with little children as well as single adults in the mid twenties to thirties. But she was about the only teen that attended. The next closest was a boy of 12, and while she didn't hate him, he was rather a pest. Rivka hadn't the slightest clue that this was his immature, awkward, way of flirting with her each week.
She had arrived early for Friday evening service. She usually came to the morning service, but her father was supposed to come to town tomorrow morning, so she'd come for evening instead.
"Rivka, I have a job for you" the rabbi told her as she was hanging up her raincoat. She looked at him questioningly, and he continued on with a smile. "As you've gotten comfortable, I've noticed you're a very bubbly person." Oh, if only he knew, she thought, but keep her mouth tight shut, and tried not to make a face. "Could you greet guests and give them this week's flyer as they arrive please?"
Still wanting to giggle, she kept her mouth closed but smiled and nodded an affirmative before positioning herself by the door. She was wearing a dark blue midi dress with 3/4 length sleeves. She liked the outfit because it went well with her eyes, and was also 'rebellious' in as much as her father would have wanted it longer with full-length sleeves. She could imagine his scowl if he saw it, which made her smile since she wasn't actually on the receiving end of it tonight. The rain was coming down as a strong, cold, drizzle, so she was guessing attendance would be lighter than usual tonight.
"Nice to meet! Am Rivka, big Teddy Doll is Luke" Rivka chirped happily as she gestured in Luke's direction. Teddy bears and Dolls were more or less the same in her opinion, and she hadn't a clue that there was also a piece of clothing called a Teddy. "Oh, that one pretty..." she said, pointing to a nice blue topaz in a white gold setting. At $59, it wasn't cheap, but it wasn't horribly expensive either.
"Luke, what you think? Can see that one please?" she asked, pointing to the one in question, but it was pretty obvious she was hooked by the way she was happily looking at it. It also seemed to be having the desired effect of distracting her from the next step - actually getting stuck.
Rivka walked cautiously into the Danger Room, which she now considered the bane of her existence. Despite her trepidation though, she was also downright giddy, as she stepped into the blank gym-sized room. She was early, even after fussing with her uniform. Shortly after getting a training uniform, she'd added a skirt, which made her feel less, well, exposed in the tight clothing. Today, she'd added a yellow sash around her waist. She'd also been really careful with her hair and makeup when she got up. Everything was as close to perfect as she could get it. She actually got to train with Gawain today! Or was it Maya today? She wasn't sure, and either one was fine with her. The advantage with Maya was that she wasn't dwarfed as much.
She didn't have a clue what Mirror had planned for this session, but she watched carefully, lest she be caught off-guard again. She'd also added one piece of 'equipment', if you could call it that. It was a motorized bubble gun that she'd gotten in the toy aisle during a recent trip to the store. Now all she had to do was pull the trigger, and instant bubbles! While it was a bit big and bulky, it seemed more sturdy than the others she'd looked at and less likely to spill. That had sorta worked out in her favor in the end, but she really didn't want to repeat that episode this time.
She cautiously walked across the floor, smoothly drawing her "blaster" - then almost dropping it. A couple of seconds of juggling ensued, before she got a solid hold on the thing. She then looked around quickly, and up to the control room, to make sure no one noticed. Okay, she was nervous! Mirror hadn't asked her for her favorite movie, so she was safe there at least. She'd heard rumors from other students of Mirror pulling kids into their favorite movie. However, since her and Gawain (or Maya) hadn't discussed what she liked, she felt that unlikely. But, well, almost anything else could happen.
Earring... Right! Probably ought to have one of those, huh? Rivka didn't actually say anything, but all of that played out on her rather expressive face. But it got her mind off of being poked. "Ah, no bring, let me look here please" she said, stepping forward to the counter. She began looking for a simple stud with an artificial topaz in it. Might as well go with her birthstone, she figured. "Looking for topaz? Not much expensive?" she peeped, but she looked calmer now. Shopping she could handle. She glanced at Luke, tilting her head in a gesture of 'get up here, you big lug'. She couldn't quiz him on how something looked if he was on the other side of the room!
"My name Rivka" she told the attendant, "what yours?" she asked with genuine curiosity.
"Umm, ah, wanted to get piercing, top of ear?" Rivka peeped. She took hold of of her ear between two fingers more or less where she was thinking of having the piercing done. She'd thought about getting her belly button done, but had long since chickened out on that. While her English phrasing was a bit different and she had a very definite accent, she was fairly easy to understand.
"Luke, he, ah, just here to hold hand. No like needles much" she confessed with a worried grin. She didn't consider that the way her broken sentence had come out, it wasn't entirely clear whether she was the one who didn't like needles or Luke. Though from her "frightened rabbit" look, it seemed likely it was her.
"Would be able do now? Before panic and change mind?" Rivka stated honestly. She knew this shop had a great reputation, but the thought of what it took to get a tattoo, and being surrounded by pictures of said art, was beginning to make her a little queasy. Some future X-man she was... If the shop keeper was paying attention, her customer was quickly going from 'natural light complexion' to 'pale as a sheet'.
"Uh.... long time no ready for mission" Rivka said with a crooked, embarrassed, half-smile. "Trapped self in own bubble during training*. Still figure out what happen" she confessed. She could tell that the subject of who she liked was making Luke uncomfortable. Americans seemed more shy of discussing relations, though she would admit, this one was odd on multiple levels. As such, she figured maybe she ought to change the subject.
"So, maybe can help with English?" she asked. "Was at class, you know maybe Fred and Walter?" They were a couple of wise-guys that were seldom seen without the other. "Well, they confuse. Was in class, and Walter comes in. No teacher, was early. Fred see Walter, then say 'What's up Dick Wad?' Was confusing thing, because not his name. Look up, and 'Dick' is used for 'Richard', no Walter. Look up 'wad' and mean 'lump of padding or stuffing'" she explained, showing him the definition that she'd just brought up on her phone.
"Can please explain?" she asked, looking at him with big sincere eyes. She'd get English down if it killed her. Or Luke. His student sat, ready to learn all about American Slang...
Rivka opened the front door, and peeked in. Tattoo places really weren't her thing, as she'd never, ever, get a tattoo. She was afraid of needles in general, and Torah prevented it, for which she was glad. If friends ever pressured her to get one, she could just hide behind her Jewish heritage.
She did like earrings however, and had long been intrigued by getting a piercing done at the top of her ear. She was still a big squemish baby about it though and had only today toalked herself into actually doing it. She'd done a lot of research, and this little shop had a good reputation for quality work and general cleanliness.
She'd texted Luke on the way over, to see if he'd come sit with her, silly as that might sound. She also figured she was less likely to chicken out if someone she knew was also there. The little bell on the door had rang when she entered, and Rivka was now standing in the middle of the reception area. Her big green eyes were looking at all the pictures of work the place had done. Many of them were beautiful, but the thought of getting stuck multiple times to create that art was making her get rather pale.
